  1. Del do you have a number of people that applied. I know you named 3 Casey, Tommy and 1 out of the school system. We know of 2 that wont be hired(Mac and Sam.). That's a total of 5. I though there would be more than that. Seems low and if that all that applied why the lack of interest.

  2. Well for one, the kids have said you told them you were already hired down there for next year, and running their weight room. You and Paul are like peas and carrots. Last, we really don't have a PE opening. What about Grundy, you told mheire Ken loved you like a son, I figured you might get the job up there. Good luck.

well you should know by now not to believe everything a student tells you. Me and ken are close friends. Paul and I are friends to, but every body has to answer to someone else don't you agree.

  3. You know this whole thing has been one of the most negative experiences of my sporting life. So maybe I need to look at the positives. So I'd thought about doing this a few days ago but wanted to wait until after the interviews. I said earlier that there were good reasons to hire Tommy, Ted or Nick. So I'd like to list those...in my opinion. So let's got youngest to oldest (sorry Ted /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" /> )

Why we should hire Nick Bryant- Yeah Nick is young but he is competitive. I don't ever remember seeing him take a play off in football and all you had to do was watch him play basketball to see the intensity on his face. He's in it to win it for sure. He had some good years in football and was on the team that broke the streak against Marion. In basketball he and his teammates under Coach Bennett Boynton did something that hadn't been done in years and that was win the district and the district tournament. Nick could bring some new ideas to the table that could be just the trick. What may be the biggest reason to hire Nick is that he possibly has the biggest push in the community. The program needs support from the community so maybe all those pushing for Nick can bring more to fill the bleachers and support the program.

Why we should hire Tommy "Scooby" Andrews- Scooby has 12-13 years on the staff in various positions assisting under Pickett, Fritts, Brewer, Colquette, Brewer, Pickett and Swafford. He has seen everything that has worked and has not worked over those years. He's learned the ins and outs. He knows the game. He's paid his dues and without question earned his shot at job if anyone cares about dues and loyalty. He also played for Pickett and Ladd and knows what it took back then to rebuild a program. He has a great relationship with the younger kids and can recruit them in which is key up here. What may be the biggest reason to hire Scooby is that he has loved everything about Grundy County football since he was nine years old and thought about being the head coach almost that long. He's got the same desire for the job Pic did way back when.

Why we should hire Ted Ladd- He's the one with the most experience. He knows what head coaching takes. He was a part of the most successful run Grundy football EVER had working side by side with Pickett. He knows Grundy kids as well as anyone. He knows football. He may be the only one that can pull all the family back together and make this thing work the fastest. What's easily the biggest reason to hire Ted is that you know what you're getting. We won't have to wait and see how he's going to handle something. Ted has an established reputation as a coach and the Grundy faithfull won't have to guess how things are going to get done.

So there's my take on the three. All are part of the family. All deserve to be treated with respect no matter who gets hired. All have given years to our programs and have made a difference for the kids.

  4. There have been several coaches that have never played any sport and have been very successful as a coach. Just off the top of my head ........... Bruce Pearl was a manager at Boston College during his college days. Charlie Weis at Notre Dame never played football to my recollection. And the list goes on.

And their have been several players that were the best at their sports and made terrible coaches. Isiah Thomas - Bill Russell to name a few.

What makes a good head coach ? Discipline - Knowledge of the game - a good Motivator - Leader and Optimist would have to be a few characteristics.

Apparently Coach Lambert has stressed these things throughout his life as a person and a coach, because every time I hear his name I only hear how great a person and coach he is.

I wish the best for Coach and his family on their move to AC.

He was a fine man and still is a fine man and coach.

  5. I was told that the majority of the kids are in weightlifting class during the last period of the day. That could be the reason they are gone earlier than would be expected. I am sure Coach Grider is not letting his guard down and that the players that are not involved in other sports are getting plenty of time in the weight room.

Guys! Coach Grider will have the players ready, I promise you that and they usually one of the strongest teams in the valley. Good Luck South Pitt.

  6. While I'll admit there could be some things better internally keep in mind that 1. Brewer stepped down so Pickett could come home and Brew stayed to be an assistant. 2. Pickett died. I would have prevented that if I could. 3. Jim resigned and it has nothing to do with us. The man said he needed to spend more time with his kids. 4. Who knows who and how long??????? So actually it WILL BE 4 in 4 years...it hasn't already been 4 in 4.

    Good Post!

    DL.

  7. Coach Swafford turned in his resignation this morning as a teacher and a coach stating personal reasons. We broke the story a little while ago on the GrundyCountyHerald.com. I'm going to write up something in more detail for this week's paper.

Our Director of Schools and the school board have a workshop tonight and he is going to meet with the athletic committee tonight from the board to discuss when and how they will go forward with posting the job and who will be in charge of workouts and the field house for the time being.

I really hate this for the kids as this seniors this fall will have had 4 head coaches in 4 years. It's not real easy to be successful in that situation.

    DL.

I hope the best for Coach Swafford and is family.

  8. Im pretty sure it has or ill be in the next day or so. I think it all ready has. The defensive coordinator is the new head coach

Jason will do a find job at upperman! just give him a chance he will make you guys proud.

  9. Doesn't look like to bad of a schedule. How many players on the roster? If I understand correctly this was the first year with new coach(s) and system.

Next year should start to see some signs of improvement. Lose much in Graduation?

    Good luck next year!

Loretto needs to hire Heath Springer has head coach Great knowledge of the game nad great work ethic

  10. I was on the mountain last night with Birdie and we saw some lights on at the school house. You see we were up there lookin for a good used double wide and we thought that we would go by and see what was goin on. Well to our surprise some of the local folks said there was a football game being played. Well we did not have much trouble parking because there may have been 200 people there we did not see a football game we saw a butt whipping by East Ridge. Thank goodness for BB, baseball and softball because with the group that was there last night the football team may be taking money from these sports to pay their bills! /flower.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":flower:" border="0" alt="flower.gif" /> MrNoitAll will be back soon to tell you more losers but we sure saw one last night!

    Great Post RICHARD NOGGIN

  11. We Have Aspirations Of Ya'll Whooping Us Again. We Are Currently Trying To Get TSSAA To Change The Balls Around, So If We Meet We'll Still Get A Gold One. And It Was A Treat. Even In Defeat you Learn Things. And Eating Crow Was Debilitating But After A Few Bites It Aint That Bad. Your Fans Was Nice Enough to Provide Some Humble Pie As Well. What Your Coaches Do With So Few Is Simply Amazing. Good Luck to The Pirates. And After This Season We're Heading Back to 2A. So If Were Gonna Lay An Egg, Again It's This Year Or Bust. But We Are Watching Ya'll And Hope Ya'll Are Laughing Watching Us. We Lost All Our Starters On Offense, but Our Defense Is A Work In Progress. We've Added A New Weapon For Ya'll This Year Though. Moveable Goal Lines!

  12. maybe u need to stay in stinky creek with your posts and help rbs/macon co. come up with a decent football program, i'll tell u one thing if RBS had a good program they WOULD have won some games this year, they had talent and pride and they had support, i'm not knocking anyone, but they needed help in the play calling and dicipline i know u know whose job that is !! then we would both be having something different to say !! and as for the tax dollars i am more than willing to spend mine. if i knew for sure that they were even getting close to doing their job thats what upsets me macon co/rbs got more attention losing than winning that is SAD !!!

Maybe you guys need to bring back Don Stewart one of the only winning coaches at RBS.
