  1. You are correct that players do come and go,but you must also admit that you have had run of really good players. I think we could say that the success of the program recruits itself. Central Bobcat

NOW, stick to that boobcat. SUCCESS recruits...not coaches, parents, school officials, folks living in the area, boosters, aliens from your planet, etc.

    I stand 100% by your statement...success recruits.

  2. Oooo...pretty players? Stars, is your alter ego Murvul Gal creepin out?

I didn't read the other 4 pages of this thread, but I'm glad to see a quality individual like Coach Quarles can spark this much debate and conversation.

It's good that a christian man such as Coach Quarles sticks firm in the frontal lobe of all your minds. That's a credt to Coach Q.

It's a shame that the other schools in the county don't have as much to discuss in the same regard.

  3. Those 96 and 97 teams were tough. The 97 team could probably play with any team in the history of TSSAA. They were big and fast.

I didn't know coach, but from what I've read he has been the founding father of success for the Pearl Cohn footbal team and a very positive role model.

Hate to see him go over budgetqary issues...I know there's more to it than that, but only being allowed $10 grand each year is a difficult way to run a successful program.

Good luck to coach Fitzgerald in his future endeavors and with his many charitable associations. :)

  4. Why hasnt maryville gone outside the region or the county to play teams Like MBA, McCallie, Oak ridge(they do scrimmage them), and other teams like that? They always seem to just play the 3 other blount county teams and their region. Itd be cool to see Maryville to play an MBA, Brentwood Academey, McCallie, or somone like that.

How About a BA-Maryville game with a combined 18 state championship between them both? I think Maryville should jump out of blount county(i know Alcoa is good) but play somone else. Test the waters?

You'll see MHS do that more as the year 2009 roles around...a year all 5A teams dread...

I wish the Rebs would drop the county games and play the oak ridges, riverdales, etc as well. :thumb:

  5. Plug and play guys...that's what GQ does best.

There's a good chance Maryville will actually be BETTER at many positions next season. This senior class will be missed of course, but many of them will be replaced pretty well.

Alcoa will do very well again next year as well. They might even be better at QB next season. No offense meant to Joei. Cobb just brings more to the table all around.

  6. The Associated Press has decided to not have an All State team this year...this per their Brentwood office.

The Tennessee Sports Writers Asscoiation (TSWA) All state teams are released the week of Dec. 19th. The teams will be released to members of the TSWA first, to use as they see fit (reprint etc).

Jimmy Hyams is a member of the TSWA, for instance. A couple of the Knoxville News Sentinel guys are too. There are also a couple of guys from the Commercial Appeal and the Tennessean on the selection committee.

Long story short, that means all of the outlets above will have the all teams next week.

  7. Congrats to the Rebs on another Gold Ball. The question now is when will Maryville step up to 5A to see if they can win a gold ball at the highest level. They got nothing left to prove in 4a.

Good to see you and Glenn LaFollette have lots in common Gerry Bear. You should write for the Daily Times too..

  8. Congrats to the Wildcats on a great season. You just came up a lil short at the end and weren't looking for anybody on the Rebel sidelines to make a TD pass...no one was for that matter.

CONGRATS TO THE RED REBELS!! You did it again boys and you never cease to amaze me!! I'm very proud!! :thumb:
