  1. Look I don't have a dog in this fight but I read the DNJ today. If even I can pick up some contradictions in Ms Nance's story and those of her son's simply by what she said yesterday, then I would hope an officer of the law and the superintendent could do so as well. And it looks like they did. And there is definitely some back-pedalling going on. I would give you a link, but how amazing that this one didn't end up online that defended Ferguson by clearing him and showing what Pico told the school board.

I remember an incident awhile back with 2 black players and something about a workout sheet. Coach allowed them to run the bleachers or be kicked off. One ran and is STILL on the team and one walked off on his own accord. So guess your theory busts with that one, silk. Both were given the opportunity to run to stay on the team. Maybe your nephew FORGOT to mention that? Maybe some of these ohs people can give us the names of these guys.

If the grand jury is still reviewing the case then Coach Ferg haven't been cleared. Yeah he may have the support of his superiors, but that is only because they have to do that to watch their own backs, and not open themselves up for possible legal actions.

By the way, I know more about the incident of the running than you would imagine, and you may not know the full story. If you weren't one of the kids running, you probably don't know as much about what happened with that than I do.

  2. riverdaleman, I do happen to know who oland is and he does have many cousins who play football at various schools in this area. One is at RHS ( I mean dang yall have 100 to choose from), one is a freshman at Siegel, and one at OHS on varsity. But none at Blackman, Smyrna, or Lavergne. And I wish we had the other 2 cousins with us at OHS.

And yes......this was that situation before. And like I said...if I really thought my son had been abused, first I would take him to the ER to get checked out for his rolled back eyes....and to see if there were any bruises on his body....which she didn't do. 2nd...I would take out a warrant and have said person arrested. Which she did not do. Obviously she knew about the incident that night by her own admission as a parent called her . So then he should have been taken to the ER.....but he wasn't.......now who is negligent here? a good defense lawyer would have a field day on this one....

You say she didnt take out a warrant...well what does this quote from the article mean?

The sophomore's mother said she contacted Rutherford County Sheriff's investigator David Hailey about what happened, and she's waiting for a grand jury hearing to determine if charges should be brought against the coach.

  3. I will have to say that oland is right about coach ferg, he really is good to his players, i havent ever played for him, but i know players on the team now and players that played when ferg was just an assistant coach and they all say the same thing, and like let em play said, the little things like the helmet slapping or pad hitting is just football

I guess when its not your own kid, it is just a "grab of the pads" or "just football"...

  4. I guess when its not your own kid, it is just a grab of the pads or "just football"...

  5. I really think that oland has covered most of the basics on this , but I would like to point out a few things.

First of all my son played for Coach Ferguson. Never did he exhibit any of the things that he is being accused of at any time....whether in wins or in losses. I have attended many scrimmages, football games, and practices in that time frame. In fact I have missed exactly ONE game and ONE scrimmage in the 10 yrs that Coach Ferg has been on staff. In fact, he is one of the reasons that I still support football at Oakland High School. So I feel like I can effectively ascertain the character of one Coach Ferguson. Coach Ferg is probably the most positive man I have ever known. He always has a kind word and an open door policy . In fact, maybe that may be his downfall....he cares too much for the players???

    1. Pico made his choice to play on this team. He asked for a second chance when he was removed , and he got that chance. If Ferg was SO brutal on him that day in August, why was he STILL on the team on Sept 16th? If he was so scarred and scared, he should NEVER have been able to go back. And if other players felt that excessive forse was used........they would have quit that day out of fear that the same would happen to them. Surely someone should have seen that racial, abusive personality...so why did he still have kids playing on the team? And how can a lady in an Expedition in the end zone outside of a chain link fence clearly see what is going down at the far end of the practice field anyway? And can she show me where she tool Pico to the Dr that day in August you know when his eyes were rolling back in his head? I would like to see the PROOF. If she was so bothered about his health, then she would have rushed him to the ER, right?? so does she have the documented proof ?

    2. If Pico was so dedicated to this team, he would have chosen to dress in his football uniform to escort the young lady at Homecoming. I have seen tons of players participate in Homecoming in their uniform. He CHOSE otherwise. A bit suspicious as to why this went to the news after he was booted and not before that time frame. I mean the so-called incident was in August. Because of the score...I think he should have known he would get some playing time in that game.

