  1. I asked the question to the sports editor of the news examiner how he could justify the teams..... Answer, to quote Cecil Joyce " The teams are not made up of the best players in the county.... They are made up from the best players from each team and each team gets representation." Hendersonville and JPII would take up all of first team and second team with the exceptions of Austin White and Kuhn. It is still ridiculous that Grant Wood did not make a team when he should have been first team.... Ryan Maynard could have been a candidate for defensive player of the year and only made second team. With TJ being player of the year (rightfully so) Chris Mann should have and is Defensive Player of the Year. Everyone, you must take these teams with a grain of salt.

  2. Popefan do not start this crap... Bearden has won multiple state champs and a national title. We cant even get out of our region.... It was a scrimmage with lots of kids playing....

  3. Was watching scrimmage - JPII V. McCaullie and saw #20 for McCaullie go down with what appears to be a severely broken ankle. If anyone has an update on this young man, it would be greatly appreciated as we are all very concerned about his condition. The injury shook up players on both sides. Keep this young man in your prayers as I suspect he has a long recovery ahead of him.

  4. Rigger... No excuses for the loss... Webb came ready to play and their offense was sharp.. Did JPII miss Courtney... Well he was the nose guard on D and the leading tackler going into the game... Webb controlled the line of scrimmage when JPII was on D. It sure didn't help the situation that he was gone. I sure would have rather had him but with the situation the way it was... we played the game and it was a great game

  5. Rumor Alert... Rumor Alert.... Rumor Alert !!!

Word on the street with no official confirmation is that officially, Courtney was allowed to withdraw from JPII before he was expelled. They gave him the option to withdraw or JPII would convene a disciplinary board and expell him. Now, the reason this is significant is that Courtney went to TSSAA and stated that he withdrew from JPII because Centennial offered a class that JPII did not offer that he really wanted and needed to take. TSSAA gave him a transfer exemption based on this fact... Courtney is eligible to wrestle for Centennial based on this hardship. Can someone confirm this story. If this is true, It confirms everything I have ever believed about the TSSAA. They work with and for whomever they wish to work for. Having Courtney wrestle this year is good for the state. I hope that this story is false and that transfer rules apply to Courtney as they would to any other run of the mill student. Please, someone who really knows what is going on either confirm this or get the facts out so everyone shuts up and allows Courtney to continue on with his life and athletic future.

Having said all of this... I know that Courtney is a great kid and I feel sorry that this happened to him, however, I believe the rules apply to him just like everyone else. State champion or not

  6. Rigger 101.... give me a break... D-1 Vs.D-2, obviously you have never seen Courtney wrestle. He is a man among boys and he wresles D-1 competition at every tournement he wrestles in. JPII used to take Courtney to showcase tournements in Kentucky and Florida and he destroys everyone. I will answer the question for you. Courtney will destroy all 215 in D-1 or D-2. This isn't about private v public this is about Courtney. By the way... best wrestling teams in the State are D-2 Father Ryan and Brentwood Academy

  7. Hey doubledrip, as crazy as it may sound, the previous statement does make sense. Webb did as they well pleased in the first half. They ran all over the knights defense on every play. They had long sustained drives that took lots of time off of the clock. I do not think they punted in the first half...maybe once. They had a commanding lead going into half. After halftime, Webb had one drive that amounted to a score. The Knights defense forced four second half punts. Then , of course, Blake Bealer took the ball to the house on a second or third play of a series. So, yeah, compared to the first half, JPII slowed them down considerably.

  8. Well Knightime--- I guess Coach Brothers doesn't know what he is doing either because he has kept Coach Cook around for five years. Seems like maybe you ought to take over since you are so educated in the ways of K-State and the 5-3. It sure is easy to sit in the stands and be the perfect coach isn't it. You take a guy who gets paid very little, (Coach Cook does it for the love of the game and the kids... definately not for financial reasons) and because you do not approve of his coaching style... he must go. Yeah, maybe he did praise my son, not because he was good...no... because my son tried very hard and that was all that Coach Cook asked of him, to have a little bit of heart.

  9. Great football game... By the time it was over, I felt like I had played the game. The Knights seniors, to a man, left it all on the field. What impressed me about the Webb team was the conditioning of their players. The majority played both offense and defense. I felt like they were starting to tire at the end, however, they gutted out that last JPII possession and stopped the Knights. Golden did put on a show. Number 1 from Webb put on quite the show as well. Not only did he play outstanding quarterback, handling the ball without error and making beautiful cuts against the flow of the defense, he made the biggest defensive paly of the night by stopping Golden on the two point conversion attempt. Great game and good luck to Webb on Saturday

  10. Regarding Coach Jason Cook.... Knight time--- I do not know if you have ever actually played for Coach Cook but I can tell you with 100% assurance that you are dead wrong about Coach Cook. My son is a former football player and wrestler. I can tell you that yes he does yell. He yells alot... But Jason Cook shows those kids more love and actually instructs them a heck of alot more than most High School coaches do. If you were to actually watch... he will yell at a kid then coach him up then either slap him on his helmut or butt with tremendous encouragement. Coach Cook is my favorite coach at JPII and I am sorry that people such as yourself have the wrong opinion of him. Pay attention to more than the initial yelling. Having said that.... Coach Cook is the D- coordinator... he may coach linemen as well but I do not think so. The JPII defense started eight seniors for most of the year and they were reaaly weak for seven of the eleven games. Time for a scheme change.

