Agree with alot of you said, however, at home, historically, were pretty tough to beat at home in a close game.

My predicition would change if DB can only score 17 on the young Pat defense. DB will have a long trip home if they only score 17. We are young, but we are very tough. In a close game at home, Pats win by a field goal.

Anywho Im about to head back to Jeff Co today, its lookin slightly cloudy this morning in beautiful Johnson City, hope it doesnt rain in Dumplin Valley tonite.

Hopefully the DB offense doesnt put up 350+ yards like Art said they were going to. I think we have a better chance trading punches with DB than trying to hold on to a close one.
Everybody get there safe.
If we give up 350 yards, we are in big trouble. Especially if Art knows what he's talking about when he says DB has a very good defense, the Pats are in for a long night.
I make my prediction with a heavy heart. I would rather beat DB than anyone else including MO West.

You make some good points, but the rules are the rules. The kicker can not be run into, period. He was, it does not matter if he limped off or was faking it. The penality was not on Smith, but most likely a player or perhaps a fan. Some Refs have RABBIT EARS if ya know what I mean. The simple fact is the East captain was not allowed to make a decision on the penality. Coach Smith wanted to go for two from the 1.5 yard line and either win or lose. The ref said some player for East declined the penality, but he had NO IDEA which player it was, a pitiful excuse, but then the quality of officials was not particularly good.
Don't know why you think Jeff should have won by two TD's , both teams made lots of mistakes. IF is a big word, but East can not continue to turn the ball over four or five times a game and beat a good team. I am not knocking Ramsey either at least a couple of his picks bounced off his receivers, but the interceptions still go down to the QB, not quite fair, and if not for him they would have not been in the game anyway. However, to make your kicker kick a 35 yard extra point in an overtime game for celebrating after a TD is totally uncalled for and shows a lack of maturity and dicipline.
You make some good points as well. A couple of good players on each side made some plays. The ref were bad, excuse me, HORRIBLE, for both East & JC. Which shouldn't be a big suprise, the refs have been bad for the last couple of years, you pick the sport, basketball, baseball and football. Evidently, anyone with a striped shirt will be given a whistle.
I really like the way U is mixing it up on offense. I like the kicking game changes. Don't really understand not kicking the field goal at the end of the 1st half. This isn't a monday morning qb, everyone in the stands around me wanted to kick the field goal. U needs to realize what a weapon he has in our kicker. I thought after the West game he had picked up on that.
Anyone getting on Cagle's case don't know him. He's a great guy and JCHS is lucky to have him in any capacity. We need more "Cagle types" at JCHS.

Congratulations to the Pats. Same as last week, great offensive game plan. Good offensive line execution. Liked the kick-off game last night. I wonder why? Defense still struggling, we can't give up over 100 yards rushing in the first half and expect to win alot of games. Not to be a buzz kill, but take out the long pass and kick-off going out of bounds on the 2 and we have a completely different game. I don't think CC would have been going for it on fourth down had they not been behind by 14. Also, we had way too many penalties last night. Before you start, I know the ref's were horrible. However, that needs to be addressed.

I thought the offensive line looked its best for the year. We are not strong enough to line up and run it straight ahead - but we can - if we mix in some mis-direction, option and roll out passing. The statue of liberty play was awesome and it allowed our line to use its speed and use a pulling guard.
Its hard for a RB to be too patient when the holes haven't been very big for most of the year. McFall is learning and he will get better. He knows this isn't middle school after being hit like he was Friday night. DO YOU THING SHIVY WOULD HAVE GOTTEN MANY MORE YARDS ?
I was pleased with the offense ....especially the line.......now the defensive line is another story...
Yes, Shivy would have a lot more yards. I agree completely with you statement that "mixing it up" will provide more opportunities for whoever is carrying the ball. I was really impressed with the play calling last week, however, Shivy didn't have that luxury last year.
What happened on the defense? I know we lost alot of last years starters and that our defense is young. I know the West offense is strong but we seemed out of place all night. I was Smoot's biggest fan last year. We looked unprepared and unmotivated. Is Smoot still in charge of the defense? Maybe he can put it together for CC, we will have fresh film.

