Cookeville High School has an unbelievable gym, to bad its going to waste.
The size of Cookeville's gym is amazing, true. But it's horribly run. Fans have to come in the end of the gym and walk over or around the goal supports. Those tiny spiral stairs....please. The exit doors have caution tape across them. Crime scene? And they only use about half of the available seating and put their student section right with the visiting fans, who are roped off. How about hanging an advertisement banner! /blink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="blink.gif" /> There must be 50 of those.
I read where coaches' pay will be cut in Putnam County for whatever reason. Talk about money well spent. The largest gym in maybe the whole state and can't pay coaches.

Yes, the girls game was good.
In the boys game, Horkins really came out strong. I didn't really care for Dunn's attitude during the game whether it was elbowing a freshman in the chest when he simply walks by, or grabbing the ball and rolling it after a basket. He is definitely a good basketball player, but up here at Tech he could be chewed up and spit out with his attitude. That is just from knowing the basketball team though. I really dont see LA going to far this year, until the fourth they were having trouble with a very young and inexperienced Harpeth team. I do see them getting better, but I dont see the talent level that I did last year at the Williamson County Invitational. Seems like they lost a few seniors, but I am not sure. Definitely when some of the rust wears off they will be better. I was really looking forward to Dunn, because of the fact that I will get to watch him at Tech, but now I am not so excited...
Good luck to LA this year, I think you all will have trouble with some of the elite teams this year, but will get some good wins as well.
Thanks for opening the door.......& sorry you're so bored.......Chase Dunn prolly feels terrible bout that.....
Really. 'Elite' Teams? Don't most teams have trouble with 'elite' teams? Hmmmm. LA lost a couple of seniors from last years team. One was the point guard. The other a post player. LA might not have had one of their best games last night your right, but pulled out an 18 point win.....at Harpeth's gym. Your opinion of Dunn is probably off base. You know the basketball team so well at Tech. Do you think Chase doesn't know them? Don't you think he knows he'll have some work to do. That's what freshmen do. They mature and adjust. Elbowing a freshman in the chest? Freshman, soph, senior. Whatever. No one from Harpeth threw an elbow, right? Rolling the ball after a basket? Aren't you getting a little picky? I guess you like your post players attitude when he stared the ref down and dropped the F bomb after a foul called on him. Refs will take care of delay of game.....they called three charges on your boy Dunn. Harpeth returned two or three starters from last year. So did LA. LA played 10 players last night. Some of them were freshmen and sophomores. Maybe Harpeth should have beat LA last year with that senior laden team. Maybe they should have beat LA last night in their own gym. How many players did LA and Harpeth have sick last night? Don't know all the details, do you.
LA may be physical, but no more than Harpeth. Check out LA's schedule. They seem to be faring ok with some 'elites' early on. They may lose some games. They play some good teams but will only get better. Who knows how far they will go. Hopefully they'll go further than last year. I hope Harpeth does well too.
We love to travel to places where people like you are going to find silly things to complain about....Take verbal cheap shots at a player......bring him down to earth a little bit...... Jealous? Dunn is very grounded. How many assists, seals, deflections did he have last night? Figured you didn't know that either. LA is definitely not a one man team. WHile they may lose some games, their not gonna be outworked. But they are gonna do it with their game, not their mouths. HHS fan. If you're gonna be so attuned the finer details, why don't you have someone edit the four-letter words out of your pregame music. Very classy. Or maybe that definition of HAVOC was left off the wall.
Maybe Harpeth can't beat LA because you're more excited about that filthy music than hard-nosed basketball.
Come on. Lighten up on Dunn. Maybe when he gets to Tech, you know, with the team you know so well, maybe he'll be able to silence the opposing team's crowd like the did the wild and crazy student section from Harpeth. Don't you have a name for them? I've seen it written somewhere.........even you gotta give him credit for that. /sleep.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="-_-" border="0" alt="sleep.gif" />

Matt. I think everyone agrees with you. Not sure about crimson breaking rules, at least not in this thread. I have seen people slammed way harder on coacht. However, everyone knows how good a coach Maddux is. Crimson is obviously jealous for whatever reason that doesn't matter to anyone who knows basketball. CPA and Maddux is good and we all know it.

