  1. The last two were against several subs, WC played a lot of young lineman tonight and lost a senior lineman to a knee injury early on. The same lineman tore something in his right knee two weeks ago and was playing with it braced up and tonight tore something in his other knee, this one looked to be more serious, probably done for the year now. MTP is just a few players away from being really good, their blocking was near perfect, especially down field. One of their scores was on a kickoff return, I think that was the first one WC had given up all year.

They didnt sub but one or two; Rice said on the radio he was not comfortable with the lead until the last drive, which is why he faked a punt up 14 with only minutes to go. MTP players #20 and #21 are fun to watch, they are shifty and will break your ankles on one play and then flat out run you over on the next or even on the same play. #5 for WC probably played his best game to date. big hits all night. refs were horrible. MTP looked to being starting freshmen and sophmores on the line which can only help them in the coming years. WC was too much up front and controlled the LOS. Great game and i look for both to make playoff runs, if they can stay healthy.

  2. They will rely more on the QB's legs and the old school wing T half back option and full back dive up the middle either side of center... I think you'll be surprised at the push and open holes their front 5 will create for 3 to 5 yard gains. Look for their big gains to come from the QB running the ball.

I'm gonna say their losing record had to come from bad ball control (fumbles).

i will agree with BB here, Loretto is not a bad football team and continues to get better every week. they have an issue with ball control which seems to be under control now.

if they control the turnovers; this game will be closer than the WC fans want to admit. Bad Weather will be in the favor of the mustangs.... they don't want to pass anyway. Athletes will match up well in this game. I say this will be an upset victory for the mustangs.

  3. When your Scheme is a running attack you develop runners and blockers.  QB is kinda on the Back Burner.  When you make it a point to versatile.  You will spend Countless hours in season and off season developing a throwing QB.  Some Head Coaches do not have anybody on their staff who can develop a QB and some do.  If I was the Head Coach I would try to look all over the Country to find a good QB Coach.  I watched Jackie kelley spend Countless hours with his QB's while Coaching at WHS.  He could take average talent and get above average play out of QB.  It can be done.  Hendersonville's Passing attach was not a priority and it showed.

yet, another assumption that Coach Hatfield doesnt coach up his QBs. did you watch him like you watched coach Kelley? You know that Kelley is as by the book Delaware Wing T as you get right? how many State Championships did all that QB coaching get him? how many 2nd place Silver balls? i am also pretty sure a High School Coach cant coach football during the offseason due to TSSAA rules... i am sure Coach Kelley would not have broke rules during off season.

When Hatfield retires or moves on, HHS may wish the wing t would come back. "careful what you wish for"

  4. Good schemes and game planning can offset some of the talent differential. While the coach may be a great guy, the offense was terrible. 60 points in 10 games = terrible. It's not necessarily the formation, but the philosophy.

Sure, it's not all on the coach, but you have to be able to twerk your scheme based on your players and your opponent. It's not just at Portland. It's at a lot of high schools.

You are assuming that the Coaches of HHS and PHS do not scheme based on their players... but if you watch these teams play, i would say different. i watched both teams on several occasions depending on the location of games. PHS for example ran some spread sets and went under center to run what i thought was veer (could be wrong) they had 2 QBs but niether of them could pass very well... would it make sense to run spread? they had NO size at running back, would it make sence to run I offense?

HHS has a QB with a huge arm but recievers dropped several passes at that game as well as in the championship game. he did not have the touch pass, only a deep ball. would it make sense for them to spread it out only to go 3 and out becuase they could catch a 5 yard out.

i would bet that any of these coaches would be more than happy to sit down and watch thier films and talk football to explain thier reasons.

most of us would rather "act" like we know and discuss it here...

  5. No, I'm not a Portland Insider.  I just know alot of Portland Insiders.  One prior Coach told me before the Season that 2013 was the year.  He told me it was all around town how good the Panthers would be.  Another Insider told me that Portland was returning a lot of key Starters?  Tell me was I mislead?  Answer the Question?  Don't dodge it.

i dont know the answer... i asked you. all i know is what has already been posted on this thread,(which you began) and what has been written in the papers.

  6. I said he's a good coach. I really like him.

Something is NOT working. Not saying its coach Aric.

5-26 over three years isn't working. He resigned. He knows something's not working! I'm guessing he knows what it takes and he's not getting it, but that's just my opinion.

In regards to hiring me... I do think I could win! Maybe if you hire the right HC, I'll apply as an assistant. Lol

i see what you are saying... i misread your post

Look at the previous 2 head coaches 3 year span... you will find 5-25 for 3 years after Perry. 1-19 for 2 years... 5-26 for Aric with a playoff. it is the AVG for modern day Portland Football. a 5 win season should be looked at as a premium. i dont know the 2nd guy, but Beaver and Aric are pretty good coaches with attitudes and personality that players love. I dont know what else a coach can do.

  7. I agree completely! Numbers hurt, sure. They don't make you 5-26 over three years. I believe coach Aric to be a great man and coach, however something's not working. Portland has to get someone in there that everyone will rally around; students (who are also the football/potential football players), student body, administration and community.

he went to the playoffs in 5A. not working? maybe EERS and HIGHLIFE should be hired. they seem to know the secret to winning at Portland.

Just look at the BB schedule to see what is going on there. Portland BB has won 1 game. losses to White House, Westmoreland, and East Robertson (all smaller schools)

but maybe they have talent and they need BB coaches too. get a new one.

i heard (could be wrong) that no previous staff member applied for the job. you can read between the lines on that rumor.

They need an Administration that will not bend to the parents and run off coaches every 2-3 years. Stability is needed to win. the next coach needs time.  good luck with that at Portland.

  8. I still stick with my statement.  Lack of Talent is not the issue at Portland.  I am not saying they are State Contenders year end year out but can have a winning program.  The kids played their hearts out against Westmoreland and after that game folded it.  Gallatin didn't fold after losing to TC they are still playing.

Gallatin has Talent, that is why they are still playing. Last season Portland had talent that was able to compete and did. this season they did not. Coach Aric was the same coach, same staff, same district, talent graduated, which happens in high school football. it happened to Gallatin last year... did they run off coaches. no. THAT IS WHY THEY ARE STILL PLAYING. Portland has talent... just not 5A talent.

Portland middle schools also have losing records. Will they change as well?

i agree with EERS, they need a young coach that will not be fired WHEN they have down seasons.
