1. 19-0 after 3?!?! in the substate game!?!? Wow, thats insane. Did USJ play insanely good with a bad Mitchell pitcher or what? Thats crazy.

City school baseball just isn't that good. Mitchell was the best of the city this year in AA, but they're still no match for the best of region 7. Covington beat Hillcrest 24-0.

Same thing happens in the region 8-AAA tournament every year. Both District 15-AAA teams won 15-0 in the region semis.

So the only four city teams to make it to play non-city teams this year lost by a combined 73-0.

  2. In my opinion, there is no reason that softball and baseball region tournaments shouldn't be four-team double-elimination tournaments. Here's my thoughts:

    1) All the district and state tournaments are double-elimination as they should be.

    2) Why make only the region semifinals single-elimination?

    3) Why force teams into a make or break game immediately after a double-elimination district tournament and just before an upcoming double-elimination state tournament?

    4) It would only take three days to play a double-elimination region tournament, starting on Monday, finishing whenever the TSSAA deemed necessary...probably on Friday with Saturday as a make-up date possibilty.

    5) It's only fair to all teams to play double-elimination throughout the tournaments.

    6) Get rid of the sectional contest (too much travel involved anyway) and take all 8 Regional winners in each classification to the State Tournament.

Fair enough? What does everyone think? Thanks.

    :)

Do you really want to guarantee that someone from, say, Region 8-AA will be in the state tournament? No offense to anyone from those 11 schools, but they'd pretty obviously always be 2 and 'cue, and probably run-ruled.

I like the Limbaugh plan better.

  3. I thought that West Memphis Arkansas was the back-2-back defending champions in Arkansas. We blew them out from the get go.

They are, but WM usually has several key players play both BB and football, and their football team is still alive in their playoffs.

Also, IIRC they lost a bunch of seniors last year.

  4. Also most people forget that the Braves started out the season with Raul Mondesi and Brian Jordan in the OF. Those two didn't fair well, bring in the young guys and they step up. Marcus Giles, goes down with an injury. Estrada gets banged up and McCann steps up. Chipper is down, and the Braves keep on winning. True the the Cards may of missed more games total, but they didnt have to deal with a suspect bullpen at best, and alot of rookies.

    The Cardinals' bullpen wasn't suspect?

And would you rather have Abraham Nunez or Andy Marte? John Mabry or Adam LaRoche? So Taguchi or Jeff Francouer? Einar Diaz/Mike Mahoney or Brian McCann? In every single case there, I'd rather have the rookie. Talent is MUCH more important than experience.

  5. I agree the dress code is not the best idea. I think it does appear to be racially biased. However, the league gets to set the rules. Look at the uniform police in the NFL.

My point was that Camby is being paid millions and thinks that someone else should pay for his street clothes. Too many NBA players have a mind set that they have entitled to special treatment.

Let me help make your point more accurate. "Too many people have a mindset that they should be entitled to special treatment."

You know there's guys in the NFL that would say the same thing. But nooooo, we can't dog the sacred cow of the NFL. And there's idiots all over college and high school sports too. It's a society problem. The only difference between NBA players and a lot of our high school and college athletes is that they have money and microphones.

  6. LOL! I would like one of those BFL plaques also? The pen was really horrid and I feel like with a pen the Braves would have taken care of the Stros and had a great series with the Cards!

I know the Stros will be tough no matter what, but the Braves just made it alot easier on the Cards, wearing out the Stros BP and weakining the starting lineup! Well I am a true southener and I support the teams closest to me and I may get it thrown in my face, but I hoipe to see a Cards-White Sox world series go 7 games and 20 innings in game 7! Good Luck to All the teams!

By the time Houston will play again, they won't be tired at all -- they get Monday and Tuesday completely off -- the only people to be adversely affected by then would be Backe and MAYBE Clemens.

