  1. Just want to say congrats to Walker Valley. Great shooting & great hustle. I also have to commend the VERY classy fans of Walker Valley. After the game was over, the fans were very gentle with our girls & complemented them. They even opened the consession so the girls could get drinks well after the game. Good luck @ State!

  2. ""I personally like Blackmans bracket. Hopefully can win the Lincoln County game without Katie Smith to setup Blackman against Shelbyville or Siegel. Have beat both of these teams this year. It will definitely be tough especially if it is Shelbyville in Shelbyville.""

Why is Katie Smith not playing the next game against Lincoln County. I think this game will be a dandy at Blackman. LC is tough and has beaten Shelbyville on their home court this year. They also have stayed with Law Co until the final minutes in each game. Should be a great region tourney.

She hurt her knee @ the end of the game & wasn't in on the last play. Great game last night. That's how it should be, to go down to the last possible second to decide the winner.

  3. I've already resigned myself to the fact that I'm going to bawl Monday night. Jazzy I expect sympathy tears from you! :thumb:

OH YEAH YOU GONNA BE CRYIN LIKE A BABY when you walk onto that court with your baby girl!!! You will suddenly forget how mad she made you the other day and think of how wonderful and beautiful she is and you will LOSE it lol. I have boys so i am sure girls are tougher to let go than boys lol

Yeah, and since she'll probably go out of state for college, I'm probably going to really let loose. She told me she will talk to me on the phone every day when she leaves, I don't know how long that will last though. :popcorneater:

  4. Kudos to Riverdale as they were the aggressor tonite. We played tentative. PHargis the lineup change was due to injury. Tiera Norris sprained her ankle against Oakland & is still out.

My thoughts & prayers go out to the riverdale student who had the accident. Apparently she was underwater for 20min.

  5. good post.

    Thanks

Can you believe that UAH is giving that Graves Kid a scholarship. She not that good. I do not know if that coach as be at games lately. If Kelise Smith get the ball in her hands more this team would be so much better. Rick get her for sure at MTSU. If not she is a SEC player. I saw Shelbyville play the other night and the seniors got abused. Franklin Co had not answer for Smith just fouling her.

I want to see Lawerence Co come in and just show how good Luffman is. If they put Graves on her again Shelbyville will lose by 30 this time..

Tonight I think Linclon Co beats Shelbyville by 15 if Shelbyville lucky. Going try to go but date changed messes me up.

Whatever school we were @, my daughter has played Shelbyville every, this year 2x. Graves was great in both games & was instrumental in their near comeback in the 2nd game. She was also very good last year. Which one is Smith (# & position), I don't remember her?

  6. I would place District 7AAA up against this (and any other) district in the state. It's really a moot point though...

Gibson Co. has 3 D1 signees along with a Sophomore guard that will wind up D1 as long as she stays healthy. Our Freshman class is loaded this year and next years upcoming Freshman will be loaded as well. Oh yea, our coach has won over 900 games as well.

Obion Co. has a girl that has signed with Texas. They also have a very solid 6'2 post player. They have a guard, who dropped 29 on GC last night, that's only a Sophomore and will be the next big thing out of West TN after this year. They are very deep into the bench.

Westview has a D1 signee and probably one of the best if not the best shooter in the state in Amber Rechis. She has signed with Florida Gulf Coast State. They have role players around her that are very very good at what they do and Westview is very fundamental.

With all this being said..... I'd take an all star team from District 13AA and put them up against any all star team from a District from around the nation and would bet money that they would compete with or beat most of the teams they play. If you don't believe me, look at the TNWings AAU team from this past summer. Almost all of those players were from District 13AA.

LaVergne has 3 D1 signees, including a top 50 nationally player going to Kentucky & freshman point guard that will probably go D1 & may be the best point guard in the district in a couple of years.

Riverdale has a D1 signee & a freshman & sophomore that will probably go D1.

Blackman has a D1 signee & another with D1 offers, & sophomore post/wing that has a good chance of going D1.

siegel has arguably the best point guard in the district that already has one SEC offer & is slapping the backboard @ about 5'4.

Smyrna has a post player that has D1 interest.

That would be a great game. Too bad it will never happen. Also most of these girls have played the wings over the years either as TN Team Pride or TN Flight.

  7. I don't think we have to change anything defensively. Mybe tighten up a few things. Our main issue is our offense. We have much better offensive weapons that we're showing. We hold every team under their ppg average. We also hold ourselves down by not being aggressive enough offensively.

