  1. Hey Roadrunner, VTEC was just kidding.....He is a Travel Ball coach and called pitches for years....he was just making fun of himself and others ...... and just for the Info he has played alot of A Ball.......... VTEC you get no respect at all.......We should have stayed fishermen.....
  2. Sorry VTEC couldn't resist......it was too funny.....
  3. I have to Agree on Coach Jones.......great person..... ...Dayna Carter @ Seymour.......Can't get any better......
  4. mcdonaldr115 Thanks for the reply ......my daughter gave your answer alot of thought......she apreciated your honesty....
  5. VTEC you should run for mayor......be careful not to be giving those pitchers any signals this year.... VTECs quote"Not all high school coaches are good nor are they bad. Same with travel ball coaches. The point is everyone should be working to help the kids become better citizens and players(pointed out by several other posters on this thread). Back to my original point ,it's a stretch to think this will happen......" AMEN BROTHER As far as the topic here....extra batting practice....that is it......what is the difference in taking your kid in the back yard and letting them pitch..or take a few extra swings... You know what MC-dad.....after such a bad experience at our HS....I may agree with you.....no highschool softball....You said they Build character????? A former player which now is a collegiate coach wrote a 3 page letter stating that this particular coach taught her what NOT TO BE......In our case kids were taught to cheat, quit, throw objects, call girls fat, .....go back on your word..... so you see why the bad taste...... but I will say this there are SOME WONDERFUL HIGHSCHOOL COACHES OUT THERE!!!! I just wish we could clone them...... Just for the Info.....My DD wants to become a teacher and Coach....she says she can make a difference......so character and life lessons were taught but not in a positive situation.... VTEC you know where I am coming from just wish we had moved to your area a long time ago...... Everyone has personal experiences of good and bad but one bad apple either way doesn't make a bad basket..... My prayer would be that Coaches/Parents understand that they have the most important key to a childs success wether on the field or off.......that is Communication.... The problems usually start when COACHES(HS or Summer), and PARENTS forget to use that Key...... Let all sing now.....
  6. everyone has an opinion.......jmo Interfere????????? give me a break......... good thing these parent-coaches/parents/summer coaches have interfered from the age of 4yr to 18yrs.....or there wouldn't be a need for a highschool program.... .Coach23 is trying to offer help..we are talking about Batting Practice.... How many HS coaches complain about not getting enough swings in.....alot.. besides....if a kid wants more practice and it will help the kid, which will help their HS team, then whats the problem....once again its about communication.....if the kid doesn't want to practice or if its overwhelming to the parent then talk about it with the coach.....not to everyone that doesn't matter... Fan......If they are good coach they shouldn't get mad because they will understand it's about the girls..... Coldplay...... Well every good player works to be what they are and if they care that much then all they want to hear is scholarships, and if they are a good player and didn't play college ball then obviously they didn't love the sport to begin with!! just to let you know I am 16 so that is coming from a kid not a parent..... longtime coach.....One voice well I know of 11 varsity players that listened to 1 voice....hs coach....and now they are not playing for that school.....and yes they are good players.......and some have scholarships already.....so be careful about one voice... fastballbaker.....hurt?????? getting hurt just happens.....you can't control that .... heard where a girl got her leg broke the first day of hs practice......this can happen......fear ???? can't step onto the field thinking that or get out of bed .....life goes on and so does a true team...... Conclusion.........Find out what we want......Us...the players......You will be surprised what we will tell you .......its up to the Parents,Coaches to advise us on making the right decisions...... I am using my Dads screen name just for the record.....
  7. I welcome comments from all.....hopefully we will all be more informed! Its not real hard to understand the interpretation of this rule Coach23.....When I was coaching I basically ran into the same comments from Highschool coaches and parents.....Trust me if anyone has any ?????s pick up the phone and Call TSSAA 615-889-6740 speak with Benard Childress or any of the other directors......they are there everyday and are very helpful....trust me I know...... I also agree that HighSchool coaches should be thankful but as usual there are SOME that have EGO's larger than TEXAS......
  8. Gauntlet?????? You mean Blind Squirrel.....

Found out that You cannot get paid for teaching your athletic skills. Helping for free is Ok. You guys are correct. Don't understand why a coach, who knows better, would put a child or softball program in this situation. Thank You Everyone

? Can Highschool girls get paid for helping in a softball Camp? ?Can College Players get paid for helping in a softball Camp? What is the rule?
  13. Hopalot Thanks for seeing a few good points I guess in a way we have been off the orig subject but maybe not. I understand sometimes you are liked and sometimes your not. I have seen where good kids with good attitudes and good talent have been over looked and I guess that is where most of the frustrations come from with parents. If everyone would just do whats right. Can't help mentioning that Michael Jordan was cut from his highschool team as a sophomore....bet that was hard to deal with and Todd Helton did play alot of travel ball with the Knoxville Stars. Also Gender makes a big difference when it comes to playing a sport professionally. Professional Softball player as of this year might make around 5,000 for the summer. Of course indorsements help but the salary for now is low....Womens Prof Basketball average 40,000 plus indorsements It seems that highschool is scouted more in Football,Basketball and Baseball but here again male sports....The biggest thing a girl softball player hopes for is that college education and yes highscool plays a big part but mostly academics.....most scholarships are covered by academics. So there are some big hurdles out there for female athletes. By the way thanks for letting me vent I think we all need to sometimes.
