1. QUOTE(DandDD @ Apr 10 2007 - 10:57 PM) 826434435Played pretty well against the Toppers Monday, just couldn't do much at the plate against Hoilman.

Not a bad effort against the Tribe today. Keep plugging away guys.

Good Luck the rest of the week!

    GO FALCONS!!!!

PS Hey Baseballbacker how's the CH Panthers doing of late. Hadn't talked to you in a few days and I was just wondering.

I agree. Listened to the game on 1320. Had them on the ropes there, just gotta learn how to win. Coach Free will make that happen. Watched the freshman annhialate (sp?) DB. Good job Coach Cordell.

Panthers are 7-3 with 6 conference games left. Split with Sevier Monday. That one loss may come back to hurt us. Got a BIG doubleheader Thurs. at Colonial Heights. Need no less than a split. If we can steal 2, we have a good shot at finishing in the top 3. Home next week Mon and Thurs. Come see us if you can.

  2. QUOTE(DandDD @ Apr 6 2007 - 10:22 AM) 826431236Good luck today against the Bulldogs!

    Go Falcons!

    Ditto

I bet it's so cold in Hampton tonight, the town flasher will run up and describe himself.

  3. QUOTE(1moreDBmom @ Apr 3 2007 - 11:55 PM) 826429391I think I just witnessed the best ballgame I ever saw in my life! Science Hill you guys played one heck of a ball game and my heart never got a chance to slow down the entire game.

DB, what can I say that has not been said before....you guys were some awesome tonight!

Reno....that blooper that could have easily fell in between you and Jamie late in the game...I looked over and saw you saddle your horse and ride in for the rescue....I knew then that ball was going back to the dirt where it belonged. I could see something in your eyes before the game started .....you guys must have decided while you were tying your spikes on that not a single ball was gonna touch YOUR lovely grass on YOUR half of the field.....Wesley was like a giant funnnel running around out there sucking up everything in the air except the pollen. (you could have taken more pollen Wes it might have helped me with this nagging cough) E was like a big strip of velcro over in right field anything close and it was in that mit to stay.... all 3 of you guys yanked that crap outta the air and sent it sailing back to the infield dirt like it was contagious....rejects from the outfield is what those balls were....

And did anybody see all our new vacumn cleaners on the infield? A Rainbow model over at shortstop sucking up anything that came near him, and I sware it was a hoover on 2nd.... hoovers can get what others leave behind we are told! And that big upright on 1st, reminded me of my first Kirby....kirby's are self propelled, and can even clean the drapes and windows with its long reaching hose! That long wing span hauled in a few that were trying to get away over at first...but not on Aaron's watch! Behind the plate was that ugly old beat on shop vac. It works wet or dry...and nothing gets by it either!

Shew you boys were just out there cleaning house tonight!

A game without a homerun???? My goodness you played the best smallball I have seen all year long. Now you have 2 tools in your arsenal... along with your bombs you can toss handgranades just over the infield...... or roll them out toward third like Bo did!

You guys put baseballs all over that field tonight. You punched um between infielders, you blooped them over the infielders, you drove a few off the walls far far far away from home plate. Shew..... You all just impressed me tonight.

If we needed a sac bunt you laid that thing down like it was a softboiled easter egg. When we needed a long sacrifice fly, you would step up to the plate and then pin someone up agains the outfield fence while our Runner @ 3 would coast to home.

But seriously now, congrats to each and every one of you. You made the game look easy and fun tonight.

    I have a sudden urge to clean house and eat soft-boiled eggs. /blink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="blink.gif" />

It was a great game from the DB side. Science Hill looked like a deer in headlights. I thought they played flat and really only challenged DB once. Congratulations, Tribe.

  4. Let's don't get too "tree hugger" here. Of course, integrity is a key component to any program. The good ones have it and it shows. I still don't think you can put winning too far down the list. I don't think any school coach can honestly say "I don't care about winning, I just want everyone to feel good and everyone should get an equal chance." Not gonna happen. You definitely have to run a clean program, but as long as they are keeping score, winning is important. Anyone who thinks differently is kidding themselves.

  5. Speaking as a person who has been on both sides of this issue, there are ways to support each argument. If you coach in a small program that needs booster support, (about 95% of the schools in Tennessee) you have to have some sort of relationship with parents. Some parents take it too far and expect too much. "I do all this work and my son had better play" and then you have some who don't support the program and say "His son gets to play because he stinks up to the coach." How does a coach walk that fine line?

Parents should support the PROGRAM and not the PLAYER. I've been there, done that. It's tough to see your son sit when you feel he is better than someone in front of him. But, don't pull your support for the program. Baseball is usually on the bottom of the totem pole in the scheme of school sports. 99% of coaches play the players they think will help the team win. Bottom line. One thing that is killing school sports is the rec league mentality that all players should play and winning should not be a priority. It might not be the top priority, but I guarantee it should be in the top 3. Finding that balance of teaching, running a clean program, and winning is very tough. Give these coaches a break and have faith that a player's ability will win out in the end.

    and, SUPPORT THE PROGRAM!!!

