  1. Hurd is coming out of the I this year with every opposing defense stacking the box and blitzing every play. He is ranked 5* for a reason guys, and even under heavier defenses (Henry Co. & Mt. Juliet), he ran for 460 and 299, respectively. Besides Elder, there is no one in the state that is even in the same league at that position. As for all around athlete, that would go to Jalen Ramsey. These are the big boys in the state.

What position will Hurd play in college? Absolutely anything that he wants. He's being recruited as a RB, and if Mr. Saban says that he can run the ball, then he can run the ball. Also, Hurd & Ramsey are the only 2 players in the entire state to pick up an offer from the national champions.

And no disrespect to the Dejuan Swafford kid, but he's not even ranked, runs a 4.7- 4.8 and has only one offer from a school (Liberty) that I have never even heard of. I am sure that he's a great player, but has no place on this topic.

Devaun Swafford belongs on this thread. You love the stats don't you vol74. Let me ask you a question; how many NFL players does your school have playing right now? The high school (Dobyns Bennett) where Devaun plays has 3 current NFL players and many, many more before that. I have seen plenty of NFL talent come through Dobyns Bennett. Guess what? All of the current NFL players were either no stars or maybe 1 star. You know why? Because there is crap for media coverage in upper east tn. I live in Nashville now. I have seen Devaun play, he is as good as any of the 3 current players Dobyns Bennett has in the NFL right now. Take your stats and shove them, because the ultimate measure in football is the NFL. Lets put it this way Vol74. I grew up in upper east TN and I go back and watch games often. If devuan swafford played in middle tn with better media coverage, he would be probably a 2 maybe 3 star player. Trust me there are so many 3 and 4 star player from middle TN that never get a chance in the NFL.

  2. Right, when Smith was hired, he said he was going to beat the big 3, Elizabethton, TN High, and DB. He also said the ultimate goal was to win a title, what coach doesn't say that. Any rational person knew that a title was and still is a heck of a long way off, especially knowing what is waiting for any NE TN team west of Knoxville. Truth is, if it weren't for the hype that DB people build going into the postseason, no one would say anything about their early playoff exits. As you pointed out, once a NE TN faces an opponent from Knoxville or west thereof, season's over in most cases no matter what round of the playoffs we're in.

See that is just it. Your, truth is part. Everyone I know, including the people on here always hate being ranked too high, and always know that a 1st or 2nd round game is going to be a team that is much tougher then a local conference team. It is the media who rates DB too high. I have been around the QB club and all the people who actually invest money or time and nobody "hypes" DB as you say. Even if we have the best team in years, like this year, most are quite because they don't want to have it shoved back in their face if they lose. The truth is, you hear DB fans say they will have a pretty good team and you inflate that to (DB thinks they will win state) and you love it if DB gets knocked out in the 2nd round. I have been around DB football my whole life and this year especially (since people are so sensitive to the fact that there might be a let down) people are being low key. So you are dreaming it buddy. You want DB to think they are #1 so if they lose early you can say I told you so. It just is not true, because I am in, among, and around these people all the time.

    1. The streak isn't up to twenty years, not yet anyway. No matter how long it lasts, it'll end....eventually. And yes, last year's game was laughable.
    2. In the 20 years I've been involved with Science Hill as a student and supporter, I have never heard anyone claim we were going to win a state title in football, especially when a new coach was brought in. There was some excitement when Scott Smith was brought in, in part because he was an unknown. That lasted all of 4 weeks into his first season. Judgement on Stacy Carter hasn't been determined. Even Smith had a 7-3 season during his tenure. Carter's progress will be judged in part by producing consistent improvement and results over several seasons. And still, we're not talking state titles. Science Hill people are realists and we fully understand the environment we are in. We also understand that this is High School football and there are more important things students are involved in.

    3. That being said, there is no reason why both SH and DB shouldn't go into week 10 9-0, especially given the fact that Science Hill is the largest school in the state and when you take into account Science Hill's success in every other athletic program.

    4. You may think my quotes came from 1 or 2 fans, but sadly, that is not the case. I do business in Kingsport regularly, work with DB graduates, and have many family members that work at Eastman. I hear these phrases and similar one several times at any point throughout the year. It still may be a minority, but it is more prevalent than you'd like to admit.

