  1. Central should be real good. They have several starters who have started on varsity for the past 2 or 3 years.

I remember they were real young a couple of years ago. They have good players now who are older and experienced.

  2. I understand what you are saying, but for class 1a Temple is number 7 on the strength of schedule and success. At least give them some credit. We'll find out just how good they are when they play South Pittsburg in a few weeks.

Not really. South Pittsburgh is a 1A team too.

When looking at talent, you have to consider the level of competition. I know colleges do.

  4. Big Games in 6AAA this week.

Red Bank / Soddy Daisy and Central / Ooltewah.

Who do you all think will be the winners?

The Owls should be the odds on favorite, but Central is playing well and could suprise Ooltewah.

Soddy Daisy and Red Bank is a toss up.

  5. I believe Ringgold may have the best team in the Chattanooga area.

You did say Chattanooga area didn't you?

They have two excellent pitchers and I believe they can hit as well.

We should find out some more Monday because they play Red Bank, and I think Red Bank is very strong as well.

  6. I agree. Ooltewah will be really strong, but I don't think they will be as good as last year.

Losing Higdon and the other big right hander will hurt more than you might think.

Not to take anything away from this year's team. I know they have Burke and Howard and some other pitchers, but those two were awfully tough.

It should be a good district to watch. Top to bottom, as talented as any around.

  7. I agree with Catsbackr.

Red Bank will be strong as well.

I know quite a bit about them, they have several excellent young sophomores.

Soddy Daisy has some great talent as well, and I think everyone knows what Ooltewah has.

    Just curious, Catsbackr.

Did you see something negative about last year's Central team?

My son's team played them three times, and they seemed very respectful. I think their attitude problems left a couple of years ago.

    Just curious.?

  8. Central has almost every position player back. I know they were real young last year. I believe they had some freshmen and sophomores starting on varsity.

They lost their catcher, and I believe they lost some pitching.

They could definitely be in the mix though.

From what I know, I would say Ooltewah should be the favorite followed closely by Soddy Daisy, Red Bank, and Central.

  9. Good posts.

As a former high school coach, I can tell you those days are gone.

There is a major problem with society today and a lot of parents exemplify it.

This problem is lack of responsibility or accountability. If someone screws up, they want to blame someone else. If somebody's kid screws up, they want to blame the coach. "It's ok Johnny, you're an all-star. That blasted coach doesn't know what he's doing."

This is the mentality that the majority of parents display today. As coaches, though, we know this up front, so we should expect it.

In other words, "No use complaining about what we can't fix. Focus on what we can fix."
