I couldn't watch  the game but seen that mcminn central upset  brainerd

McMinn Central led 26-14 late and held on for a 26-22 win. This means if Loudon wins, Loudon is champion, Brainerd is second, and Red Bank is third. If Red Bank wins, Red Bank is champion, Loudon is second, and Brainerd is third.

I saw Mcminn Central over the Christmas break.... definitely didn't expect that team to be hosting a sub-state game....

I agree with you there. They played perhaps their two best games of the year against Signal Mountain in the region semifinals and Meigs in the region championship.

Dekalb County probably has taken the toughest route to this sectional.  Wins over 2 of top 5 AA teams (IMO) to make it to the finals of the Region.  They may be a year away from being great but this is still a very tough team.  Ferrel is amazing.  I haven't seen McMinn Central play but to be Meigs they must be good.

They split with Meigs in their four games this season. Meigs melted down in the first meeting back in December turning the ball over 20 times in the second half and blowing a 15 point lead to lose by 1 at Central. Central melted down in the second half of a what was a close game at the half at Meigs in their second regular season meeting turning it over multiple times and losing by 20 in Decatur. In the district championship, Meigs led 14-3 after the first quarter. Central tied it at 24 at the half. They led 36-31 with around 3 minutes left in the game when Meigs closed out the game on a 12-2 run to win 43-38. In the region championship, Central scored the first 9 points of the game, but Meigs rallied to cut it to a 14-8 Central lead after the first quarter. Central led 29-14 at the midway point of the second quarter and settled for a 33-22 halftime lead. The lead was still 9 at 44-35 through three quarters, but Meigs dominated the fourth quarter and took their first lead at 50-48 (15-4 run to start the fourth quarter). Central had to really rally to force overtime. Freshman Kellan Baker scored 4 of Central's 6 points in overtime to help them win the game.

Like someone said earlier in the thread, it's all about matchups and the ability or knowledge of how to exploit any mismatches at this point in the season.

How good does the Coach @ McMinn Central scout opposing teams or does he just rely on what his team does?

He's more than likely already gotten video of Dekalb, but he's going to play man-to-man regardless. He'll use the video to see what defense Dekalb plays and to determine whether he needs to double down on the post, which perimeter players are outside threats, etc.

  5. I'm the play by play announcer on 99.5FM WYGO in McMinn County. Multiple attempts to obtain a Howard roster have failed. I've gotten no response from the school AD, and Chattanooga sportswriters don't have one on file. Do any of you have an accurate roster?

  6. Region 3AA is having the same issue due to Hamilton County school board's unwillingness to play when their schools are closed. The district 5AA teams have been trying to accommodate earlier game times to beat the weather, but district 6AA teams weren't allowed to play by their school board. Girls quarterfinals have been played, but boys quarterfinals last night were postponed, and Hamilton County postponed today's rescheduled boys quarterfinals as well as girls semifinals.

District 5AA's schools were closed practically all last week, and they completed an entire district tournament by being flexible. Hamilton County hasn't yet decided to be cooperative.

  7. Girls quit the team EVERY year.  There have been sophomores, juniors, and seniors quit every year that I've been associated with the program (7 years.) Playing high school basketball at a high level requires a huge commitment of time and energy. Some girls burn out before their eligibility runs out. I'll not address individual reasons for quitting, but most of the time it has nothing to do with the head coach. And more than half the time, the player who quit regrets it soon after.

  8. Chargerettes have 1 Gold and 3 Silvers since the mid-90's. 2 silvers and the gold have come within the last 10 years. On at least two occasions, they played in a 1st round game that pitted the #1 v #2 ranked team.

With that said, the year we won the gold we played in a holiday tournament at Cannon County, and another one at Macon County.

  9. Wow, nice stat...could you spell this out? year / opponent / score?

I'm sorry. I posted that wrong. They've beaten at least one team in the sectional/substate from that region 11 out of 14 seasons. Most years it was the runnerup from that region. Brain fart on my part. I only got a couple of hours after returning from the 'boro, and then getting up for church.

  10. Morgan is a good coach no doubt but put Barney in that CREAM PUFF district and region for 20+ years and he would have the same results! half the battle is to get to the boro and then anything can happen.

They beat the vaunted region 4 champion 11 out of the last 14 seasons. So the cream puff schedule must prepare them pretty well.
