  1. Mayfield whipped Milan good last night. I would be very excited if I'm a Cardinal fan this year. You guys look to be strong but fast, to go along with balance on both sides of the ball.

Milan will be fine. Do they have a lot of work to do? Yes, a ton. But I feel sure the players and coaches can get it done. We don't care about the score of a scrimmage but we do care about competing every play Last night that just didn't happen. The Dawgs will be ok but the next few days are probably going to be pretty intense.

  2. The Bulldogs scrimmage the Mayfield, KY tonight at Johnnie Hale Stadium. Hopefully both teams can get their work in with no injuries. Milan should be good this year and has the talent to make a deep November run. What is everyone's opinion? Can they reclaim the district title from Westview?

  3. Ok, my bad. I wasn't even thinking when the last reclassification was done. South Gibson is a small 3A, but yet they didn't have a Senior class this past year. It was Freshman-Juniors. They will eventually be 4A in my opinion. Not that any of this really matters... I was just expressing my opinion on it and letting it be known that I think they will eventually be in 4A.

I agree - I think they will be 4A at least by the end of the next classification period. Of course knowing the TSSAA, they will change the system by then.

  4. Apparently the folks in this thread think Milan will come to Patriot Stadium and run Henry Co. off the field. I think they are in for a surprise.

I don't really see that happening. First, HC is always a force when they step on the field and anybody that follows Milan knows they don't really care about the result of a jamboree or scrimmage as long as we show we can compete. They use it mostly as an game time evaluation. Henry County may do the exact same or may play all out to win. I really don't know enough about them to say. I do know this Milan team is very talented!! It's gonna be a fun year to be in the Purple & White.

  5. I saw South Gibson's team last year against Gibson Co.'s JV team and South Gibson won by a TD or 2...that could be an indicator on how "good" South Gibson was last year. They do have some good players on the team in Avery Phillips as well as Carlos and Quincy Walden. Michael Keel is not playing football at Gibson Co. this year and I would not be surprised to see him make his way to South Gibson and play there. Good luck to South Gibson this year!

Hello there GCP!!! It's almost that time again. Can't wait to see the teams hit the field this year.

I had heard that Phillips wasn't playing football this year. Just something I heard a month or so ago. He may be there with the team everyday, he was agood talent for sure.

I hope down the road the Hornets can put a good team on the field consistently. The Bulldog's need a new rival and this one could be a natural seeing as close as they are located to each other.

  6. I am anxious to see Camden when they come to Nashville on Saturday night in week zero and face off against David Lipscomb. That should be a battle!

I wish Camden the best but I don't really see them hanging with DL in week 0. I am worried about the Lions being able to keep the success of the past going.

  7. It is great to have another Gibson County team to throw in the mix this year. I know there is a ton of excitement about the new program and I can't blame you. Now being excited and being sucessful are 2 different things. You guys stand a chance to have a respectable 1st year. I only see 3 games that I think you have a good shot of winning this year. Not trying to rain on anyone's parade but your team is in for something they haven't seen before, Class AA football. You should be able to handle Gibson County in my opinion but you can bet they don't want to lose to the new guys on the block. I can't see you beating anyone else in District 13AA play but you never know. 3 wins really isn't that bad in the big picture. If you get more than that everyone will be impressed with your program. Gonna be a long year.

  8. I would like to know the correct date for the Ripley vs. Milan football game. After looking at the websites for both schools, Ripley's schedule indicates that the game is to be played on October 14. Milan's schedule indicates that the game is to be played September 9. Which one is correct?

Sorry, I couldn't get the following links to work.

    http://ripleyhighschoolfootball.webs.com/footballschedule.htm

    http://www.hometeamsonline.com/teams/default.asp?u=MILANFOOTBALL&t=c&p=NewsStory&newsID=25213&s=football

The game will be played on Oct. 14th. Can't wait..............

  9. Three of your Preseason Top 10 3A schools will be in action on the same night in the same stadium on August 12th beginning at 7PM! The Pepsi Mid-America Football Challenge will take place in Paris, TN and Henry County High School will be the host. Your number 10 Camden Lions will face the Marshall County (KY) Marshals at 7PM, your number 7 Westview Chargers will tangle with the Lexington Tigers at 8pm, and your number 2 Milan Bulldogs will battle the Henry County Patriots at 9pm. This is for sure going to be one of the best showcases of high school football on this year's preseason schedule anywhere in the state of Tennessee! Anyone in the interested in seeing competitive high school football at its best....should no doubt mark this date on your calendar!

