1. Is there any way we can get the stats and play by play from you  for  the USJ games at Barlett?  Noticed that all of them but the last USJ vs Harriman game is up on TSSAA site.  Thanks it was was good to meet you.

I don't know why those didn't get on the website, I e-mailed them in...

E-mail me and I can send you the HTML files.

  2. CBHS Roster

CBHS has been ranked no. 1 all season.

Packer is 6-3 and pitched against MBA on Tuesday in the state tourney opener, a 21-2 win allowing 0 earned runs, no walks and only 2 hits.

How about a little shout out tor the Tennessee Baseball Report - who covers baseball at every level in TN... www.tbca.org

Heh...sorry, I didn't see this before I went on the air, and we didn't have time for me to run off between D-II and AAA -- we never went off the air (the controversy in the third actually helped us, because we only had to babble randomly for about 20 minutes between the D-II postgame and the AAA pregame.

  3. Also, if you know anyone who is at USA Stadium, we're broadcasting a low-power broadcast on 105.1 FM. By low power, I mean you'll have trouble hearing it at the concession stand, but it should be strong enough for anybody in the main grandstand behind the plate to hear it.

  4. How about back to back HRs by the same 2 players in consecutive innings!!! USJ's Brian Petty and Hunter Garrett accomplished this feat today. Anyone aware of this being done before at any level of baseball?

    825682938

Well, they weren't back to back...there's a batter between them in the lineup.

Either way, they became the fourth and fifth players, respectively, to hit two homers in a state tournament game (nobody's ever hit three), and USJ's four in the game tied the tournament record for single-game team homers.

  5. and this one to Opperman:

Is anyone carrying the games live on Friday? I can drive over and get them on if that's needed

We're broadcasting the finals on www.kptr.com.

  6. Why would anyone admit something that is not true! Spurrier will kick your butt off the team in a hurry if you are not a contributer, but if you can help him win in anyway, he will find a way to put a positive spin on it, or try to make another university look worse than his!

    825682846

...and Fulmer has kicked out how many of the players currently facing The Man about criminal issues?

  7. A valid point, for sure.  But, I get on this morning to check the scores and look at the box scores that the TSSAA website makes room for and find very little.  Class A has four of the ten games posted, class AA has none, and class AAA has all of them.  I understand the problems with webcasting, but can they at least not have a couple of people from TSSAA there specifically to update these box scores?  If for no other reason than for the players' sake.  Make the trip to the spring fling as special as you can.

    825682412

Only one class A site (me) was keeping score on the computer to be able to generate the HTML boxes, and apparently AA wasn't either.

The computer program is pretty simple, but it scares off some scorers and I know we were a little shorthanded this year in terms of scorers.

  8. Harriman fans wish to apologize for the actions of one or two people chanting bad things to the DCA players.  It was not 10-15 people as stated and we have asked the guilty parties to refrain from the activity.  But also, the DCA fans also called Harriman a "bunch of rednecks".  This is what started the whole thing.  Hopefully the game will be played on the field today and all fans will cheer for their teams as they should.

    825682455

It was a heck of a lot more than just one or two. I wouldn't have been able to hear it if it was.

  9. Don't let the Vol haters get under your skin. Fulmer runs a tight ship at UT! He got rid of Onterrio Smith a few years ago and look what  he did! He goes to Oregon, plays and becomes a NFL RB. By looking at his recent troubles makes one wonder why nothing was said at OU right! There are numerous others  such as theLouisville WR so Fulmer cleans house as needed.

    825682356

Spurrier runs a tighter ship than Fulmer ever has. But nobody on here will admit it.

  10. I don't know about that.  You shouldn't say most, MAYBE less than 10%.  Trust me, I am from the area.  All of my family still live in STL.  La Russa has been one of the more consistant managers in the League.  So he hasn't one the big one YET, but he has gone pretty far on a small budget.  Compare the Cardinals to the Yankees and see how much money that each team pays their players, and wonder why the yankees even get beat with all of the money they pay out.  Even when we got swept by the sox last year, no blame was put on La Russa.  Our players just picked a really bad time to be on a slump.  This year is going to be different, though.  Check this out cardinals fans.....

    825682391

    Small budget?!

LaRussa is a Californian in pretty much every way, and he's still an outsider to St. Louis. He's still accepted by a decent majority.

