1. According to today's Knoxville News Sentinel, former coach Jeff Foster has been arrested and charged with three counts of statuatory rape. Allegedly, he had an inappropriate relationship with a player who was 17 at the time.

I couldn't believe my eyes! I almost dropped the paper! This is a very sad statement on modern society and hopefully all this will be proven to be not true. A major black eye for an excellent program!

The article can be found at knoxnews.com in the local section.

If coaching is not the problem then why has so many good players left this program. I can tell you from first hand experiance that coaching is the problem. You have a coach that destoys a girls love for playing the game. He is a coach that does not know the game and can not handle getting beat. He blames players when it is his poor coaching that loses games. There will be another exodus of players again this year because people don't want to play for a man like this.

Even JackSparrow has to say WOW to this one!

  3. I would like the opinion on Shot Clock.

We, Booker T. Washington, just came for the "Best of the West" tournament in Chino Hill, CA where they play a shot clock. We finished 8th in the tournament of 32 but we had to make a great adjustment with the shot clock. The people where shocked that we did not play with a shot clock. In a tournament in New York four years ago, We play against a shot clock and really struggled. I think at some point in time, Tennessee should go to a shot clock. What are your thoughts. I also know that some AAU events have shot clocks. I know the Rivercity Classic in Memphis does.

I think the shot clock in M.S. and H.S. would be awesome. I have been to many AAU tournaments and the pace of the game is sooooooooooooo much more fan friendly.

  4. Hey Pats! Great job at state.

also, I saw where Wolf made Prep Extra first team.

How does Catholic basketball stack up? I am getting slammed on here for questioning how a school with so many athletes is going to go winless in Nov AND Dec.

Hopi, does no one question why 33 girls have quit. Does anybody stay four years?

    Ellis has

  5. Rachel Templin is currently playing division 1 volleyball. Lori Purkey went to a D-1 school before transferring to work on pre-med. Amy Eckerly also had D-1 offers but chose to stay at home. Those girls graduated in 03. Mai Ferry had a D-1 offer but chose to play close to home, she graduated in 05, which was when my daughter graduated. And yes, there are D-1 prospects there now. The Sain girl is a definite D-1 player, and may be the best soph in the state. Likewise, Pittman and Hopi's daughter could play D-1. Bollinger and Dew will also play college.

As far as how tough is it to get to state, that shows your ignorance. AC finished third at state, Catholic, who is in their district finished second. CAK (who had Catholic on the ropes for a first round district knock-out and Stone Memorial make it the toughest volleyball district in the state for A/AA. Also, unlike basketball, only 2 teams go from the district to the region, where AC had to beat a powerful Seymour team which had only lost 3 matches all year. They did all of this with a freshman MB who had never played replacing 6'4" All Region Faith Dupree and a soph MB that had never played replacing 6' Emily Dupree who was the best returning player. This loss hurt the volleyball team worse than basketball because they also lost to graduation two other front row players Brittany Carter who is playing in college, and 6' Megan Seiber who could have played in college. The volleyball was much younger than the basketball team, and they made their 9th straight trip to state, and made their 7th final four in 9 years.

The difference is coaching. Anderson County IS loaded with athletes. There is no way AC should be winless at this point in the season. To be fair I don't live there anymore, but my daughter goes to college in TN, and I visit and have friends and family there.

Don't attck the girls on the basketball team, because they ARE talented. They will win games.

I am done with this thread.

Good luck girls, I believe in you!

After looking back over this thread I can't say that I have seen one attack on the girls. It is amazing how the Maverick Volleyball Mafia carries such a chip on their shoulders. No wonder they have such a bad rap across the state.

I hope the kids at AC are successful before they graduate -- they deserve it. However, it's not gonna happen this year.

  6. How can they not win 20 games? They play in the weakest district and region in east tenn? They are loaded with quick athletes. Speed is going to win out over size.

Too be fair I live out of state now, and only know the girls by what they have done before. I think they will have a great year, and stand by my 20 win prediction.

20 just gets farther and farther away

  7. How can they not win 20 games? They play in the weakest district and region in east tenn? They are loaded with quick athletes. Speed is going to win out over size.

Too be fair I live out of state now, and only know the girls by what they have done before. I think they will have a great year, and stand by my 20 win prediction.

You have to be joking or trying to stir something up. They are a good group of girls but if you stop Oakes who scores any points? They scored 43 last night at CAK and Oakes had 25 that means the rest of them scored 18. Last time I checked 18 points wouldn't win a middle school game. I wish them luck but I truly believe it will be a long season.

  8. Anderson County is loaded with talent this year, and should win the region. They play in a weak district, and no one will push them until the regional finals. Yes, losing the Dupree girls hurts, but look at volleyball. The volleyball team lost the Duprees and graduated three other starters losing 5 of their top 6 players. They finished 3rd in the STATE. AC will be fine. Expect another 20 plus win season, and a trip to the buro! AC is L-O-A-D-E-D, and come Christmas will be about 10-2! At AC we have a motto. "We don't rebuild, we reload!"

Is this a joke or are you for real bratman? You actually believe that AC will won't be pushed until the region finals. If Ellis wins 10 games then my hat is off to the man and he should be named coach of the year.

