  1. Lifer, good to hear from you. Tut you need to be a little nicer.
  2. The staffs I was on were Terry Anderson, Steve Harris, And Jim Fuller. The other was Doug Mullican, Wayne Bush, Steve Peden, And Jim Fuller. Another good staff was Hillsboro in late 80's, Terry Anderson Maurice Fitzgerald, Paul Brunette Terry Shrader, Alan Vierra, and myself. When Coach Dunn was at Antioch the staff was Ronnie Wilson, Jim Oversteet, Alvin Jones, and Bill Whittaker.
  3. Lifer, name the best Metro staff you can remember. I will say maybe the Maplewood staff in the 70's. Name another .
  4. Currie teaches at an Elementary school (PE). Dooley is in the building. Neither lost their teaching slot.
  5. Bush was never considered to be let go . You have confused him with Currie and Dooley. They were the coaches let go.
  6. Bush is not one of the coaches that was let go.
  7. Lilal, I love being an assistant ,and I am happy. I'm not going to go just anywhere, I have a great teaching position at HL. When I find the right job I will leave, until then I will continue to look and talk about it when I'm asked. I've had chances to leave. they just were not what I'm looking for. I'm not going to work where the teaching job or the Head coach is not the the type I'm looking for. I have no desire to be a Head coach anywhere, I was asked at a school that is starting football. Being an assistant is a good position if working with the right Head coach. Thank you for your concern and advise, please stay in touch. I will keep you advised with my status. Thanks for caring, your friend, Buddy.
  8. Mcnine , where have you been? How do think the Bears will do now? Would you have liked playing in this type offense? What position would you play? I think a new defense will be installed by someone new. I think this was part of a deal made when hired. I still wish I knew who you were, I love hearing from past players, all of you guys were a big part of my life. Remember that in any offense you must runtheball. Take care.
  9. I have plans to be doing something different next year and going south is a possibility. I do not plan on being at HL next year, but never say never. I was planning on starting a program here at a small private school , but we hit a snag. I might go to work in the furniture industry or drive a truck, who knows.
  10. Lifer, hit any golfballs lately. Where have you been? Have not seen you on hear.
  11. The coach let go was not the Head Coach. He was an assistant and has been there for 10 years. I'm not opposed to any coach getting his people, but not at the expense of someone's position having done nothing wrong. I know the Antioch situation as well as anyone and know that Coach W. will need some coaches like the one he has let go. Are you going to become an Antioch fan now? Best wishes to Coach W.
  12. I do not know Coach W. I do know the coach let go. I just wish he would have given him a chance, even as just a position coach. He can coach and is needed with the type of athletes you are referring at Antioch. As far as being treated bad, I don't like seeing people let go without a chance to prove themselves. Also , he is losing money. I do hope and glad to hear he will have high expectations of the players and will not give in to win a game. He will have total support of the coaches and I think he will win with the players that have the right attitude. He might lose a few kids, but the kids that do what is expected will be better players in the long run. I wish him nothing but the best.
  13. Hey Cat, what are you taking issue about. I never said that Coach W is wrong in wanting his people. I'm saying that this coach can coach, I know this for a fact, is being ousted and this will take money out of pocket. He will land on his feet and get another coaching job. I just think he was mistreated. You are right about years and being a good coach, but this man is a good coach. Also alot of the young coaches have no idea what coaching is either. It is not about schemes and some fancy X's and O's.
  14. These coaches can coach, One was a defensive co-ordinator at the college level for 15+ years, so it is not because he can't coach. I'm not disagreeing, it just takes money out of a man's salary, for really no reason unless he just wants a friend on his staff.
  15. I have heard that a spread offense is easier to coach than a traditional offense that most of us have played ourselves. The blocking rules are simpler , there are only 4-5 running plays. If if was the answer don't you think Riverdale and Hillsboro would be running it . Hard to argue their success.
  16. You do not think that good match-ups can occur in a one wide-out situation. Spreading the field is not the answer. If you have one great receiver and a great QB you can hurt people. Take this play for example, Pro set, split end is to the left.Quick play action to the right, throw back left on an out pattern. This is just as good as spreading the field in a shot-gun and sending 4-5 receivers out, plus a good run set. After a few catches then run an out and up. If you had been a top receiver we could have done this. Tell me what QB we had that was as good as T.C. Jennings. He had more to do with their success than anything. I still say you can do just as good a job passing in any set if you have players who can pass and catch. Good luck to the bears.
  17. The spread is not the reason for the region's success. Schemes don't win , players win.A scheme has to fit the players, not the other way. This scheme will go away just like all the others. You can throw just as well out of any formation. I know there have been some games against spread teams in Williamson co. that have resulted in a lost or a narrow win against running teams. It begins and ends with a very good QB.
  18. Shadow, SSDD. Fishman , are you hoping Johnson goes to PC, or just supporting rumors. I know he has applied.
  19. I've said all along that I think the job should go to Bush. Why are you hiding behind a user name, it is not a big deal to know who you are. Help us in Metro by giving us some quality candidates and your reasons. I get on here everyday if you want to discuss football, but I'm not going to bash back and forth with you. Hope to hear from you if you will post with something to talk about.
  20. Jack is a good coach, who studies the game, but it is not anymore difficult to prepare for his style than some others. Jack would be with some good athletes, but it would be totally different than the players he works with now. I do think he could win,but I think alot of people can win with talent and in a different scheme other than a wide open offense. Hillsboro has won alot of games and not thrown much. Alot of schemes can win with the same players.
  21. Shadow, you may be on to something.Green Lantern, it has always been a good ole boy system. Used to be if you were not in the system you did not even have a chance. It was that way when I got a job. I thought I was given the job because I was the best. I found out that it was just being at the right place at the right time and then having ties at the schools. I'm sure alot of times this is the case. Sometimes the best X's and O's guy is not the best fit. There is more to it than that. Every school system is different and have their set of problems. The grass is sometimes green for a reason.
  22. I've known Jason since he was about 10 years old. I got him in Antioch to help coach. So ,yes he is a friend. Scott Smith is a friend also , but I don't think this is the right fit for him,or most Mid-state coaches. Some coaches do better in certain jobs. Jason has proven to be a loyal coach and has great relationships with the team as I earlier stated. Coach Mac would be the first to tell you that he deals with the players in any circumstance necessary. As far as his knowledge of the game he knows more than enough to coach either side and special teams. And just like all coaches if they don't know then they find out. He is constantly studying the game and staying up to date. He als has the right personality to deal with the kids at Antioch. Alot of coaches can't deal with the circumstances in Metro, He can. But it will be a hard task for whoever gets the job. Coaching football is more than X's and O's anyway. Keep it simple is best anyway.
  23. The kids that play are saying this because they know Bush will kick their butts ,and make them work, and in the process will eliminate any non-winning me first attitudes. The kids know it will be hard, and I bet that all players will not want him, but the ones you can win with will.
  24. I don't think bashing is what's being done. The truth should be known. How do you tell the truth without sometimes being negative? If these things are true ,shouldn't the people that will name the coach know it. McNine, I think Coach Smith is where he should be. Indy and Ezell are places I think he is better off at. I enjoyed working with him and consider him a friend, but he is where he is best suited. Antioch would not be a good job for him, or maybe anywhere in Metro.