He's done less of the stupid quirks in recent years (using worthless excuses for pitchers like Pedro Borbon and Jeff Fasserblow in critical situations because "they've gotta pitch" hasn't happened last year or this year), which has allowed his strengths -- the long-haul managing of the team, mainly in personnel matters -- to flourish.

  11. The same group of kids asked me if anything would happen to Harriman if they rushed out on the field after the game and I told them probably not, but it would be better to just stay near Harriman's dugout because you never know when a few fans celebrating a win could turn into a brawl.

    Luckily nothing more happened.

I do know that the umpirescame over and told Harriman's coaches to make sure none of their players were yelling choker, which they weren't. They said they couldn't do anythingto the crowd. Although the umps could have probably asked the fans (or had the coaches ask them) to stop heckilng or face removal from the game.

    825682363

The umpire can tell the coach that he'll be tossed if fans don't knock it off. I've seen it before, in pretty much all high school sports.

  12. y one when there are three games at each site, but like today at U of M, the first game started at 12, the second 45 minutes after the first ended then that site was done for the day.  It's not like they gave them time to rest, so why not play those games at 5 and 7, they are not gonna let them rest regardless.  But I agree with you that they do have to play some early.

    825682267

I'd have a lot less of a sunburn if we played at 5 and 7:45, that's for sure...

  13. I'm not trying to condone anyone's behavior, but I believe the parent who told his kid to throw at the pitcher did so after the USJ pitcher threw a fast ball just over and behind his son's head. I'm pretty sure it just got away from him, but I could see where the kid/parent would be mad.

    825682288

Yeah, I can understand that. And again, I want to thank you for your help this afternoon.

BBALLTN, old timer is right...I don't care whatsoever who wins what. I'm a Bartlett guy, I have no preference among any single-A schools. I'm just telling you what happened.

Like I said, Harriman has a great crowd here, outstanding support for a school of just 400 students that's 340 miles away. But unfortunately, I can assure you that 99% of the people running things at Elrod Field will only remember one thing about Harriman. And that's the group of fans chanting choker.

The 1% is me...I'll remember that, I'll remember they traveled really well, but most of all, I'll remember how much fun it is to keep up with the defensive alignment with all the triple and quadruple switches. ;)

  14. Don't forget the Basketball and Football are televised also.  It would be great if the Semi-finals on were televised.  I know it would be too much to ask to do all classes but at least you could have updates on other games while you were watching the game being covered.  And all classes championship games could be covered.

    825682185

If it would get ratings, I promise TV would find a way to get it done.

  15. Harriman had a dramatic come-from-behind win today over DCA, as I'm sure those interested have heard.

But to me, it was overshadowed by a group of about 10 or 15 Harriman fans chanting "CHO-KER" at the DCA pitcher. It was one of the most classless things I've ever seen at a high school game.

It's a shame, because the vast majority of their fans were good, supportive fans. But that's not what neutral people or DCA fans noticed today.

I saw one Harriman parent go over and tell them to quit it, but they ignored him and kept going the rest of the day.

Again, don't get me wrong, it wasn't most of the fans -- and Harriman traveled extraordinarily well. But that left an impression, and not a good one.

  16. If you work, like most of us, and do not have a close tie to someone in the state tournaments you probably are not in Memphis today at the tournament.  In football or basketball, you could log on to the TSSAA's website to check the play-by-play, refreshed every 30 seconds.

Baseball (like all other spring sports) are left hanging in this aspect.  If your team's radio station isn't at the game (and if you don't have radio access at work - webcasting as well), you have to rely on CoachT posters for the information.  Thanks to all of these people, but boo to the TSSAA for saying that the Spring Fling is worthy enough to charge state tournament-like prices to get in, but not to provide the same amenities as the state's other sports.

    825681882

It's hard to set up livestats. I tried to set it up for the site I'm doing baseball at, but it won't work for two reasons -- first, there's something wrong with the software, and second, there's no internet connection at the field.

Basketball and football are on a university campus with plenty of internet bandwidth, and iamoz himself wrote a couple of nifty programs to read the stat files and post live stats in game.

  17. The ultimate law of baseball:  You have to get the last out to win.

    825681522

And it's even worse. With 2 outs, there was a routine grounder to the second baseman, got through him, and that made all four runs unearned.