All the ifs ands and buts. CPA is very good. So is LA. LA might have played better (more relaxed) if Z had been playing. Maybe not as much to prove. Seemed like we pressed a little too much. Tried a little too hard. Factors for LA have to include playing a very talented Northeast on Friday, then traveling to Nashville in less than 24 hours to play in a hostile environment at CPA. Lets face it. This game had a lot of hype for this early in the season. LA had four players with four fouls in the 3rd quarter....Dunn, West, Ramsey, and Smith all had to sit more than a quarter and Ramsey finally fouled out. That says a lot about LA's depth. Miller played great for CPA. So did Zelnik. This was a great game but it was fairly ugly. LA definitely worked hard but didn't play their 'A' game. I think I like this newfound rivalry.
-
Better get ready for two tough games on Friday and Sat. As far as the Tennessean article. At least they mentioned LA. When was the last time LA was in the preseason top anything? Only two double A teams are mentioned, CPA & LA. Makes Sat. night a good one I guess.

Way to go Cats. Looks like we are off to a great start.
Hey Yuckamuck, how did the stat sheet look? Points? Rebounds?
THink Ramsey had 18 against McGavock and Bolivar. Dunn had 20+ against Bolivar. Poston shot good from 3 against Bolivar. Everybody on the roster scored against FRA. Freshman Key led that game with 10. LA played some zone, some m2m, & pressed alot. Bunch of guys have REALLY improved especially Peterman & Ramsey. Coach played lots of guys. Pick your poison!
-
At Harpeth play day:
LA 64 FRA 17
LA 47 McGavock 32
LA 69 Bolivar 60

Sounds great LA! Go HOG-EYE!

lookin forward to it

So with the way the season come to a sudden halt last year in the opening round of State tournements what is your expections this season? I think we will have a very good team and could possably make it back to the state games. I dont think there will be much problem winning the district except for maybe Upperman. Should be a fun season!!
Sudden end? I guess so after winning 20 in a row. When your season ends, its sudden no matter where you are. Its just better to go as far as possible, huh? Lets go farther this year. Lots of good teams on the schedule.
This might help understand where expectations are with Coach Melton and the players:

Anyone know results of playday?
Livingston Academy.......
I know LA beat Smyrna bad. Smyrna may have been missing some football players....not sure. LA beat a good Culleoka team by bout 10 or so. Culleoka is big and should have a shot at single A. Then LA beat Gallatin by 20 or so. Not sure who all was missing from these teams. Pretty sure Culleoka had a full roster. LA played everyone in the Smyrna game and played almost everyone against Gallatin. Rotated about 10 or 11 against Culleoka.
Bearden.....beat Siegel in a close one. Both are big but Bearden is huge. Siegel beat Dickson County.

livingston will be very good in AA.
This is my prediction for Middle TN AA:
1. CPA
2. Giles Co.
3. Livingston Academy
4. Howard
5. Station Camp
(If you see any oversights please mention)
Dude Howard is not in middle TN
-
wheres livingston academy at in this?
anybody but me have faith
can i get a hogeye?
I think LA has a great shot. AA is very competitive. LA's gotta be in the top 5 or 6.
-
the wildcats have several weapons with Dunn leading the pack but he can have a off game and LA still very good team they have aout 8 players that will have decent nights now and then and not all of them will be bad same night so I believe the cats will be undefeated in district play.
LA played 8 or 9 deep last year but I think they'll be deeper this year. wow.
-
Is LA gonna be there yucky??
LA will be there.
-
Ok lets be realistic, Dunn can play and LA will be the team to beat in 7AA. They probably will win out and roll on to be beaten in the State Tourney by CPA. Let's get this thread off of trash talking and back to breaking down the districts please.
Interesting. LA plays CPA Nov. 22. They played in HOF last year too (CPA won by 7) and both wound up in Murfreesboro. Another preview of things to come?

bump

I think its on November 8. Just wandering what teams will be there and can't wait to see the schedule.
-
Lookin forward to it. Go LA!
-
Who dropped who???
I think LA was playin Bolivar at a Thanksgiving classic, but Bolivar is going somewhere else now. LA still plays Ensworth. Goin to Florida had nothing to do with those two games.
-
True. Upperman will be tough returning everyone. The LA/Upperman double headers are always fun and competitive. LA should have the upper hand though. WIN STATE!
-
LA should set State Champs as there goal. That being said, there are other teams good enough to win it. A championship is a possibility, though. Senior laden yes, but I'm sure COach Melton will have young kids on the floor alot, building for the future. Coach likes a tough schedule though. I'm sure this years will be tougher than ever.
-
Franklin ended up winning the tourney at Belmont, beating Ensworth, and Moeller (Cinci) twice........
I know Franklin has a very good team. At Gallatin, they beat LA by 6 without Dunn.
Thoughts on Clarkrange/JC game
in Girls Basketball

I guess Heady's addition to Clarkrange evens it up a bit then. Maybe without L.L. it wouldn't have taken 11 tries to beat JC.
