1. QUOTE(old44 @ Apr 4 2007 - 11:02 AM) 826429716Didn't Mark Campbell play at Tennessee High with Derrick Hord? I know that Chris Troutman and Willie Malone played at EHS, Marty Street at HVHS, and Grady Hill at Cloudland. More that come to mind: Doug Verble, HVHS, Kelvin Avery at CHS, Chris Wilson at HHS.

Mark Campbell went to Eliz, then transferred to Bristol.

Willie MAlone was one of the finest Basketball players from Carter County but he went to Hampton, not Eliz,we wish he had went to Betsy,we would whave loved to had him,hes a classy guy.

QUOTE(The_Alliance34 @ Apr 4 2007 - 10:42 AM) 826429694ellis went to DB... who would your starting 5 be? i heard that you all had a couple of good players from the virgin islands in the 80's

Wouldnt even start to name a starting 5 because all were not in my time!

I would leave someone out and then be accused of being bias, lets just say they were all great for their schools!

Ellis went to Eliz first! Then DB!

We sure did and we did well with them!

  3. QUOTE(The_Alliance34 @ Apr 4 2007 - 09:46 AM) 826429647better than dugger?

Wow, where does a person start here?

Willie Malone,Milburn Ellis,Ken Long,Grady Hill,Harry and Dennis Mckesson,Mark Campbell, Chris Troutman, Marty Street, Buff and Tony Walker,David Ellis and the list goes on.I know I left out MANY GREAT players but these were just off the top of my head!

  4. QUOTE(warts4u @ Mar 28 2007 - 08:56 AM) 826424705When was Dugger and Tolley ever united to begin with? What contact as player coach did they ever have? I know Tolley never played for him, and any one who knows Tolley knows he probably couldn't have played for Dugger.

They are friends and both HAmpton guys!

They have a great mutual friendship.

  5. QUOTE(cyclonedad @ Mar 28 2007 - 08:42 AM) 826424687VERY GOOD POST,WELL THOUGHT OUT!

What about this scenario: LEn Dugger doesnt get the Betsy job, but as a way to keep the Dugger faithful happy and do the baketball program justice, hire Leon Tolley as Eliz Head Coach, Tolley makes Dugger varsity asst and JV coach.

Hampton takes JR Campbell, Tim Campbell or Ned Smith, all of which would be good hires for them.

NOW before you DAWG faithful jump here, I hate for you to get your feelings hurt but, is it impossible to think that Leon has had enough of HAmpton? Wait now, think, Eliz would be more pay toward his retirement, a bigger program and a chance to reunite with Len Dugger. Honestly, that would be a "Bruce Pearl" type move for Betsy. Their program would flourish greatly!

I just spoke with an Eliz adm employee who said Alexander is pretty set on Ned Smith. Smiths wife is a teacher at Eastside, like I said before, heres the smalltown politics again!

Im not knocking Ned Smith, hes done a fairly good job at Cloudland but Eliz is not Cloudland and Smith should NOT be hired JUST because his wife teaches there!

  6. QUOTE(Redalert @ Mar 27 2007 - 12:17 PM) 826424004I know for a FACT that J.R. is the 13th Disciple!! Nobody can build a birdhouse, train a Tennesee Moutain Walking horse, create a positive winning attitude in basketball and walk on water like he can. Besides why would brother give up the head girls job and A.D. job at Boone?

The world needs MORE leaders like JR Campbell!

Besides, there is nothing wrong with being a little crazy when you have a good heart.

    Wow!

What an opportunity for Carter County Schools and Hampton High!

JR Campbell, little brother Tim,Ned Smith all of these men would do a great job at Hampton.

If Elizabethton makes their usuall POLITICAL hire and mistake to not give their job to Len Dugger, then someone at Betsy should quickly call JR or Tim Campbell and hire them as Head Basketball Coach.

Why would we expect that, they have already sit on their laurels and let Tony Gordon go to Morristown West. Gordon recently told an area sports writer that is a personal friend of mine that if he had his choice of any area job, it would be Elizabethton, sorry Coach, too late now, they have to play politics and pass over guys overqualified like you and Dugger.

I hoped that with Alexander getting his second chance that he would be able to look at the big picture and start fresh, doing whats right and needed for our system. It appears now that wont happen and they will continue to operate under the buddy system. By the way, I just heard today that Alexander will appoint one of his buddies as the next prinicipal at EHS. A friend of mine said that his Dr. and others are waiting for that critical mistake and then they will hit the media hard with past inappropriate actions of this young guy.

Some things never change, do they?

I no longer live in Betsy but Im from there and a Betsy fan, but you folks over there better get to your school board quick and stop this silly petty politics.

