Isham (Jr) has played for the Diamond Dodgers since she was 9 or 10 (last year for the 18u Gold).

Not sure about their records but my daughter has caught for Fagg, Isham, and Brockman in travel ball and they are among the best in the Knoxville area.

  6. Why is this thread not closed. I have seen many times a thread is closed when coach bashing is almost only on a site. I am tired of reading about this subject.

I am with YOU! Time to Close it and start something positive.

  7. Everybody keeps asking..who is that girl in centerfield with the helmet that plays for giles county? Well, my name is Kristen Phillips and I am a senior at Giles County. I have been playing softball since I was old enough to walk and I have been playing travel ball since I was 9-10. I had a great high school career with softball since I was a freshman, starting in the outfield almost every game. In November 2004, I was on my way to school one morning and I had a really bad headache and started to have double vision, I called my mom and after going to the local emergency room, I was sent to Vanderbilt. After 3 long weeks at the hospital with my parents antsy to find out what was wrong with me, we finally got an answer. I had 3 blood clots in the back part of my brain and the neurologists and the hemotoligists told me that I would have to be put on blood thinner for 6 months. Of course, the first question I asked was, "do I get to play softball??". When the doctors told me no, I was absolutely DEVESTATED. Softball had been my life since I was a little girl. For a day or two, all I could do is cry. I wanted to play so bad. But, after I realized that things could have been soo much worse. I calmed down alot, and tried to figure out another way to still be involved with the team. My high school coaches, Donna Cobb and Shannon Fowler, were more than kind to me when all of this happened. They told me I could be the "student assistant coach". So I sat out my junior year but still attended every game and did everything I could to help out. After the 6 months came and went, I reported back to the hospital for my check up MRI. Well, I got some good news and some bad news, the doctors said that everything did look better, but the clots were still there. So they said another 6 months of blood thinner. Again, I was tore all to pieces, but I was determined to get better and be able to play my senior year. So after those six months rolled around, I went back to the doctor for another MRI. Again, I got good and bad news. It hadn't gotten worse but it was the same as it was 6 months before. So after a long talk with my neurologist about how important softball was to me, he considered letting me play with a helmet. He said he would have to consult with the board of neurology to final the decision. But 2 days later, they called and said that I could play as long as I wore a helmet. I was more than exstatic to get this news. My senior year and I was getting to play. I have worked very hard and am hopefully going to get some offers to play in college. As of right now I am a starter in center field and 1st on my team with a batting average of .397 and am looking to increase that as the season progresses. I just wanted to thank everybody that has been behind me supporting me throughout all of this. My teamates, my parents, my coaches, and my friends I want to say thank you. It has been a real life changing experience and I really appreciate everybodys support and prayers. THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!! XOXO!!!

Great story Hang in there and GOD Bless

  8. Rumor has it some of the current players have been harassed and threatened ever since fall.............. fact is, there is fault on both sides!

I noticed that no one has brought up money issues..........seems like that was a big deal at one time.......then it was rumored that a large sum of money was removed from the booster club account and held so that the present group of parents could not get it. Was this agreed on by all that helped to raise that money, or was it just another example of a few people deciding what was best for EVERYONE with out their knowledge or permission

You know it is really sad that this thread started with the question of what are your thoughts of Knoxville Softball? I guess this is what people are learning about softball in Knoxville.

As far as rumors? Why don't you pick the phone up and call, I am sure they would love to talk to you. And if you have any other ?'s call the Superintendant of Knox county schools they have all of the answers.

Just remember wrong is wrong and right is right that will never change and neither does GOD. I don't think GOD is pleased with this. Pray hard and GOD will take care of things.

Maybe read the thread with the girl with the helmet. That puts everything in perspective.

Good luck to all of the girls in Knoxville they deserve some Positive Recognition.

Woops almost forgot I meant to say Knoxville and surrounding area....Just for you VTEC

  9. People need to get their facts straight about stats and being "all district tournament" and "all district." Everybody remember that there are 2 sides to every story. It's not the dog that has the loudest bark that always has the worse bite. I wouldn't count Halls out just yet. I've seen them play and u never know they might surprise some teams.

Facts? I understand facts but what the heck are you talking about all district and all whatever....don't remember seeing that in the thread.

Facts? 2 sides to every story? Looks like that article above, that HHSYank listed, was very one sided.

  10. Good thing I have a great sense of humor! :thumb:

We are just trying to jolt you into reality because you are living in a fantasy world and again I know for a fact you are a parent of a freshman. Live and learn!

Well I do know who you are married to shadow01 :thumb:

Live and Learn.......Wasn't that General Custards last remarks

Yank .....Let us know if and when you ever play Gibbs again. I want to be there

for that one. I might even come to the Powell game that should be interesting to.

  11. Once again that is the Coach's decision. Maybe he is going for the element of suprise. Besides I would never question our coach's decision to not play the Gibbs tournament. They say Halls has played in it before so whats the big deal. With our leadership I still think Powell should watch out :thumb: I predict Halls 2 Powell 1.

    Just my opinion. :thumb:

Not to be mean but WHAT THE HECK ARE YOU SMOKIN!!!!!

    Gettim Shadow01!!!