  7. You know opperman it is funny how you show up after the milk is spilled and talk smack when you havent spoken a word in a while, and we all know had the Braves advanced and beat the Cards, we still wouldnt be hearing from you, so what you say has effect on me! GOOD DAY! :thumb:

Haven't had time to get on here lately, and then my computer dying last week didn't help things.

Due to my job, I'm probably going to be down to once-a-week or so, and the last few weekends have just killed me in terms of energy. (I'll put it this way, I work in a college athletics department...and with football every weekend AND being responsible for all our other sports too, I don't have as much coacht time)

  8. i like how the Cardinal fans think its without a doubt Albert Pujols but the Braves fans know for sure its Andruw Jones...and in reality its a coin toss, could go either way cause they both deserve it. maybe they'll share the MVP that way nobody gets shafted. i've got another opinion on the injuries that i would like to share with the cards fans and "BFL"....when you have Pujols, Edmonds, Rolen, Walker, and Sanders you can lose a couple of bats and still be ok.

Yeah, but when you lose Sanders, Walker, AND Rolen, as well as Yadier Molina...and you STILL win 100 games.

I could see Jones getting it this year, but I think Pujols had the better year. The fact that he made his team that much better shouldn't be held against him.

  9. So in that case you are saying that if you have a million-dollar arm then you are dumb and if you dont then your smart? I know you are wiser than that so that cant be what you mean! Maybe you just need to clear up why you are on here attacking a MLB pitcher and the man has done nothing to make anyone think that he is not intelligent and has proved that he is a team player! Truth be known, you have nothing against Farnsworth accept for the fact he plays for the Braves! Had he been traded to the Cards you would be talking about a wonderful addition to there bullpen!

Said it the time, I'll say it again now. No, he wasn't a wonderful addition to anyone's bullpen.

  10. justdontno, you need to belly up and start talking! You are a pretty cool cat to chat with, but your AL EAst division(is the best in baseball) is one game away from being done for the winter! The White Sox nor the Angels look intimidated by the Yanks or the Sox! I know, the Braves may get eliminated also, but you talked as if no one wanted any part of theses two teams, that they were just that tough! All I said was that the Braves played in the best division, top to bottom! I hope to see a Cards/Braves NLCS, theses boards will be blasting if that happens! :thumb:

BTW I started this thread on the Braves and I dont know if anyone else has noticed, but my 5 reason have looked pretty good! ;)

And your NL East IS done for the winter. Beaten by a team that was never even in the race in the lowly NL Central. So sad...

  11. I dont see the sense in this trade for the Grizz unless it was just to cut salary!

    825733820

I think it does make some sense. Williams and Posey were troublemakers last season, so West wanted them gone. Considering they got Eddie Jones and a little more payroll flexibility back for what they were trying to get rid of, I think they came out ok.

The four guys they were trying to get rid of were Williams, Posey, Wells, and Swift -- Swift left as a FA, and they got Bobby Jackson and Eddie Jones back for the other two, and they used a large chunk of the freed-up money for Damon Stoudamire.

  12. All I know is when St. Louis wins 13 straight division titles(soon to be 14), then you can rag on the Braves. The Braves bring in a couple big name free agents every now and then, but if you notice they are gone in a couple of years. Braves win through their depth of their minor league system. So go ahead and think your Cardinals are on the same level as the Braves, but they're not. A real baseball fan wouldn't think the Nationals would win the division, cause the Braves have been slow starters lately but always deliver. That is like thinking the Orioles would win the AL East, some things will never happen.

    825712100

Get 9 rings, then we'll talk.

  13. I will be rooting for the preds except for when they play the blues.  Looks to me like they will be better than my blues this year, but all of those games are exciting no matter what.  I am looking forward to all of them.

    825711541

I'm afraid the Blues are in long-term trouble...the Lauries are trying to cut every corner they can since they're selling the team. Hopefully they sell to a local owner.

