  1. Throw stats out the window from Saturday. If you watched the game you saw that Stone had 5 balls dropped by his receivers - one resulting in an interception. It is clear he has the potential to be a great player. He just does not have the height.

  2. Well said FBD. You are right on the money with burn out from mental fatigue. There is also some benefit to cross training. For instance, I know many would argue that football players benefit from wrestling or track.

I know Coach Bradley encourages his kids to play other sports as long as they are able to stay in the weight room, which all sports should be lifting weights year round anyway. The issue CAK has had is when the football players participate in other sports and get pulled from the weight room for two to three months. The teams CAK plays in football has kids who lift year round because all of the sports at those schools believe in the weight room. In the past, very few of the sports at CAK have believed in the weight room, which has hurt the football team, who believes in the weight room. With Pharr's belief in the weight room, I don't see kids playing football and baseball being a problem. They have had a bunch do that in the past. Coach Bradley goes to alot of the games to support them.

  3. All the more reason I had hoped they would have moved to DII A to maintain the rivalry and pit them against teams there own size.

As a CAK fan it seems pretty simple to me. Tell Webb to not play their scholarship kids and make it an even playing field and then we will play. Webb didn't dominate them this year. Webb has some athletes that CAK just doesn't have.

  4. Granted it's early, but for the first practice of Spring, QB Zack Dowdy looked sharp! He just seemed to have a presence in the backfield and also look like he's made some progress in the weightroom. He has nice size. Tyler Turner will be challenged for the starting position IMO and as a result we have 2 very solid choice behind center. We'll need this, along with some sure handed WRs and a stellar defense to make a real run in the post-season.

I am a huge Wesley Kitts fan, but I happen to think the running game, as a whole will be even better than last year, despite Kitt's departure for college.

Kevin Waggoner should be a solid performer at TB and Sophomore James O'Laughlin has the potential to really shine. I think O'Laughlin will be the biggest surpirse on the team, if not the WR coming over from the basketball team. O'Laughlin may be the fastest kid on the team and he runs in that seemingly patented Red Devil style > tough. Add in Ryan Pixley, who when it comes to tough, has no peer on the team and the backfield appears to be deep.

The depth at RB is not the primary reason I say the running game will be improved; the number one reason is I believe we will have a great running game is a "potentially" phenominal offensive line.

Steven Hill has gotten huge in the off-season (in a good way).

Caleb Leonard is, well, Caleb Leonard (possibly the best overall football player in East Tennessee this fall)

Also, rising Junior, Zach Shaddix is huge. He must go 6'3" and 340+. It's not his size that's so impressive, but I've heard great things about his progress in the weightroom. Sure he could stand to lose about 40 pounds to be at a more ideal playing weight, however, he carries his big body around well. I attribute this to the wightroom and his great attitude.

Provided we have a solid performer at Center, this line should be good for a 3-4 yard push on any given play, against anyone.

The kicking game will be solid with Jared Kahn.

Now it's time for us parents and boosters to get behind 'em early.

What time is the DB scrimmage next Friday and is at at Halls?

  5. Any word on how spring practice went?

They had spring practice early and actually finished up in early February. They are now back in the weight room and lifting hard. From what I heard things went well. They lost a lot with last years seniors but new players will step up.

  6. I'm just tellin it how it is...I currently go to CAK and I do remember Boyd Buchanan coming in and taking care of business 37-6 4 or so years ago, however i don't think it will turn out too much like the last one. From what i hear, Boyd has had down years ever since their god, matt peardon, graduated a few years back. Sure he was legit with a line that manhandled the competition that 2003 season, but the man acted like he walked on water. Maybe i'm being extremely irrelevant because most people reading this have no clue who i'm talking about, but CAK is ready for some revenge. The year after we lost to Boyd in the semifinals, we put in our locker room what Matt Peardon told the newspaper saying something along the lines of, "CAK was not what we thought. My line made holes for me and I ran through and over them all night" After saying something like that, he just motivated our team even more. The point i'm trying to make is CAK cannot stand Boyd Buchanan and if ur a Bucs fan, look forward to a long drive home. Bring the band, come hungry to eat our great concessions whatever but the ride home is gonna be rough. Boyd doesnt have any stand out players and to be honest i dont think CAK does either, but i can promise you my boy Joseph Bennett is the real deal. He may not be the biggest, but he's fast and will hit you and will make the tackle just about every play. Our O-Line, specifally my boy Joe Matlock, is legit, disciplined at the passing game of course and running this year as well. Our D-line, my boy Matt Huddleston, is good, but our linebackers and secondary are what makes most of the plays. Our Defense is fast so get ready. Quarterback and Runningbacks are both strong. The passing game as well as the running game should be good. I like to be reasonable, so reasonably i see CAK beating Boyd by 14-20, maybe more. CAK will lose some games this year i believe, but as far as Boyd, it just wont happen. It's a good home opener but competitor, not so much. I Look forward to seeing Boyd's "600" fans tomorrow, again i'm just tellin it how it is...gonna be!

As a CAK fan, I apologize for this complete lack of class. Boyd Buchanan is a great team with a lot of class. What happened in 2003 has absolutely no bearing on Friday night. The above opinion that was stated is not reflective of how everyone at CAK feels. Everyone needs to remember that HUMILITY is one characteristic that all fans should show, especially at a Christian school.

  7. Question for previous champs be it coaches or players-Is it smart to schedule three 5A teams (including Ravenwood), one 3A power and a solid divisionII out of region in preparation for a 2A championship run? Looks like a recent silver ball winner is trying to change things by playing a tougher schedule. Will this payoff as Alcoa's schedule against Maryville, Fulton and McCallie prepared them? Or will it backfire leaving them with nothing in the tank come playoff time?

My guess is that they probably didn't have much of a choice because no one else would play them.

  8. i think it will be a close game but with the way that cak's defense is playing they don't have to outscore you every game and i see them winning by a td

Has anyone looked at the level of competition that CAK has played. It doesn't appear to have been that strong. Maybe that is why they have looked so good.
