  1. Can I help it if Hillwood has gang problems? I didn't start the fight it occured and was dealt with. So i am supposed to believe that metro arrested some 200 kids or this situation involved some 200 kids and none of them could of been a football player. Is that not even a possibility or is that so above such players at Hillwood. Maybe you should look the problem instead of trying to blame it on an outsider. This has nothing to do with the success of thier football program, but what is has to do with if individuals are treated different because they are a part of the program that is different. Here is another question if a player at Hillwood was involved and was one that was arrested would the coach take any action or say instead that it is a police matter and they will punish that person.

  2. I find it hard to believe that no member of the Hillwood football program was not involved in this fighting incident. The school has grown in the past few years, but to think that the at least a few football players were involved is hard to swallow. If a few players were involved did Link just sweep it under the carpet due to the success of his current football team? Trur or false it is a thought that has and will cross peoples mind. If players were involved do they deserve to be punished or will the admin look the other way. Ask Spring Hill they didn't look the other way they punished their kids according to the rules regardless of their being a member of the football team.

  3. Hillwood,

From what I have heard you guys are in a bit of trouble at Hillwood. I have heard from a few people that the gang situation at Hillwood is very bad and that the Football practices have been cancelled for this week due to gang violence in the school. This all might be rumor but it is going around. I heard that there was a metro school board meeting last night and Garcia was told to fix the problem and fast, so it will be interesting to see what will be done. Would it be safe to say that a few players might be involved in this gang violence in school?

  4. I agree Franklin in by far the best Div I team in the mid-state, but how will their upper weights fair this season. Their mid and lower weights will be strong with such wrestlers coming back as:

    Oritz

    Konz

    Davis

    Felix

    Heacock

I am sure I left out a few of their better wrestlers, so for that I am sorry. As far as Region 5 goes this season look for these teams to make a big impact in the state tournament. Think about how many teams in our region will place kids in the state tournament. Franklin, Brentwood, Page, Tullahoma, Blackman, and Centennial should all have medal winners returning to their line-ups this season. Here are a few kids that will make alot of noise in this years state tournament.

    Franklin

    Konz

    Davis

    Felix

    Heacock

    Brentwood

    Brown

    Holliman

    Page

    Pair

    Tullahoma

    Brinck

    Gessler

    Blackman

    Meredith

    Centennial

    Cope

And I think Jeremy and Big G will have the kids ready t go for this season, but Jon Hill will be missed as a huge part of that successful program.

  5. There has been a new date added to the weight certification process. The new date will be November 13, 2004 at Tullahoma High School starting at 7:00-10:00 on Saturday. If you have any questions please contact Wade Bartlett. This will be going on during the weigh-ins for the T-Town Rumble Jamboree. If any teams are interested in coming that has not already confirmed please contact me asap at millerj44@k12tn.net

  6. Each coach should have received a weight management program info packet sometime last week in the mail from Mr. Carter. This packet explains alot of the details of the weight determination process, but doesn't speak much of the dates when this procedure will be done for our wrestlers.

  8. Thank you, our booster club busts their tail to pull those tournaments off each year and without them we couldn't have a tournament. If we could contact all the coaches in District 9 then I have no problem coming to Smyrna to wrestle a district dual tournament. The only catch is that if it will serve as a date this is a bad time to ask any of those coaches to drop a date that they have set earlier in the year. Although I still have 1 open date that I keep open for awhile just to see if something came along that we wanted to get in on. I think a possible date would be Jan 25 (Tues) with our region duals set for Jan 29 (Sat) at whatever schools has earned it this season. Mark and if this doesn't pan out for this season we should bring it up at the region meeting. This is all depending on what happens next year when the classification might change things, so we might have to just wait and see.

  9. That is correct you are not required to wrestle all the teams in the district, but thats leaves you open to alot of debate at times of who is the district champion. I would like to propose that we in region 5 start a 1-day district dual tournament. This may only apply to district 9 which is the larger of the 2 districts. I think it is a good idea and if we in region 5 could get organized maybe we could get this done by November. I would assume that this district dual would not count towards your regualr season 20 dates. We would host the tournament unless some other district 9 would like to have the tournament.

  10. Masters,

That is a good idea with the single elimination district dual, but for this season I believe it may be to late to all the district coaches to get together and make a decision. Next season there will be all new classification and regions, so maybe next year this problem may be solved. Maybe I should just shut up and let this issue go because it is not going to change, and I guess we can live with for the year.

