  1. What has happend to Volunteer basketball? They used to have a pretty solid team every year. The last few years have not been pretty. I havent seen a game in a few years but I remember when they would win 20 or right at 20 games a year.

  2. FYI- The Viking kicker kicked a 48 yard field goal in the game against Virginia High, and only had one returnable kickoff out of about 5. :o I'm just sayin...

I understand that but has he had to kick a FG to win a game yet? No, that is why I say that SH kicker is proven.

  3. This is a big game for both teams. If Crockett wants to have any chance of going to the playoffs they must win this game! Volunteer needs this win to snap a 17 game losing streak and what better game to do it on than a conference homecoming game.

Volunteer will build on last weeks offensive success and begin to throw the ball more and will also catch a few breaks with a couple of Pioneer redzone turnovers. Crockett will score some points but in the end Volunteer will hold off the Pioneers in the final minutes for an upset 29-27 win on homecoming. The goalposts could come down this Friday in Church Hill!

  4. My week 4 picks...

D-B 37 Boone 14 - DB looks to be just too much for just about every team in the Big 8 this year. We will know for sure if they are or not come week 10.

Science Hill 24 TN High 21 - The Hill will win on yet another last minute score. Could really go either way I just think Science Hill has a little more talent and speed than the Vikings at this point and also a proven FG Kicker!

South 42 Central 7 - South will play with something to prove after last weeks loss to GC. Central just doesnt have the horses to keep up.

Volunteer 29 Crockett 27 - Volunteer will build on the offensive success from last week and will throw the ball a lot more. Crockett will score with them but I believe the Falcons will catch a few breaks with a couple of Pioneer redzone turnovers and will hold off Crockett in the end for the upset on Homecoming in Church Hill and will snap a 17 game losing streak. The goalposts may come down Friday night in Church Hill!

  5. Heres my NE TN conferences proposal

Conference A - DB, Science Hill, TN High, Elizabethton, Sullivan South, Sullivan Central, Sullivan East, Johnson Co.

Conference B - Jeff Co., Sevier Co., Morristown East, Morristown West, Cocke Co., Grainger Co., Seymour, South Doyle

Conference C - Crockett, Boone, Volunteer, Sullivan North, Greeneville, Unicoi Co., Cherokee, Happy Valley

I believe these conferences would be more competitive from top to bottom. I dont think conferences should be made up solely on school size although i tried the best I could to make them as geographically fit as possible.

  6. I got to see the boone cherokee game and was not impressed at all by Cherokee I figured after they whooped up on Johnson Co. (which i did not see) and after hearing from some people on here that CHS' QB Ryans was "the real deal" that they would play boone tough but apparently I was lied to about the Ryans kid. I understand hes young and will only get better for sure but some people are blowing him up way too much he and along with the rest of the chiefs football team have A LOT to work on. Chief fans need to bring this Ryans kid back down to earth because its obvious that fans and coaches are filling his head with how good he is when in reality hes got a lot of work to do and i mean a lot of work in order to live up to the hype. After watching last nights game Im even wondering if he should even be starting this year im sure they have an older more mature QB on the roster that might not have made the mistakes that he made last night.

As for Boone they were just as good as I thought they would be. They are an experienced ball team that will win a lot of games this year and maybe even challenge D-B for the big 8 title...MAYBE! Their defense is tough and I like how they use both of their QB's to their advantage. Should be an excellent year for the blazers!

Good luck to both Boone and Cherokee the rest of the season!

  7. I hope you don't take this the wrong way. The 07 season is gone and they only won six( I thought they should have won at least 8 games in 07 and they played a good game against gville in the playoffs). They had a very talented team and ended up with an average season and that is not good enough. That group has the record for best season and won the 1st playoff game in school history. Coach Rider took that team farther than any other coach at VHS. I agree with you that the competition is tough in the big 8, especially when you play 2 6A schools. I understand that it's going to be a tough road ahead for the falcons to even make the playoffs, but I for one have high expectations for this group that's wearing the uniforms today.

rogers... I wasnt trying to relive the 07 season like you apparently thought I was doing. All I was trying to say was that the 07 team had more talent as a whole than most years at vhs and thats why they had a respectable season and until vhs starts to get some of that all around talent again its going to be hard for them to compete thats all i was trying to say. vhs always has a few athletes they just either never have enough of them or they are athletes that cant play inside the trenches. I honestly believe that vhs will have a respectable football program on a yearly basis one of these days and im sure you probably think they will have one too but after 30 years of below average to average football teams its not going to happen overnight.

