  1. ddb -What a JERK! You obviously have no business in the hospitality rooms anywhere! You sound like a free-loader eating the food intended for the coaches and wrestlers! Come on over to Bradley and we can iron out any rumors you are trying to spread! Or just tell me where to come too to explain it to you. Of course I know you are not going to post your own identy as you have the other names you throw around.

I know, you want to stay Under Cover in the hospitality rooms.

  2. Shawn Cordel finished 2nd in the ELW Conference, almost pulling off an upset in the finials. It was 5-4 with the final point being awarded on riding time. Shawn finished his Freshman season with an impressive 17-7 record.

Congratulations Shawn!!! We'll be watching you in The BIG Show!!! thumb

  3. I was suprised to see that McMinn beat Rhea as bad as they did, but saying that I don't see them beating Bradley. Yet, I mean not many people will get on here and say that McMinn will beat Bradley. And those that do will be though of as a fool. But McMinn fans need to remember thats why they play the game. McMinn has played with Bradley this year and indeed can. I just don't think they will be able to pull it out.

I think the Bears are about to start to "peak" (at the right time). When they are on, they are a well oiled machine. And they are on rihgt now!! They are playing like a TEAM now and should go all the way to Nashville. Hopefully the championship will come back to East Tennessee this year. Good luck to the Bears!! thumb

  4. I agree 'King....I think it is amazing that a wrestler can go through a season at any weight class and only have one takedown scored on him...There should be some kind of award for that. BUT the OW is for the wrestler that is most outstanding in the state tournament, and I still agree with the decision of the ref's on this one. (I don't agree with ref often, but in this case I don't think they could all be wrong!)

    My final 2 cents... thumb

  5. I'm not a Claveland fan but Danny Coleman won the OW because he was the OW of the tournament. BUT if a wrestler from the other end of the state HAD been the OW, you would have still been jumping up and down saying the same things about your two homeboys being "slighted". I take nothing away from Knox or Meradith either one. They are great wrestlers! I watched every match of the tournament and if I had been an official, I would have voted for Coleman. It was not his fault he did not wrestle returning medalists, he simply went out on the mat a wrestled to the best of his ability and that was top shelf.

In the matter of Quinn Gibson being chosen OW 2 years in a row. Anyone that says Gibson was not a man among boys in both those tournaments, should be drug tested! (Rigger you should be first in line at the clinic!) thumb

  6. Over the last 3 years we have come to know the coaches and parents at Bradley very well in our visits to the Bradley Invitational.  They are a quality group of people.  Their kids work every bit as hard as anyone in the state to maintain the level they have been able to maintain.  They grow their own talent.  It is in the culture of that community.  Borneman wrestled their 171 lber at the Bradley Inv.  His father, the ref, came up to us after Borneman had pinned his son and thanked us for the match.  His son had showed some real fire for the first time (Luke tends to bring that out in people with his aggressive style).  He had talked about how his son had been waiting his whole life to start for Bradley and as a junior in high school finally was able to earn his spot.  Ryan kids, McCallie kids, Baylor kids and a few other schools all have those same cultures running throughout the those families.  It is a special and rare thing.  Bradley was able to lose 8 or 9 starters and still win the traditional title.  That alone tells everyone that in what should be a down year they are still able to compete with the best and be the best.

Thank you Coach D!! There are a lot of "Class Acts" in our state. We would like to think we can continue to be a Class Act thumb along with those other schools, and even lead the way. You and your Mustangs and fans also are a credit to High School Athletics in our state! Congratulations on a great showing at the tourney this past weekend, and good luck next year!

  7. What about his 4-1 loss to Matt Morales? I don't think there were any fevers that weekend.

There were not any fevers this weekend either. I guess we all know how good Travis is now. And just think, he only has 2 more years to wrestle! After that, we can decide how good someone else really is!!

  8. thumb Congratulations BEAR WRESTLERS and Coaches!!! You did it again! Thank you for all the hard work. We know that Bradley does not just "happen" to win a State Championship consistantly! It starts with Sly and the youngest wrestlers in the wrestling room, all the way up through the BCHS Coaching staff and the Senior leaders on the team. Of course that continues with all the support of the fans and the entire community. Let's do it again next year!!!

Congratulations to Danny Coleman on his Championship and Outstanding Wrestler Award! thumb

  9. :( And yes we are proud to be STATE CHAMPION BRADLEY BEARS!! :(

Way to go guys! You stepped up to the challenge and continued the winning tradition.

And to the fans at Bradley, you showed a lot of class acknowledging all the STATE CHAMPS!

    CONGRATS ALL AROUND!!