Well the boys from JC played hard but in the end West wore us out winning 34-17. West was handed some pretty big gifts, which is something you can’t do against a good football team. The offense surprised me a little bit, I was happy to see us be somewhat balanced on offense. I think once the QB's and WR's start to gain some chemistry the passing game could become a force. Of course its hard to develop chemistry with 2 QB's splitting time. We had guys open all night but for some reason or another we weren’t able to capitalize. Defense got beat up pretty much from kickoff, Ewing ran wide to the tune of 169yds with 3TD's. Lack of size in the front 7 came back to bite us, West pretty much did whatever they wanted on the ground. Big props to the special teams, blocked a kick, long FG, 96yd kick return. Someone should mention to Coach U that the onside kick is getting to predictable, two tries, two great starting positions for West. Didn’t we open with an onside against Rhea Co last year?
Positives and negatives for the young pats
Positives
1) We found our QB last night in Long
2) Mcfall can take a hit and come back
3) Outstanding field goal kicker
4) Outstanding offensive game plan- Great play calling! Hats off coach!
Negatives
1) 0-2 on onside kicks- I was against the onside kicks last year (read previous posts) our defense is struggling way too much to give up 30 yards on the kick offs.
2) We lost containment all night long on defense.
3) Our defense looked unprepared, in general.
Is West really that good? Was West's offense good or was our defense bad? Was West defense really bad or was our offense that good.
Someone earlier was talking about how good the West linebackers played, I don't think so. In fact, the West LB's dropped three pics and had a huge personel foul.

I believe Coach U has settled on Spencer Gattlin as the starter based on the what I saw from the Farragut scrimmage. Zack Long should get some snaps as well though because he does some things better than Spencer. Jefferson Co has a WR that can make plays with Nick Sherrod, but the question is will we able to get the ball to him. Actually the question is will we try to get the ball to him. The running game has been less than spectacular in the preseason, but that won`t stop us from running the ball 90% of the time. Against good teams with good coaching that won`t work however.

Todd and Brent Collins as mentioned before were the best, the Cagle brothers were another good brother combo, as well as Jarrod and Scooter Houston.
JC, the Cagle brothers? Did you ever see those guys play? All good guys, but not on this list.
Collins brothers 2 all staters, 2 all americans
Jennings brothers & nephew 3 all staters
Quarles bothers 2 all staters ( I think)
Harrell brothers (both should have been all staters) maybe most "productive" brothers in JCHS history. They WERE the team for a couple of years. Had they been on one great teams, they would have been all americans.

Does anyone remember the Cofer brothers from the old Rule High in the 80's?
The oldest went to UT then to the Detroit Lions, the one they called Boone went to Clemson then CNC, the youngest went to UT. All very good linebackers.
What about the Mckenzie brothers from AE. Both went to UT, both went pro.

Good luck to Shivy! He will help you guys alot. In my humble opinion, he's the best back to ever play at JCHS. That's saying alot, we have had some good ones over the years, ie Jeff Jennings (vanderbilt) Ricky Upton (penn st). I would guess that JC has had between 5 & 8 1st team all state running backs, by far Shivy was the best. He's small, but opposing players have commented that it's like tackleing air. GOOD LUCK TO THE TORNADOES! I'll be following you guys this year.

Shiverdecker leaving is unreal. There will obviously be a huge deal made over this situation. One thing all of us Patriot fans need to remember is that there are still going to be kids out there every Friday night playing their hardest. Most of us don't agree with Coach U, but we can still cheer for and support the kids, no matter who's leading them on the sideline.
I totally agree. I am behind the team 100%. I intend to be at every game supporting our team.

