  1. Old Pirate is jest curious.......Coach Vic stated some have lied to his face about having same open dates. IS Grace one of them that lied to him? Nah...surely not another "Church School" that would do something like that....Figure it musta been Bledsoe :popcorneater:

OP wonders what not renewing a contract means.....since you've cleared the air that folkes is not avoiding SP,SM and Boyd. OP jest ca't want to hear this skillet head reply :popcorneater:

Not renewing a contract means that a team made a choice to not play again. It happens all the time in high school sports and college sports. South Pitt played Tyner 2 years ago but have not played the last two years. No one is saying that they are avoiding each other. I guess they made a choice to go different directions. It happens and that doesn't mean a school should be criticized for choosing to play different teams. If some team lied or backed out of an agreement that is a separate matter.

Grace has never lied to him. Our coach said when he did ask to play us it was after the schedule was full. If there was a misunderstanding with that I will apologize for the coach because I know he has been honest the whole time. Grace is not perfect, but I know we try to handle every situation in a Godly manner.

  3. Since there are many schools that don't have football teams baseball and basketball games that we drop are not hard to fill. We have a pretty big district in baseball and basketball so we have a pretty full schedule just playing those games. The only teams I know for sure that refuse to play us in football are Bledsoe and Grace but I'm sure there are more. As far as picking only teams in baseball and basketball that we think we can beat is false... we have lost a lot of games over the years for that to be the case. We just lost big to Grace last week...for the last time anyway. Aren't you a Grace fan?

I am a Grace fan that is why I asked. Grace just played South Pitt the past 2 years in football even though we didn't have to. I know that Grace decided to take a break for the next 2 years, but it is not because we are trying to avoid South Pitt. As you know well, South Pitt is a great program. Grace is striving to be a great program and is trying to go a different direction for a couple of years. With the exception of 1 year we have not even been close to competing with you guys so it doesn't really benefit you guys to play us. I know when I first became associated with Grace, South Pitt would not play Grace in basketball. The past couple of years they have and they have been competitive. The loss last week was a few days removed from the state championship. Basketball guys had maybe 1 practice. When they play later it will be closer.

I respect Coach Grider and what he said in the paper, but just because a team chooses not to play you doesn't mean that they are avoiding you. I am sure Alcoa would not want to play us, but I know they are not avoiding us. I really do hope he fills his schedule and maybe in the future it will work out to play again in football. I am sorry he feels that we have wronged him.

  4. I don't know who he is talking about, but for years that is how the basketball team has done things. If they think they can beat you, they will play you. If they think they can't beat you, they won't play you. It sounds like with the new policy they won't have many basketball or baseball games either since so many people are dodging them. I wish South Pitt well on filling the schedule. I read where Cleavland is playing Alcoa, maybe they are still open.

  5. I hope that they learn from the mistake. I hate it for the family that has gone through all of this.

I guarantee you that the student that got the "benefit" from this as far as scholarship and getting to play was not very grateful for it. He embarrassed his school at many games and definitely did not show the Christian attitude or language that Grace should be promoting. And he was not such a great influence to the other kids at that school either. And way more than one family is going through this. The softball team and baseball team have no chance at appeals for their post seasons and both teams are on tract to a region appearance. The volleyball team has a chance at an appeal, but this years junior class who will be seniors next year have been working on this team since their 8th grade year where they played up... they are expected to win STATE this year! and these girls only have a faint hope that an appeal goes through. Not to mention the soccer teams and wrestling team who are incredible and will have no chance at post seasons. I know that it was meant to just "help someone out" but they could have ended up costing hard working athletes the titles that they deserve.

Sorry to rant on you post @tk20football but I just don't think that you are aware of the extent this one decision has effected people and the lack of thankfulness on the receiving end of that "gift".

I think you took my post the wrong way. I agree with everything you are saying. The student may not be grateful, I just think if his family did go through the death of his mom and now all this has happened it must have some affect on the family as well. Some might think they deserve it and they have the right to think that. But I know it must be hard for them to see how taking money to go to school now hurts so many people. Maybe they are not bothered, but I sure would be if I caused all that has been caused. All that to say agree with you and I do understand the extent of what this has caused. Have a great day and very good insight. I can tell you care about the kids who will miss out on post season play.

  6. I don't have a problem with Humboldt's draw this year...I think Clarksville has the best team in the tourney this year outside of Humboldt (remains to be seen if they are better)...I, along with all the other Humboldt fans, had a huge problem with our draw last year for the simple fact that Humboldt and Manassas were BY FAR the two best teams in the state in single A...HBT fans were complaining about this the Saturday before the game ever took place, not after...Last year, Manassas beats Humboldt on a three point shot at the buzzer in a game Humboldt gave to Manassas due to horrible free throw shooting...Now, look at what Manassas did the rest of the tournament...Two blowouts...There's no question the two best teams got matched up in the first round...A seeding system based off of the state AP Polls would work best in my opinion...Also don't allow teams from the same region to play each other in first round...Yes, there would be some complaining about seeds but that's much better than random draws potentially placing the two best teams (regardless of class) in a first round matchup..

The AP poll is not a good way to decide because not all regions are represented. Besides many of those voters do not know details about the teams they are voting on. Example: In 2005 Grace Academy Football started the season 4-o as a 1st year football program and were ranked in the top 5 in the state. They lost bad to Whitwell and fell to 4-1 and were still ranked in the top 10. AP is not the best way to decide.

