  1.

Nope. Roddy was 119 last year.

MB1, as you know rankings are for show, but they can be a great motivator for those that are being passed up. While some have been noticed, some that have done very well have gone un-noticed, apparently. By the way, I really don't have a problem with that. Had the same situation happen a couple years back with Driggers. It worked out pretty good then, and I'm hoping the same will happen this year! We'll see in a few weeks! Always a few surprises at region individuals. Suspect this year won't be any different.

Ok, so Roddy was 119 and Duguay was 125, Roddy made state didn't he.

  2. I don't think roddy will wrestle 112. Last year he wrestled 119 @ region, and every time i've seen him this year he's wrestled 119.

I thought roddy was 125 last year, if he wasn't, who was for kingston, because I remember talking to kingstons 125.

  3. Just to set the record straight.

Roddy is currently out with a shoulder injury and will possibly miss the rest of the season. If he were to make it back for regionals he would be at 119, where he has been all season.

Joslin is currently out with a neck injury and will possibly miss the rest of the season. If he is able to return for regionals, which I doubt, he won't be at 100%, maybe 75% at best. With that being said, he'll have a tough time repeating this year, especially with Hall and Gratz at 171. What a tough weight class!

Based on some of these rankings, apparently Kingston has a few that are "flying under the radar"! Thanks for the extra motivation. :thumb:

He was 125 last year rthough right???

  4. Lively is not 135 he was last year, now he serves our country in the armed forces with his brother, Dailey GB also graduated I believe, at least I haven't seen him or heard about him this year. Roddy was 125 last year so I doubt he is 112 this year, I believe he was 125 this year.

  5. At 135, is Lively at Greenback, it must be a different one because the ones Iknew graduated last year.

Also, Roddy is 125 or 30, he was 25 last year, and Daley from Greenback is gone also.

  6. Is sluder in 8th grade or is that a different kid. Iknow its legal since GB is k-12. I had heard they had an 8th grader on the team but I wasn't sure who it was. Did GB 103 finish 4th at the Fendetti Brawls or was that someone else.

  7. He wrestled Tyler Lowe and won by pin. BTW, Alcoa had some good aggressive wrestlers. The score looks lopsided but there was some good wrestling there. Is the team young? The 152, Logan Gilley, hit a great single leg right at the whistle. The Greenback guys also wrestled with a ton of heart and passion. There were not a lot of :10 pins by anybody in the gym.

Inexperience sums them up best. The team is extremely young. The program is in year 5, and I wrestled four of those. Only three wrestlers have wrestled all 4 years for Alcoa, me and the 2 thompson brothers. Logan is a fast improving wrestler. This is his 2nd year and I have worked with him on shots as our coach last year did not emphasize it. I did not get to see the match against Science Hill. They are young but they have aggression, I guess thats what it may take. I coach the AAU team for Alcoa on the middle school level, and I emphasize aggressivness, since that is the difference between high school level and college which I am now in. I am proud of them but they need polishing. Blackford has great potential, I did not see his match, do you know the score before he was pinned.

  8. Bo's on the alpha master sheet, his name is misspelled (USANI) and his first name is David (like his dad). Blackford bumped up and wrestled Damien Buchanan. Damien pinned Blackford in 3:34.

I figured it would be something like that. A quality wrestler like Usary would not risk his eligiblility or anything over something that silly. I wish they would have wrestled. Bo is a good wrestler, did he wrestle anyone from Alcoa that night.

  9.

Did Blackford (Alcoa) and Bo wrestle?

No, they did not. Something about Bo was not on the Alpha sheet for weight certification so Blackford bumped up and I believe lost. I know nothing further about the speculations. I say wrestle and see what happens. Apparently SH may have had a few un certified, and Alcoa does too, they just didn't let theirs wrestle. This is just what I heard. Who knows.

  10. I must say, the tournament in general ran well but the refs were awful! I have never seen so many kids be put in dangerous positions. I seen kids heads getting yanked around and no calls, arms being held back in illegal positions and legs, ankles. One ref standing in the middle of the mat blowing his whistle instead of protecting the kids from winding up in the stands. Get your butt over there and protect these kids!! Congrats to Soddy and Clarksville. Outstanding effort and outstanding wrestling!

I think you meant "Refereeing", gosh that doesn't look right either. Lets just say officiating. I agree they should be on top of the kids and stay close. Lets not insult the officials too much, they have a tough job, but it is their job to keep kids safe.

  11. That's the disadvantage of not being a full time teacher at the school. Our coach use to pull them out of the halls and get them on the mat.