  6. QUOTE(WaCoJaCo @ Mar 28 2007 - 11:18 AM) 826424842Don't let the 8th. in the Nation rank get you all fired up. Even though im a DB fan, Im not to sure the Indians are anywhere near that. Thay are much better than Tennessee High though, even if they lose this one game. DB would win a two out of three with the Vikings any time this year.

A rational, reasonable, well thought out reply.

Am I in the Bizarro world?

    My prediction, Tribe big time.

  7. Good win tonight. North has been playing well lately and you guys kept it close and then got some well deserved breaks in the 6th. DC threw a great game and the team got some key hits and a few breaks. Now that you got ole' Mo (mentum) on your side, ride him as long as it lasts. Go get you another one Friday.

  8. QUOTE(GLee @ Mar 21 2007 - 09:19 AM) 826419259Great Baseball Program and a Fantastic Coach!

No one asked, but as an outsider, I agree 100%. One of the most talented teams around the East Tennessee area. I miss all the Watauga Conference talk on here. How is that conference shaping up? I would have bet the house that Elizabethton was the team to beat this year. Is that holding true?

  9. QUOTE(baseballplayer9 @ Mar 20 2007 - 08:28 PM) 826418861Well we finally got that first WIN!!! 8-4 over TN High!!!! Played together as a team and it payed off!! Matt Fleenor and Cody Byington both had homeruns!! Shaun Arnold pitched a great game, good job tonight all around guys lets keep it up and get 2 more to finish the week up!!

    Go Falcons!!!

Congrats to the team and to Coach Free on your first win of many. North has been playing well, you'll have to play hard to beat them. Good luck.

  10. QUOTE(rSquared @ Mar 19 2007 - 08:03 PM) 826417920Where did former coach Chuck McLain go? To another school or what?

Chuck played for me when I coached at Volunteer in '87, so I try to keep up with where he is.

    Anybody know? /blink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="blink.gif" />

    ---rSquared

He's still there. He just stepped down as the head coach for personal reasons. I think he is enjoying it more as an assistant.

    What was the score tonight?

  11. QUOTE(DandDD @ Mar 14 2007 - 12:24 AM) 826411109Just saw the SH score. 15-0 Ouch! /unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

Good Luck in the Lakeway Tourney!

Guys, keep your heads up. Better days lie ahead. Keep working hard and believing in Coach Free. We're still behind you.

  12. QUOTE(baseballplayer9 @ Mar 11 2007 - 08:26 PM) 826408440Thanks for the support! Means alot to know we have people that believe in us and that is going to help us out more than you know!

Lets make a name for the Volunteer Falcons for this season tomorrow guys!!!

You've had my support since you were 7 years old, ain't stoppin' now. Be the leader this young team needs and you will have a great year in my eyes.

  13. QUOTE(TheProfessor @ Mar 11 2007 - 12:06 AM) 826407738Irony: a manner of organizing words so as to give full expression to contradictory or complimentary impulses, attitudes, etc, esp.as a means of indicating a detatchment to a theme, subject, or emotion.

If you need a simpler definition:Assuming plowboy is serious about Bwang and his choice of motor vehicle decoration. BWANG is a guy trying to bust people for being rednecks (i.e. using cow patties for fertilizing tobacco fields and chewing that tobacco while hunting all the while making fun of people that don't use proper English) While at the same time, he is displaying redneck tendencies himself by flying a giant flag from the back of his pick'em up truck as he commutes to his chosen destinations. Does your truck have a lift kit too? How about a set of Flowmasters for that perfect sound? Nah, that would be too perfect of a definition of irony.

I remember a something about an old saying about glass houses and stones, or something like that.

    Ouch!!!

  14. QUOTE(Boonie @ Mar 8 2007 - 07:40 PM) 826405357Tyler has been slapping it pretty good lately. Three or four more big sticks in the lineup as well. Monday home opener against South.

    Go Falcons!!!

What time is the 1st pitch scheduled?

  16. Wait a minute. Don't let the guy who started this thread wash his hands clean of the mud-slinging. What started the whole mess was when a Volunteer fan wished DB well and said the only OTHER Big 9 team he knew was Volunteer. He made a positive comment and the "thread starter" started firing at Volunteer. No, the kid from Volunteer doesn't need to be calling high school seniors chokers, but mister "thread starter" doesn't need to taint the good name of DB fans by saying Vol. has no talent when he doesn't even know any of those kids. Goes both ways.

  17. QUOTE(DiamondBird18 @ Mar 4 2007 - 09:00 PM) 826399850Does anyone have a score from the VHS North game...and also how their pitchers did?

I heard 2 reports. 1 said North won by 2, another said it was a tie. Also heard pitching struggled a little. One bright note, Ty Hud led off the game with a homer. Way to use the rules to your advantage, Coach Free.

  18. QUOTE(WaCoJaCo @ Feb 26 2007 - 09:04 AM) 826389697You should be out on the Volunteer diamond spraying Round-up and cleaning up the cow dung.

I'm so happy they allow internet access for the "visitors" at Lakeview. Maybe on your next furlough you can help us with the dung.