    3. Ferg has been cleared by three separate bodies of power. I repeat THREE. That means NOT GUILTY.

    4. If he has a history of abuse and cruelty, why has no one challenged him about it before? This is his tenth year at OHS. Surely...he would have flipped out sometime in that time span if this were something in his nature.

    5. About Cord, he attended basically no practices this summer. Ferg was getting ready to kick him off the team because that violated the team rules. His Mother came to Ferg and explained a "situation" and asked him to keep Cord on the team. He complied because he cares about Cord. Now if he is the racist that you are implying and quick to kick kids off.....wouldn't he have used that opportunity and breaking of the rules to rid the team of Cord?

To sum up......I hate that all of this has gone down. I always enjoyed watching Pico play. I think he has gotten caught up in this by an over-zealous mother who has gotten others to try to ride shot-gun with her. The folk being hurt are the players on the team. That is what is so sad...and if we were 5-0 right now......how much do you want to bet that Pico's mom would never have said a word?

But look at the timing!!!! Why wasn't this addressed in August?

Well, I have a nephew on the team who was sitting right there also...but if we are going to go by the kids that were there, then why is everyone ignoring the possible victim, who is saying he shook him and pushed him?

As for the comment about Youree running. YOU MADE MY POINT!!! Why was he given the opportunity to run, but others were kicked off? Im just not willing to believe that all of the blk kids refused an opportunity to run to stay on the team. Now you sit back and think about what you just said.

  6. and what I mean is that people act like a coach, who is always going to put up a "good guy" character in front of faculty & parents, can not do anything wrong. I don't think this is an act out of a player's parents getting mad because he does not start. but i know everyone of you would take action on a coach if your son or daughter made a very bad complaint about them(the coach). even if you found out later it was a lie, you would have done the right thing by investigating it. the faculty seems too careless of this situation. i think it will haunt them and then they will see how much a "good guy" this guy is.

First I will ask you like I asked the other poster that is taking up for the coach based on irrelevant facts...were you there to see what happened? If not, you can not say what happened. Im sure Coach Ferguson has been a positive guy for most of the 10 yrs he has been with OHS, but the question is...was he using excessive force on that day in August. This is not about what he has done the other years, its about that day. I don't care what Pico, Cord or any of the players have done...the coach is an authority figure and he need to conduct himself as such without abusing that power. Now, I will continue to say, if a woman who has nothing to gain-probably more to lose with her son being a member of the team, is willing to speak with the media and give her name, she may be considered a credible witness-unless proven otherwise.

Being around sports for most of my life, I understand why Pico and other players would stay on the team...because they want to play. Its that simple. You are talking about 15-18yr olds, they are not going to initially take a stance because of fear of loss of playing time or even loss of opportunities to further their football days past high school.

Im not going to say anymore about whether the guy is a racist or not, because I don't know. I hope he is not. But I will say that your comment about how he accepted Cord does not mean he definitely is not. The same way I said just because he has kicked a lot of blk players off the team doesn't mean he is. For racism to occur it doesn't mean it has a direct effect on every individual, there are those they may not be victims of it while others are.

  7. 2 make sure u aint sleepin?

Were you out there the day the alleged assault took place?

If not, I don't think you should say what happend on that day in August. It seems strange to me that numerous players would say it got out of hand that day, if it didn't. I wouldn't think everyone would be making that up. Also, if a guy looks as if he is falling asleep after running 12 windsprints(this is not normal) in 90 degree weather...the common sense thing would be to make sure the kid is ok, not to go and jerk him up. Also, I just don't know why a witness that you are saying is making up the assault case would be willing to put their name out there in the media if they are making false accusations.

As for whether this is a racial thing, that is probably yet to be determined...But it does look strange to outsiders if the majority, if not all of the kids being kicked off the team are blk even when you hear of wht kids gettin in trouble also.