Read....dufus.....I never sent any letter to a principal. ( you called me a hall monitor...so I simply played along with your lil slam.) I simply asked a CoachT moderator to lock the old Jeff cty thread b/c it was getting way too personal and out of line. Guess what, I wasn't the only person to report it. He instead DELETED the whole thing b/c he thought it was worse than I did. And if you read the GUIDELINES, you will see that it says that if you keep breaking the rules or step over the line...you will be REMOVED or suspended from the T. So you better follow the rules and READ them. CoachT is a COACH and he doesn't like to see coaches BASHED. And this is HIS forum, which means he is the boss.
And guess what...I pay FEDERAL taxes....so I can talk about any area in the US that I desire as long as I stay within the CoachT guidelines. And I don't care what YOU say about it. I suggest you listen to your wise father and do some serious growing up. I may defend whomever I please. It takes a real man like you to dog a coach anonymously on a forum. You don't like what Marty does, go talk to him face to face. Be a MAN.

Well maybe YOU better read them son. Because you folk are breaking them. At least I admitted that I called the principal in on the thread. I don't have to pay taxes in Jeff county to know what is right. I guess it never entered your little head that MAYBE just MAYBE you are the folk that made Shiverdecker leave. I am sure he has read all the moronic rants of you so-called fans on this board. I am sure when he is out on the street, he hears all of your suggestions for how YOU think a team should be run and exactly who should play here or there. You guys probably are in the kid's nightmares. You have him built up to be so perfect and such the SAVIOUR for JC football......did you ever think that he might just realize that they don't have the talent to get a gold ball every single year??That maybe they have a mediocre team this year? Maybe he doesn't want the pressure, the constant critiquing, or the analyzing of every single play on a national forum by folk who don't seem to know their head from their butt.....but think they are qualified. I mean you have had several coaches jump ship............look at possibly WHY no one wants to stay in your town. And NO...I don't live there and am glad of it, but it is called Freedom of Speech and I have a license to practice it.
Now consider a few things....Alcoa comes on the boards and supports their school. Their battles on here aren't with each other from the town...their battles are with Maryville folk and their opposition. There were times that they weren't good....but they stuck together and made things better. And that made them to a championship calibur team. Maybe they could write a book for you guys to show you how it is done. You know "United we stand......divided we fall..."

Third, I didn't say that you couldn't express your opinion, I said 'YOUR OPINION DIDN'T MEAN JACK TO ME".
Fourth, I do pay taxes in this county. Guess what, "YOUR OPINION STILL DON'T MEAN JACK TO ME". Your defending a coach who has placed his goals ahead of the teams. A question for 2priceless & Olandpats, do either of you pay property tax or vote in this county? That's what I thought. Therefore, as a taxpaying voter in JEFFERSON COUNTY, your opinion don't mean JACK to me. JC4life is like the rest of us JEFFERSON COUNTY CITIZENS, he wants the best for the JEFFERSON COUNTY kids and the JEFFERSON COUNTY football program. JEFFERSON COUNTY football is about the JEFFERSON COUNTY kids, not coachu. I'm not saying he should go, but we do have a problem that needs to be corrected ASAP. Maybe the administration should investigate what's going on, requireing U to fix this problem.
While were at it 2priceless, who made you our resident hall monitor? That was real cool you calling in the CoachT folks. If you find the JEFFERSON COUNTY thread to harsh or offensive, I suggest that you not read it.

A world gone mad! Has froze over yet. I'm off the boards for a couple of months and everyone is agreeing with barnyard? What's up with that? Barnyard, I wouldn't get to comfortable in your position as resident guru.
Coach U is safe. He would have to do something really bad to lose his job. Not winning games that he should or making the most of the available tallent will not cost him his job. THAT YOU CAN BET ON! Last year we had the best back in the state, had the best defense in 15 years and we don't make the playoffs in a weak district? Now because he refused to play younger players last year, we are INEXPERIENCED! Whose problem is that?
PREDICTIONS
(1) More positive than most, we go 5-5. Year end, we will say that we should have been 8-2 and a playoff contender.
(2) Shivy has avg BUT GREAT season 900-1100 yards
(3) Best Defense in District
(4) Patriots lose 8 on side kicks\ recover 5
(5) Return 20% of the punts
(6) We avg 53 yards a game passing
(7) Barnyard is made President of the Booster Club
