Well I know the exact 7 people that was on the hiring committee and Ballard wasn’t one of them but the good news is it took 2 years to get the right hire the last time a long time head coach stepped down

I don't think my post said he was on the committee but if you don't think he was consulted on this then you know less about the program than you let on.  This sounds personal to me.  I personally think this is a great hire.

You’re right, just think this hire shows the administration doesn’t care about their for head coach and current coaching staffs opinion on the hire but you’re right the sun will still rise in the morning

You do realize Ballard is still Assistant AD and involved in this process.  I would think he knows the current coaching staff's opinions better than anyone here.

  3. Please keep Zach Finchum and his family in your prayers. While pitching for Greeneville against Cumberland Gap yesterday he was struck in the face and neck by a broken bat. He had cuts to his neck and a broken jaw. He was taken to the hospital in Middlesboro, KY and then flown to a hospital in Knoxville where he had surgery today.

  5. Amen! You bought yourself a nice coach...you bought yourself a nice stadium...you bought yourself a nice quarterfinal win...what goes around comes around.

Pay attention and we will show you how it's done the right way. Rebel Nation.

And by the way Comp, I saw the video of the final play in the quarterfinals four more times at GHS's Football Banquet 2 weeks ago and #15 still didn't score.

I'll post this in this thread too...

    Here's a stat for everyone.

Greeneville has taken 523 free-throws this year. The next highest team in the IMAC has taken 355 free-throws.

This comes from a team who takes right at half of their field-goals from 3-point range (422 of 1075 from 3).

That is an interesting stat but since Greeneville is ahead in most of their games and their opponents are playing from behind, there is a tremendous amount of fouling for possession in their games too. That leads to more free throws.

Is this one at Greeneville? If it is, the Devils will likely win.

  8. The Greeneville Sun reported yesterday that the search committee has been formed and they are currently reviewing all of the applications received. They also said that they are still taking applications. The Director of Schools said that they wanted to have a coach in place by the end of February, but the article did not mention any names of candidates. Anyone heard any names mentioned?

  9. So what power does the new coach have ? What if he wants to drop to 3A, are the big powerful people in Greeneville not going to let him ? Who has the say so in that, dropping of classifications. To my knowledge, its up to the new coach if he wants to drop. Not the local natives that live in Greeneville !!!!

The Director of Schools said that he made this decision in a reply to a "Letter to the Editor" which questioned this issue in the Greeneville Sun recently and stated that if anyone wanted to hear the reasons behind this decision, they could speak with him. He is in charge of the school system, so if he says they will remain in 4A, they will.

  10. The 3A discussion is moot because Greeneville is not dropping to 3A. Whether you agree or not, those of you that have the opinion that Greeneville should drop have no say in them actually doing so and basically your opinion and reasoning do not matter. The school officials that do have a say in the decision have made it, and say that they will stay in 4A, a recent letter to the editor in the local paper addressed this issue and was responded to by the Director of Schools. From what I am seeing both Morristown schools and Crocket could all be headed to 5A if their numbers keep climbing. I have heard that a candidate has been selected, and if everything works out with him, an annoucement will be made soon.

  11. I don't think this decision was just about wins and losses. I think Coach Zeller was probably as good of a field coach that GHS has ever had and an even better person. For some reason, the kids at Greeneville were not interested in playing for him. I don't know exactly what it was but if you ever drove by the school when the varsity and freshmen teams were practicing or you went to the games, there were almost as many freshman players as there were varsity players and very few of those freshmen ever played past their freshman year. Maybe its the kids, i did see some attitude problems out there this year too, but unfortuately you can't change the players so the coach has to bear the consequences.

  12. Why would Greeneville want to drop in classification. They have been very competitive in 4A in football and they are also playing up in basketball and don't seem to be having any trouble there either. It makes no sense for Greeneville to drop. They have always competed with the schools that they compete against now, and like all the other programs in East Tennessee, have had up and down periods. They are having a down period now but had made the playoffs in 4A every year since the state went to 5 classes with the exception of the past 2 years. A new coach is going to come in, the ship will be righted, and all those who have nothing to do with Greeneville's program that want them to drop to 3A will still be wanting them to.

  13. What should be done was mentioned in another thread. Make a 3A conference in Northeast Tennessee. What could probably be done then is combine Regions 1 & 2 4A. That would probably screw up the playoff format for the state though. I guess a statewide reclassifation would have to be done which I think is scheduled for 2009 according to Maryville fan.

A 3A conference in Northeast TN would still include Rutledge, Claiborne Co. and Carter. That would be a killer travel expense for North, Eliz., Johnson Co., and Unicoi.

  14. A lot of Boone fans complained a couple of years ago about being moved to region 2. After the past 2 years of winning 7 and 9 games and making the play-offs both years we don't mind the extra 20-30 minutes of driving time every other week. Most of the time if you host even 1 playoff game you make enough money to cover the extra travel distance the team has to make. Most true fans would rather drive 45 minutes to see their team win than to drive 20 minutes to see their team lose.

You misunderstood my post. It's not about the drive it's about the teams that Greeneville is playing. Greeneville fans travel well no matter who they are playing, but these schools I was referring to will not bring the support that the schools Greeneville currently plays will. Greeneville has approximately the same number of students now that it has had for the last 20 years or so and has been very successful in 4A since the state went to 5 classes. I would put their Region record up against any other team with the exception of West and if my memory is correct they are the only team in Region 1 or 2 to beat West in the last 6 or 7 years. Greeneville has had a couple of down years but don't expect them to be down forever.