I agree with almost everything. I know you work with DB fans so you get some opinions you don't want to hear. And as fans of different schools we are both going to say that WE have NEVER heard our own fans say anything that might be saying too much. But I remember very well that when Scott Smith came to Science Hill, with their student body size and talent pool, they would not only beat DB, but get a title. It was said on here and other places because I remember it well. That being said, I can understand some of what you have heard from DB fans. The truth is, schools around here have a problem getting past schools Knoxville and west. Now some schools don't meet a Knoxville team until 3rd or 4th round. But the big schools like Science Hill and DB meet them in the 1st round often. And if you compare schools from our area against schools from Knoxville and west, you will be shocked. Greeneville has been an exception of late.

  3. It sure is easy to get you DB people upset. I guess whenever I want to see you guys get hysterical, I'll come back and remind you that you haven't won...well, haven't had anything given to you SINCE 1964. But alas, I have more important tasks to tend to.

I was watching the 98 Fiesta Bowl and was wanting a TN victory as much as the next vol fan, but that doesn't change my belief that the system is fundamentally flawed. And if my thinking is so wrong, why will we have a playoff in 2014 when thought of such was laughable a few short years ago.

And lastly, you DB folks need to relax. I present you with indisputable facts and a logical opinion, and you react as if someone is ripping your heart from your chest. And you have the audacity to tell me to get a life when you and your brethren cling to this board and follow the same script every year.

Summer Workouts - "DB has a lot of returning starters, going to be the year in DB history"

Practice starts/Jamboree - "Going to be the best year in DB history, finally going to bring the gold ball to kingsport"

Regular Season - Redundant self praise of beating hapless NE TN teams in a weak conference

Round 1 of Playoffs - "This week starts our road to destiny and finally bringing that gold ball to kingsport"

Round 2 of Playoffs - Another early playoff exit. Repetitive calls for Graham Clark's termination and how a competent would have won it all with this much talent. This persists for several weeks until the site administrator closes the discussion thread

Offseason - After coming to face reality that Graham Clark is still your head coach, you graciously give him a forum via this message board on how to avoid another embarrassment in the postseason

Summer Workouts - Cycle repeats and continues

And that pretty much sums up the existence of a DB football fan. So tell me, who really needs to "get a life"? Cling to your 13 "state titles" if it help you sleep at night. I'll be with the rest of humanity that doesn't need a high school football to validate our existence.

This is all pretty funny coming from a Science Hill fan. For every quote you manipulate into what only a few fans might actually say, remember there is a majority of DB fans that know DB is not perfect and that playoffs are a problem for every team in upper TN when faced with teams from Knoxville or West. The only exception has been Greeneville of late. I don't care if South gets to the 3rd round, because once they get to Knoxville and past, the fall. It is unfortunate that DB and Science Hill meet these teams that are more West bound in the 1st round often.

So anyways, got off the subject. Voltnh, for every DB fan that you tried to quote ( a minority of DB fans) you Science Hill fans have to own up to the fact that all we heard about on here when your last coach came from middle TN is that Science Hill will win state, it is just a matter of time because coach from middle TN and all his fancy offense was just too much for East TN team to handle. It ever happened. In fact I thin he was worse then the coach before. Now with Carter we hear the same thing. Science Hill got beat so bad at Science Hill by DB last year it was funny. So you claim a few DB fans talk, don't forget all the poop coming from Science Hill even claims about how they will win state. Also, Science Hill has a good 500 kids more then DB. It is hard to knock DB when your own program has not beaten DB in what like almost 20 years?

  4. Talent? Were talkin about talent? (See Allen Iverson Interview for laughs and for insight) The 2012 Indians will be the most talented team that Clark has ever had....period. Devon Swafford rated the 4th best player at a recent Nike Camp in Charlotte and Malik Foreman scored #13....out of 1300 players. That's the same Camp that got Ty Hayworth a full ride at Wake Forest.

If the Indians don't win it all in 2012...you don't put in on Talent, this team is more loaded than any other by far.... I know where to put it and you do to.

I am pulling for those guys to win it all and I will be at every game giving my all with about 5000 - 7000 faithful fans.

    Roll Tribe Roll

Art I see where you are coming from. But i disagree. Yes the current roster is talented and will do many great things. However in 1998,2000,and 2002 all these "camps" were much more far and few between camps and they were not near as important or given so much credit as they are today. The 1998,2000, and 2002 teams just given the eye test was enough for anyone to inow they were studs. Now, I am not saying DB in 2012 is not equal, better, or worse. It is just that back then thise guys did not have the chance to be rated as our current guys do becuase camps were more rare, etc.