The question the wrestling coach is known for "Who are you, how much do you weigh, and when will you be at wrestling practice?". I have asked that many times when I was in high school. As a middle school AAU coach I encourage the kids to ask their friends that question. On Alcoas AAU team we have kids from 65 to 141 lbs, but that is it. They are all bunched up. I keep encouraging the kids to recruit.

  12.

Last year we forfeited 112 and Hwt. This year, early, it looked as though we would have every weight class filled, but because of kids not following team rules, and kids quitting for various reasons, that wasn't the case. My 125 has been out with a shoulder injury, but will be back in full swing by the first of the year. And, supposedly, I have a new 112 coming to practice today. After the first of the year, minus any further injuries, I'll be giving up forfeits at 103 and Hwt.

Who is your 125, I think I remember him, if he is the same as last year. Is it Roddy, if so, I hate to hear that for him. He is a great guy. I sympathize with shoulder injuries, I am out for the rest of the season with a seperated shoulder most likly. At least it does not appear to need surgery. I hope your 125 heals quick and stays healthy, injuries are a pain during a season. Last year I wrestled the majority of the year with my ribs wrapped up due to bruising and fractures on the bone. Along with numerous knee/shoulder problems.

  13.

I appreciate the vote of confidence, but, when you are giving up 24 points before the dual starts due to forfeits, beating an already tough Seymour, Catholic, and Pigeon Forge is near to impossible. I look for Pigeon Forge to sneak in there. Coach Foreman has done an outstanding job with his team, as has Coach McCroskey, Coach B. But, Pigeon Forge is being very quiet about their business. Sectional duals should be very good this year.

Does Pigeonforge have a full lineup, I don't know about this year but they did not last year, and I fiure that Catholic will have a full tough team. In the long run I think it will be Catholic winning over Seymour by a few. I just figured that Kingston would put up a great fight, I am sure they will. I did not know Kingston had so many forfeits, has it been like that every year.

  14. Does any one have any predictions who will make it to the small school sectional duals?

Kingston and Seymour should be strong, Greenback I am not sure of, but I believe they are down from last year. Alcoa is rebuilding after losing numerous starters due to loss of interest. I look to see Kingston, Seymour, and Catholic battling it out for first this year.

  15. I wrestled four years and had what I thought were tough opponents. Then I went to college. The few matches I have wrestled collegiatly were more intense than any opponent in four years. The intensity is a different level, and so are the skills. Feeder programs are the way to go. I now coach an AAU team that is just in its first phase. We are trying to build on basics so that the kids know the basics when they enter high school. Also, in TN the good wrestlers more than likly came from a middle school or even elementary school program. In college the wrestlers from MI, VA, and FL are more than most TN boys will ever see. I agree that it is our job to find tougher matches for our wrestlers and teams.

  16. Wow, a freshman! Where did this kid come from? Was he already in their AAU program? When the Football players come out they may be the new force in Region 2.

Why haven't I seen anything in the paper or CoachT of Farragut or Karns?

He was in the AAU program, I don't know how long. I heard about him last year and people said he was good. He seems to be a good technician from his feet. I believe Maryville is going to turn some heads this year. I am not sure about William Blount, and I have heard Farragut has been keeping there matches further away. I don't know that for a fact. They were late to turn in their schedule if I heard right, its like no one knew who they would face and where they would be. Karns kids had a decent showing at the Karns pre season if I remember correctly. Correct me if I am wrong, but Harless lost to the kid from South Doyle.

  17. i think sherbakoff made 119 and ridenour went 125 and then sherbakoff bumped up.

I figured that Sherbakoff weighed less. The ridenour kid seems to be tough, especially for a freshman. Maryville seems really talented this year. Does anyone know the results of the Kingston/Alcoa/South Doyle/Heritage matches. I heard that Geren lost but I don't what happened during the match.

  18. blake lost to sherbakoff 4 to 1 but there were some questionable takedowns that could have been stale mates. so depending on the ref it could have been a closer match.

Still, thats an impressive showing for a freshman, especially against a wrestler like sherbakoff. I guess by questionable you mean no control yet.

  19. anyone have details on the Maryville, WB, Catholic, Webb, meet?

MasterBlaster 1, Catholic is in the "small" school division. They will be tough to beat along with Seymour and Pigeon Forge. Coach B. & Coach V. have done a good job getting kids out and are able to fill all weight classes. As you know, just being able to fill every class is a big advantage, especially in the "small" division. Looks to be an interesting season!

I'd like to know the results also. I believe Ridenour was to wrestle Sherbakoff, that should have been a good match.

  20. Alcoa06 what are you a wrestler I mean cmon no other sport at alcoa is even close to football, basketball is second but a distant second.

Easy Rocket, what wrestling got to do with it. Alcoa06 is just someone causing trouble, he may not even play sports.
