  4. Note: For players to be selected it is required for coaches to join the THSSCA organization (which is a $25 fee). This covers the entire school for the year (both boys and girls squads) After several attempts to reach the coaches in D1-A the above are the teams that have responded and are current members.

  13. The THSSCA (TN High School Soccer Coaches Association) is currently working hard to get as much data as we can to the TSSAA to help in making decisions for the fall season. Coaches, be sure to check your email for a survey sent to you by Coach Clapp. Please fill out ASAP so we can have as much data to send the TSSAA before the July 8th meeting. This is similar to what the football coaches did last week. Players and parents, we want your feedback on the same information we are sending the coaches. Please fill out the following survey: THSSCA Player and Parent survey for TSSAA The first question would depend on the Governor rescinding the decision for soccer starting on August 30, but classifying high school sports in the same category as college and professional (which would put the decision on the high schools instead of waiting for August 31). The second question would be if the Governor did NOT rescind the decision and we could not start until August 31. Please let me know if you all have any questions. I will update you all as we get final results.
  14. Well, it is official now. TSSAA cancels remaining events for the current school year. With the Governor’s announcement of school closure for the remainder of the school year, all remaining TSSAA events for 2019-20, including all spring sports and the postponed BlueCross Basketball Championships, are cancelled. This is an unprecedented time across our state and country, and we do not make this decision lightly. We thank all of the participants, their coaches, administrators, parents, and everyone else who has dedicated a tremendous amount of time, passion, and effort to high school athletics, especially these affected events. To our senior participants - we thank you for everything you have done for your schools and communities and wish you the very best in your bright futures. This is difficult, but the lessons you’ve learned and friendships you’ve made through high school activities will last your lifetime. We look forward to the resumption of high school athletics during the 2020-21 school year, and will continue work on those events at this time. The TSSAA thanks everyone involved for their patience and understanding throughout this process. Information will be given to member schools regarding summer athletic activities in regards to the sports calendar at a date in the near future.
  15. Governor just extended stay at home until April 30. He said he would address schools this Wednesday.
  16. 17 states are now "done with school" as of Friday.
  17. Talked to a good friend in the TN House of Representatives. I don't think we will have an official announcement of anything until the Governors next press conference on April 20th.
  18. Update from the News Sentinel. https://www.knoxnews.com/story/news/education/2020/04/09/tennessee-board-of-education-covid-19-high-school-requirements-graduation/2960639001/ From what I understand grades are now "frozen" and attendance "can be counted while schools are closed because of online learning, but recording unexcused absences or reporting students for truancy is not allowed." I'm sure you all can read between the lines here.
  19. So sorry to hear that. I know some counties have already called school for the year. I have not officially heard of any school "cancelling" their season, but I am sure there will be more and more that do. I know that club soccer has cancelled the region and national tournaments for this summer. Tennessee has yet to state what they are doing for the state cup, though.
  20. "On Wednesday, governors in Alabama and Georgia announced that, due to concerns regarding the COVID-19 pandemic, school systems would remain closed for the remainder of the semester, thus ending all spring sports for those states' main athletic associations" The count is up to 11 states that have cancelled sports. Indiana closed yesterday. "However, with concerns continuing to grow, spring sports seem less likely to be played and Childress added that now the TSSAA is even discussing an abbreviated football season, as well as other fall sports, should the spread of coronavirus remain a concern into the summer." Hope dims for prep sports in Tennessee to be played this spring due to coronavirus pandemic
  21. While the chances of school coming back are low, the TSSAA has at least kept the "window" open for the opportunity. They stated this week that the spring tournament would be pushed back 3 weeks. The proposed starting date would be April 24 with the state tournament being June 8 - June 12. The TSSAA is leaving it to the districts and regions to have their own method for getting teams out of "regular season" and into "post season". All of this would depend on time allowed once we get back.
  22. I have been asked to update information as we hear (from the TSSAA and other outlets). When I have more time tomorrow (Thursday), I will give the latest information that we have. Feel free to post questions and I will try to answer the best that I can.
  23. TN High School Coaches! We will be getting together on Thursday from 4:00-5:30 room CC 323. Hope to see some of you there!