As I remember a certain administrator saying a few months ago, everyone deserves a second chance. Is Len Dugger getting his?

Dugger is one of the finest basketball coaches in this area, what did he do so bad, get caught up in building the best team he could get?

Did he pay to get the former Virgin Island boys to Eliz? I think not, he was only the coach that tried to make winners out of a bunch of small town boys. If thats a crime then maybe all area coaches should not be given a chance.

    SHAME ON YOU ELIZABETHTON!

  7. QUOTE(single7 @ Mar 20 2007 - 12:29 PM) 826418432The bottom line here is everyone who is on a baseball team has a right to work and try to push the other players , this makes everyone better, nobody ever said anything about changing the line up ,I know why he did this and you do too, why would any high school coach not want to go to the bench and bring out a proven senior or have them in case of an injury, these kids have accepted their rolls but they had no choice,I really hope they win the state because of the love i have for the kids as far as the coach he did them wrong and he will have to live with it,he should be a teacher first and baseball coach second, what kind of message has he sent to them? Funny thing to me is no other coach in the tri cities can understand why he did this and they all said they would love to have all 3 of them to play and not just pitch,I guess every coach in the world is wrong and Payne is right so I am done with this but I watched all these kids grow up and play and he didn't you and i and alot of other coaches always gave these kids a CHANCE to play and that's what they deserved at this level too.

I am just an old Eastman employee, former player, but I did play at the professional level for a few years. Ladies and gentlemen, let me tell you that you DO NOT do this at the high school level. In college, yes that may happen, but sometimes the pitchers with the day off will be called on to pinch hit! I have heard great things about the new baseball coach but he is wrong in this case! I have been told that the middle school program is at an all time low.Someone hired an ex-college player to coach them and a co-worker said he has a family member there and that this coach does absolutely no coaching!

The Supt or the board had better take the ath. program by the horns or Eliz will keep slipping until we are the laughing stock of East Tenn! This years basketball team has already given them a good start.

  8. QUOTE(CycloneFan @ Mar 1 2007 - 10:51 AM) 826394773PantherDad:

How bout a little scouting report on your Lady Panthers?

CycloneFan,congrats to the lady 'clones on the big win!

I actually caught the game on the net, those guys did a very good job!

    Gametime sat 6 630 or 7 pm?

I am actually off sat and will try to get over to Betsy!

  9. QUOTE(GLee @ Feb 23 2007 - 12:41 PM) 826385895This goes on and on and on and then Wilson has to take his young men out and compete. Wilson will read or be told of this and the kids will undoubtedly read this stuff and you don't think it will effect the coaches and the kids mindsets and focus?

Listen, I learned from football and also apologized to Coach Pless for inseason complaining. Problem solving is best left to post season. Yes, it does effect the coaches and the kids. Just ask them..........

Now, carry on if it makes you feel good and you think it is the right thing to do for EHS. Or be man enough to own up to your mistakes on here and quiet down this matter until post season. It won't be long.......

I thought you all would get the hint but I guess not with comments like Wilson will read or be told, ever thought it was his choice and a done deal?

Oh well,GO CYCLONE BOYS AND GIRLS!

  10. QUOTE(hhsgamer @ Feb 23 2007 - 11:49 AM) 826385818What I would like to know is what college head or assistant coach would be interested in the Elizabethton job? Here is the deal once again...I don't care what anyone in Elizabethton says or how much "inside information" they have. Len Dugger will not be the head coach, he had his chance and it is over...futhermore Wilson has not even stepped down and they are still playing and you guys act like he isn't even there. I have to say though I am not surprised, the fans is Elizabethton have always thought they were smarter than the coaches...that is why there really are not good in anything anymore. Just average at everything.

hhsgamer, why would you come on here insulting Eliz, its program and most importantly our kids!

We dont do this to you or Cloudland, Unaka, or HV.All have great kids and very good staff!

Yes,EHS is down but not gone!

Have you EVER thought taht just maybe some of us at EHS, that are not as smart as you, may actually have knowledge that a coach or situation is changing?

Just because it may not be common knowledge, doesnt mean it is not going to happen,i.e. such as a coach resigning or whatever!

Now, with the Len Dugger thing,i have personally ask some of our new school board what they think of Duggers return and have been told their OPINION!

1 member told me that while the board doesnt hire or fire teachers or coaches and thats not their call, that this member is very much in favor of Duggers return! As a matter of fact that person told me that they PUBLICLY SUPPORT HIM!

