1. It seems like Goodpasture is getting more first place votes than they were a few weeks ago. I believe the are up to 12 or 13. I am a Goodpasture fan, but I am not dillusional. Alcoa has not lost to another 2A team in 4 years. They should still be number 1 until someone beats them. Alcoa's only loss is to Maryville. CPA is another team that is not ranked in the top 10, but they would destroy most of the teams in the 10. Strength of schedule should be taken more into account. Lewis County??? York??? Smith County??? Who have these teams played?

DANR you are correct. It should be Alcoa until a 2A team beats them. Until then they are the Champs.

  2. Then play it in DII. That's all I'm saying. Rural publics don't have the same playing field as the small privates. You want to be private? Fine. Play in a private division. The playing field is not level.

What positions do those 4 athletes that joined play? Just curious....

But what about the multiplier that all the public schools wanted to level out the field?

  3. Show me the middle school roster from 4 years ago and the one for this year and let's compare notes. Word of mouth, booster involvement, work grants. However you want to phrase it. The rural public schools field the same teams year after year minus the ones that might transfer. That is definitely not the case with the private schools and isn't it just a coincidence that those that join after their middle school years are also excellent athletes? Hmmmmmm. How many underclassmen athletes sign on versus the general student body? I'll get back to you on the letters. I don't know off hand who sent them or which schools boosters made the phone calls.

That would be fine with GP. They have 19 seniors and 15 of them have been in school together since elementary. The other 4 came in during their 8th grade year. Please do not make statements unless you really know what you are talking about.

  4. True dat. I've said my piece and counted to 3 about 5 privates and 3 rural publics in the same region. The point is that the middle school team from Harpeth that held Goodpasture to 31 yards for the game and dominated them in every phase of the game will be the same high school team in 4 years. I doubt that can be said of any private school, Goodpasture in particular. That's part of the problem. I wish we could send letters to the promising athletes adjacent to our boundary and get them to suit up on Fridays.

It's kind of like having 5 travel teams in your rec league for lack of a better anology.

I do not believe GP sends out letters to promising athletes. If you have one of the letters please send it to the TSSAA because GP would be in violation of the rules since they choose to not be in Division 2 for sports. As a Division 1 school they cannot recruit in any way. So please have some proof before making any statements that they or any private Division 1 school cheats.

  5. I don't know if those boys were on the team last year; if they weren't, I have one word for you: RECRUITING.

Since GP is a private school, they don't have the recruiting restrictions that public schools do.

Please stop using the word recruiting. GP has never and will never go out and recruit a student to come to GP. All the young men on the football team have either been at GP since kindergarden or their parents decided to transfer them in at the beginning of their 9th grade year or before. All transfers go through a very complete study including approval by the TSSAA before they are allowed to play. As for the running backs, they were all on the team last year. It is amazing what a year of hard work and maturity will do. All except for 2 of them played in the BC/BS game last year. If you do know of any illegal recruiting by GP or any school please report it to the TSSAA.

  6. --The signs you are talking about were quotes from someone from Fairview that were posted on CoachT. They were used as motivation only, not to show unsportsmanlike conduct. If Fairview does not want those things to happen in the future I suggest they tell people to watch what they say. Also, we do not recruit. This is becoming very old. If we do someone needs to tell the TSSAA. If not, then please do not use this in the future to cover up for a loss.--

    To cp1205

It's amazing that when you all don't want to hear something you automatically lock out a topic. Hmm?

And as for stuff here on Coacht you say was wrote to Goodpasture you never know who writes it, it could have been anyone. You cannot say a player from Fairview did it. But through proof of what was wrote in your topic Goodpasture admitted it, how you say? Because they told what was left, I didn't. :D

What are you talking about? You are correct in that you ever know who writes the stuff on CoachT. The best thing to to do is to just congratulate a team when they beat you and try to get better for the next game. I am sure you guys will make the playoffs and have a very successful season.

  7. It was after the game. It was something they left. They came here to coacht, got the scores and posted them in the Fairview weight barn. Poor winners. Maybe their coach should teach them better sportsmanship or recruit better mannered players.

Ooops! Sorry not suppose to say recruit. :D

  8. Fairview played great and if everyone else is afraid to say it--- I am not! And that is 'money can buy anything--Even football players!'