    Good luck tonight vhs!

  8. i understand what the new offense is meant to do, it just does not work for all situations. i agree with alot of what you said, but we are in our 3rd year with the coach and the last 2 years were bleek. i support the school, the team, the players, and respect All the coaches. but the job for any coach is to improve the football program and make it better than when they arrived. i dont assume we are going to have an 0-10 season, what kind of fan would wish that. just want to see volunteer be competitive once again....

Theres really not a whole lot any coach can do when the talent just isnt there and the talent at vhs just isnt there and hasnt been there since the 07 season. Yeah there are some good players on this team and there were some on last years team theres just not enough to compete especially in the big 8. If vhs wants to win more games they are going to have to somehow find some guys that can play on the o-line. That is vhs' problem every single year and when they do have a descent year theyve got some talent on the line until vhs gets those players it will be rough on them no matter who is coaching so dont put all the blame on coach rider.

  9. should be a good week for the big 8 going 5-2.

  10. should be a good one but i think volunteer will edge this one out for the win. that is if rider's coaching doesn't hinder the boys. after watching last weeks game against the cyclones i am starting to believe rider is coaching because of his family ties and not because of his abilities. his job as coach is to make in-game adjustments to give volunteer a chance to win, but i saw no changes on either side of the ball. volunteer has some great talent but it is hard to tell running a GIMMICK offense. spread it out, air it out, and let's see what these volunteer boys can really do coach.

Do you not understand that a big reason that vhs is running a "gimmick" offense is because they have no line!!! The offense they are running is good for teams with below average offensive lines which is what vhs has. You say spread it out and throw the ball did you not watch any of the game last week? Houston had no time to throw the ball and the receivers werent getting open. Dont get me wrong i would love to see them throw it all over the place and anyone that knows me can tell you why but this is not the type team that needs to be throwing it a lot. And another thing give coach Rider some support for goodness sakes theyve had one game so far and you are acting like they just had another 0-10 season. Rider knows what hes doin let the man do what he was hired to do and support him while hes doing it! This is one of the biggest problems vhs football has right now too many ppl bad mouthing rider and its not doing anything but making things worse! I would love to see you take over for a season just to see how well you do!

Now as for the game I gotta go with volunteer they played pretty well for the most part last week against a team that is far better than north.

  11. If the rain doesnt stop this could be a sloppy game even on the turf at DB. Could be a lot of turnovers and since DB's offense is primarily all run and no pass (not sure how much Farragut throws the ball but Im sure they will try more than DB will) im going to have to take DB in this one but really it could go either way. Should be a great game to watch and should also be one of the better week 0 games throughout the state.

    Heres my prediction...

    DB 28

    Farragut 22

good luck to both teams to the Farragut team and fans please drive carefully in this bad weather!

  12. Here are my predictions for the IMAC in 2010

    #1 Jefferson County

    #2 Sevier County

    #3 Morristown West

    #4 Morristown East

    #5 Seymour

    #6 Cherokee

    #7 Cocke County

    #8 South Doyle

I was so busy raggin on Cherokee that i forgot to give my prediction... I apologize to Cherokee fans no disrespect was intended just stating my opinion

    1. Jeff Co.

    2. Mo West

    3. Sevier Co.

    4. Mo East

    5. Seymour

    6. South-Doyle

    7. Cocke Co.

    8. Cherokee

  13. Here are my observations from last night's jamboree action. I was in Motown and had friends at Sevier and Knoxville. Here are my early predictions.

Sevier Co. - will be tough again. Won their quarter vs Pigeon Firge playing mostly second teamers. They will be good on defense and explosive on offense. The QB is dynamic and receivers are good..

    Record - 8-2 second place

Jefferson Co. - though I have some doubts, these kids are super talented and are on a mission. Huge test in the opener and a tough early schedule. However, I think they will do well.

Record - 9-1 First place in district

Morristown West - looked big and physical against Jeff Co jv team last night. Could possibly rise up and challenge the 2 6A schools. They will at least be a wild card team for playoffs.