  11. I read where former Cyclone,Katie Hubbard is continuing her hitting clinic at the college level, Katie hit a homerun on the first day of the season in a double header.Katie jacked a GRAND SLAM in a fall tournament and so far this young season, she has 2 HR 2 DOUBLES AND 4 SINGLES! What an awsome performance by OUR BETSY FREASHMAN ! CONGRATS KATIE!

Hubbard, a ball crushing slugger, is starting at catcher on the collegiate level.

This is an outstanding honor for a fine young lady!

For those of you in the East Tn,Western NC and Southwest VA area, King is a program that has alot of young kids and will be looking for high school juniors and seniors that can step in and play as freshmen.

I have seen several of those play but the girls catching my eye most are the Canady girl at Unicoi and also the Unicoi 3rd baseman, her name escapes me at the moment though.

Eliz has the very best 3rd baseman Ive sen play but she is only a soph, Madison Mckinney. This girl is a sure D1 prospect if she keeps her head on straight and dont let distractions off the field hurt her!

  12. QUOTE(coachh17 @ Feb 22 2007 - 11:26 PM) 826385346Congratulations to Rikki on another great year! Go Buffs!!!

Congratulation Rikki on a GREAT season, your career at Milligan looks like it will end up much like it at Eliz, a WINNER!

Also, congratulation to Halli Spaeks from Unicoi, way to go ladies!

  13. QUOTE(GLee @ Feb 22 2007 - 12:04 PM) 826384451The kids usually know more than we do as far as what is going on at the school and on the teams. Personally, I give them quite a bit of credit when due. No doubt......but putting 'bad blood in the water' at this time is not good for the teams of mention. These young folks minds need only wander about thier current task at hand. You are wrong, no question about it.

Lesson learned............I should have kept my 'posting mouth' shut until after football season. This board usually is a 'biotching board', and is not good for the athletes as reading material. Yea, it keeps us old folks a bit 'feathered up' as well. You are right on the point that "if you don't like it, don't read it". Problem is, most seem to believe what they read.

These kids you speak of have a mission and it doesn't need to be 'clouded' by adult clatter at this time. Or are you for the kids?

If you want some news, see me...........

some good points, but what news and see you how?

I dont know what you mean about football,I must have lost something there. I dont think anyone,or at least most folks, dont want to hurt kids, like you said though, its good readn for us old folks!

  14. QUOTE(GLee @ Feb 22 2007 - 09:59 AM) 826384272There are several opinions but they are best held until the kids finish up. A lesson learned.

Not always GLee,kids are smarter than we sometime give them credit, they usaully know more about these things than we do!

If anyone doesnt know about the Eliz,Hampton and Uanka situations, they msut not follow these programs, thats all!

krich, does a win in the district mean enough that Unicoi should be ranked #1 over Elizabethton?Remember,Eliz beat them both regular season games meaning 2 wins vs 1 loss.I dont think youre being very fair to our kids, show them some love!

  16. QUOTE(daleriddell @ Feb 22 2007 - 08:57 AM) 826384191I appreciate that bouncepass but unfortunately I didn't inherit a big last name from my father. Probably couldn't pull many votes. Came from a family that actually had to work for what we got. My dad worked a job then came home and run the farm in the evenings. Not a political family to say the least. But I wouldn't trade where I came from for one day in the big dawg's shoes around our school board. I wouldn't be very good at it because I wouldn't want to kiss enough rear end to get things for my school. It's a "you scratch my back and I'll scratch your's" schoolboard that we have in Carter County. I wouldn't do well in that scenario. And, I would also want the right people in place in my system. Not just family and friends. Most of the common people that go to these games year after year know who should be where but we keep our mouth's shut and go on. We all know who should be head coach of this team and that. And what really kills me is that our politicians actually think we're too stupid to realize when someone that does a great job is getting the shaft. The coaches that really behind the scenes do the best job (throw out game nights, wins, losses, and looking good in your coaching shirt), I'm talking practice, preparation, improving players, monitoring academics, actually caring if a player is a good citizen or not, etc. They are always the coaches that get left behind because their daddy ain't the big shot in town. Bottom line, that's our situation in Carter County. You can talk and talk about how things could be, but that is our biggest problem. Can it be fixed? Don't know, depends on whether the common folk ever really get fed up enough or not I guess.

dale I agree with bouncepass, your post are well thoughtout and speak of the truth!

I hope we in the city have corrected our problems with that type of stuff but you never know when it comes to polictics.

I guess we will see when Mr. Alexander appoints the next basketball coach,IF Coach Wilson does in fact stepdown!

Everyone knows the situation with Len Dugger being friends with former board member Doc Sams and the rift between Sams and Alexander, but Sams is gone and we will see if Alexander is the right man for the job, we will see if he can let go of the past and do whats best for the kids and the program,NOW FOR BARB AND OTHERS , THIS IS JUST MY OPINION!

