Have to also say that was the best game Chandley has caught. Where did that base stealing speed come from.
the old Jr Toppers are really making the conference interesting this year. Would love to see a reunion game.
Lets make that a Select vs Jr Topper rematch!
How much fun could that be?

Plowboy,
Not many comments from anyone about last nights baseball game between Science Hill and Dobyns Bennett. It had just about everything from a pitching duel between Vessie and D-No to late game theatrics with both teams coming from behind to get leads. I thought it was one of the most exciting games I have seen this year. Either team could have won. There were controversal plays at the plates. Science Hill was fortunate to have the last at bat.
Both teams should be proud. DB hit D-No about as well as any team in four years. Only major gafts I saw was DB runner seemed to hesitate trying to score from third, and the SH runner getting picked off at second.
Things have changed since I played. In my day, we were told not to make the first out at home, although I believe the DB player would have scored if he ran on contact. Nevertheless, I would have had to see ball get through before I would have run. When I played, I knew that if there was a runner on second and there was a bunt attempt, that it was automatic that the catcher was throwing to second. But these are still young players playing the game, and I see major leaguers making the same mistakes.
Overall, it was one of the better high school games that I have seen!!!
No question one of the best games I have ever had the pleasure to attend. And that kind of hurts being on the loosing end.
Coach Wagner did a great job getting DB ready and Vestal pitched one whale of a game. How about DB stealing home? Wow!
Some friends from Bristol came to watch the game with me. Was somewhat confused (and I am searching for the words here) that neither the DB or Science Hill fans didn't really cheer against the other team. Best I could explain was there is a great deal of respect between these 2 teams and many of these boys have played together or against each other since they where 9 years old.
I want to see every player play there best and let the chips fall where they may. I think we saw that last night. I saw a lot of heart on both sides last night. I just hope the same energy will be there again next Tuesday.

Science Hiil has their second scrimmage against Morristown East,Tuesday afternoon. Saturday, the pitching looked strong with four pitchers giving up three runs over 10 innings of scrimmage. Will Craig jacked a home run. Science Hill plays Wednesday and Thursday at Cardinal Park against Virginia High and Elizabethton, respectively. SH opens Tuesday against Crockett and plays Wednesday against Tennessee High.
How is everyone else doing? Any comments on the upcoming season.
The Tribe has a couple of scrimmages behind them and 2 more to go. Bats where a little flat in the first scrimmage but came alive in the second game. The pitching has been pretty good not giving up many hits or walks. The Tribe made a few mistakes in the 1st scrimmage ...but the 2nd scrimmage was much better. Not sure if any errors where made in the 2nd one.
Alot of unknowns with pitching in the Big 8 this year. After the big names of Norris, Connell, Cunningham, Lloyd, Mullins and Craig ...who else is going to step it up. Could be the difference maker down the road.
Looking forward to a Great Year in the Big 8.

41-0 at the half. Tribe!

Winchell is a Division I quality player. He has nothing to support him. No one to throw to and no one to defend him. If he gets a pass off against DB pay close attention to his method. It will be spot on target at high velocity but uncatchable by his recievers. I would like to know from anyone if he has generated any attention yet?
Ok this is not a knock on the kid. This is about the 4th time I have read a post like this.
Please tell me why? Looks great in practice? Something he did last year I missed? Has there been a break out game sometime we missed?

"Under the new rule, bats with composite handles and tapers would still be legal. The stricter language applies primarily to the barrel of the bat."
So can this be clarified ...with some examples like ..Demarini CF Series, Easton Stealth series..where would these bats fall...

What a joke....that's how you identify yourself as a second rate program...hire the guy that couldn't get the head job at his own school....There were much better candidates!!
Coach Warner is not a second rate coach no matter how you have qualified your program. And if it was a second rate program it will change. What better way to build a tradition than hire a guy who comes from one of the most storied high schools in America much less Tennessee.
You got a very well seasoned and experienced canidate to head up your program. Coach Warner will work hard for the players and trust me that means a heck of alot today. He will coach them, teach them, make leaders of them. His is a strong role model and he does know baseball.
Jeff Co. Baseball will be better for this hire.

If you have/are an unsigned prospect this is far and away the best bang for the bucks showcase in the area. Very well run and highly scouted.

A change to Rule 1-3-2 regarding bat specifications was made in the hope it will clarify bat compliance. The rule, which will be effective January 1, 2012, specifies that the bat should be a “smooth cylinder implement from the top of the cap to the top of the knob.”

Gabby I had looked last night. Looks like Mt Juliet gets their am/fm radio out of Nashville and Murfreesboro. Could not find a flag ship station.
Good luck to the Toppers this week. Make a statement for Big 8 baseball.

