The coacht rabble would be obliged if a certain gray haired old wise wrestler, whose current main passion seems to be selling popcorn, with ties to Baylor and Bradley would mediate for a series of matches between the guys still wearing the red 1860's garb and the guys with the bear paws marking their territory.
He is pretty good at the popcorn popper - and you're right about the ties to Baylor and Bradley County - but his allegiance, of course, is to Cleveland. But, I know he would be thrilled to watch a match between the red team and the black team as we all would.

Wow! This is an interesting thread. Girls, let's settle down. This is a prime example of real world - life is not fair and we don't always get what we want. Also, we all see things differently.
Let's give the reporters some credit. They are covering events that their bosses tell them to cover. I also think that the coverage is less this year than prior years, but I do think when a match is covered, it is a job well done.

As far as the Baylor parents who work this tournament - it is to support the UTC wrestling program. Anyone is welcome to volunteer for the glorious task of running a concession stand if they would like to support the college program.

This would be a very strong dual lineup but would they use the same for the state tournament. I have it on good authority that Manson certified to be able to go 130 and wasn't too far off already.... is there any chance that he would cut to 130 because he does need to keep things like senior nationals in mind?
I BELIEVE WADDELL WILL BE 152, ALSO COLTON POPP,FRITZ DOSTER,AND WES STROUD, DEVIN ARP HAVE VERY GOOD SHOT AT STARTING

It won't happen anytime soon, but it sure would be a good fundraiser for the hurricane victims.
RMC--- Thank goodness for your boys from the hill, they come in and give these private schools the matches they need. If not for Collins Hill, Soddy-daisy,and Cleveland there would be no Public schools to beat the Privates. It does appear that wrestling this type of schedule benefits the Hill by having them ready for state.

Shane Reveiz 189 Farragut Region 2 Champion and State quarterfinalist as first year wrestler should be a factor
Frankie Morgan Union County 171 finished 5th in State last year and if he moves up to 189 will also be in the hunt.
Derick Walker from Baylor will be back. He finished 2nd in D-2 last year
-
who will be at the top this year?
I would pick SPAIN in D-1, Waddell in D-2 @ 152

The Soddy Daisy Invitational Teams as of now are:

I am shocked to have just read that ND will not be wrestling the Red and Blue.
What's going on with the Fish Eaters? Since going to D1 this is the perfect time to wrestle them.Who else can get them ready for the Bradleys,Franklins and all the other tough public schools with out losing a seeding place? I know coach Mullin and his crew would not run from these 2, so what happened? I remember last years match with McCallie coming down to the wire. THere is an old saying and it goes something like this " It is better to wrestle the big fish and improve on them win or lose, than to wrestle the guppies and feel like a big fish. Look at the big picture guys. ND I hope you change your mind and put them back on the schedule before this turns into what happened with you know who and those preppie boys
If i'm right , can you give me an Amen.
PS I thought you guys had a pretty good team this year anyway
maybe ND coaches believe adding wins to the schedule is more important than quality opponents. I hear Silverdale Accademy has started a team and is looking for matches.

Slidewide.. I'm not sure what weight Tyler will be going. But I would think he would be going up too. I need to start reading stuff more throughly before I post something Sorry about that
I cant think of anyone in the state in d-1 that would be favored over Cregan. He never muscled anyone at the lower weights and I doubt if he will start now.

I believe Baylor fans are loud, as are the Bradley fans. The large fan groups are not necessarily bad, but the rest of the schools are out-numbered - that is what makes these schools' programs strong. It is support.

Re: Bogitsh's opponent in the '73 semis.
BKPres, Good memory! Yes. The opponent wrestled for Hixson. Now what is his name?
KKW: Sorry, the poor wording of my encouragement of your guess sent your next guess in a logical but mistaken direction. Rather than father/son, think sibling.
marvin walden.

Coach Newman was actually my coach in high school and I owe him an awful lot!!! He actually stepped down from the head coaching job after my sophmore year in high school, which was around 1994-95...somewhere in there.
What a great guy! You don't see many guys as firey as he was!
I am 99% sure that Mike Newman asst coach at Mccallies evil blue empire is coach Newmans son. Mike is a great coach too.

I think what everybody may have failed to read is that the 125lber has a hurt acl and only went to be apart of the team and hoping there might be enough improvement to wrestle and there wasn't and it wasn't worth risking a knee over. Young wrestled at 130 which left McCallie with a hole or a JV wrestler. I think we all can agree that Manson wrestling a jv wrestler would yeild a pin. The odds of anything different are slim and none.
meyers wrestled all year at 125 and I believe he was well enough to wrestle 3 days later at soddy.

Abbott - This is hitting you a bit close to home based on your response! You may be surprised by the number of officials that do come on this website.
After further discussions, this is the same official who busted Scooter Houston 2 years in a row. I agree that Scooter had an anger management issue, but from a wrestling perspective - he was a great athlete. We have MANY wrestlers that have anger issues!
How many athletes got cheated during this year's tournament by this official? I watched many matches this weekend, and the majority of the matches I watched this man officiate had problems. Maybe it is time for this one to retire!
I have been following wrestling for 30 years both H.S. and College I saw the Scooter match as well as this years tourney. I am not an official or a coach, just a fan, However if I were coaching this official you are referring to would be my 1st choice. they all make some mistakes but he is Knowledgable and conscistent and in my opinion Usually makes the right call. The officials to do the finals are voted on by the coaches at the NCAA an I believe he has been voted in aprox 15 times by the most knowlegable wrestling minds in the USA!

Turner from faragutt is finalist at 52. he did beat Bornman. Bailey from bradley is finalist at 215

I recently had the pleasure of watching some tape of some of the best kids fro the 70's. The techniques have advanced a great deal since then and now instead of there being only 4 0r 5 coaches in the state with advanced techniques there are many. this makes the competition more balanced and todays teams are I believe far better than any before them.

I know how much time and dedication it takes to compete at Spencers level. To have a 4.2 at Mccallie as well is what makes him so special. Congratulations!
-
I think Reed is to be commended for his decision to not wrestle. He gave it a great effort - but his weight was a problem. He has been sick - I'm sure because of his weight. He is a great wrestler and I know he would have done well.

Can someone out there clear something up for me?
According to the information and the new entry (Johnson) at 103, this looks like the same scenario as the 119 bracket.
Johnson is in the same place as Young.
Hoang is in the same place as Simpson.
Adamson is in the same place as Giesmar.
Johnson beat Adamson and must be seeded ahead of him. But Johnson has not wrestled Hoang and according to the TSSAA you can not be seeded ahead of a medal winner you have not wrestled.
Johnson has not wrestled Hoang and therefore Hoang should go to #1 seed, Johnson #2 and Adamson #3.
Looks like to me they need to change the 103 bracket or change the 119 bracket.
The brackets now show Adamson as the #1 seed haung as the 2nd and Johnson as the 3rd. Johnson could not pass Haung because the did not wrestle.

FYI - the concession stands are run by volunteers during this tournament and UTC Wrestling does benefit from these sales. But to verify, UTC did not make the decision to not allow food in the arena, TSSAA made that decision. Also, UTC Food Service run all concession for the university. They have the vendors to buy the food and they set the prices that are charged for the food. We do ask and do have fruit, donuts and muffins for the wrestlers. We also asked for other special items this year because we were informed that no food was being allowed. We cannot go in and set our own menu. It is limited and the best that we have been able to negotiate.