:thumb: Fairview team is still a class act and I will root for those boys every time they are on the field! :thumb:

Good sportsmanship can be practiced when winning and when losing and after the little stunt at Fairview that Goodpasture pulled, I would classify them all as rich little boys with poor sportsmanship. <_<

    Enough said! ;)

I was there what stunt are you talking about. I saw great sportsmanship for both teams and coaching staffs.

  9. It depends on your defination of recruiting. I know of at least 10 kids from football to basketball that say they they have been approched by Goodypasture folks.  I guess Ron Mercer just wanted to go to a School beside the interstate.

Give their names and situation to the TSSAA so we can stop this and punish the rule breaker.

  10. Glad their at "hame." And we have previously established that Patrick Turner is  OVERRATED!!!!! Thank you for a pitiful post.

    Mark Gaither,

I was wondering what your experience is concerning grading someone's play. I would think that if every major college in the country and every major recruiting service is convinced that Patrick Turner is one of the top receivers in the country, then that should be sufficient. During the past 5 weeks Miami, Texas, LSU, Tennessee, Georgia, Florida, Florida State, Southern California, and Oklahoma have been to see him and offered scholorships. His recent trip to Southern Cal he was the only recruit they brought in that weekend. His stats, 35 catches, 594 yards and 6 TD's, this year are very good considering he is double or tripled teamed each play. In his career over 120 catches, over 2000 yards, and over 30 TD's. Pat is a good kid, just turned 17, and works hard to improve his game every day.

  11. Of course Goodpasture is in AA.  Do you really think that they would move up to AAA and continue to play David Lipscomb.  Now GP can play for a state title in AA, Lipscomb can play for a state title in AAA, and they are no longer cutting each others throats.

    825311710

GP is considering AAA. The school administration will make that decision with what is best for the program. I believe the coaches are wanting to move to AAA.

  12. Those old breakdowns don't mean anything. They divide the number of schools by 5 and have an even number in each class. If you got 300 teams you have 60 per class, if you have 296 you have you have 60 in 1A and 59 in the other four classes. The 60th school from the bottom would be in 1A, 61 would be in 2A, even if they were only one apart in enrollment.

    825304989

Thanks, I had not heard that.

  13. Have the classification breakdown changed for 2005-09? The old breakdown was:

5A - Schools with an enrollment of 1,348 and above

4A - Schools with an enrollment of 961 to 1,347

3A - Schools with an enrollment of 675-957

2A - Schools with an enrollment of 364-673

1A - Schools with an enrollment of 361 and under

According to the TSSAA web site(http://tssaa.org/Classifications/20052009enrollments.htm) with the 1.8 mulitplier Goodpasture's enrollment is 666 for 2005-2009, which would keep them in 2A, unless the school decided to move up.

  15. I saw Patrick Turner play in two games last year and was very unimpressed.

He can not run a 4.5 and only played have the offensive plays against CPA.

I am not saying that he is not a big strong good looking kid but don't but he is

playing against 1A and 2A teams that can't physically match up. Let them play the BGA's of the world where John Harlin-a 4.8 basketball player- shut Patrick down

completely. When the season ends teams will be looking at Turner as a tight end

and not as the best receiver in the state

    825300314

I guess you are right and all the major college coaches in the country are wrong.

  16. what places have offered Patrick Turner for next year and what are his favorites?

    825297150

Texas, Tennessee, Oklahoma, Southern Cal, LSU, Georgia, Florida, Floida State, Miami. He does not have a favorite but will wait until his visits to make a decision.

  17. If coaching is the difference, then did GP coaches out coach the DL coaches when they won? I beleieve both coaching staffs are excellent and that the talent levels are equal. Usually the difference is mistakes and who can make the big plays.

  18. Twittycane,

GP respects DL and I believe DL respects GP. They both work very hard to be the best each and every year. I do not believe that one out works the other. Football is a funny game and things go in streaks. GP had DL's number for several games and now DL has won the last 2. I know this year's game will be no different than the last few, it will come down to who makes the fewest mistakes. Even if you did not mean to do so, you said some things that is a slam to GP's program. Their coaches work just as hard and their players work just as hard. Good luck to both programs and I am sure that one of the two will be in the running come December.
