1. QUOTE(JIMA6578 @ May 23 2007 - 09:22 PM) 826465735Ranger 87 you make a good point now let me make a good statement. You go on by saying we could be better at doing this the coaching staff could be better at doing that players could be better if they did this. Thats the problem we want to sugar coat and make excuses for this baseball program except just going down to the state tournament.

It may have been ok the first trip but when you succeed on making 5 strait appearances and you cant find someway to get a win or take a big step than the year before or the year before that theres no excuse. And yes I agree the teams down there are very strong and yes most of them have the facilities to be better not only defensively but offensively but as seeing that baseball program over the past couple of years I can honestly say we struggle with fundementals, lack of discapline and extra work ethic.

Ranger 87 I have been around baseball for a while and not only have I played but I have been on the field as well and if you call the performance we put on down there competing and you are involved with the program then you need a wake up call.

if you can call 10-0 and 19-1 competing than you are sadly mistaken my friend and these kids nor the program needs to be satisfied with the results we are getting.

I agree these kids and the staff have worked hard to get where they have gotten there is no doubt in my mind these kids can compete with anybody but its going to have to take more than what we are throwing at them.

And answer me this Ranger87 if were competing and we need to fix things how come it's the same things that keep biting us every year that we have yet to fix?Catching routine flyballs catching routine groundballs, agressive baserunning, learning to bunt the baseball. I could go on and on at things we need to work on the question is will we do them? These are little leagues type of mistakes we are making in the field and yet did we make any adjustments.

Are we willing as coaches and players to take the time and show these kids instead of just telling them and actually make these kids work on the little things of baseball and help make themselves better players not only as individuals but as a team.

And until we quit sugar coating things and accepting bad results than these kids are never going to know what it feels like to take that extra step towards there goal.

And I also believe in order for us to become a better baseball program it all starts with the facilities. Besides a good field to play on what do these kids not have that these other teams do. For one we should be pushing for a hitting facility second for a team that has made 5 strait state tournament appearances deserves lighting for there own field I could go on and on.

The point is until we decide to start working harder to become a better baseball program and quit letting these kids know its ok to accept what went on this past week we will be doing them and the program an injustice and what you seen or heard about today will continue.

It's great to point all this out. However talk is cheap. What have you done to get lighting? What have you done to change any of these deficiencies? My point is that where we come from each person will have to do their part to get these facilities. The county's not going to provide them. Get with the coaches and tell them where the lights are coming from, where the indoor hitting facilities are coming from, where all these improvements are coming from. Begging in the streets won't provide the funds needed although the Creek was very generous towards our roadblock last Saturday without that we wouldn't have been able to even make the trip to State.

  2. QUOTE(bruno2 @ May 23 2007 - 02:07 PM) 826465413no, not "much more" it is 90% of the problem

Well Jim, Deke, Bruno and the rest, it's easy to sit back and hash it over and over and point out everyone's mistakes that they're making. Hindsight is 20/20, etc., etc....yada yada yada whoopie doo da day...... Could Acey be a better coach? Yes. Could Ryan be a better assistant? Yes. Could Brent be as good a fungo-man as Minton? Not a chance, but he's tryin'. Would they agree with that? Yes, except for the fungo part. Could I have been a better Dad? Yes. Who here couldn't be better than what they are now? How about you Cy? Can you be better? Or Tim, can you be a better Sportswriter. The spellchecker says yes. The point is we all have faults and weaknesses. We all wish we could go back and do things differently but we can't. Coming down on the boys and saying they can't or don't even know the meaning of 'compete' is total B.S. I've been with these boys a long time now and I've seen them at their best and at their worst. They deserved to be in Murfreesboro and I am proud of their accomplishments. I appreciate what the coaching staff does for the boys which goes far beyond what spectators see on the field. I would also suggest, now that it's over for me personally, that if someone has concerns that they offer their assistance to the coaching staff and team, and not "coaching" help, everybody wants to be the coach, there's help needed in a lot of areas besides the headlines coaching might get. I think it is important ,however, to work in conjunction with and in support of the coaches and not in spite of the coaches. The years to come will bring a good deal of discontent if there are more coaches on the sidelines than on the field. Whether anyone likes it or not it's the truth. Let the boys play and let the coaches coach. If you don't like the program then don't get in it. It is what it is. Can it be improved? Yes, and I believe it will. It has since we've been in it. I do agree that the boys have to have a better work ethic and be more focused to realize that improvement. There's a lot of potential there and work will turn them into better ballplayers. It also takes teamwork between the parents and coaches to realize a more improved program. Infighting there will spell disaster no matter how hard the boys work. Support the program. We lost today, whinning about it doesn't change a thing. Next year's another chance, start now and make the most of it because it'll all be over sooner than you think.....

