  1. David Mang is/was very good but he was not a 3X State Champion. I believe he was 6th as Freshman, 2nd as Soph. OT match with Jay Adamson, Alabama State Champ as Jr., Tn. State Champ as Sr.

He put on a takedown clinic against Clarksville at the State Duals his Soph. year.

  2. Just a little bit of preaching. I've wrestled for a long time now and been around it my entire life and this is what I think of wrestlers and the sport in general.

WRESTLERS are the strongest fastest and smartest athletes in the world. But that's not what makes them unique. They are the MOST dedicated people in the world. They sacrifice their lives to a sport of fighting. Where practice is 3 hours of lifting and throwing and conditioning. 3 hours of a literal street brawl. They give up there social lives. They cant party and get drunk because making weight on Saturday won't allow it. They cant go smoke after school cause they worked too hard to get into shape.

They have no team out on the mat with them to help get past an opponent. They stand on a mat with all eyes on them, alone, no one to fall back on when they make a mistake, no safety to make the tackle, and no goaly to make a diving save. They are the leanest meanest and strongest in the world. Ladies want them, men want to be just like them. So this is a tribute to all those who sacrifice everything, their free time, their food, and most importantly their life. Why would someone work so hard, til they are puking in practice, sweating in their 3 layers and a sauna suit or skipping that badass party? Or why would they induce the blood sweat and tears? Or the early morning runs, or mid day workouts or the extra run after practice to lose that last pound to make weight. The road in wrestling always ends in tears. The man that takes second cries cause his dreams are over, and the man that wins it all cries more than anybody because finaly everything that they have afore mentened is finally worth while. Wrestlers will wrestle through anything because they are friggin' wrestlers. And greatness walks right with the word wrestler.

I salute all who commit there life to something greater, something bigger than themselves. Wrestlers dont wrestle cause they like it, you would be crazy to like to beat yourself up on a daily basis, and get beaten up by teammates and opponents just as much. Yet there are the few who love it, they do it cause they were born to. These select people I applaude. There is no future in wrestling, no pro league, no million dollar contract. Just a smelly practice room and a dream to be great.Wrestling is not a sport, its a way of life.

    Good post!!

  3. I was told Mang was the only SR. that placed. I do not have any info on Freshman, Soph's or Jr's.

Pavlou & Konz were 1 match away from AA. Speaking of Konz, I have been a huge Ryan Konz fan for years, I was disappointed for Ryan that he did not win a State Championship and happy for Dean Pavlou who won State. Even though Ryan didn't win State, in my opinion, Ryan is 1 of the best wrestlers that Tn. has ever produced. I look forward to following his wrestling career with U of Indiana. Best of Luck Ryan!!

  4. While at a Bradley match a few years ago this kid, he was about in 6th or 7th grade at the time, was running around and playing and sliding on the floor and having a good ol' time when BayouBear says to him, "One of these days I'm gonna be watching you out there on that Bradley mat", and the kid's reply was, "Yeah, if you live that long!". Hilarious!!! I asked that kid, when I saw him at the State Tournament, if he remembered saying that. He said that he did remember it and that he was very embarassed that he said that, therefore, I will not associate his name with it. A priceless quote from a kid!!!

  5. Congratulations to Mr. Whitaker (4-timer)!!! After the way last year's match went down with Francis leading and then getting caught on his back and pinned, I knew this should be a great match. It was a great match again with Francis taking a 5-0 lead after a very good throw and 3 back points. Mr. Whitaker went to work and came out with the pin. Great Match!!! I have been watching Bailey since his 7th grade year and he has always been a very exciting wrestler to watch. I am very happy for Bailey and I look forward to seeing Jeff Francis next year at State. Great Match and Congratulations Bailey!!!

  7. Well, it has been a heck of a ride through all these years of wrestling. I have traveled many miles and sat in many bleachers and have witnessed many ups and downs, more ups than downs though. Lots of good memories of great kids, coaches, referees and parents. We have been fortunate to have made so many friends across the state of TN. I will not call folks out by name for fear that I may leave someone out, but it has been very nice traveling, talking and cheering together for many years. I would like to thank all of the Coaches and wrestlers from all across the state who have helped my sons. A very special thanks to all of the folks who had so many kind words for my sons during their moments of disappointment. I will still look in from time to time but this is my last post. I will leave the posting to other dads and coaches and other critics. We will carry these memories of wrestling and friendships made the rest of our lives. It has been a wonderful time and now I am looking forward to the next chapter of my life which involves doing a whole lot of camping, hunting, fishing and just basically doing a bunch of nothing. God Bless You All, Good Luck and Best Wishes.

    Mr. Randolph,

I will be there. Just look for the younger coach with the Saint Benedict crew. If we haven't found each other I will make my way over to the Bradley section on Friday. I was actually sitting right next to the Bear faithful at the finals of State Duals, we likely missed a golden opportunity then. I have actually met Hunter a few times and enjoyed it (I helped him hand out awards at the Frosh / Soph state tournament two years ago, he was showing off his state championship ring at the time ). He is a fantastic kid. What are his plans for after graduation?