  12. JMO Well I guess we will see what happens. Its Early in the season and there are some injuries but I do think they will give those top 3 teams a run for their money. Besides all of these girls have played against each other in summer ball or rec ball so most of these highschool teams are pretty much even steven with maybe a few exceptions.JMO ;)

Oh by the way not sure what you mean about the Gibbs tourney that is a coaches decision anyways.

EVEN STEVEN? Powell beat Oakridge by twenty points in their district.....something not even there....besides 5 to 2 is alot in the softball world....just my opinion

  13. Post Knoxville area scores for March.

  14. After viewing tonights contests @ Everret Park I can say that Gipps, is everything that has been wrote about them, Central in Knox will ride the Arm & BAT of K. Irwin, Maryville will be strong when it matters most {end of season} Greenback is weak, Halls is in trouble, Alcoa has some hitters to go with the GUN, W.B. will win some games, and Heritage has a lot of Talent. I watched alot of the Heritage vs. Halls game the first 6 hitters for H.H.S. where stout scoring all the runs with base hits and hits to move the runners. Gipps can and will win @ any level. Just my thoughts

    Gipps????

    Do you mean Gibbs?

    Can anyone give scores.....

I think I saw where Knox Central 3-0 over Maryville..

  15. I agree with you sportsgal. Coaches can't keep someone on the team just because they are a Senior. That bull. If this girl was a starter, then its obvious that she ran afoul of the coach or team rules. It's the coaches call and the parents should just accept it.

    sportsgal and kidnplay?'s

Do you have children? Are you a Highschool Coach?

If you have children are they any Good in their Sport?

Just trying to understand your comments......Life has a funny way of teaching

lessons......be careful what you say and do.....it will come back to you.....

  16. I know NewsNews situation and folks it's not about skill, playing time or even politics. It is about an adult dealing with children in a manner that is unacceptable at work, church or society in general. It is about control and power. A high school coach who insults and makes fun of his players in front of the team, parents and other teams has lost touch with what the game is about. I don't think for one second that anyone on this board would be happy with a coach who belittles a child because of weight, speed , mental or physical abilities in front the team , parents and anyone else in ear shot. Yes, leave the coaches alone let them coach,it's their team but any parent would be upset if their child is taken to task in front of the whole world and made to feel about an inch tall. And this is because "I" am the coach "I" have the power and control to do and say what "I" want ,so you and your kids deal with it or leave. I have been around high school ball and travel ball a long time (three daughters) I have never seen a situation like this. You folks will have to cut NewsNews some slack it hits very close to home for him. Sorry NN didn't mean to stick my nose in your business just got carried away.......

    Dang.......thanks VTEC......I guess I owe you a fishing trip.......

I have to admit our situation is different......but I guess when people generalize(sp) kids, parents and even coaches I feel like that isn't right...every

situation IS DIFFERENT......just wish it could be worked out without the CONTROL factor......If people could just do what Is RIGHT.....

Sorry if I have offended anyone.....and Yes I don't know about the details at Rhea.... I guess it just struck a nerve....

Communication is the Key and a Obligation.........Which includes Coaches,Parents, and Kids.....

  17. this should be a school matter, none of us know what the reasons for not making the team were. maybe they did not attend all required practice or may have broken team rules.

zuzu, I agree that it should be a school matter.....and maybe she, or the others did something wrong.....if so then the matter should be closed but why is it that we assume that it was the KID.....maybe it was the Coach....maybe it was just that the

Coach and the Parent couldn't get along....maybe the kid had nothing to do with it....

Why do we always assume that its the kids fault ....I will agree I have seen wrong from parents jumping the gun about their child but I have also seen Coaches jump the gun also about kids parents.....why do the kids have to pay for this.....Isn't that why we have Principals and Athletic Directors.......

  18. not in high school is it about the kids. its about the best players u can put on the field and then the politics come in to play.

So let me get this straight you say the best 9 maybe 10 girls should play..so your talking about playing time..hmmm..

I agree with that the best 9 to 11 girls should play....so that leaves about 7 girls left, depending on the roster....they

could have more but lets just say 7......If the coach is playing the best 10 or 11 girls

how does these situations come up.....2 parents usually can't make that much commotion.....and usually the other 7 girls left well maybe 2 are Varsity material.....

not sure what your trying to say......highschool sports is NOT ABOUT THE KIDS?

NO KIDS, NO SPORT, NO SPORT NO reason for Vendictive COACHES AND CRAZY

PARENTS....Last time I checked there were kids playing the game not ADULTS PLEASE EXPLAIN?

I think we Need a Union to Represent the KIDS.......They could all go on strike and then all of us adults would have to talk about something else....

  19. Big shock, a parent mad after tryouts! If the player were good enough to play in college (as the mother stated in the paper) then she would have made the team. I am glad the school board backed there coach.

Sorry Sortsgal.......making a statement of that sort

"(If the player were good enough to play in college (as the mother stated in the paper) then she would have made the team)"

    is not always true......

I know of 2 girls with scholarships that didn't make the team and will be playing

college ball come fall......One for a DI and the other not sure what Div

Also just for the record Not playing Highschool ball will not keep a child from playing

College Ball......I know 3 girls that play college ball without the help of their Highschool...

By the way I love Highschool ball just wish there wasn't so much politics.....and that

starts with the Coaches and Parents and the key to communication.

Remember its about the KIDS! and who usually gets hurt the most THE KIDS
