  1. If you are broadcasting over the internet, or know a station that is, list the link to the broadcast in this thread along with the team you will be covering and the game times.

is the station from southern middle tn still in business? they broadcast games from memphis last year... forgot their name

  2. Has anyone been told if they are on the TBCA Team yet?

for worth showcase, the teams will be named shortly

for tbca all region and all state

coaches are sending in nominations as I type - after their team is eliminated - deadline is May 31 for nominations and from there it will take a couple of weeks to get everything sorted out and teams will be named

  3. Alabama's 6-A playoff bracket:

    http://www.ahsaasports.com/baseball/Playof...6/class6a06.asp

First round is one game, after that rest of bracket is best 2 out of 3

here are some nuts and bolts

throwing can begin on Jan 9 - balls and gloves only

    first practice - Jan 20

    First game - Feb 20

Games are limited to 20 dates (DH everyday = 40 games, if no tourney played) most don't do this however. looking at hoover hs website they had roughly 37 games scheduled before playoffs including tournaments

Tournaments - 2 not counted in playing dates

    NO preseason scrimmages

they don't have districts - they have area's, which is the equivalent of our regions

there are from 5 to 8 schools in each area - they have 6 classes in spring sports as well. we don't so that is why they have a much different set up. they take the top 2 teams from each area(region) into the playoffs which is 32 teams total- first round game as limbaugh said is single elim gets you to 16 (teams quartfinals) and from these 16 teams they play best 2 of 3 start April 28-29, May5-6, May 12,13 and finals are this weekend May 18-19

i'm not sure how the playoff teams are determined yet - will post when i find out

  4. Charlie is a class act and he "prepares" his players to play. I don't think you would ever hear him blaming his teams loss on "their lack of hitting" unless he first took responsibility. Would love to hear a coach be honest for once and admit just maybe they were the real reason :D their team lost.

A teams hitting reflects the coach's preparation. It's called

"batting practice" and you don't need a fancy batting cage to do it. By the way it was not WB's ace that shut Maryville out and held them to 2 hits. Charlie deserves a lot of praise for what he has done. Some coaches have it and some don"t B)

yeah that may be true, but most of the time it's because of a lack of talent on the player's part -

  5. OK, here is another plan from me, actually two and there is a little control statewide in this one...

    version 1

you have an 8 week reg season in which you can play a 28 game schedule with a cap maximum of 32 games period. including up to 3 tournaments valued at 3 games each.

district tourney - all teams participate; if your district has more than 4 teams the first round is single elimination (play in if you will) no guaranteed byes for reg. season winners; this sets all districts up for a 4 team double elimination tournament the rest of the way Play in game is on Tuesday and the 4 team double starts on Thursday and ends on Saturday(weather permitting)

regional tourney - top two teams from two districts ( 9 and 10, etc) play a 4 team double elimination tourney. thur, fri, sat

sectional tourney - top two teams from 2 regions (5 and 6, etc) play a 4 team double elim same as above

state tourney - final four all sectional winners play a 4 team double elimination tourney

    version 2

9 week season - max 32 games as above

district tourney - same as above

region tourney - take 4 districts ( 9,10,11,12) top 2 teams play in a single elim first round, double elim 4 team tourney the rest of the way. combining the region and sectional tourney's essentially

state tourney - top two teams from each region play in a single elim first round, double elim 4 team state tourney

  6. cc, Vultor is right, so you need to work on both his arms so he can switch during a game if one arm get tired. That way he will stay fresh and he should be able to last twice as long. Using both arms will also help him in casting while bass fishing when he is in some of those tight spots. :thumb:

i was just about to say that casting side arm with a 5 lb sinker and bobber when fishing for brim and blue gill should help him with his motion.... make sure that he casts it as far as it will go. need at least 300 ft. of line... 12 lb test will work fine.

he needs to fish everyday he's not playing. if he plays everyday, send him out fishin' after the games at least every other day

and i agree on the change - drag the knuckles, much more effective and if your smart could lead to an endorsement from nu-skin or a bandage company

  7. Yes, you can get 4 Ks (or more) in an inning (PB on strike 3) and you get credit for 1.1 innings pitched. So if you had 4 Ks every inning for 7 innings you would have 28Ks and get credit for 9.1 innings pitched, even though you actually only pitched 7 innings. But I'd be finding me a new catcher if that happened.

