  1. Was Briarcrest from Memphis at this tournament?
  2. As a coach, this can be tough, if everything were equal I would try to balance things out. However, my instinct would say go with the youth and build for the future. This sends a message to everyone to work on their SKILLS…This also helps the program by showing a player that if you work and continue to improve you will play based on your abilities not your class. This also serves as a stimulant for the veteran players because there is another capable player waiting for the opportunity to contribute and for the younger players knowing that they will get to contribute. I would suggest taking the faces, personalities, parent/booster influence out of the equation and look at the numbers, i.e.. points, offense/defense rebounds, defensive steals, turnovers, shooting percentage and assist. Base these factors for the minutes played and that will tell you who should be on the floor.
  3. It’s an interesting subject. I've been on both sides of this situation, as a coach and a parent. It can be discouraging to an underclassman that has equal too or better overall skills than the upperclassman but not see much playing time. 15 players on any team is way to MANY, any coach that does this is asking for trouble. One definite way to measure this is what happens when the underclassmen play, is there a noticeable difference? or drop off? If there is no drop-off then what does this means? Primarily a coach should put his strongest player(s) on the floor and rotate the rest in. If the upper classmen are upset then so be it...If they feel the coach has not been loyal to them for their sacrifices over the previous years then they to have not been loyal to the coach/team by not working to improve themselves over the years... Although there are alternatives, as athletes reach the high school level and other higher levels, playing volleyball, soccer and softball in the off season does not help improve your basketball skills. Now add new/younger players who have worked hard to develop and can play, this is where the problem begins...The coach has let the better players play regardless of their class, and make the others earn their court time. Playing time is not a privilege; it has to be continually earned...
  4. Briarcrest won its first round game against Archbishop Molloy(NY) 57 - 54. Keep up the good work Lady Saints!!!!
  5. Does anybody know directions to where the game between BCS and Catholic will be played. Coming from Nashville...
  6. Are any of the nominees underclassmen, grades 9 - 11? If not, why?
  7. How competitive are these teams?
  8. Does anybody know what teams will be attending the Thanksgiving Classic in Martin TN. on Nov. 28-29 ?
  9. Coachtfan, What game were you watching when ECS played Briarcrest, ECS barely won, even their own coach admitted that the only reason they won was because the ref's missed their player stepping out of bounds when he ran back the punt for their only positive yardage and touchdown. ECS is not bad, but they are not a dominating team.
  10. vballDaD, So ECS is a one player team? When was he injured? Does the tailback you mentioned have enough talent to make that much of a difference? The only big play they had against Briarcrest was the punt return in which a Briarcrest player was clearly tripped from behind, but this was after the player had stepped 2 yds out of bounds which the ref didn't call, the other half of their points came from 40+ yd field goals. The re-match between Harding and B’crest should be a good one. Hardings tailback, #3 will be tough to stop.

  21. bluejay, Thanks for the info. Do you have or know what the address to the new venus are? I've never been to Cookeville, so I'm not sure about Algood and Avery Trace. Are these locations High Schools, middle Schools or a Rec. center. Thanks for your help. . . .
  22. Does anybody if the game locations have been changed for the 10U and/or 12U State Championships in Cookeville next weekend? I was told the games for Friday have been moved from the High School but they were not sure where they moved to.
  23. ptguard12, Yes this is the same player you saw last year as a 9 yr. old with the West TN Lady Tigers.
  24. Anyone know anything about the SE TN. association AAU Site?
  25. Yes I would probably agree, I've seen this young lady (#3) on the 11U West TN Lady Tigers play, she's really good. Probably one of the best young (10U) players I've seen in sometime, but she plays up with the 11U team.