  14. Sorry s3softball.... I guess the key word here is ABILITY. Coaches can't hide that no matter who their parents are wether its good ability or bad ability. Hopefully the season won't be over before the better ability outshines the other. I do know of several players going through this. Wish I had a better answer but hopefully things will change. Good luck and tell whoever it is to keep working hard and don't give up. thumb
  15. seen that too...key to younger players make sure they are on a team where they can play. They will never get better if they don't play. If they are 8 and playing 10u and getting to play then let them play up but don't leave them on a team where they don't get enough playing time. Some coaches will never see potential some parents will never see what is realistic. Each have their opinion so do what is best for your child. Don't depend on other's you will be let down. Never heard of a College coach recruiting a 12u kid in softball ... although Pat Summitt keeps her eyes on aau basketball players......sorry but can you beleive she watches summer travel basketball...figure she only watched TSSAA State....sorry that was mean Just so no one takes this the wrong way I do believe TSSAA is great.....just want to make a point that Everyone should be behind Highschool and Summer Programs because they are both great for the KIDS.
  16. To Ken Hawkins Maryville High School Softball Mr Hawkins. I call you Mr because you have earned my respect. I know you get alot of flack wher you are at but to be honest you are Honest about who you are and what you do. You should be an example to others out there. Those coaches you mentioned are good Coaches and no I am not one of them . Sounds like good communication. hopalot quote: "What i see is that the kids and parents see these summer tourneys(with their travel team) as being bigger than the TSSAA State Tournament. I don't (and never will) agree with that philosophy. Travel ball is very exciting because you get to hand pick your team and play against other select teams. It is good to gauge yourself against top competition that you don't always see during the school season. So understand, I am not knocking travel ball. I'm just old school and the school sport is more important to me than the travel. Just my opinion." When you take 12 of the best players(summer ball) from 1 or 2 regions and play other teams of the same caliber and you have sometimes up to 80 teams in a given week like an exposure tournament and over 100 college coaches or recruiters show up then how can that not be as equal.....or maybe bigger. Besides why would you not want to Promote both if is About the KIds....Here again something wrong there.
  17. Parental Police... Hopalot started to write alot, about 6 paragraphs but after what jacketsfan13 posted ....decided not to. I do wish you and your son well and wish we could all live in a perfect world but that would be heaven. Respect I agree with that. Have one child that played maybe everyother game I never said a word. He was only average on team of 10 superstars. But yet I encouraged him and told him to respect their decisions. Sometimes Parents can see that. Some can't Didn't say one was better than the other. Just why communicating is such a Sin. Be honest with the kids 1st and parents upfront and things will usually work out. Did say most kids are products of God given talent and skills taught from 4yrs and up.. Don't see many highschool coaches taking time out to have relationships with summer coaches.Jmo Ralph and Karen Weekly (UT coaches) invited every coach in E Tn to meet with them including highschool coaches on promoting fastpitch and local girls in TN....seemed like 100 or more Coaches were there Sadly only a few highschool coaches came. What is wrong with that picture. . Undermine.....ouch As a coach I realize that parents don't undermine they are only protecting their children and someday you will know what I mean.
  18. Why do highschool coaches feel so threatened by questions? As a Travel Coach trust me questions are part of it. If only Travel Coaches had 1/10 the power and authority of a highschool coaches. Sorry but parents have the right to question besides who took the time to teach these highschool kids from the ages of 4 to 14. thats right there summer coaches and parents. And they must be fairly good players or a good Coach would have cut them if they were not. I know that might make some people mad but Parents do have the right to Protect and Serve. And yes I have coached with my kid on the team and also without a kid on a team. I coached for the kids and the love of the game, Not the power or tenure. Good over all answer illpete23. To all those kids Keep trying and Parents keep praying that seems to be the only solution I have seen work so far. 5. If a coach does not have confidence in the player then that can have a great negative effect on the player in question. However, that player needs to keep believing in their own talent. If the player loses faith in their talent, then all hope is lost. You cannot let the ideas of a coach get you down as a player, because sometimes that coach may or may not be seeing something that everyone else sees or doesn't see.
  19. Meet somewhere in the middle! And I don't live in the middle. Wouldn't everyone be much happier especially when Memphis has to give it up in a few years. Only makes sense to me.
  20. Ouch! By the way, squirrel is spelled with 1 L. Your right I thought it was a little high but the guy from William Blount said he was worth it. Hey just sold him for $30.00. Can't tell you who it was but I am sure he will show up some where again. Go Heritage!
  21. Blindsquirrel = $10.00 Seeing Rebelraider = .02 cents(inflation) Not dragging Maryvilles fields = $1.50 Gate Fee to game = $4.00 Watching the Blindsquirrel run away with Rebelraiders Nut = PRICELESS Way to Go Heritage!
  22. Now whiff are you learning bad habits from Rebelraider. 5 post and all about Coach Hawkins. I smell something?? Did anyone else get a Whiff of someone?