  11. District 9 Region 5 does not have the toughest teams year in and year out. Although District 10 of our region has 3-4 tough teams each year. For example Franklin, Brentwood, and Centennial. But the argument is that I have to waste dates because the mere number of teams that I have to wrestle within my district, and there are many other teams in other districts that don't have to waste those dates because they have a significantly smaller district. Why should Bradley Central wrestle and win 1 match to be district champions in their region. On the other hand why does a district 9 (region 5) team have to win 12 matches in order to win their district dual. So for example Red Bank who is 0-1 in their district will recieive a district runner-up plaque and the opportunity to wrestle for a shot in state duals. Now can you say that another team who must defeat 12 different teams within their district just to possibly receive a district plaque, now where is the fairness in that classification. As any coach I want to wrestle the best teams and tournament that I can for my kids to get the best compeition. When other teams who have 1 or 3 schools in their district that opens up more dates for that coach to take his kids to the best tournaments or wrestle the better teams. When you have 12 teams that you must wrestle for a district match then you have used more dates thatn a coach that doesn't have that many teams as we do here in region 5. I just want a even slate where each district has close to the same amount of teams to compete against. I don't think I or anyone who agrees with me is asking for something that is fair. Just keep it fair thats all.

  12. I think Mark has a great point about the unfair situation some regions have been put in due to this new change. How can the TSSAA honestly look at the new dual format and the new regions and convince themselves that it is a fair. We here at Tullahoma are still stuck with 13 teams that we have to compete against in order to qualify for the region dual tournament. The other district in our Region has half the teams in there district. I find it hard to swallow that this new format is considered fair or even workable. I am not pointing any fingers but for example look at Region 4 where Red Bank & Soddy Daisy will always qualify for their region duals. Many might say and most would be right that Soddy Daisy would make their region duals regardless of how many teams where in their district. That is not the point of what is going on with the uneven split in Region 5, which will not be changed due to the point this has happend and we just have to live with it, because the TSSAA will not change until it is something they want to happen. I agree with the large / small school dual state tournament, it is a great idea. The current solution is not fair to all and should be revamped before this season begins. For any school that falls into this situation, it has caused a schedule nightmare by having to wrestle all 12 of the other district 9 teams. So I am having to use many of my dates to complete this task which causes my team to miss out on some great wrestling because I have no dates. On the flip side of that teams in the other district of Region 5 will continue to wrestle the 4 or 5 teams in their district and have a better opportunity to make a better (Tougher) schedule, because of their mere number of dates. I can't speak for any other coach in the state but trying to obtain a district dual plaque is important to me and my wrestlers. Now many regions and their districts will get these plaques by default instead of competing for them. These are my thoughts and I have no reserves about speaking my opinion on a matter that should be important to all coaches whether it directly affects your team in either a good or bad manner

  13. Honestly Bobcat you have one great season reaching the semi-finals and you think you have a football dynasty. Have you checked out that playoff record Greenbrier has 4-12, so maybe you shouldn't puff that chest out just yet. It was just 2 years ago that Greenbrier won its first playoff game in the history of the school.

  14. Could be a long year for Tullahoma. Don't see a lot of improvement from 03.

That thought although premature might be correct. Tullahoma did successfully compete with 3 very powerful 5a teams (Lincoln Co. / Hendersonville / Oakland). Can you truthfully judge a team on a single scrimmage performance? The score of the game was 19-10 overall, but the 1's vs. 1's score was 12-10. The last touchdown that Giles Co. scored was on our 2nd team D. I will give Giles credit that they dominated the offensive and defensive lines and had a great game. Tullahoma was not ready for the scrimmage and it showed, its that simple.

  15. This is true about those county rivals not counting in the region and possible playoff berths. But you of all people can not believe that those games are not important to the overall season of any wildcat football team. I hear people say every year well just as long as we beat Franklin, Coffee Co., and Shelbyville I could care less about the rest of the games. I know this is not a true thought for all wildcat fans, but to think about the implications of winning those games is tremendous. Each week the crowd would grow with each victory over those rivals. The players would sense that urgency and I think would perform much better in region play witht the confidence and support from those rival games.

There is no doubt we play in a tough region and our opponents are tough, but I think much more factors into success than just region victories. I am not saying region games are not important, because we both know that we would go nowhere without the region wins.

The secondary will be tough as most of our defense will be. Hammonds and Bond will both play alot and be part of a possibly great defense.

  16. The schedule has not changed from last season. Although a few of our opponents should have a very good year. Franklin Co. is having one of there best years and will be a force come week 1. Coffee Co. has Nunley and Hartsell which could be a threat in the backfield. Ofcourse the usually region foes; Hillsboro, Columbia, and Shelbyville. With last year newcomer Hillwood will make for a tough year and a hard road to week 11. We will see..........