Jeez Captain Obvious, you think? A lefty who throws in the 90s? Surely not.

no you don't get credit for 1.1... no out was recorded on the strike out therefore it doesn't count as 1/3 of an inning... one other thing, in HS baseball there are only whole number innings, 1 pitch = 1 inning to the TSSAA. however, as far as stats are concerned you can keep them per out 1.1, 3.2, etc

  8. it takes a long time to go thru my lists of newspapers and link the stories each night.... while i am not going to comment on lack of coverage, i will say these papers have either continued to provide timely info or this year they have stepped up their game-

    Daily Papers

Kingsport Time News - terrific as usual

Johnson City Free Press - as well

Tri-Cities Sports - very good online resource

    Clarksville Leaf Chronicle

Maryville Daily Times - they have stepped up this year and improved greatly

Cookeville Herald Citizen - not as good as above, but you can count on stories almost every day

Shelbyville Times Gazette - have stepped up this year

most other daily newspapers will provide stories a couple of times a week... boo to the athens/mcminn online for requiring a subscription - their teams can't get statewide recognition when you can't get info on them

    the non daily's

the gannette mini-papers from dickson, robertson, and sumner do a pretty good job

kudos to the lewisburg paper for improving - still not timely- but at least you can find out what's going on

the roane county online paper - great, never had stories on these teams before - not exactly timely, but it's a great improvement over the past.

tullahoma sports - good site as well

i will say this about jackson - while no stories for the most part - the box scores are very informative

  9. I think you could say that Brentwoods early success could be because of new assistant coach and former player, Seth Williams. I heard that he could soon be climbing the ranks of coaching and could be offered a head coaching job somewhere in possibly the near future

yeah we'd hate to give coach waggoner any credit at all, he's ony coached there forever. good baseball guy, and does things the right way.

  10. i live 2 miles north of vscc and we just missed as well. however a sunday school couple of ours lives in the neighborhood that got hit, his house only had minor damage as the ones across the street were absolutely demolished. our power is out as well, so updates on tbca.org will begin when i get it back on... thank goodness the inlaws have power. very tough days ahead for many folks in and around sumner co. and tennessee

  11. We didn't do pre-season polls this year and probably won't ever do them again....

tHE FIRST Poll is put together using coaches predictions for their district and area as well as "history" of the teams, and the first two weeks of play. This year has been extremelly difficult because of the weather. Obviously, things will change, they always do, we won't really know until mid to late April who the best teams are and that doesn't even mean you will get out of the district tournament because anything can happen and usually does. Hopefully, these will give us a starting point based on what we know on paper. Throughout the season I will need information on teams and how they are doing. All help is appreciated, but I try to base these on what happens on the field, not opinions. Also, there are many good teams in the state that don't get ranked and if they prove it on the field they will find themselves in a position to get ranked. However, rankings mean nothing - what happens on the field means everything. Lastly, it is a very time consuming job and thankless as well as I put in a lot of time compiling the info on 4 divisions in a 72 hour period every two weeks - So before you start dogging me out this year, remember, that these polls are worth what i'm getting paid to do them - NOTHING, ABSOLUTELY NOTHING!! ]JD good luck to everyone this spring and keep me posted on your overall and district records.

  12. If you got one, better turn him into a 1b or OF. no LH catchers in the majors.

evidently you ain't seen this kid play... throw out all the rules here...... 1.6 pop, his awkward throw across his body style delivers the ball 6 -10" to the right of the bag and he can hit..... i once saw one of his lazers hit in the grass just behind the mound and trickle into no man's land. fast as lightning - ichiro can't keep up with this kid.... 3.9 i think, naa, that's his gpa. maybe it was 3.4.... anyway 3.4, 3.9 to first aint bad either way... E5 has seen him run- the fastest i seen him run was when he robbed the minute mart

  13. Is this the toughest district in the midstate?

while 9aaa is tough, it'd be hard to deny both 7aaa an 8aaa a place in that hunt.

if you looked at the state titles - probably 7aaa would be the winner - all three of these are very tough and on a year in and year out basis there probably isn't much difference.