  9. AC has never really had a feeder program before. One of the middle schools has had a team, but no real coaches. One year they let a high school student who had a sister on the team be the coach.

This year, however, Norris Middle School has two great coaches Pam Pittman and Karen Couples. Pam played at Miss St and is a great coach, and Karen was Ohio Valley Conference MVP and a former AC player!

They are putting together the best middle school team that AC has ever had. They are loaded with young athletes, and are encouraging the young girls to become active in club.

HUH? This makes absolutely no sense!

  10. Well, I already got my tickets to the Boro, so I still Mavs to state. The Mavs have tradition & history when it comes to the state. Look for another region champioship.

Tradition and History? What exactly are you talking about? Maverick Volleyball!

Tradition and History died with the loss of Joe Carson. Like him or hate him you have to respect the man, he wins!

The old Lake City and Norris High Schools have more tradition than AC possibly ever will.

  11. Steve Sparrow,

Please, just because you couldn't get your way at AC doesn't mean that everybody should take their ball and go home. My husband and I loved our time in Norris, and thought that AC and the coaches were great! I don't know Faith other than I saw her play Volleyball this season and she looked like she was having a blast!

Steve, quit trying to live through your kids. AC is a great school. The only problem was they wouldn't let you get your way and you got mad. Leave it alone.

Who is Steve and why do you keep calling me that? I have no affiliation with Steve nor have I ever professed to be Steve. But I did have a friend once who was named Steven but he never liked to be called Steve. I wonder what ever happened to him? Like I have said many times before, there is only one Jack Sparrow. Get your facts straight before you try to insult someone, because the insult just falls on deaf ears.

  12. Indeed. And Goodpasture 2003. Nobody saw either of those teams coming.

And don't be so negative all the time, Jack.

Sorry TGLJ. I don't mean to be negative, it's just that I am a realist. I just know that there is a glass, I don't care whether it's half empty or half full -- that's something others must decide for themselves.

  13. Are Ghost and Hopi "friend's" or are they one in the same??

There's only one JACK SPARROW and I have not spoken on this issue yet! The feelings in that part of the county run strong both ways enough so it could have effected the District voting. She is a difference maker and her loss to KCHS is the reason AC won't get the gold volleyball.

  14. First let me say what an experience Johnson Co. was, the fans were unbelievable. I could not believe the fan support you showed your team and what a team it was. I personally didn't expect the level of play your girls showed. They were tough. The four seniors were great with really strong support from the underclassman.

I want to thank you all for the great hospitality you showed our girls.

“AC” a team on a mission and now that they are at the big dance who knows what can happen. Congratulations on the major win last night and good luck in the State.

Young and determined a tough combination. Play hard and compete and good things can happen.

    GOOD LUCK

    :thumb:

Second in the district and second in the region doesn't get you the gold volleyball.

  15. I agree pop's she is a very nice player, jumps well, hits hard.

But as far as the district or even state goes (which this topic is not about "Senior Class Stars") that will play it's self out.

    825755544

Touchy eh? The topic is "Senior Class Stars" which this girl is without a doubt. She could help tip the balance of power in the district and create a much more difficult route to the state which heightens her "Senior Star Status". So it seems relevant to me.

**Please take notice I revised my earlier post**

  16. The girl from Anderson County that now plays at Catholic is making a HUGE impact. (Revised Post for Hopi) Seeing that she is having such an incredible impact at Catholic in her senior year, the question is not can AC challenge for a state title but can AC challenge for a district title having to face such a strong "Senior Class Star".

    ;)

  17. ...and you never see Hopi and Clark Kent at the same time. Get a life EFG18!  Anyone who has enough time to catalog other posters remarks, or even cares enough to look them up needs a job.

Isn't that the pot calling the kettle black, Mr. 947 Posts? B)

  18. I've seen some of the stuff here about the younger players at AC, and let me say this. I believe this is a time to talk about the team that's on the floor now. Obviously, on any team who plays or doesn't play is discussed in the stands and over dinner tables throughout that community, and that's fine, it's even fun. Bottom line though is it's a coaches decision, and it has to be respected. Do you have to agree with it, no. Do you have to respect it, yes.

AC is 4-0. Enough said. Coach Mike Ellis should be commended, not second guessed. I believe AC has the makings of a power program for years to come at this point with alot of talent in the under classes, plus they are winning now. How do you pick at that? thumb

    825466130

Looking objectively at the talent, since I don't have a maverick in the fight as some do, I wouldn't use the term power program just yet. The four teams they have beaten on this young season have been perennial doormats for the last few years. William Blount is the closest to a winning team of the three and their saving grace is Angela P. The two girls from AC that you mentioned have barely scored 20 points together in a game much less by themselves. Without Rodd, who by the way scored 25% of the points at Knox Halls, they don't contend for anything. It's too early to judge anything. When the grind of the season starts and they continue to win we can start to mention winning seasons. When the AC starts traveling consistently to Sectionals and winning Districts we'll talk power program. thumb

    Have a nice day!

The AC program has been in turmoil for years, since the departure of a truly outstanding coach, Coach Carson. The program has lacked leadership and direction. People are very sensitive when it comes to discussing anything to do with Lady Mav basketball. Hopefully, everthing is on the mend and winning basketball games can move back to the forefront.
