  2. Here is some more OLD news:

--Morristown West's Taylor Hall not at UTC any more and not

playing basketball (Jr. College in KY??)

--Cookeville's Erin Helton transferred to TTU from UTC and

    not playing basketball.

--Upperman's Lashay Davis transferred to TTU and is sitting

    out for this year.

--Clarkrange's Tasha Phillips transferred to Roane State from

Carson Newman and is playing this year.

--Amber Gray former UT Lady Vol from Ohio at Xavier after

    medical issues at UT.

Some of the above is out of date now. Taylor Hall has decided to play again, has enrolled at UTC, will be suited up as soon as the fall classes at UTC are posted.

  3. Wondering the same thing myself? The Hargrove kid has played DE the last few years. I believe he made some All-State Lists in 2009. Very good player. When was the last Polk County player to sign D1? Mike Hammonds signed a few years ago at UTC (a step below D1)?

UTC is DIV I. In football they are in the Football Championship Subdivision, FCS as opposed to the Football Bowl Subdivision, FBS. FCS is the new name for Div I-AA. SEC schools, now FBS, were in the Div I-A. I-AA schools compete at the NCAA Div I level in all sports, such as basketball, softball, golf, etc.

So, no, Hammonds did not sign below Div I. He signed below Div I-A, but above Div II and Div III.

  4. Teen who lost leg in shark attack trains for triathlon

    Associated Press

LEBANON, Tenn. -- A 17-year-old shark attack victim who lost most of his right leg is training for a tag-team triathlon in San Diego, The Tennessean reported.

Craig Hutto was attacked last summer by an 8- to 10-foot bull shark while fishing in Cape San Blas, Fla. Hutto's leg had to be amputated, and he sustained severe injuries to his hands as well.

The San Diego Triathlon Challenge in November will be the first time since the attack that Hutto will swim in the ocean.

Hutto has been training every week for a 1.2-mile swim in the Pacific Ocean, just one of a three-part course that includes a running and cycling.

"What are the odds of something like that [shark attack] happening again?" he said. "You can't worry about stuff like that. I'll probably be nervous, but it's all in your head. It could happen again, but most likely it won't."

Hutto, who returned to his high school basketball team after recovery, has a prosthetic leg for everyday use and will soon be getting a special prosthesis for playing basketball and running.

"He just wants to try to get back into the routine that he was in as normal as possible," said Hutto's father, Roger. "And his routine was, obviously going to school, and being involved in athletics. He's always played sports."

Hutto's two brothers, Brian and Zach, are joining him as a team and have been training for the event, which brought more than 1,700 athletes last year.

"All of this has been done really on his own," Roger said. "We haven't really pushed him or encouraged or discouraged anything. We're kind of letting everything take its course, however he processes it."

Hutto was inspired to participate after a personal visit from Sarah Reinersten, who completed the 2005 Hawaii Ironman with only one leg.

"I can honestly say I never saw him go through a down time, or a period where we worried about him," said Brian said. "His drive is still there."

  5. Niccheaus Doaks does not need to be Mr. Basketball. He has the worst attitude of any ball player in the country.  I am from Lake County and I've seen him play. The only thing he has going for him is height. He needs anger management.  I dont see why UT Chatt even wants him.  I wouldnt want someone with a bad attitude playing for me.  And since he's supposed to be such a great ball player (which he's not) don't you think he would want to play for a better team then that?

Play for a better team than that? Oh, hmm..like maybe the Big Orange Tn Vols? Oh wait, Chattanooga beat the Vols this season.