  5. I have said this before and I will once more for all the private school people that can't accept the fact that oh my gosh, a public school (Maryville) is better coached and a better team. I have seen all the top teams play this year. Let me get to the first point, Baylor. Baylor destroyed Ensworth and Ensworth beat them good the second time but this is to my point. Look at Maryville; look back for years. Nobody stomps Maryville ever. Since Maryville's title run, theironly losses have been close. Maryville makesthe least mistakes of any team. Ensworth would get beat on their best night, and crushed on their worst night. End of story.

  6. I Live in Nashville. I have seen Ensworth and Maryville in games this year and many times prior. Maryville is a 7 point favorite this year. Sounds like this game almost happened if Ensworth had played in the classic. That would be fun. Regardless, Baylor stomped Ensworth, Ensworth stomped Baylor. Maryville still has the better coaching, why? Because Maryville does not make a Baylor mistake like Ensworth did and Maryville would never lose by such a large margin. Ensworth had a meltdown when things got tough, it would happen all over again versus Maryville. Bet the house on it.

  7. You will NOT get Rankin as he will not leave Alcoa for another public school as he has enough time in already to start drawing his retirement pay. The only thing he will leave for is a private school job or a public in another state. The only reason Alcoa got him is they gave him an Asst Principal job with the MONEY that entailed after he did NOT get either of the out of state jobs he wanted. One was at Valdosta in Ga and the other was Hoover in Ala.

Now as to what the problem is, I have NO idea because I am not there to watch. I will say it does take something to give up 28 points in a couple minutes over the last quarter. That is CHOKING on a GRAND SCALE! :roflol:

I will say good luck because unless 'something' changes, this will be the same thread NEXT year. You know like it has been for the last 10 years.

One more for you Old Dad since you are a good guy then I am done. Money is not a problem for DB. I am not saying a new coach is the direction they will go, but if it is Kingsport and Oak Ridge pay the most in the state salary wise. Look it up. Couple that with DB easily having the largest season attendance in the state (I have not only witnessed this, but researched as well) plus the largest private company (Eastman) and many others backing and adding to the pay of the coach of their choice. Also in addition to higher school salary, remember cost of living here is cheaper then Knoxville, Nashville, Memphis, Boro, Brentwood, and etc so your money goes further. With the most powerful financially backed QB club in the state, money is not a problem. When MBA tried to hire Clark in 2001 with all of their money, DB simply raised his salary.

  8. I think this is about the 10th year straight someone has made this kind of post about DB. <_<

Folks in the far east wonder why a BUNCH of folks in the rest of the state do not have that much respect or FEAR of ANY team besides Maryville, Oak Ridge and Alcoa! Until you get past the third round, you are NOT that good.

I don't think any real DB fan claims to be as good as you may think. As far as Oak Ridge, DB own's Oak Ridge with a 12 - 8 record against them since Clark has coached DB. Also, why do you think Oak Ridge does not play DB anymore in the regular season as a non-conference game since the classification change? Yep, Oak Ridge could not fit it in their schedule. That is nice and convenient.

Spend time pulling for your team rather then trying to bring down others that are obviously trying to figure out how to improve.

  9. DB fan here. DB has not won one in a long time, but has so may titles in football that it is still an on going expectation. DB had the teams in 98,200, and 2002 that made the semis but had unreal luck like in 2002 DB turned the ball over 7 times. In 2000, they played gerald riggs in a monsoon and we had a bunch of skill receivers. Red Bank was home field and of course they had option to call game until Saturday, but a monsoon played to their advantage and Gerald did his thing, and DB could not pass. 1998 was about the same. Frustrating to say the least. I really think that once a school is in 6A it does not matter how big they are. For example for the 2009-2013 seasons 6A started at about 1,460 students with Henry County. Note I know that since 2009 Henry County has dropped to 5A, But the largest at the time (2009) of these numbers was McGavock High School with 2817 students. I promise you 9 out of 10 games played against those two would favor Henry County. Here is my source by the way http://www.commercialappeal.com/news/2008/Oct/21/2009-2013-tssaa-classifications-announced/

I realize Henry County is now one of the largest 5A schools, but looking at those numbers means that some schools will play schools nearly double their size in 6A. Given the most up to date numbers.... (http://www.tssaa.org/newenrollments.cfm) Maryville at (1524 students) is not even 60% the size of some schools, yet they win 6A often.

Point is, it is all about feeder schools, coaching, community, and probably last is talent. I can name many schools that have more talented football players then Maryville, but those schools do not have the coaching, the feeder sysytem, or the community support of a school like Maryville.

Jefferson County has had teams in the past that are top notch. Jefferson County, will find it again one day. It all goes in cycles. I remember a time when Maryville was not good at all. Things change. Jeff Co. has too much tradition, be patient, and by the way......big numbers can't hurt.

