  1. Not great to be honest. The county can't see the big picture. CU wants to rent and renovate, but wants control over the facility. CU is willing to allow junior pro soccer, football, junior high football, etc., to play there basically as a community service. The county sees no advantage to renting to CU. But they have no alternate plan once LHS vacates. If the existing LHS building is converted to a county junior high, what jr. high coaching staff could keep that facility up?

  2. The guy from Kentucky has Lebanon High ties, he played at LHS before Medley got there and has been a winning HC in a Kentucky 6A program for the past 7 years. Retirement issues might keep him from getting involved more fully. Lawrence the OL coach and three other assistants as running the weight room. Of course, they've missed a full week with the snow. They're saying they will keep the job posted until it is filled.

  3. If a deal can't be reached with the Wilson County school system over a lease / purchase of Lebanon High's (existing) Nokes-Lasater Field, CU is prepared to renovate / rebuild on campus with the new sprint turf. The LHS facility seats about 5,000, has two press boxes, metal bleachers on concrete. CU proposed to install turf, gut the restrooms and concession stands. With the new lights, they could play a Thursday night home game every now and then to attract a new crowd. If not, the school is prepared to do something dramatic on campus. I'd say one more year using Kirk Field as is, then a change for the 2012 season.

  4. Pulled from a Wilson Post online story -- "Lebanon went a combined 78-102 under Dillard, Marshall and Brown over the last 17 seasons, 24 games under .500 -- a .433 winning percentage. None of the three coaches during that time frame had any head coaching experience prior to taking on the Lebanon job."

Just saying they should HEAVILY consider someone with head coaching experience. After three longtime assistants, Wilson County might look at going in another direction.

  5. Effective fall of 2011, Wilson County Schools will allow athletes to work out during the day (in-season) in advanced PE classes. BIG UPGRADE toward a level playing field with Sumner and Rutherford systems. No more 6 a.m. sessions in the weight room. Should make the LHS FB job more attractive with new school on the way.

  6. The last three head coaches were all very good people -- Bobby Brown, Ron Marshall and Bob Dillard. None of the three had any head coaching experience when they were hired. The 6A level is pretty tough for on-the-job training. I wish they'd look for someone with head coaching experience.

  7. I was told that only 10 - 15 percent of the state's home-schooled kids will will even qualify to try out for existing teams. These kids must be in independent home school programs -- not affiliated with church-sponsored umbrella groups. The independent home schoolers have registered with local school districts so that progress can be monitored. The church-related home-schoolers don't register with local districts and can't be monitored for actual academic progress.

  8. Lebanon missed a 22-yd. FG attempt with :06 seconds to play in a 14-13 loss at Wilson Central. Lebanon had two costly fumbles, Central just one turnover. Lebanon had twice as many yards and first downs as WC, but the only number that matters is the final score. Brad Dedman's first win as a head coach.

  9. Lebanon's Kick Off Classic was halted due to lightening with LHS leading Clarksville NW 7-0. The teams had only two possessions each before the lightening. LHS freshmen and the varsity JV played two quarters to start things off.

Watertown and Wilson Central host jamborees tonight. Lots of junior high / junior pro action in the afternoon followed by varsity play in the evening. Watertown plays Cannon County at 7 p.m. At Central, MJ plays LaVergne at 7:30 followed by Wilson Central vs. DCA.
