  1. As the last fan was leaving and the lights being turned off from Jim Smitty Arena after the Bearettes one point sectional overtime loss, like others before him, head coach Jason Reuter was left reflecting on how painfully true was John Greenleaf Whittier when he said, “the saddest word or tongue or pen are these “it might have beenâ€. In perhaps his best coached game of the year, Reuter and his injured Bearettes battled a worthy and classy opponent in Lawrence County in a very well officiated game that felt more like a chess match than it did a basketball game. (Is there any way that this officiating crew can help train that Elvis bunch up at the Region 3 finals)

Having no days to prepare because of the weather and without a key starter, Reuter did a nice job changing up defenses and substitution patterns that created real problems for the methodical and well coached Wildcats and kept the game close. Yet, the harsh reality is that there are winners and losers and all but one team in basketball goes home to humble pie.

Perhaps of all the ifs, Reuters greatest if might be, “What if one of my starters and district MVP had not been on the receiving end of a life threatening career ending flagrant and malicious Taylor Vaden (according to the Chattanooga Times and Chattanoogan) cold cocked elbow at Cumberland County in the Region finals? Fortunately for other unsuspecting opponents, the Jets lagged and their season is now over after being down 46-5 in the first quarter. I know it does in the Region but does the mercy rule apply in sectionals too...two in a row if it does.

Reuter and these Bearettes have brought pride back to the girls program and its Seniors have left a shining example of what it means to represent something larger than yourself. And while its unfortnate that the injured Bearette missed out on a life opportunity, guilt will not be hers to bear.

The end is always painful but it is an elegant reminder of how great was the time and the relationships along the way. So good luck to the Wildcats in the State and thanks to this year’s Bearettes and coaches and most of all to its Seniors for your accomplishments, character and class. And while it may not feel so now, time will soon replace the present void and hurt with a great pride of having made a great tradition even better.

Taylor Vaden was this year's district player of the year in 6AAA. She has scored over 1000 points in her career as a Lady Jet. She is the Salutatorian for Cumberland County High School for 2012. She is a true christian athlete, a very hard worker, and one of the best kids that you could ever be around! There is absolutely no doubt that she would never intentionally injure anyone in a basketball contest. It was unfortunate that the injury occurred. Sometimes that happens in competitive sports.

Congrats on a great season to Bradley.

Congrats to the Lady Jets for a great season with their first year coaches.

The Lady Jets are not the only team that has been badly beaten by Riverdale this year. (Nationally Ranked #5 in the Powerade Fab 50 and #16 in the USA today Super 25) Of course most people on Coach T already know this.

  2. Yes Bradley lost in OT by 1 and we appreciate the Jets support of Region 3. LC played a clean and very well coached game and best of luck to them in the state tourny. A post card from LC to the Lady (????) Jets might be appropriate for having slugged out one of Bradley's better players. By the way....did anyone from Riverdale go to the hospital or any CC players teed up in the Jet's 70 (are you joking) point loss. Thats got to be a record..over 100 point loss in regional and sub state games.

Well congrats on losing in OT. I'm sure LC appreciates the well wishes.

They'll need it if they play Riverdale.

    Losing is losing........

    have a good summer.

  3. Its really sad that someone got hurt during an athletic contest. However, the girl from Cumberland county did something that is taught in every gym in the country. She faced up with the ball under her chin. Just so happened someone was a little too close.

Maybe if u heard some of the language that came from the mouths of your "classy" team u might not come on here downing others.

If the fans understood that this is basketball (contact sport) and not patty cakes u would just play on!

It was actually a good game until the coach and fans badgered the refs into calling the rest of the game their favor over a perfectly innocent play.

  4. We are going to play in the D2 Nationals in Kingsport, TN this year. If you qualify for D1 Nationals, you cannot play in D2 Nationals. It is very rare that an AAU National Tourney ends up 3 hours from your town and just happens to be in your age group.

Did Thunder play in a DII Substate?

I cant find them in any of the brackets. Is there another way to qualify?

  5. Jetfan,

We will be in Lenoir City at the Wendy's Elite Tourney April 25 - 27. We are also working on a double-header scrimmage with the Blue Angels at either SMHS or CCHS sometime in May.

Our other tourneys are further out of town.

    Thanks for asking.

Will Thunder be going to any SRT tourney's to try and qualify for Nationals?

  6. I need some education. Unless my geography is wrong, Team Pride is South Middle, not North Middle. How did they end up in North Middle?

I would guess that they probably drove.

  7. Great season Lady Panthers.

Work hard and get back to the boro next year!

Who knows what will happen after that. You just don't know where TSSAA will put you at in AAA. Could be playing Oak Ridge several times in 2009. Stone can be competitive there as well. Just keep working.

Lady Jets just need to work hard and build the program. They will bring it back up in the next couple of years. They have two coaches with a competitive spirit and good work ethic, it will come around.

There are plenty of athletes in Cumberland County to help both schools be competitive.

Everybody just needs to shut up and play! That is the only way!

  8. Ok well not for sure about single A but i'm gonna go with someone out of the Jackson County, Clarkrange District. Sorry for not knowing that district. AA I don't see anyone beating Upperman. Sorry teams from the West, but Middle TN is where the Women's basketball talent comes from. AAA is up for grabs. I will pick two. Cumberland County Lady Jets, and Wilson Central.

The Lady Jets will have a rough year. They don't have much floor experience this year.

  9. jetfan2, The biggest problems have come from hollow accusations of wrongdoing without any evidence that any have occurred. You have made two statements that suggest you believe that recruiting has happened. Do you know of specifics or are you someone that is looking for excuses because you don't like the way the cards fell? I really don't care how you feel, but those kinds of accusations sound like something an ingnorant little school kid would make. I'm pulling for both teams and wish them both well. Go Jets! Go Panthers!

I didn't say I wasn't pulling for both teams. I know alot of kids on both teams and wish them well. I think Stone has a chance to go to the Boro and I hope they do. I didn't make those statements just to get a rise out of you. I guess your gonna tell me that recruiting doesn't happen in High School Sports.

  10. okay now that the results are in........raiders are maybe average, but this weekend below avg. they need better coaching thats all there is to it. dont get me wrong this group of young ladies are as good as they come (individually) but this is a TEAM game and it showed this weekend that they are indeed average so keep beggin to disagree it'll get you no where..

    see ya

Better coaching? MAYBE? More coaching I would agree more with. It is easy to blame the coach, especially when you lose. This group of girls usually play against each other in big county rivalry situations. I think the coach is making a valiant effort to get a group of girls and parents to work together when they are used to playing and working against against one another. That is harder than you might imagine. This team did pretty well to only have about 5 or 6 practices and play in one tournament with average teams.

They do need a team tune up to be successful.

  11. I saw the tourney this past weekend in Lebanon. Shooting lacked, defense was good. They will need better rebounding and scoring to advance in the substate tourney. The Raiders Orange Team has a long row to hoe in the east Substate. It looks like they play the TN Xtreme in the second round of the tourney. If they win the first round game.

They are mountain girls though, maybe they know how to drive tractors.

I am a big Lady Jets fan. There are some future Lady Jets on this team. Best of luck and PLAY HARD OR DON'T PLAY.
