  1. WestTnWings,

JCM might beat Memphis East, but I'm not so sure that JCM is that much better than East. On paper, they appear to be about equal.

For starters, JCM & East both seem to struggle to beat Hardin County.

JCM has given up a ton of points this year, including 30 in one game and 26 in another. IMO, that's a sign of a shaky, inconsistent defense. On the other hand, East has a ton of speed and several playmakers, on the offensive side of the ball. Any of 'em are capapable of taking it "the distance," before you can bat an eye! When you combine these elements...it would appear that East has a good chance to pop some big-time plays, put lots of points on the board and, maybe--just maybe, pull off a "shootout" type victory.

I referred to a "shootout" because East's defense is not as good as their 5 shutouts would typically lead one to believe (BTW, I stated this fact on another thread, BEFORE Hardin County exposed East's inconsistent defense). East gave up 38 pts in one game and 22 in another! Based on JCM's offensive production this year, I expect that they'll get their fair share of points vs. East.

At the end of the day, the JCM/East game will likely boil down to turnovers. The team that makes the fewest will win the game. Simple.

    Final score prediction: 28-26

The big difference though, is that East struggled to beat Hardin County, and HC didnt have Adam Milligan. Milligan is like top 10 in the state all-time in all purpose yards....you just cant replace that much offense. And for East to have to win in the last minute, prolly says more about the level of Memphis City football than of them overlooking Hardin County. JCM wins this game....and handily!

  2. Are you talking about Lorenz? I was gonna ask about him again since I didn`t see his name on their team roster. Is Matthew Smith his connection there? i was wondering how a kid from Savannah TN ends up at a school in PA.

Yeah that is the connection. Smith's connection is even more amazing. One of Smith's coaces at Arkansas State was Mike Conway. Conway was the head coach of Olivet Nazarine College on the outskirts of Chicago when they came to Savannah to play for the NAIA national championship, I think in our 2nd or 3rd year of hosting. Conway, fueled by his success at the NAIA level then moved up to D-1 Ark St. and stayed there 3 years before landing the head coaching job at a small college in Kansas. Conway asked Smith to join him at the college level (Smith was coaching at Ripley at the time), and Smith joined him there. Conway was then offered the Asst Head Coach job at California, Pennsylvania, and took Smith with him. Long roundabout way for such a Hardin County connection to that University, but fact is sometimes stranger than fiction.

  3. It's a blow out Melrose is to much for Hardin Co.

The score at the half Melrose 21

    Hardin Co 0

    Welcome to Orange Mound.

dd4vols the tears have turned into laughter. so i don't need the pacifier any more.

You still need a pacifier! I guess you are glad someone else could handle what obviously you could not!! BTW, did you put on your Ridgeway uni, and go out and play in the yard Friday night?

  4. Thanks bluefan.....classy post. You would love to have us in a home-and-home schedule...you can ask anyone in West Tennessee...nobody travels (brings fans) better than Hardin County. We play a Memphis team every year, usually one of the inner-city teams...but it is usually they travel here...we guarantee them more $$$ than they can generate from their 'home' field.

And you are right, we did not agree on 'everything' about the HC/Ridgeway game. BTW, where is the Hudgens kid going to college? Best arm I have EVER seen in high school!

  5. Bluefan, part of the reason for playing sports is to learn how to accept defeat and victory. If you thought the display that Ridgeway's #5 put on was acceptible, then there is no need for me to even rationalize with you. He was not the only one either, just the most violent one. So are you justifying the reactions because they did not win? If so, I can understand why the players would take the same approach!

  6. Need Cheese with that whine, BlueFan? Hardin Co got ripped on the drive where they kicked the field goal with about 2 minutes to go. I was standing on the sideline even with the goal line..and HC scored twice....neither one acknowledged. Not the best officiated game of the year for sure. BTW, nice sportsmanship from some of the Ridgeway players aftergame....Completely made fools out of themselves on the field. Classless!

  7. My daughter from Oak Ridge is running in the cross country meet this saturday, called the Tennessee Classic. She does not know how to give me directions or exact location. She thinks she heard Coach mention Steeplechase, but she is not for sure. I will be coming from West Tennessee, probably up I-40. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in Advance!

  8. as solid a fundamental high school player that has ever come thru Hardin County...he could have definitely played D-1..a pure hitter...lots of people can catch the ball and throw...but the hitters are the hard ones to find...and he is a HITTER!...i know UAB and some SEC teams were sad to hear of this committment..if he stays focused..he'll be next HC star to ink a professional contract, write it down!!