    Looking forward to it already!!!

  10. Talked to a friend from Lexington last night and he said that Lexington wore Milan out yesterday in a scrimmage. Somewhere in the neighborhood of 5 TDs to 2. Said that the Tiger offense moved the ball at will and that they are absolutely loaded.

Any thoughts from the other side?

I couldn't make it to the scrimmage but I would imagine the Dawgs will be just fine come this fall.

I know Milan started a freshman at QB yesterday,(Other 2 QB's playing baseball) Don't really know much else about the scrimmage but heard the Bulldogs looked to be deeper than last year. Way too early to know where everyone will shake out. I am already looking forward to the upcoming season. Good luck to Lexington also!!

  11. Read today that Coach Ward has accepted the Head Coaching position at Crockett County. I think this will bring new energy to the Cavs football team. I really don't see much of a drop-off since they both run very similar offense's.

Camden could be in trouble depending upon who they hire. Ward built the program into a high level AA program. It will be hard to keep that sucess going without Ward there.

Predictions for 2011 - Crockett Co. 9-1 Regular Season , Camden 8-2 Regular Season but early playoff exit.

  12. ZERO!!!!!!! Guys even with a multiplier we are one of the smallest schools in 3a. I am the parent of a tution student who happens to play football and believe me it is more about the school itself than football. Most of the tution students at Alcoa are from Blount County. If you know anything about school systems here you know that both county high schools are over crowded and are in need of a lot of well to simply put it alot of things. Sorry Blount County School system but thats a fact. Bulldog fan #2 now that you know the situation here maybe you can understand why some folks like myself have decided to move our kids out of the county. :flower:

#1 - with a multiplier Alcoa would be in 4A

#2 - I agree with your assesment of the 4 county schools. If I resided in the area my child would attend Maryville or Alcoa. That, we do agree on.

  13. Alcoa gets some players from the county area. Knoxville is in another county 30 min away. Plus, Blount Co has three other schools. Milan has a BIG advantage, they pull all the good players from All Gibson CO. Where Alcoa has another championship school only 5 minutes away called Maryville. I bet Milan gets to pick from more of a population than Alcoa!

Man, even you don't really beleive that statement!!! Gibson Co. has 6 high schools in a county of 48,000 people. Alcoa is 1 of 4 high schools in a county of over 105,000 people. Plus you have a major metro right next door with a pop. of over 423,000. Now you infer that you don't draw kids from Knox county but you know you do. Heck I remember you guys getting a stud all the way from Jefferson Co. years ago. Don't think the yellow bus picked him up though. :roflol: You just trying to play good defense by playing agressive offense. I have seen both situations and it's not close. That doesn't mean it is illegal!! It's just not apples vs. apples. That's ok though, it is what it is and our goal in 2011 will be the same it is every year. Win the State Championship!!!

  14. Just curious, how many schools that are sanctioned by TSSAA run drug tests on their students that play sports. I have heard it is up to the school board of the county. Would like to know about your schools, feel free to chime in. Thanks in advance.

Milan Special School District recently implemented a policy that drug tests all athletes 3 times per year.

  15. i have reliable info that says ward is going to crockett but i just cant see why after what he has built at camden

IMO I can see him going. The biggest issue being he has done about all he can in Camden. He would have a larger pool of athletes at Crockett, it is a bigger school. He would be somewhat comfortable with the administration since one of his direct bosses would be a past Milan Bulldog teammate. If it happens I wouldn't be shocked.....

  16. If you have any schedules from 13-AA for 2011 please post.

I hear Milan is still looking to fill one slot? You may know if it has been filled.

Teams on the 2011 schedule include:

    Martin Westview

    Crockett Co.

    Gibson Co.

    South Gibson

    Haywood

    Covington

    Ripley

    Trenton

    Humboldt

The first 4 teams are in our 13AA east pod. The second 3 teams are out of the 13AA west pod. Humboldt & Trenton are county rivals. I beleive we host Trenton to open the season in week 0.