This statistic is evidently being used to emphasize the importance the "D" in winning. And Rightly so. But what it was missing and was missing Friday night was "D" in the transition game. RD's high percentage, after looking how they scored, was a result mostly on points scored on transition. Lavergne simply had a good game plan initially but it fell apart when their post offense didn't work, they couldn't get the ball close, started shooting outside, got in a transition game with RD and couldn't defend it. Very little was and has been written about Barbee's dominence with Myers inside. it was a factor not expected.

The difference with Blackman is their "D" has to do more with Ball Control along with defense and they might be able to play D on transition better. While not commonly acknowledged, it is a hallmark of CH's teams and with rebounding is the reason they are successful. If RD's transition game against Blackman is as good as against Lavergne, Blackman will have a long night. If Blackman plays and is effective in its game, the game will be within 5-8 points, you name the winner. Blackman's game isn't run and gun but this year, with all of the post presence, can play it better. Blackman's pressing defense will also be a factor and will slow RD down. Lavergne waited to late to try it, did not have the well "legs" to make it work and that and rebounding was some of the factors for its defeat. One sentence that explains it, RD controlled to game and LaVergne played catchup all night. Doesn't mean that LaVergne isn't an exceptional team.

When I said we didn't really need to change anything defensively, I meant us as in "Blackman". Obviously if Riverdale had consistently hurt us in transition, I wouldn't think that. Again we just need to be more aggressive offensively. Barbee had four fouls & we didn't take advantage of that because we weren't aggressive enough.

The rest of the regular season will be even more heated than the first, I think. Now that teams have played each other, we will see which team has made the neccessary adjustments when they meet again.

    Get ya popcorn ready! :roflol:

  9. Bri,

What game was you watching...true that Blackman miss some shots but it was because LaVergne picked up their defense. The fouls that were called were fouls, there were alot of no calls that went Blackman's way that they did not capitalize on, i.e missed shots. I would say once again that if LaVergne had pressured Blackman much earlier they would not have to fight so hard for the victory.

I'm proud of our girls as well, they got behind 8 at one point but stayed composed & came away with a victory.

    Way to go Lady Wolverines!!

We're just going to have to agree to disagree. Cause I sat right across from you & watched us get a 39-31 lead midway through the 3rd quarter. By the beginning of the 4th, the lead was down to 5 & y'all had 2 fouls, we had 6. That's not "no calls" going our way. Like I said Lavergne's defense did not cause us to miss OPEN shots. Yes, y'all did some good things on defense @ the end of the game, but not so far in guarding the open shooter. Bottom line we shot ourselves in the foot by not making shots. Y'all made alot of the free throws you took to get that lead & keep it.

I still love y'all & I'll be rooting for you against most anybody else.

    How's "the other Bri" feeling?

  10. Great game....First, 2 qrts were pretty even, Blackman had a 3 right before halftime that put them up by 4. Steph had 2 fouls & didn't play much in the 2nd qrt. Blackman was on fire the 3rd qrt, I don't think they missed a shot. LaVergne's defense picked up in the 4th that caused some crucial turnovers. I believe if LaVergne had pressed before the 4th qrt, they would not have to fight so hard to get this victory. We appeared to play Blackman's halfcourt game vs. picking up the pace and playing to our strengths. Anyways....glad for the victory and it's going to be a great district race.

Blackman just missed shots @ the end. We had chances & good open looks, just missed them. It wasn't Lavergne's defense that caused those missed shots. LaVergne also made their free throws. We had 6 fouls to Lavergne's 2 early in the 4th quarter so they got chances @ the foul line & took advantage. I'm proud of the girls, defensively they did what they needed to do, just have to up the offensive production, which was already a problem before this game.

  11. CoachT Fan poll has them 8th. I ranked them 8th. Their schedule doesn't allow them to get too far from home. Except them, they have not much competition in District 13-14. I pick them going to state. Ho-Hum. Same goes for Memphis Central. If they had not gone to State last year, Riverdale had to go to Memphis to get beat by them, hid at Nike which meant nothing about state, played few games, had not even thought about playing Jackson NS before Substate, I picked Northside or Millington to beat Memphis Central in Substate since there is something wrong with a school living on an invitation to an insignificant Tournament, Not giving State AAA schools or any other any respect, and makes one wonder about the caliber of their signees or if they don't have players hurt. Significant players hurt reduces rankings. Look at Hillsboro, off the rankings. I rank Memphis about 12th, whatever that means.

PHargis your bitterness is showing. Relax.