Come on starman, krich, bouncepass and others, lets hear your comment on this situation, krich,Ive NEVER known you to be quiet because a situation may be fragile!

Guys, dockers and ties shows a little class, theres nothing wrong with making your team look respectable when they travel,I applaud any coach for that!

  18. QUOTE(EHSFAITHFUL @ Feb 21 2007 - 12:56 PM) 826382831I understand that Tim Campbell has always been interested in returning to Hampton and this very well could be good timing for him. Leon Tolley is devoted to the Dogs in whatever capacity they need him to be and I've always admired him for that. I know Leon and Len are very good friends and have always talked about coaching together one day. It may be a long shot for both of them to land at EHS but if it were to happen, good luck in finding a seat in AL John Treadway gymnasium.

After talking with Coach Weems a few times, I believe he is pretty content right where he is (and why wouldn't he be). He's doing a great job and gets phenomenal respect from both players and fans from EHS. He seems to be a first class guy on and off the court.

As far as Coach Chambers goes, if he makes a move, it will be upward, not lateral (AA possibly even AAA).

Bottom line is all of these coaches are great ones and any area team would be blessed to add them to their staff. And, I see nothing shameful about posting any information on here as long as it pertains to East Tennessee basketball. I've talked to school board members, athletic directors and coaches from different schools from time to time and more often than not topics like the one mentioned above often come up.

To those of you who think Len Dugger is not the top candidate for the Head job at EHS, you're wrong. At one time, Mr. Ed was out and everyone said he would never be back and the voters spoke out and elected a new school board, and guess what, Ed's back and from what I'm hearing from at least 1 school board member (a friend of mine) and a whole lot of cyclone boosters, is they want Len Dugger as head coach of the Cyclones. And, we all can't forget, Mike Wilson is still the coach until Mike Wilson decides to give it up and we should support him if he stays.

So here's my shameful comment for you blood thirsty sharks to circle around, "All the above mentioned programs are going to be playing baseball and softball a lot sooner than expected."

    GO CYCLONES!

Don't just be proud, be thankful!

    Very good post EHSFAITHFUL!

Let me clear something up here before it goes any further,I have never slammed any of these coaches, some are better than others but thats true from ditch digging to open heart surgery!

ALL these coaches that I mentioned earlier are top notch people as far as I know!

I honestly hope that all Carter County/ Eliz Teams reach and win the STATE CHAMPIONSHIP !!!

We have a great bunch of kids and people in Upper East Tenn and we are very fortunate to have some great teachers and coaches!

  19. QUOTE(icecold06 @ Feb 21 2007 - 08:38 AM) 826382398you have to put the arents in teir place before the season ever started and you also have to put administration in thir place meaning this is how I a going to run my program that you hired me to run I need your support or I will go elsewhere, sounds bold but it works I promise I have seen it everywhere I have been

Coaches dont put adm in their place or they find themselves searching for a new job!

Maybe a college or pro coach and then just MAYBE!

  20. QUOTE(barb @ Feb 21 2007 - 10:25 AM) 826382558You obviously don't know much about student athletes. The news that a coach is leaving can be devastating for both boys and girls whether true or ,in your case, hearsay. It seems irresponsible to post such things, particularly with all these teams prearing for regionals.

    I obviously do!

    I have my own,THANK YOU!!!

If you dont like the info put out, dont read it!

This site is soley for informing fans and is fun reading,I didnt make this stuff up!

If you are so up on your coaches and teams then go find out the truth!

IF,you read the WHOLE POST,I asked krich and starman to comment,I find most of their info is very reliable.

krich has some inside connection at Betsy that usually tells him whats happening before it happens and starman has much of the same.

Go out and cheer your team on and if they let a post about a coach leaving or changing jobs cause them to loose, then they dont deserve to win anyway, even if its my beloved CYCLONES!

    GOD BLESS YOU!

  21. QUOTE(barb @ Feb 21 2007 - 09:44 AM) 826382478This is a bad time for this type of rumor to be flying, Think for a second what this info will do to the Boone girls heading into regionals not to mention your own Betsy girls. While it is certainly newsworthy if true, your timing is shameful.

    Not shameful at all!

Betsy girls knew that Weems had an interest in ADM earlier this year and I NOR NONNE said Tim Campbell was even interested in Ahmpton, just that his name was mentioned as their next Head Coach, you think maybe he might have some sayso in that one!

Again, it was put out as NEW info,if everything posted on here was GOSPEL,then it would be different.

I cant speak for the girls but I dont think this would effect how either team plays!