  10. I agree with Pepvol. DB band was unbelievable. They may have outshined the Pride of the Southland Marching band. The Pride of the Southland is one of the best College Bands there is.

DB actually has a larger band then UT . UT's band connects to speakers to help them be louder. DB was all natural, no speakers pushing their sound. Great show on Saturday.

  11. My o my the Boone DB matchup. While most dont realize Boone and DB are 1-1 in big 8 conference meetings. And all u DB fans werent u all saying these same types of things just two yrs ago when Boone rolled into your little precious J Fred Johnson stadium and WON!!!!! DB got more money than they know what to do with along with some 2,500 kids while Boone was fighting just a few yrs ago to keep certain sports in the school because of the finances at a county school with some 1,400 kids.... Im not makin excuses im just stating facta here and with all that Boone came out on top just a few yrs ago helpin lend DB their first losing season since 86 I think, just saying that IT IS POSSIBLE. Now do I think Boone will win, maybe not but im excited for it..... Will give my predictions later in the week....... A quote from one of the wisest men ive been able to meet in my life and I know he'll be tellin this on Friday... "It's not the size of the dog in the fight, but it's the size of the fight in the dog."

Are you really stating the facts? I see....just like your cousin's, brother's, mom's, 2nd cousin removed told you. Really? 2,500 students at Dobyns Bennett?

    Here are the facts:

    78) Daniel Boone High School - Gray, TN - Total Enrollment: 1289

    18) Dobyns Bennett High School - Kingsport, TN - Total Enrollment: 1881

Both schools put the same number of players on the field. Dobyns Bennett is 9-3 against Daniel Boone. Daniel Boone last beat Dobyns Bennett in 2009 by the score of 17-14. Daniel Boone had not beaten Dobyns Bennett since 1985 before that time. Boone beat Dobyns Bennett in 2009, which was Dobyns Bennett's 1st losing season since (guess when) 1985. The last 2 times Boone has won, the Tribe has been way down.

Love your so called facts about numbers. You see; while 5A schools complain about DB having 1,881 kids, which usually makes DB come out to about 500 or so kids more,.....People don't see Dobyns Bennett complain that Science Hill actually does have 2,600 kids. That is 700 more then Dobyns Bennett, yet the Tribe owns them. So there goes your argument. Also, in 6A, there is no enrollment cap and in the past Dobyns Bennett has competed with and beat teams that have nearly double the numbers, as Farragut did before the new school was built. Quit complaining about student enrollment. The Tribe regularly whips bigger schools like Farragut, Bearden, Science Hill, and Jefferson County. See below and your argument is based off a lie.

    1) Mcgavock High School - Nashville, TN - Total Enrollment: 2706

    2) Science Hill High School - Johnson City, TN - Total Enrollment: 2565

    3) Antioch High School - Antioch, TN - Total Enrollment: 2456

    4) Houston High School - Germantown, TN - Total Enrollment: 2330

    5) Bolton High School - Arlington, TN - Total Enrollment: 2266

    6) Farragut High School - Knoxville, TN - Total Enrollment: 2223

    7) White Station High School - Memphis, TN - Total Enrollment: 2210

    8) Collierville High School - Collierville, TN - Total Enrollment: 2183

    9) Jefferson County High School - Dandridge, TN - Total Enrollment: 2163

    10) Cordova High School - Cordova, TN - Total Enrollment: 2139

    11) Cookeville High School - Cookeville, TN - Total Enrollment: 2128

    12) Cumberland County High School - Crossville, TN - Total Enrollment: 2108

    13) Germantown High School - Germantown, TN - Total Enrollment: 2029

    14) Bearden High School - Knoxville, TN - Total Enrollment: 2006

    15) Riverdale High School - Murfreesboro, TN - Total Enrollment: 1987

    16) Hunters Lane High School - Nashville, TN - Total Enrollment: 1968

    17) Lavergne High School - Lavergne, TN - Total Enrollment: 1941

  12. Is this the same TN High that claimed they were better than DB. Jeff County on a down year dominates Tennessee HIgh? The game was all Jeff County until they let up. Yep, sure, TN High can hang with the big boys. DB is 18-2 versus Jeff Co and the losses were in 83 and 91 when Jeff Co was nationlly ranked. Face it, TN High and all the other teams DB playes are not that good. And to say South or TN High have made it far in the playoffs compared to DB is insane. The fact is, once the divisions are drawn out, upper east TN teams have a hard time getting past Knoxville teams and DB has done this more of late. In other words a TN High or South team making a 4th round playoff game against a Knoxville team is equal to a DB team playing a Knoxville area team in the 2nd round because of the layout. Jeff Cobeating a TN High team shows the difference in level of play. DB has beatean Jeff Co since 1991. Begin Excuses

  13. South vs Enka was not a good show for South. Enka is considered a joke for the other teams in the NC area. Sorry, if you want to play out of area teams play good teams. DB has played MBA, Oak Ridge, etc. Enka is not a good team and NEVER has been. In fact for Enka to go 5 & 5 is good. South will be crushed by DB. DB will let up and be nice as usual, although South would never do the same in return. The score will be whatever Clark feels like.