  3. QUOTE(3Dgymnasium @ May 22 2007 - 11:25 PM) 826465025Is it true that there could possibly be a coaching change at Unaka highschool next season?

Not likely, we just got our scoreboard working. He'd be a fool to quit now.....

  4. QUOTE(BigDaddy14 @ May 11 2007 - 09:54 AM) 826457266His actions were the wrong thing to do, but Unaka are not free of fault either. They definately aren't angels. They were the instigators of the whole incident. Nobody mentions the fact that 12 was intentionally cleated. Unaka tried to play dirty the rest of the game. Also laying a hard tag is just good baseball, so he did nothing wrong in that respect. Church layed a hard tag later in the game to the UH Right Fielder and the dugout stayed silent.

So, if it'd been me he'd been diggin a baseball out of his earhole, or parts more southerly. It's baseball. When you're being disrespected you have to deal with it. If you dish it out you'd best be ready to take it back in return. There's no crying in baseball.....

  5. QUOTE(DekeRivers @ Mar 13 2007 - 10:32 PM) 826410994As for Babe Ruth Making the state Tournament. Rick Garrison and C.Y Peters won back to back State titles five years ago. Three years ago the 14's not only won the state but also the Ameteur Youth World Series. Last Year Peters took the 16's and won the State and played in the Dizzy Dean World Series, Tim Chambers won the State tournament with the 13's two years ago and with the 14's last years. Seems you don't know much about Babe Ruth Baseball

I'm well aware of that Deke. What I was referring to was the fact that you don't see too many Babe Ruth teams in Murfreesboro at the High School State Tournament. I don't think I have ever heard of a Babe Ruth team playing in a high school state tournament. That was a sarcastic comment. Comparing Unaka high school with Babe Ruth was Rangerbook2's attempt at an insult. I simply stated that you don't see too many Babe Ruth teams at the state tournament , meaning the high school state tournament, which is very true. This is a thread about high school sports after all.

  6. QUOTE(warts4u @ Mar 13 2007 - 08:16 AM) 826409956Hey Ranger87 who wrote those articles in the paper for you. Because obviously from the way you write on here you received help from somewhere.

Obviously. I took some night classes. Why, you interested in some tutoring?

  7. QUOTE(Rangerbook2 @ Mar 9 2007 - 02:14 PM) 826406299All you have to do is look who you have to get by to go state. You might have to play one or two descent teams (jFrankWhite, etc dont count /blink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="blink.gif" /> ). Aint like that everywhere, now is it? We prolly rank up there wit the local babe ruth all star team. Facts is facts buddy. We stink if we play anybody but local A teams. /laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" /> Coach was smart enough last year to keep T ready for conf games. Who is gonna play T this year?

Have you looked at who we have gotten by to get to state, Pal? You are an idiot. Rockwood and Harriman just to name a couple. Rangerbook2 , I doubt you are from Unaka, most likely some no talent hiding behind another screen name. My name's Noel and I ain't your buddy, facts is facts. I also went to the jamboree today and guess what? I personally saw Shane and Sommers catch pop-ups! It's all downhill from here, Buddy!

  8. QUOTE(Rangerbook2 @ Mar 7 2007 - 10:39 PM) 826404250I seen Unaka play several games last year. Medina makin all state tells you alot about class a baseball around here. /laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" /> We might do good but A ball is like babe ruth league around here. /blink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="blink.gif" /> Sorry but its true. Half them boys can't catch a pop up.