  10. I have no problem with Clarksville and the fine folks that run the tournament. I have enjoyed my trips there ever since they satrted hosting the tournament. What I do have a problem with is the facility. It is simply not largenough to host this tournament. All the other state Tournaments are hosted at colleges or universities in all sports (including wrestling). I'm for leaving it in Middle Tennessee but moving it to MTSU or one of the other locations more suited to host the large crowd. (I only hope that whomever would host it would be of the same caliber as the Clarksville folks.) This tournament is only going to get bigger as our sport grows, with more and more fans attending. I think it would be better for the sport if the standard for state tourneys applied to the State Wrestling Duals.

  11. I think any team that passes up the state duals should end their season at that point. It is not fair to the wrestlers for a coach to make them sit at home during the duals tournament. College coaches do show up during state tournaments to see the college prospects wrestle. A team staying at home during such events can not be good for the sport. The argument that teams can use this period to "heal" before the individual tournament also is not really fair to the teams that do participate in the duals tournament. These teams do not get a "healing" period before the individual tournament.

Of course this is just my opnion, for what it is worth. I would like to know what the TSSAA has to say about teams not participating in the Duals....

  12. Well...The Ol' Backyard Legend has just been readin' up on the Bradley-Cleveland game and felt that I needed to come out of retirement from posting to share my thoughts on the game and what has been posted here.

From the game standpoint...It was just another great chapter in the Cleveland-Bradley rivalry. A great close game in which the athletes and coaches gave all they had towards winning the game. Despite hearing differently from some Bradley fans, I thought the game was called (or should I say "uncalled) pretty well by the referees. At half time, I believe there were only 5 total team fouls called (3 on Bradley and 2 on Cleveland). The referees let the teams play ball. There were more fouls in the second half...but Bradley had to start foulin' late in the game.  A couple of things stood out to me. First was the intensity from Cleveland. I don't think Bradley ever matched the intensity I think Kent Smith said it best when he said "Some of our players don't understand the passion of this rivalry". Wes Suiter, Yarrish Hammonds, and Houston Phillips understand the rivalry. Kent has some new faces that aren't from Bradley County and I think they learned a valuable lesson Friday night. Secondly, The overall play of Alex Goldston was amazing. I think he had 24 points and 12 boards. Bradley never seemed to have an anwser for him. Third, The defensive play of Colby Dodd on Terrance Oglesby and Charles Jet's overall defensive play was something to behold. Charles Little had his usual game (23 points, 8 boards).

For Bradley, I thought Yarrish Hammonds and Wes Suiter played great. Suiter might be one of the best passing big men I've seen in the high school level in a long time. Yarrish's overall play was quite impressive. I was even impressed the sophomore big man for Kent Smith. The Dodd kid has soft hands to go with his 6'9 frame. He's only going to get better. Kent's assistant Jason Reuter does an outstanding job developing post players.

My thoughts on the posts so far...I've known BaconBreath for many years. There is nothing wrong with him being a Bradley fan. As long as he does his job on the radio to the best of his ability he calls it like he sees it, then I don't care who he cheers for on this site. For everyone that knows me...there is no doubt that I bleed blue for the Raiders. That doesn't mean that I disrepect the Bradley program. I'll go to Bradley games when Cleveland is off on some road trip or doesn't play. Corky Whitlock is also a Bradley fan...but the Cleveland/Bradley County community are fortunate to have character people like Corky and BaconBreath carrying their games whether they're at Cleveland, Bradley, or Walker Valley. Bottom line is that they love kids and high school sports. WBAC has covered just about every great moment in Cleveland and Bradley athletic history. Be thankful we have people that are willing to give their time so that the kids of our community get the exposure they so heartedly deserve. Keep up the good work Corky and BaconBreath! thumb

I can hardly wait til they Bears and Raider meet again in a couple of weeks. It should be another great one.

I'm as tired of writing this post as you are of reading it....So, I'm out.

    WELL DONE MR. LEDGEND!

I COULDN'T AGREE MORE. ALL THE SCHOOLS ARE VERY FORTUNATE TO HAVE THE BROADCASTERS WE HAVE NOW. I'VE KNOWN ALL THESE GUYS FOR MANY YEARS AND NOT ONE OF THEM WOULD DISRESPECT ANY OF OUR TEAMS, PLAYERS OR COACHS! ANYONE THAT SAYS THESE GUYS HAVE DISRESPECTED ANY OF OUR AREA SCHOOLS IS SIMPLY A LIAR, AND TROUBLE MAKER. SORRY TO BE SO BLUNT BUT I THINK MOST OF THE FOLKS ON THIS BOARD HAVE HEARD THE RADIO BROADCASTS MANY TIMES AND I DON'T THINK ANYBODY CAN COMPLAIN ABOUT THE COVERAGE OUR SCHOOLS GET FRON THE AREA RADIO STATIONS AND BROADCASTERS. SO LET'S JUST GET OFF THE INDIVIDUAL ATTACKS AND GO BACK TO TALKING ABOUT THE GAMES. thumb