  14. I'll take this one.....what do i think about DB compaired to Maryville?? It's just a scrimmage *wink*..i dont think Maryville was as eager to get after GHS as DB was..that was apparent from the outset. The lineplay was simply awful on both sides for GHS ( assuming our D line is supposed to be one of the best in the state...) i know malone's out, but I dont think it would have mattered tonight. The honest truth of the matter is it just looked like the DB kids were ready for this and the GHS kids werent, which to me is mind boggling....good luck to both when it counts. would like to see more Gold balls brought back to NET

I hear what you are saying and I can understand why you might think this as a fan of a team that was at wrong end of a scrimmage score. But DB is known to experiment and or lose to teams they can and do regularly beat during the regular season. Greeneville played with some variations today, DB did too. For those of you trying to say Greeneville was not trying, or was experimenting too much and lost, the same goes for DB. DB experimented, DB had people hurt too. Saying Greeneville did not try and DB was dead set on winning, is a sure sign that you are making an excuse. Two teams came out today to get better. What would happen during the rgular season is hard to say. I hope Greeneville wins their class, and I hope DB does too.

  15. I am not here to play around. I state the facts. Fact, Greeneville has only beaten DB ONCE since 1969. Most years DB has won by over 2 TD's. In 2010 DB and Greeneville scrimmaged. DB, won. DB is also known to play non starters and execute plays not normally used during a game situation while playing in a scrimmage still fcame out on top versus Greeneville. The only game Greeneville ever won was at Greeneville during 2002 and to this day the game remains in dispute with several calls that could go either way. The most famous was the ankle twist executed against the DB running back, which resulted in a Devils advantage for twisting a DB runner's ankle as he retaliated. Again, 1 victory since 1969, including a scrimmage from 2010 the Devils seem to forget, and a crap call in 2002 is the only claim to fame.

  16. Actually, im surprised DB wants to play Clinton. I mean, DB doesnt have anything to gain from playing a smaller class team. I agree with most of the DB fans, i believe DB playing Maryville or Oak Ridge would help them come playoff time. Personally, I like playing DB because i think playing better teams makes your team better.

Oak Ridge decided to end the series. Trust me, DB needed and looked forward to that game. Ask Oak Ridge why they ended it.

  17. No, you are the most embarrassing thing that came from Kpt. Back when football was dropped from ETSU, there wasn't enough talent in this area (as it is today) to recruit from, including the mighty db. I don't care if it is basketball or marbles, you db fans would get on here and crow till the cows come home if you ever won a state championship. Oh! they did win some back in your days, GENERAL JACKSON. Also, sounds like you know about these guys you're talking about. Didn't I see you walking the JC mall with your boyfriend. HMMMMMMMMMMMM. :roflol:

To say that ETSU football failed because there is not enough talent in the area is funny. All other sports at ETSU seem to be fine. The problem is, that dome. Nobody like it for football. Face it, the dome is crap for football. The most people ever there for a football game was TN High vs DB way back. And to say the area does not have enough talent (as you say) is a direct slap in the face to the 2nd largest high school in the state with almost 800 more students then DB. Really, this is sad

  18. No, it's fools like you that think DB will win a state championship in football. If you read any posts from Viking supporters they never say this. They know this will probably will never happen. As long as Maryville is still in the waiting DB will NEVER smell one. Just be happy with beating Central, Volunteer, etc. and winning the Big 8 conference every year.

Please show me where I said this? Or any other real DB fan that we expect to win State. I think our expectations are as real as yours after TN High taking a beating by Maryville and other Knoxville are teams. The fact is (and go look this up) every school from our area other then DB is owned by Knoxville area schools, regular season or playoffs. Like it has been said, DB played in a Knoxville league and won it several times, even playing Oak Ridge non conference. It was Chattanooga or Nashville teams stopping them then. The fact is, no matter the size of the school, our area struggles vs the rest of the state. But DB has the best record. I promise DB has never lost to Volunteer like TN High has in the playoffs.
