  1. Like most of the article, they are trying to make it sound like Forrest lost the game instead of getting beaten, maybe making it seem like a couple of seniors played for MC sounded better.

That article is from the local Marshall county newspaper so it is expectedly slanted in Forrest's favor. I believe the author's daughter even plays for Forrest. Don't expect much softball coverage unless its from a local newspaper. The Marshall county newspaper does a really good job giving its local teams(Forrest, Marshall Co, and Cornersville) coverage. Not many rural areas are as lucky.

BTW, congrats to Moore County on the great season! I'm not sure that Forrest and Moore County will have a harder time than anyone else at state. I think its WIDE open for just about anyone this year. From what I have observed there is not the dominate pitching that we've seen in years past from the likes of Walker(Grace), Fagan(Cornersville), Stinnett(Forrest), Renfroes(TCA), etc. In years past those who followed closely knew only two or three teams each year had a real shot at the title. I'm not sure you can say that this year. **(Admittedly, I have not seen Decatur Co this year. If they are anywhere close to good as last year they should be the overwhelming favorite.) They came thru some epic battles with Grace and Cornersville last year to win.

  2. aWisaW, You make it sound like Coalfiled comes down here and is two and out every year with your Tradition comments. This is onlty the second time in school history the Lady Jackets have ever made it to the state tournament. Looks like you got it out for them for some reason. Come watch today you might have a different opinion or not !!!

There is a bit of a stigma associated with the Region 1 and 2 teams at the state tourney in 1A. Its been awhile since they won a game inspite of several teams coming in with nice records only to be put out quickly by midstate or Chatty area teams. Hold your head up and keep at it. I expect a competitive game today between Coalfield and Houston County. Good luck!

  3. These questions/bashings seem to come up every year when any all-whatever team is announced. Coaches have to join the MTSCA. Then coaches have to submit names for consideration. Then these lists are voted on by all of the other member coaches. Some coaches don't join, some don't submit names-especially the smaller schools. That is why I assume it is called theMTSCA all midstate team not simply-the all midstate team. Everbody knows there are many other good players out there, some coaches just don't bother joining or forget to submit names.

The mission of the MTSCA is to promote the sport of high school softball in the midstate. That's what they are trying to do. Encourage your coach to join and participate if you don't like the lists.

  4.

Real good list?!?!?!? Too bad no one from Forrest made this list....go figure?? :popcorneater:

It could be that no players from Forrest were even submitted. I feel pretty certain that Stinnett and Curtis would be on there if their names had been submitted.

  5. Not Mr. Noitall but I'll take a wild shot at 1A. Not who will be in the Boro, but top 8 overall. Regions 5 and 6 will be a dogfight as ususual.

    1 Trinity - No contest

2 Grace Baptist - Lacey Walker is flying under the radar outside of Chatt

3 Summertown - Will this be the year they break thru

4 Columbia Acad - Solid team has played a tough schedule

5 Forrest - always ready at tourney time and pretty easy road to sectional

6 Cornersville - would have been Trinity's top challenge if Fagan was healthy

7 East Roberstion - must get by Forrest or Summertown/CA

8 Cant pick just 8 so maybe Marion Co, Coalfield, South Fulton, Midway, or Riverside - one of this bunch may surprise just putting them at 8 based on past state tourney results and quick look at schedule strength

  6. Gotta feeling they probably should just post W's, L's, runs allowed and scored. Then let everyone make up their own minds.

The way I understand it they had to have a "winner". If not, all the games count as individual games and that would put some of the teams over the TSSAA season game limit. By annointing a "winner" it counts just like any other 4 game tourney. From my impression none of the teams involved were too concerned about somebody being the "winner" as I assume most were satisfied with the level of play. There were some really good teams involved.

  7.

Ever noticed that whoever wins these substate games are in the Finals or Final 3?

Yep. The toughest path to the state tourney historically has always been thru regions 5 and 6. That has not changed in my opinion. However, I do believe we are seeing with the rise of Trinity, Huntingdon, and lately Grace Baptist of Chattanooga that the tourney field overall is more competitive in recent years.

  8. Congrats to Coach Wyrick and Coach Peters. Summertown has been a model of success for small rural schools for many years. Having watched 1A softball the last several years Summertown has consistently been one of the top 4 or 5 teams in the state. Unfortunately for them, however, they have been in the same region as Columbia Academy and Cornersville and have regularly seen Forrest in the substate. I hope the Summertown fans really appreciate the success of the program.

  9. How did the Columbia/Forrest game turn out?

Didn't get to see that one.

Lincoln County looked pretty good and beat Forrest, Marshall County, and Cascade, in addition the tie with Cornersville. Franklin County won all three of their games. Marshall County beat Unionville and Shelbyville and had a pretty good game with Lincoln County. Didn't get to see Tullahoma or Columbia.

  10. I think Richland will surprise a few this season. New coaches have put a spark in players and parents. This past weekend they beat and tied Blackman in Community playday..

Glad to hear it. District races are more fun to watch when there is more than one competitive team. Seems to make everyone better. The Richland, CA, and Cornersville battles have been entertaining the last several years. For awhile Richland was on top, then CA, and the last couple of years Cornersville. We'll see how it shakes out this year.

  11. I think Unionville is hosting one this weekend in Shelbyville and Central is hosting the one on the 13th.

This the schedule we have for the 13th:

    9:00

    Lincoln Co vs Forrest

    Tullahoma vs Moore Co

    Cornersville vs Cascade

    Marshall Co vs Unionville

    10:40

    Lincoln Co vs Giles Co

    Franklin Co vs Forrest

    Shelbyville vs Cornersville

    Columbia vs Marshall Co

    12:20

    Lincoln Co vs Cascade

    Tullahoma vs Unionville

    Shelbyville vs Giles Co

    Columbia vs Moore Co

    2:00

    Lincoln Co vs Cornersville

    Marshall Co vs Tullahoma

    Franklin Co vs Cascade

    Forrest vs Moore Co

    3:40

    Shelbyville vs Marshall Co

    Franklin Co vs Cornersville

    Columbia vs Giles Co

    5:20

    Shelbyville vs Moore Co

    Giles Co vs Tullahoma

    Unionville vs Franklin Co

    Columbia vs Forrest

  12. My question, though, would be, what about glaringly incompetent coaches that are allowed to stay on until they quit or retire?

As riverdale man said, that's part of life. I assure you that it will not do any good to constantly berate the coach around your child, family, or other parents. (Not suggesting you have done this) Sometimes we simply have to encourage our children to make the best of it by working as hard as they can and having as much fun as possible. In many places with a dormant program or smaller sports the administration may be telling the truth about there not being anybody else for the job. These are not highly paid college or pro coaches we are talking about, and in the losing programs or smaller sports some of these people were even talked into the job by the local administration.

  13. Tough loss for the Rockets. Forrest dominated play for well over three quarters. Just didn't get the coffin nailed shut. You could feel some life go back into the Warriors when Forrest fumbled a snap inside Jasper's 20 while driving to put it out of reach. Congrats to Jasper for not giving up.

  14. Well if they do beat mc it be the 1st time in like 22 years so if so congrats.

I don't think Forrest has beaten MC since 1986. Of course they haven't played each other the last several years or Forrest probably would have won several. Great old rivalry game, glad to see it back.
