Smyrna fans on here bashing on Indy is un called for and does not represent Smyrna well.

Indy lined up and played and beat every team in the playoffs to get to the championship game ans are to be congratulated. Doing that is phenomenal in 3 short years. Congrats Indy on a great season.

I want to get this thread back on track because it will soon be closed I am sure.

Uh....his brother did not start as a freshman at UT. You might better check your info a little better. In fact, he was suspended several games if you recall for the interstate incident and just about lost his scholarship. He was starting this yr but lost his spot to a freshman I believe.

Well, well, well.....this proves my point that even a blind squirrel can find a nut as did Smyrna when they won the State Championship!! When you let a team like Lebanon (which by the way...is much improved), score 24 points on you in the 2nd half...tsk...tsk!!! Smyrna went into this game thinking they were GOD since they beat B.A. and overlooked and up and coming Lebanon squad. Kudos to LEBANON!!! Smyrna, you had you're moment to shine but it's all over now. I'll be sure and blink when I drive by the school...that championship sign is awfully little!!!...

I'm sooooooooo glad you mentioned me because it is gonna hurt sooooooo bad when Smyrna does not go to the Championship game this year. when you win back to back state titles you dont have to apologize for anything period. The fact is smyrna seniors graduate with 2 gold balls and 2 chamionship rings. When the stakes and the games counted most smyrna got it done.

10 and 0 in the playoffs the last 2 years. If anyone shows you their region championship ring --- well you can trump it pretty quick --- twice!!

Congrats to Smyrna. First team in the county to win back to backs. Pretty neat stuff.....Oakland first to win the gold. Oakland first to go to back to back state champs, but don't win it. Riverdale first to win more than two gold balls. Smyrna first to win back to backs. Incidentally, Smyrna is tied now for most pts scored in a 5A Champ game at 46 with ....you guessed it....Oakland in 98.

when I read who Smyrna was tied with for most points I knew you would catch that immediately.

it was brutal 15 weeks of football.

you are right about sonny in his entire post season career he only lost one game ( 3rd round in 05 his soph year)

hs playoff record 12 and 1 riverdale is the only team to beat him in the post season -- ever

smyrnas band has really picked it up over the last several years and as someone close to the program I know the players and everyone appreciates it. They are there for everything the football teams does right down to the last post game rally last night. I have personally told the band director how much we appreciate all they do.

Here is an interesting stat on how you win chmpionships

smyrna in the playoff is plus 12 in the turn over ratio they have caused 15 and only had 3 in the playoffs(only one of those lead to points. a fumble return by lc late in the game)

more importantly in most cases other teams turnovers have lead to points especially the last 2 games where they lead to 17 points against bearden and 3 tds last night in the 1st qtr.

You dont win playoff football by turning the ball over

my view/my opinion:

1. Kudos to smyrnas coaching staff (I may be biased but I think Smyrna has the best staff in the state)- the defense was prepared for everything Indy did and had a great plan for defending all those screens. There is a reason Indy had 42 yards of offense in the 1st half and it was coaching and players executing that plan.

2. Imagine Jermiah Bryson in 3 more year after 3 years in the weight room and adding about 15 pounds. His older brother holds the bench press record for Smyrna at over 400 pounds and he will have jeremiah hittng the weights.

3. Smyrna came out the second half and went prevent defense and decided to make Indy catch it under neath and then tackle. Smyrna knew Indy neede 5 scores to win and decided not to give up anything cheap. While INdy scored in the 3rd qtr it took nearly 7 minutes off the clock

4. Indy showed their pride and fight and took advantage of smyrnas prevent d and made the plays and took what was there. Their qb stood in the pocket better and took his licks and made some good throws despite being rocked at times. You don't get to the chamionship game wihtout some fight in you.

5. I thought Indy was over whelmed by the defensive speed from Smyrna in the 1st half and it took a while to adjust.

Smyrna plays team defense and they are as fast as a group as any team I have seen all year.

6. Rod wilks showed why he is the real deal 2 td catches and one int. 2 championship games and 5 tds.

7. #8 Hagar and # 9 martin played their usual roles as the most under rated receivers in the state. They just make the catches that move the chains and are the perfect compliment to rod.

8. Smyrnas defense returns a wealth of talent next year and combined with bryson smyrna will make a run at it with defense and running game.

9.While Smyrna had it stars this team was made up of a bunch of blue collar kids that did what theywere called on to do and all bought into the team concept. Several of them waited the turn for playing time and produced when they were called on.

Indy congrats on a great season dont let anybody take your joy telling you shoudn't have been there and this team or that team would have beaten you blah blah blah ---- those teams had the same chanced you did and did not get it done and you did!

I have never seen a team more prepared for a football game both physically and mentally. Smyrna has added some defensive schemes to defense all those screens that Indy has not seen and those screens set up their entire offense.

No he is not going anywhere and will be at Smyrna for some time to come and lets just say I have this from the best source possible /wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" /> as a mater of fact this source told me this ----- about 2 hours ago.

I just hope the ref crew in the McKenzie vs South Pittsburg game is NOT the same for the Smyrna vs Indy game. My daughter could make better calls! Evidently the 'officials' are NOT taking any questions from the sidelines this year.

1. You used the previous player's comment to indict the program - you didn't use any current players' comments - you've only used your limited observations about a program you're not at all associated with.

 

2. I suspect alot of teams face unrealistic expectations every year. So what?

 

3. There may very well be a difference - why do you feel you have sufficient authority to comment on it? Why do you think that any Lincoln County supporters care what you think, unless your only objective is to start some crap?

 

4. You need to read my posts a bit more carefully - I never defended the comments of that player, I in fact said you were trying to make a good point concerning those comments.

 

"Good class of athletes"? We had a good class of athletes this year. Winning state doesn't necessarily make for a good class of athletes - your last statement is just plain arrogant and goofy.

82cat, you need to either re-read your previous posts or word your posts more carefully before you respond.

 

You said "I have no 'indictment" of lc and their previous players are irrelevant to the conversation". In a previous post you said "pure class and a perfect example of a total lack of discipline and control of this slightly below average football team" in referring to a comment made by a previous player. You indicted the program based on comments by a previous player - you made the previous player relevant to the conversation.

 

You should try to be more consistent in your posts, or maybe just concentrate on supporting Smyrna rather than offering criticism on a program that you know little about.

1. didn't know that was a previous player at the time, my statement to the fact that previous players are irrelevant was basically saying they are not the problem the ones now are.

2. lc faces unrealistic expectations every year

3.in my opinion there is a distinct difference in lc now as in years past as related to atttitude and discipline

4. if you dont think someone saying ( they have now apologized) they are going to take someones knee out and send them off on a stretcher is a perfect example of lack of discpline and control (remember at the time I did not know it was a former player) then I dont know what someone would have to say to make you think that.

there is nothing wrong with lc that a good class of athletes wont fix and sooner or later a class of them will cycle through and when that happens you won't read a negatvie word on here from anybody.

we have already told everybody that came last year you have to come this year and you have to sit in the same place and eat the same food and drink the same drinks.

Seriously I think there will be some room in front. It is one of the closest places to the stadium and across the street from parking. The atmosphere is better when both teams are there.