Congrats Solo-Mon 2. You guys deserve to crow out loud. Where did you find the all district team? I understand your frustration, but these teams are ofton selected in everyones mind before the season began. If a player makes a name for himself his Jr. or Soph. years he will be a lock for the next year or two even if he tanks his Sr. year. Who won the Big 8 or big 2 and little 6 as I see it. Again congrats to the Sevier County Bears
Well well well...The IMAC runners up travel to JC to face Science Hill and Crockett rolls down the road.
Big 8 or Big 2 & Little 6? I dunno which 2 or 6 you are speaking of but ya got your hands full come 6 o'clock tonite with Norris and Freeman.

Thanks Gabby and good luck tonight.
What time is tonight's game any idea?

Come to The Fred next Monday night vs South as DB will honor Coach Ritz. This is the last regular season home game.
Monster career on a state and national level. Them is some big shoes to fill.

Some nice ink on Mr. Norris...

Good job Daniel, congrats.

The Big 8 Tournament is going to be quite a doozy. My guess is the regular season champ will have at least 4 losses. Seeding will be everything in the Tourney. Aces on the mound game one then it's going to get real dirty.
DB gets a 1-2 punch next week with Dino and Freeman. (or maybe thats 2 left jabs)
May need to rename the BIG 8 to the Big 3 ...Lefty U
Did I hear correct this morning that Crockett also lost last night to West Greene?

I didn't attack DB. I support all of NET. Your comments just came across as putting down a good pitcher because he beat your boys. You said he did not hit the homeruns. I'm just saying the difference between Kevin and D-No and Phillip is the others have become baseball only players. Kevin is definitely a three sport player. According to some in the know, he is being recruited as a pitcher/1st baseman and also as a football player. Again, I'm just going on what your radio show said tonight.
BTW, last year the DB faithful said they added 3 mph to the board. D-No hit 91 on the board and everyone said add 3 to it to be accurate. So is it add 3 or delete 3. If so, then Kyle was only at 83 by the radio and I know he is faster than that.
The radar gun is calibrated from the press box...you are correct last year was -3 this year +3 can't answer that but the scouts guns are usually correct. They had 87 according to one of them in the know, they were all sitting there. Tennessee Tech, along with the 4 other scouts should have gotten a real good look tonight better than WCU did last week. I want the these guys pitching their best it raises the competition and all the players benifet from more scouts being there.
Please reread my first post. I only state the one DB hit deep for an out tonight would have gotten out of most of the parks in the Big 8.
He is a great 3 sport player. He should be recruited in each. But if it's going to be D1 it's going to be baseball.
-
Hey Fan first off I did say Kevin had a good night , his best outing thus far, did not say anything to diminish his hitting in OR.
Am I a DB homer..dang skippy. But I am also a big fans of all the baseball player in Upper East Tennessee. I do wish them well at the next level as I do wish only the best for Kevin..he is a talent.
All I said was what I saw and what I was told tonight. I was there.
We had a Kid hit 3 out this weekend in OR but thats beside the point.
-
Connell pitched against Dobyns Bennett tonight. He won 2-0. He pitched complete game with 14 K's, 3 walks, and 3 hits. Hit 91 on numerous occasions on their radar and 93 on a scout's gun the same times. The difference between him and Pfeiffer and NOrris is he was all-conference in football and basketball and does not work on his game year round. He also hit 2 home runs at Oak Ridge this weekend in consecutive games. I thnk D-No is the elite of the three but is struggling going very long in games. His hitting is not as good as it has been. Again, I hope all three make it to the big show and we can all say they are from within 2 hours of each other. Interestingly they have never played together as a trio. Norris and Connell played together with the Jr. Toppers and played against Pfeiffer.
Hang on there dad. Kevin pitched a great game tonight but he did not crack 87. Never did I see him exceed 88 on the DB board and you subtract 3 for deflection there. He did pitch his best game of the year but don't be touting a false sense of truth in the young mans head. I spoke with the scouts and 87 was tops tonight. And one more thing if that game is played anywhere else but DB the 400 (408 dead center fence) foot shot to center puts DB up 3-2 and they win. Oh yeah and DB did get 6 hits tonight as well.
But getting back to 93 and HR shots...if, if and buts where beer and nuts ohh what a party it would have been.
Reality check please.

Looks like most of teams have 2 pitchers they roll with after that it drops off. All of the top 5 teams have 5 or more that can put the bat on the ball well.
2 things will seperate log jam at the top once the make up games commence....
1. The team with the least mistakes should win.
2. The team that can develope a 3rd pitcher

Good Luck to the Ad's today from the boys in upper east Tennessee.
May not be the power team as in years past, but as a team they are getting the job done.