Not too many babe ruth teams make it to State on a consitent basis. They must be somewhat better than babe ruth to do that. Can you catch a pop up?

  9. QUOTE(Julius Caesar @ Feb 21 2007 - 08:53 AM) 826382418[behold, on this 20th day of February amidst a dark, cold, damp and dreary night it has been declared that not one team in the elustrious history of this heralded program has been so disapproved. Speak as you may sportiemom, Rangerbook, rangerparent, superman and 87, but the truth has been displayed amongst the dwellers of the empire . Be as it may, those held responsible for the weak at heart, one must be held accountable for the grooming of weaklings that refuse to defend the likes of those who threaten the magnificent kingdom of maroon. It has once been said that the sweat of those accountable must stand for the truth, but it cannot be further from it. Alas, these knights may pour in sweat to the eyes of a peasant, but the wise knoweth that it only pours in vein. It hath always held true that the senior knights must prepare the way for their pawns who seek their nobility, but ode to the duo who have shamed the kingdom and brought forth a dark era of disapproved labor..... a dreaded path of destruction. The true ranger empire, amidst the stoney creeks at the foothills of the holston ravine, recognize on this day that the record has been set in full and chiseled in the tablets of truth.

Howbeit, fear not those who choose to stand for what is to come. Although Julius has made such a declaration of truth, the sun shall rise and set on another day bringing forth young pawns that stand for justice and knightsmanship. To THE KING and all his men, shower yourselves in your wine and fine dining, for it has only been one victorious battle for the alliance. One must remember that the maroon empire has not been conquered just yet, and while you shine your armor and swords of silver, whe shall prepare ours which is GOLD, for the war rages on.

    Julius Caesar

Friday night I'll be in the concession stand, if you like we can discuss this more at length and face to face then.

  10. QUOTE(THE KING @ Feb 16 2007 - 06:33 AM) 826374126

Its funny how Ranger fans can only look at the past now that Ranger basketball has been destroyed. Those were some good players, but they are gone. The future only sees losing seasons ahead for Unaka. This has been the greatest season that I have ever had. Seeing Unaka dominated on their home floor has been the ultimate pleasure. I hope this tournament puts the finishing touches on Unaka's season and they will walk off the floor with their tail tucked between their legs like they have all season. This is great.

Small minds are easily amused. I suppose the best thing about your being the king, the king of fools, is that you can be your own court jester........

  11. There's not a coach in the country who could take 15 years away from the game and step right back in and not miss a beat. He's been back for a whopping 4 months. 4 months. Does anyone here honestly believe that they could be doing any better? Why do people feel the need to place blame? Whether it's with the coaches or the players, it's no ones place. It's between the coaches and the team. It's easy to show maturity and good character when you're winning, but it takes a real man to maintain his good character when times are hard. This is high school basketball, important yes, but not so important that anyone has a right to slander the participants who I might add have not posted ANY replies to any of these threads. To their credit they remain silent and play on. They're better men than any I've read from on here.

  12. QUOTE(Rangerbook06 @ Feb 14 2007 - 10:51 AM) 826371354

But king, didn't your beloved Highlanders lose to Chuckey Doak the other night? The same Chuckey Doak team that lost to Happy Valley twice and almost lost to Clinch?