    Record - 7 - 3 third place

Morristown East - did not impress last night against Cocke Co., and according to some of their fans have not looked good in the preseason. QB is good and they have some size, but it may be a long year

    Record 4-6 fourth place

Seymour - from what I gather, the Eagles are very young with a good senior QB. It may be good that all three of the top teams have to go to Seymour this year.

    Record- 4 - 6 fifth place

Cocke Co - much improved last night. The new coach has the Roosters playing hard and disciplined. QB and receivers looked to be on the same page. Good quarter versus East.

    Record - 4-6 Sixth place

South - Doyle - improved and still young. They will be looking for their first IMAC win this year and I think they will get it.

    Record 2-8 Seventh place

Cherokee - it is going to be a long year for Mobuck. Young and slow is not good combination. They may win against Volunteer, but that is all I see for the Chiefs

    Record 1 - 9

Just my thoughts on the year. Please feel free to argue or agree. And just remember, Dumplin Valley is really "Death Valley"

I know this isnt an IMAC post and i apologize in advance, but ive seen both Cherokee and Volunteer in scrimmages and I am far more impressed with Volunteer. Mark my words, Cherokee will NOT beat Volunteer this year so if youre prediction for the Chiefs is correct, other than the Volunteer game, Cherokee may be looking at a big goose egg in the win column this season because I just dont see how any team in the IMAC could have looked worse than the couple times I saw the Chiefs scrimmage. They will lose a lot of games this year and they will lose BIG in more than just 2 or 3 of those losses!!! And yes Cocke Co and South-Doyle will beat Cherokee this season! I hate to say this but the Cherokee Chief football program is about to go straight down the tubes and hit rock bottom. This once proud program is going to be at an all time low for YEARS to come mark my words!

  14. As far as the thread goes heres my picks...

    D-B 27 Knox Farragut 21

Sullivan East 13 Davy Crockett 6

Sullivan North 26 Sullivan Central 14

    Soddy-Daisy 24 Science Hill 21

    Daniel Boone 28 Seymour 8

    Elizabethton 33 Volunteer 15

Knox West 32 Sullivan South 22

  15. Everyone go right here before you argue http://www.tssaa.org/schdir/fbplayoff.cfm

See that DB has defeated teams west of morristown 100 times more then any upper east tn school. Why does it matter? Because when you look at it, no matter the size of the school, upper east tn schools have 1 or 2 or sometimes NO wins over teams West of Morristown. Why? The talent. One exception DB! Look at regular season wins in conference against Knoxville teams, out of conference vs Oak Ridge, etc. The point is, all of you fools that say DB is a 1st round loss fail to realize that that 1st round loss is to a Knoxville or more western area team. Your weak playoff course allows you to avoid Knoxville until the semis or sometimes more. Point is, our first round loss to Maryville or Ooltewah is way tougher then even a semi final loss to Greeneville or Morristown East. You people that make fun of a DB 1st round loss fail to realize that your own schools late round loss is evev weaker.

    Don't believe me??!!

Go to my link and compare DB playoff wins over teams west of morristown to your school, then proceed to realize how you have now idea about the different levels of football around the state. Then, go do research on regular season, and see how many more wins we have in that area too. And for the idiot that will say we are a bigger school (it is ok, I planned on county school, TN High fans (Cap1) and others to mention that) it does not matter becuase even in your own CLASSIFICATION you can hardly EVER get pasy Morristown. DB does it all the time, so DB thus plays the best ball in upper east tn. Sorry South, TN High, and others, see your record. The wall is Knoxville and beyond and you just can't beat those teams.

So your first round loss jokes are pointless, because if there were other 6A schools in upper east tn we would beat them. And if South, TN High etc, had to play KNoxville teams or west, you all always 99.9% of the time lose. Please try to argue and spin that, numbers don't lie.

Basically, unleess you can show me more wins over teams west of morristown then DB, you lose because DB beats these teams of equal size and you all can't. History shows that upper east TN has the least state titles compared to the rest of the state. So you all really need to pick it up, cause at least DB wins over these teams sometimes. I bet Cap1 comes back with the 72 or 73 team. Nobody cares, this is within last 25 years. Dig for numbers, I did and you ain't gonna win.

