  1. From some of the talk here, I'm almost embarrassed to say I am a Scott High alumnus. I don't know about on-the-court play. . . I think they're pretty even. Off-the-court, however . . . I almost hesitate to say it because I am a new poster here and because I don't want to offend anyone in Scott County, but you guys from Scott could probably benefit a lot if you showed even half the maturity of the Oneida player represented on this forum.
  2. Jill, Oneida is 10-5 overall and 4-2 in the district so far. Two of their losses came at York and at Clarkrange against two real good squads. Another came out of the district against a decent Catholic team. The two district losses were against Wartburg in a game where OHS really didn't have it turned on and against Sunbright in a game that would really have to be considered an upset win for the Lady Tigers. Oneida is pretty good. They're still progressing and are playing well. They were probably most impressive in the Roane County Holiday Tournament after Christmas. Hard to say how the district and region will shake out. Oneida has been to substate for about 14 straight years and I don't see any reason why it can't happen again if they continue to show the improvements that they have shown thus far.
  3. I'm not trying to stick up for Headhunter but Scott is actually 8-9 excluding the hall of fame game at Coalfield. Counting the hall of fame game, they are 8-10.
  4. I pick Andy County. Kingston is one of the best defensive teams I have seen this year, but they just don't have a lot of offense. They're big and good on the inside, but with no ball-handlers, it is tough for them to score at times. With Anderson County's perimeter game, the Mavs win.
  5. Dunno about basketball, but I have to give Midway's PA announcer a vote for football. He's good at what he does, no doubt, but if you're the opponent you want to cry and beg him to shut up.
  6. C'mon, Headhunter, stop kidding. Coach Hall and Coach Windle agreed to that format before the scrimmage ever took place. You guys have your opportunity to prove your stuff: Take it to the court. Beat the socks off of your district competition. Last night was a big win over Lenoir City. Andy County is going to roll into town next week. Prove your point on the court. I hope you all do. Scott High School is my alma-mater, and I would love to see them in the region tournament.
  7. Here's a concept that might amaze both Scott and Oneida: We're in the same county. How about support one another? I have been to both Scott and Oneida games this year as an impartial observer. I'll tell you the truth: It would be a great game between the two of them. It's hard to say who would beat who. Neither team is decidedly better than the other. Who won the preseason scrimmage? It was very close to even. Neither team won by enough to say that they dominated the scrimmage. Coach Kevin Windle is doing a great job getting Oneida's program out of the slump it was in last season and back on track. Coach Bill Hall is doing the same at Scott, but it's going to take a bit longer, obviously. Scott is right where they need to be, they just haven't turned the corner yet. As for Oneida and Rockwood: It's going to be a fantastic game and I'm looking forward to it. With teams like Harriman and Wartburg still hanging around and wanting to play spoiler, perhaps even compete for the title, I wouldn't say the winner of Friday's game is going to walk away with the title, but it will sure give them a leg up! Close to even. I think Rockwood wins, but you just never know.
  8. Trae Helton is a class act. One of the most classy players I've had the pleasure of observing on the court or gridiron.
  9. A good game last night... Good defensive effort by both teams. Perimeter shooting was definately the key. Oneida made theirs early to take the lead, Rockwood just couldn't get theirs to drop. They had plenty of open shots down the stretch but couldn't get them to fall. I'm looking forward to next Friday night! It feels good to see Oneida sitting atop the district standings. Kevin Windle and Trey Shoemaker have done a very good job.
  10. I'm new around here; been lurking and finally decided to join, so I figured this would be a good spot to jump in with my first post and my 2 cents. I agree with those who have said that sportsmanship should be emphasized. This isn't war, this is a game. However, things have a way of filtering down, so I would bet that sportsmanship will begin to hurt at the high school level in another couple of years. It has just about disappeared at the college level, especially in football but in basketball as well.