  14. 2/3 inn 1 hit 1 run

So what Izzy 2/3 inn 2 hits 1 run and a walk

Giving up runs is part of baseball, do you know a pitcher with a 0.00 era with as many innings pitched as Farnsworth? BTW, over the past 3 years, Farnsworth has been very consisent and has been able to be very effective late in the game out of the BP!

    825711799

The guy has a career ERA of almost 5. 5.05 as a rookie, 6.43 in 2000. 2.74 in 2001, he's turned the corner, right? Nope, 7.33 in 2002. 3.30 in 03, now he's got it, right? Nope, 4.73 in 04. 2.whatever this year, he's finally got it, right? Personally, I doubt it. He's established a pattern.

And to answer your point about Ortiz earlier...he's a 1B/DH, and Minnesota already had a bunch of those -- Mientkiewicz, Mike Cuddyer, Mike Restovich, Matt LeCroy, Bobby Kielty, Casey Blake...they couldn't keep all of them. Ortiz was about to get a lot more expensive due to arbitration, and he'd been injured more often than he'd been healthy. All that to say, they felt Minky, Cuddyer, Restovich, and the like would handle 1B/DH cheaper and more consistently.

There's no way you can claim the Cubs didn't have room for him in the bullpen. With one of the worst pens in the NL, they traded him for a group of players that doesn't look like it will be worth much for a MLB team.

  15. Or just having the money to spend! It doesnt take a great front office to buy players, but it takes a great front office and great scouting to be able to succeed with your own players! The Braves do not have one player starting in the field that they did not bring through the ranks themselves(LaRoche, Giles, Furcal, Chipper, Johnson, Jones, Francouer) and that includes Estrada who was brought over from the Phillies, but spent a year or two in the Braves minor league system! But the Cards who only have 2 that start(Pujols and Molina) have 6 players they bought(Grudzielanek, Eckstein, Rolen, Sanders, Edmonds, and Walker)

    825711809

Grudzielanek, Eckstein, and Sanders were the only free agents. The Cardinals didn't buy Edmonds, Rolen, or Walker, they traded for them.

  16. One thing I would like to ask is.....When Jim Edmonds was batting in the 8th he had a ball that almost hit him and his bat went around as though he had took a swing and the ump said that he was trying to get out of the way........But I thought that if your bat went across the plate in anyway it was a strike no matter what.........

    825711720

No. The rulebook doesn't say anything about the bat crossing the plate. It's the umpire's judgment whether the batter "struck at the ball". Spinning out of the way clearly isn't that.

The bat crossing the plate is one of the tests umpires use to determine that, but it's not part of the rule.

  17. First of all, you are putting words in my mouth, I never said he was a GREAT pitcher, I said he was a a good addition to the Braves bullpen and anyone who knows baseball, knows Leo will have this man pitching ever better than he was he got to Atlanta! BTW if David Ortiz is so great, why did the Twins release him? And the rest is history! Some times teams just make bad moves and I bet if the Cubs could have Farnsworth back right now, they would take him. As far as the knee spraining incident, this is the first I have heard of it, but if this is in fact true, we all make mistakes right? Or maybe you dont?

    825710646

There are some mistakes that are a lot stupider than others.

Farnsworth is a reliever who goes back and forth between being good and being awful, and he hasn't learned anything yet about how to be consistent. Sure, he could...but some things are less likely than others. I particularly liked his 8th inning appearance today, though not quite as much as I liked Reitsma in the 9th... thumb

He's an ok pickup, but he isn't wonderful.

  18. Braves just played bad they will win Saturday and Sunday.  With Chipper Jones returning to the line-up today they will beat Jason Marquis.  The pitching matchup today is Jason Marquis for the Cardinals and Tim Hudson for the Braves who will win today and tomorrow!!!! thumb

    GO BRAVES!!!

    825710559

How many runs is Sosa going to give up tomorrow? If it's 2 or more, the Cardinals will win.