But really. Coaching. Players. Its both. Unaka didn't show up last night. I guess they thought they would just walk in and win. Only one that seemed play any was Andrew. And whoever said it (can't remember who) is right. This Unaka team only has 7, maybe 8 players that can do anything more than just go out there and take up space. Theres where the coaching comes in. When you have numbers like that, you can't press for 4 quaters. You just cant do it. You have to play somewhat conservative. You can't play 6 or 7 players balls to the wall for the entire game. By the 4th quarter, they're done. Thats what happened up at Cloudland, against Central, and against Johnson County. There just wasn't enough in the tank. I can count how many times they've played strong deffense this year. on one hand though. Last night, I don't know what was going on. Half the 3 pointers Happy Valley took were airballs. But insted of going zone and making Happy Valley shoot, they ran whatever it was they were runnig and let Happy Vally drive inside for EASY lay-ups all night. But it probably wouldn't have mattered anyway as lazy as they were playing. Roper also hurt them cause he couldn't throw one in the ocean from outside, but insted of driving inside and at leats trying to draw a foul, he just kept on shooting the 3. Then he got mad and he let it get to him. He started throwing elbows and making hacks that weren't called and forcing his shots. Also, when Happy Valley misses the foul shot and Smith rebounds it with 6 seconds left, why not call a time out? I know Snavely didn't use all 5. But insted they just dribbled it around backcourt and didn't even get a shot off. And lastly, that was the a very bad officiating crew. Maybe the worst I've seen all year. The old white headed guy obviosly wasn't going to call anything on Happy Valley, and the flat headed guy just dosen't know what he's doing. Happy Valley only had 1 team foul in the 2nd half until 56 seconds left. But, Unaka didn't play good enough to blame the refs. It just seemed like they flat out didn't care last night.

But more important than any of this, John Fine passed away this morning. Lets all PLEASE keep the Fine family in our thoughts and prayers.

They care. Roper was playing through pain last night. His feet were his biggest problem. He couldn't drive because he couldn't hardly run.

  13. QUOTE(THE KING @ Feb 14 2007 - 08:57 AM) 826371182

Hahahahahahahahahahahahaa!!!!!!!! This is hysterical!! I cannot believe how great this year has started. I've never enjoyed coacht this much, until now. Every school in the county now owns the former state champs. I would have loved to see the look on Rangerbooks face after this one. Forgive me, people, the new has not wore off yet. The King and his honeymoon with the demise of Unaka basketball!! This is great. Now that the Big Blue Alliance is in total control of Carter County, we will set out to assert our complete domination of Unaka in all athletics. Our alliance is going to wipe Unaka off the face of the map. Who now has the power to face the King and the union of the Big Blue Alliance!! Whoooooo!!

All athletics would include baseball. I realize that you don't view baseball as a sport due to the fact that Cloudland doesn't normally win but that doesn't dismiss the fact that it is a sport. I guess we'll have to wait for baseball season to see if that complete domination materializes.

  14. No, Snavely's not killing the program. We lost. Brandon Whitehead had a big game in his last game on his home court. You can't take that away from him. It's been a tough year no doubt about it. This ain't the pros though, it's high school. You don't go around making demands about changing coaches like ESPN. It is what it is. If Aaron wants it I'm sure he'll get it in time and will do well. Causing more of an uproar right now at the beginning of the districts won't help the team at all. Saying it's over and done before we've even started the tournaments doesn't help either. When it over and they've played their last game then whine, but at least save it until then. Roper's getting some new shoes today, so he's just liable to pour in about 30 a game now. Publicly running down the coaches is not a solution.

Hey nosebleed, there's room on that bench. How about you go down there at the next game and dazzle everyone with your expert coaching abilities. It's alot easier to coach from CoachT than it is from the sidelines.

    50-48

  15. You're right. I don't know what I was thinking. You're way out of my league. What about checkers? Is your IQ as Big as your pecks? You have GOT to be your BIGGEST FAN! And who could blame you with dimensions like yours. You must be proud. Have you ever wondered, being 30 and all, if there were more to life than this? Do you ever win against Bird? That would be an accomplishment you could be proud of.

  16. QUOTE(THE KING @ Jan 30 2007 - 12:46 PM) 826351604

No, you are not mature. Cline, you are just a big chicken. Your daddy probably works on old Fords, and actually he could get rich doing that! Why do you think I take basketball so seriously? Have you not noticed all of the smiley icons in my posts. I enjoy toying with a momma's boy sissy like you. You are a joke who got lucky with a three ball every now and then. The future looks bright for Cloudland. We are going to put the finishing touches on the destruction of Unaka basketball.

You say "we" as though you had a part in it. I'd bet you couldn't even take me on a basketball court and I'm an old man. 38 with two rebuilt knees to be exact and I didn't even play basketball in high school.