Bud first of all, all the other teams in NE TN, with the exception of Science Hill, are in a lower classification than DB. It is not the 5A teams in the Big 8 faults that there are enough 5A teams in NE TN to where they dont have to play a team west of Morristown until the semis. D-B just has the luck of there not being another 6A team other than Science Hill in NE TN. Why blame the smaller schools for not playing any teams west of Morristown until the semis when they have no control over it??? I agree with you that DB has way more victories over teams in the Knoxville area and farther than any other team in NE TN but remember they usually play 2 to 3 teams west of Morristown every year even before the playoffs so they get a lot more chances to beat those teams and they should play those teams because in most years not many teams in the Tri-Cities area can really compete with DB so i give DB props for seeking better competition year in and year out but they should be playing those teams because thats who they will be facing come playoff time. If youre a 5A team why worry about playing 2-3 knoxville teams every year when you dont even have to worry about them until the semis??? Dont be bashing the smaller schools for not beating more Knoxville teams when in reality they dont need to play or even worry about those schools until very late in the season! Good luck to all NE TN teams INCLUDING D-B!!!

  16. Im pretty confident in this prediction...

    1. Kingsport DB - Lots of talent especially in the backfield (2010 Big 8 Record 7-0)

    2. Bristol TN High - Lots of talent just like DB & you dont have 2 D-1 players on a below average team! (2010 Big 8 Record 5-2)

    3. Boone - Coaching is there & experience is as well! With their tough Defense they Should be just as good or better than a year ago. (2010 Big 8 Record 5-2)

    4. Johnson City SH - Landed perhaps the best coach in the Big 8. Give him a year or so and they will be top 2! They always have talent and speed I dont expect that to change this year! (2010 Big 8 Record 4-3)

    5. South - Lost a great coach but still has some talented and experienced players that know how to win! 2010 Big 8 Record 3-4)

    6. Volunteer - No where to go but up! Has talent at skilled positions, but like always they just don't have the big boys on either side of the ball to compete with the top teams. Injuries will be key for them! Im still high on Coach Ryder he always has his teams ready to go! (2010 Big 8 Record 2-5)

    7. Central - Has perhaps the best QB in the league just doesnt have anyone to help him! (2010 Big 8 Record 1-6)

    8. Crockett - Had some success a year ago but lost some key guys its hard to see them winning more than 1 conference game! (2010 Big 8 Record 0-7)

  17. Was it just me or was Volunteer copying the Boise St. look with the orange pants white jersey and shiny blue helment. I thought it looked good actually. Award for best uniforms (even though some teams were in practice gear) would go to Volunteer IMO.

  18. VHS running the spread has nothing to do with the lack of running the football especially when you have such a talented RB inDevon. If line could just open up a hole just a little Devon with his ability can get through there andmake things happen. I would try throwing the ball to Devon a little more in the flats and get him in the open field. I agree that the jet sweep doesnt work but maybe once or twice a game. Its really designed for the defense to respect that slot WR coming in motion across the field and if you are going to run the jet sweep why not have Devon run it? The kid makes things happen. Its obvious hes Volunteer's most dangerous threat when he gets the ball in his hands. I see the kid practice about everyday and some of the stuff he does amazes me and the fact hes still very young impresses me even more. I would get the ball in his hands at LEAST 20 times a game whether that be handing it off to him in a I formation or in the spread, thrwoing it to him out of the backfield,or running the jet sweep to him. I would also have him returning punts and kicks. I mean what do you have to lose? Hes your best player on the offensive side of the ball utilize that to the fullest. I wuld even line him up at QB in a certain formation and let him do his thing. I mean really if you want to put points on the board and since Devon is your biggest homerun threat utilize him to the fullest. I know coaches are worried about him getting tired an i can understand that but Ive seen it all summer in practice and Devon can take hit after hit and still keep coming at you as hard as he can. Volunteer will be just fine line needs a little wok but they are coming around. I expect them to compete in this new conferece. They WILL win some games this year mark my words!!! Also get the ball in RJ's hands more as well. Run some reverses to him throw it to him deep that kid is another playmaker that needs the ball in hiands in anyway that they can get to him. He may be another option at putting at QB in certain formations. What do we realy have to lose? No one but VHS fans and coaches expect much out of us so lets makeit happen. Im very excited about this season.

Good luck today guys vs GC bounce back from the Greeneville Scrimmage and get ready to face DB in the jamboree. Should be a fun couple of days coming up.

Oh and if you see a freshman QB come into the game during the GC scrimmage that is my cousin please welcome him to high school football. lol But he is a great athlete so watch out