  7. I am from W. TN, so I'm not sure about all of this. But, I have heard that there is a big guy, like 6'10," who plays for Tyner Academy? Or, something like that? I have heard that Georgia and other D-1 schools are after him. Can yall tell me his name, and is it Tyner Academy? or something else?

Read any page on this thread and you will see his name. The whole thread is almost about him.

  8. What do you mean the game is on Thursday at 4? Your joking. Grider would not play a game at 4 on Thursday. I have a doctors appointment in Chattanooga on Thursday afternoon. I hope you are joking about Grider playing a game at 4. Grider is smarter than that. He would not let our boys play a game that quick without them having alot of time to get ready to play the game this week. Let me ask you a question? If he is playing this game on Thursday at 4 he will not get a good crowd at this game. Most people are still at work at 4 oclock. You think Im joking but Im not. I just dont think Grider would do that and change the game to that early. I am going to call Murphy in the morning and ask him if he knows anything about the game being changed. I hope your joking about him playing a game at 4. He will not have a homefield advantage if he does that. The boys need to have alot of fans at the game to help them have homefield advantage in the game. Let me ask you a question. Can someone just ask Grider to play the game on Thursday and keep it at regular time so we can all come and watch the boys play.

I can confirm what he is saying is true. Grace has agreed to move the game to Thursday 5 eastern 4 central. Vic called and asked if they would be willing for several reasons and Grace agreed to do it. As far as Grace Knoxville South Pitt should be fine. They have a good team, but they did not seem to be the same caliber as South Pitt. We played them very early and had 200 yards passing on them. We have not played that well lately, but I would think South Pitt could easily get more than that against Grace Knoxville.

  9. This one will be ugly from the opening whistle. Grace wont be able to stop SP's jv. Could really really get out of hand. 77-0 :thumb:

77 would make me feel much better...I saw SP lose last night and Tennessee choke just now...Can not wait for Dec. 4th

I know you guys (SP) are destined for the finals. I'm looking forward to the chance to play you guys in the semis, providing we make it that far (nothing is certain). As far as I know, if we make it that far, you guys will have to make the trip to the REAL Grace to make it to the finals.

I feel for our Grace brothers, I hear they are down and the program is in jeopardy (unfortunate). I know for a fact you don't want to play them in basketball, they beat us last year in the quarters.

Good luck South Pitt and Grace. Hopefully see you pirates in Knoxville in November. It will be good for our program to see your crowd! And we hope a good football game will break out!

Grace is struggling but the program is not in jeopardy. Not sure where you heard that. South Pitt has a great program and will do well in the playoffs. Grace will just have to go out and do there best against a great team.

  10. Talked to Coach Dinger as LV players, fans, umpires, media, and even Grace Academy fans were waiting for the Eagles to show up and he said he had talked to the Grace coach the day before and the game was to be played on Monday evening at 6pm. I believe Grace sgould have handled the situation better and not left LV to sit and wonder for a few hours. I also think that Grace should have to pay the umpire AND pay LV back any lost revenue.

Grace has already offered to do everything they need too. As far as handling the situation better, Grace would love to not have lost one of their students and have to be planning visitation and a funeral. I won't go into all the behind the scenes details of what happened, but to get on here and say what you are saying without knowing fully what you are talking about and to show no respect to what these kids are going through makes you look bad. Please find out the whole story before you start making comments that are trying to make Grace look bad. We all love baseball, but these kids at Grace needed to get through today before they worried about something that is not nearly important than someone's life. I am glad things got worked out and hope that both teams play well.

  11. Old Pirate knows the skill of cage rattling.

gomocs I have a fine life, with a fine gf, but your right I should be at work but I have this thing called Strep Throat, and 102 fever ever heard of it? I'm glad we are on the same mission to mess with people, maybe we will meet again.

What sport did you play and beat Grace all four years?

  12. Old Pirate heard of the specifics but unsure as to all. Rumor was 1 from Central, 1 from Hixon and 1 or 2 from other programs? Understand OP is limited here but will attempt to gather additional info. Point of OP's post is us pblic schools have a tuff time competeing with the privates and the Chatt privates have a much better avenue to get the best atheletes from public schools. Chatt public school system has had trouble for years. Baseball at privates is strong also with summer league baseball around Chatt and kids being contacted about going to the local privates. Chatt as a whole is kinda like going to the unknown blackberry patch and hand picking the biggest and best.

Question Indian, can you remember 3 transfers coming to SC that collectively can play? Those Jasper folks should consider themselves lucky.

As OP stated in an earlier post a small community sometimes are afforded a great bunch of kids as the case prior to all the transfers that scattered the group. Most all new the group would be a serious contenders while they were in elementary in all sports. OP says last years seniors, this years seniors and next years seniors would have been the best group collectively ever the walk the halls of SP.

Most of the kids on the basketball roster have been at Grace since Elementary school. There are a few since middle school, and then 3 that have only been there for just high school. Out of those three only one of them this is his first year at Grace. One of those two came from a small christian school and the other from Temple and he is only playing jv. The other as stated correctly is from Central, but this is his second year and he had to sit out his junior year. So if there is these new transfers that are being talked about around the water cooler it would nice to know who they are.

  13. Grace beat Smith Co. 78-54 and Boyd 71-22. Yes, that is only two games, but that isn't too bad when you have a fairly new line up and some other new players. Usually takes some time playing with eachother to get in the grove and they seem to be doing well together. Hopefully it's a sign of a great season.

They actually one another game the same day as Smith Co. I don't know score or team name.