  14. I FIND MYSELF CRYING THAT MS. KEEBLER IS LEAVING... SHE IS A TALL, COOL DRINK OF WATER. AS FOR MRS. MARTIN, I AM STILL REELING ABOUT HER OBVIOUS SIDESTEP OF MY QUESTION THE OTHER NIGHT. OH WELL, THERE IS NO CRYING IN BASEBALL.

I DO THINK WE HAVE SOME RINGERS WHOHAVE RUN THIS GAUNTLET BEFORE. HOWEVER, THERE ARE FACETS OF THE GAME THAT OUR GUYS ARE NOT WELL-SCHOOLED IN - PREPARATION, ADJUSTMENTS, DUGOUT DEMEANOR, COMRADERIE. BUT, THE MAKINGS OF A SOLID SQUAD ARE THERE.

i would suggest a heavy dose of "display" of those qualities as well as get with a few of your leaders either together or seperately and let them know what you want and then when game time is on.... when you need some of this displayed, have a que that you send to them and when they demonstrate these things, maybe the young guys will catch on to what you want.... those things are hard to get an entire squad to do, if you can get 75% on board, you'll be in great shape.

remember, kids play this game for many reasons - we probably really loved the game and just wanted to play every chance we could get.... some play because their parents (dad) wants them to, some because they love it, some may play just to get out of doing something else, and their are a miriad of other reasons why..... reasons we as coaches, players, may not understand..... so it is important that you get a core of 5 or 6 guys (guys that play) to be your spokesmen.... then you have a chance. Of my 15 years, I had this about 7 or 8 times...... sometimes you just can't get to the kids.......

  15. cc, actually we are now teaching the 100 pounders to use the small muscles in their arms and wrists to use a minus 3 to hit ground balls to the secondbaseman...he may miss one and if he ever gets up with a man on third with less than two we've got our man. My research has also found all kinds of photos of players from little league to the majors swinging level or down on the baseball. I admit I am wrong, those coaches that teach down or level have overcome the laws of physics...I am STUPID as was NEWTON...and WOODY. Don't make me start emailing all of my pictures...the first team to commit to rotational hitting in 7-AAA will no longer have to rely on all pitching and defense. Video your hitters, I will buy the pizza and we can see how many swing down or level. I bet an autographed imprint of Lou's hushpuppy I am right.

REDSMAN, I have moved in a new big house big teaching both lefthanded hindcatchers and shortstopsmen. The key is find the pair of pants that have the sauce from the district tournament at Warren County and have them work out in them....they are magic.

JDwhatever, how hard is to turn a righthanded mitt inside out and use it? We also have moved our second base about 4 foot to the left and have thrown out a lot more runners...bad thing is we are getting throwed out more and not getting near as many doubles....go figure.

it's tough to get those 100 pounders up with less than 2 and a runner on 3rd.... i've got some pictures of guys swingin up, down and sideways....... heck one year we hit two balls in the grass behind the bases!!!!!!!! i used one of them rh mitts turned inside out, nice pocket, good and stiff, can't hardly feel a 85 mph fastball. try extending your bases just one extra base length. nobody can tell and when you go on the road, every throw seems a little shorter.... now in all seriesness, i got some 40-67 pounders gettin ready to hit that bright yeller ball around and u don't even need a glove to snag it.

  16. i would pay money to see a kid under 120 hit it over 350 ft.. i'll believe it if i see it, if its true it will be on sportscenter or somethin thats crazy

best lh pop time was under 2, but the kid quit cause they couldn't find him a mitt.

i saw a kid that E5 work with bout a buck fifteen hit one at least 340, it's all in the torque, the action figure style is catchin' on all over the world

redsman, how do you get the hook out when it's in like this?