  11. Where are you ole dad... With your three touchdown victory prediction.... The only problem is that I totally agreed with your prediction... I am neither Ryan or MBA but have seen both teams several times... I really felt that Ryan would man handle MBA... Congrats Big Red... this is a huge season saving win

  12. How much fun is this.... Four pretty good teams vying for three spots.... I hate to make the following prediction , but I must....

    Father Ryan 2

    MBA 1

    BGA 3

    JPII 1

    BGA 3

    FRHS 0

    MBA 2

    JPII 0

Even though I believe skill wise JPII is probably the second best team... I think they are a little bit physically weak. I think BGA is the best team... MBA is the most determined and have several really great players. Father Ryan is the fourth most skilled team... They just refuse to let others push them around. They are very strong physically. This will be a great Final Four... Good Luck to all...

    PS

Saw Christian Brothers and MUS.... The Brothers will definately be difficult to beat. They are fast and skilled. Midfielders fly up and down the field and never get tired. MUS is very good, they can be beaten. Of course they can beat you as well... This is why we play the games... Anything can happen on any given night

  13. mr goo -- I think your observations of JPII are quite astute. You truly are a student of the game... No JPII is not nine goals better than USN. Yes, there was a foul in the box but did not impede a scoring opportunity and could have (not neccessarily should have) been ignored by the ref. 2d goal, I did not have a good angle and could not tell if off sides or not. The ref did seem quite confused about the call himself before calling a good goal. USN did quit after the second goal. The game was over at that point. The final five goals were scored by Freshmen and Sophmores that do not play often. Four of the goals were first time goals for players. Whoever stated that JPII may have found out how to finish... I hope so but doubt it.... The feeling is that they emptied the can in the USN game.

Goo -- You stated the complaints coming not only from parent back seat coaching but from the coaching staff themselves. Not enough mid field support... To a man... We are physically weak. Teams like Father Ryan and BGA tend to push us off the ball and run through our people. Our players are skilled, fast, technically, and fundamentally sound. We are just small and not very strong.

No... Goo... we do not think we will run through the Region and definately not run through the State. We hope to play well enough to maybe make State. It will be tough.

  14. Soysauce - If you are going to post -- then post the truth... The score was 3-2. Father Ryan used two JPII Senior players... JPII played for over half the game with freshmen that may or may not make varsity. Ryan scored 1 goal on the more experienced players and two goals on the freshman goalie and three freshman defensemen. Now , i am not crying poor mouth nor am I yelling what a great feat. It is what it is. A scrimmage that neither team had their best players, in a snow storm, at a camp, without coaches or strategy. It was a good scrimmage for both. Soysauce, if I were you, I would be on the basketball post screaming about the basketball victory Friday night. Now that is something you actually have to brag about. Ryan played a great game... Langhi and the little quarterback did a great job.

  15. Alright... enough- Father Ryan, JPII, and Lipscomb are in camp at Lipscomb U. this week. No coaches are involved. These so called scrimmages have been short sided scrimages with a few 11 v. 11 get togethers. Yes, in an 11 v. 11 these two schools tied. Yes both sides were trying like crazy... Both sides played multiple players in multiple positions. Lipscomb staff overseeing scrimmage. Other than tremendous effort because it is Ryan v. Pope there is very little one can obtain from this as far as the season goes. Both schools have multiple contributors in other sports at the moment. Lets keep it in perspective. It is a preseason team camp that is meant to get the guys in the right frame of mind to start working on Monday the 13th. By the way, it is TSSAA sanctioned as legal because the respective coaching staffs do not work their players.

  16. This is for the JPII boys and more importantly the fans. This includes myself, let's not talk alot of trash this year. We have not earned the right to talk smack. Yes, we think we are going to be very good, however, we think that every year and it has not worked out that way. Lets just work hard, play the games, see what happens. Regardless of what happens, we can talk smack to Father Ryan (and them right back at us) just because it is alot of fun.

  17. I hope that everyone thinks Hendersonville will be down without Kelley. They will not be down. I saw them without Kelley for much of the season last year and they did not miss a beat. Now, I will make this statement, it happens every year. Hendersonville will lose and tie about every scrimmage game and everyone will think they are down. Coach always plays scrimmages to see what he has and not neccessarily to win. They always start slow and build as the season goes. By State, they will be ready.

  18. I saw the Stewart County V. Hendersonville Christian game and came away impressed with both teams. Jake West is a really strong and solid player... Chris Goodwin can shoot with anyone in the State. I really enjoyed this ballgame. Was not impressed with the three referees. They had TSSAA patches but they really missed alot of calls both ways. The girls game was decided with one second left on a called foul on Stewart County after a Hendersonville Christian girl controled the ball on the floor and stood up with the ball. Ref did not call travelling. I don't know seemed strange to me.. To Stewart County's fans credit .. They did not riot.

  19. H'ville... Typical--Play the no respect card...Come on... The Tennessean has you rated number five in the midstate...That is pretty daggone good...The Tennessean, Star News, and the News Examiner have given you your props. You are having an outstanding season and everyone in the State knows it. Do not whine about respect... On another note... Have watched Chris Hewgley since he was eight years old.. You will find no better child on and off the court... He was totally dissed at Hawkins... Coach West deserves all the credit in the world for not judging Chris by his size but by his heart and ability... Coach West has a new fan in me and has my upmost respect for giving this young man the opportunity he desrves.