I am not sure if Best of the West will be able to get to the tournament as he should be in class. I don't know if usfjim will be there either as he likely has to work. I am sure he would kill to be there if he isn't... I just can't remember him being at the last couple.

Look forward to meeting you as I always enjoy your knowledgeable input to this board. Just one thing, please call me Kevin or kdx, I'm not that old and calling me MR. may get me to thinking that I am getting old.

kdxdude....it doesn't have to be that way.......have another.......adopt....or...I'll give you a good deal on my 9th grader.

Harry........the sticker.......not that there's anything wrong with that.......

Looking forward to a whole lot of me time camping, hunting, fishing and pretty much doing a whole lot of nothing.

The way your 9th grader grew I might not be able to afford to feed him. I've been used to feeding a 12 lber.

  11. Last 3 days of High School wrestling for me, It's been a he77 of a ride. Very glad to have chatted with all these folks on here (hmmmm, even Soms). Look forward to maybe meeting some of you guys at the State Tournament. A few in particular are Best of the West, WrestleSBA, and usfjim. Good Luck to all!! C ya!

Ok thank you for your honest knowledge on the matter. With that said is these coaches from Bradley had to be in contact with him for DM to show back up at Bradley. Legal or illegal?

I don't know for a fact that the Coaches were in contact with David. Do you? I do know that there are several factors that were involved, that have absolutely nothing to do with wrestling, as to why David moved back home with his Mother. In my opinion, all this banter is irrelevant. David's Step-Dad, Loc Tran, is my best friend. Even after David was dismissed, Loc still remained close to Bradley's program. Loc owns a restaurant and he even donated a lot of food for the Bradley Invitational hospitality room as a lot of restaurants do in Cleveland. Loc and his family are part of the Bradley Wrestling Family and have been for many years. It may have been hard for him to accept, but he did accept David's punishment.

I feel you have some sort of agenda with this matter and I also feel you are beating a dead horse. Really it's simple-trouble, punished, will be with team next year. kdxdude

  13. QUOTE(stinger03 @ Feb 14 2007 - 10:47 AM) 826371343[/snapback]

So he was told when he got kicked off the team that after the wrestling season he was allowed to come back to wrestle for Bradley?

From what I understand when he was released from the team the question came up about rejoining the team next season and from what I understand (I was not present during that conversation) is that it would be considered at a later date when all parties involved had time to let cooler heads prevail. It looks as if the Coaches have decided to give him a second chance (much deserved IMO).

  14. Try looking at it this way, he got in trouble, he got suspended from the team for 1 wrestling season, he transferred back to Bradley, he will be on the team next year. The kid served his punishment set down by Bradley Coaches, he will be back next year.

Whatever he chose to do after being kicked off of the team was his choice, had nothing to do with the Bradley Coaches, he chose to live with his Dad in Alabama so he would be able to wrestle. If you look at it from the Bradley Coaches point of view (I am not a Coach) he did his punishment and they are giving him a second chance. I know this is the right move and I am certain there will be no third chance, therefore this has taught the kid a valuable lesson. Come on show a little optimism in the kid. He is a good kid and I know it hurt him deeply to disappoint his parents, just on that fact alone I don't believe David will have any more trouble like this.

So lets me get this straight,,,,,,all you dads are now going to be recording your son's potential next round opponents? I guess you all better start charging your backup batteries.

Not sure if you are replying to my post or not. I said it says in the rules you are allowed to film. I did not say that I would be filming my son's potential opponents. It would be legal to do this but IN MY OPINION I do not feel this is the right thing to do. kdxdude (Kevin Randolph)

  16. BCB, it's all good in da hood. I just came back from a 2-day trout fishing excursion and lo and behold they is 6 pages of debating over this. I told you I was not so sure about the rule on videoing and I came home got on TSSAA website, saw it there in black and white and end of discussion. I told you that day there was no hard feelings and I meant that. I'm a tell it like it is guy, what you see is what you get. Nuttin' but love for ya bro. Good Luck to Tee and the rest of the ND crew. C ya!

Oh yeah, babybearmom is not Mrs. kdxdude, just for the record.

Sorry to upset you so much that you would feel the need to throw insults at me (twit) on a message board. I guess that I could continue the circle by calling you names and trying to insult you but all that would do is pull me down to your level and everyone knows that you would win on experience.

Like I have said many times before I am a Middle Tennessee public school graduate that has retired (do not own a home in Tennessee) to South Florida where I fish one day and play golf on the next day and try to complete the "honey do list" for my wife. I do know some people that graduated from Father Ryan (many years ago) but I can't say that I have a close relationship with anyone at Father Ryan now.

If you thumped the Irish as badly as you claim during the last few meetings then what is the big deal? When is the last time that the two teams wrestled in a dual or in the same tournament? Was it before the split because I didn't know that Bradley wrestled Tennessee private schools?

Like I have said before the Bradley program and the Brandon, FL team coached by Russ Cozart are very much the same.

To answer your question, the last time that Bradley wrestled Father Ryan, it was at Christian Bros. H.S. Duals Jan. 2005. I'm not sure about the score but I believe Bradley defeated Father Ryan H.S. by 9 points. I am sure that Bradley won.