  8. ok i think sum facts need 2 get out on this. u r seeing 1 side only. i played 4 coach ferg & there is not a racial bone in his body. he treats players like family. if anything he might treat them 2 good be-cuz he always wants to think the best of them even when they lie. i support Ferg and the whole team on this 1. i know pico as well. and here is the funny part, i bet when ferg hit his knees last nite, he prayed 4 u pico and 4 ur mom.

pico was ALREADY allowed back on this team once. if u got a 2nd chance then u should go out of ur way 2 show it is deserved , rite? well bottom line on this 1 is that pico and his mom think be-cuz he was a stud on the freshman team one year ago that he should start on varsity. well aint gonna happen.it is hard to start at tb as a soph even on a rebuildin team. he had a chance to prove himself and he hasnt been able 2. not saying that he cant , just sayin he hasnt. he was sleeping AFTER he was allowed back on the team when all the other boys ran sprints in the hot heat and could LISTEN 2 coach. momma has already tried 2 send this on 3 different levels 2 get ferg in trouble. the sro, principal, and school board cleared him of no wrong-doing. so now she wants 2 go 2 the media and look like a bigger fool than she already looks. now here is the odd part. pico gets to be in homecoming court. anybody else walks out proudly in their uniform . but not pico, he is already given a 2nd chance, but he chooses 2 wear a tux and NOT dress out with his teammates? but yet, ferg is wrong to boot him off 4 that? what other coach lets 1 of his players get by with not dressin out for homecoming? sorry, but that aint puttin ur team first and that is pico's whole problem. he is playin as an individual and not as a TEAM. then he yelps about ferg being quick 2 kick a kid off? that shows how ignorant the whole thing is. he burned his bridge real fast. i dont know any other coach that wouldnt have dun the same thing if a kid that u tried to give a second chance 2 wasnt listenin 2 u. he didnt abuse pico and he didnt assault him. momma is doin what she has been good at all her life, make excuses 4 her kid instead of disciplining him. but then what coach lets a kid get back on after kicking them off? what about daryl smith. he let him come back and daryl didnt live up 2 what was asked of him 2 be back on the team. how many chances r u supposed 2 get?

what makes me so mad is that sum of the others r jumpin on the race train 2. ther isnt any-1 that ferg hasnt tried 2 help straighten out his life than cord cowan and his momma knows it. she should be ashamed 2 be involved. cord is good enough 2 play in college, but who wants 2 touch him now? dont u guys know u just ruined any chance u have of playin at the next level? u goin 2 be labeled as trouble. let pico stand alone. go about ur business and get the focus back on the game.

2 all the boys still playin 4 the pats, i hope u go out friday and win this game 4 this team so everyone really knows who was causin u 2 lose.

  9. Umm, Juice, I couldn't understand half the things you said but I think I know what you mean. Maybe he "WENT OFF IN THA 4TH" because JNS put in their scrubnuts at the end of the game. "HE DID THING I HAVN'T EVER SEEN IN A HIGH SCHOOL GAME"..."THEN HE STOLE THA BALL AND DID A PASS THA WAS KRAZY ,,AND NEXT TRIP DOWN THA COURT SOMEONE WHEN UP FOR A SHOT AND HE SENT IT 2 HALF COURT"...You've never seen someone steal a ball and make a nice pass??? Or block a shot??? Those things are fundamental things that happen in games, it seems like they are "absolutely amazing plays" just because they were made by Jamont Gordon. If you're down by 30, and he's still trying to "DRIPPED THREW SOMEONES LEGS,, AND HE TRIED TRIED 2 THROW THA BALL OFF THA BACKBOARD 2 HIMSELF AND DUNK IT,, WHICH HE MISS JUS BY A LITTLE (I think he meant he tried to dribble through someone's legs)", that shows a player who is trying to do it all and have the glory and apparently it's not working since they are losing that bad. I don't know anything about his grades or attitude. Are his grades good enough to get to a Memphis or other D1 school like that. You've also got to figure, when he gets to college, every team he plays will be like JNS. They will be able to run, and play half-court offense. They're will be better defenders who can shut him down by themselves. I'm sure Glencliff had success playing sub-par teams, but if Jamont can't handle the defense of prime-time players, like at JNS, he won't have success later on.

"IT WAS ONE OF THA BEST GAME I SEEN IT A LONG TIME" What?? If you're a JNS Indian, I would agree with that. But if you're talking about Gordon's game, I would have to say, what?? Watching Jamont Gordon ("the best player in the state") have success against the 2nd line of a team is not what I would call a good game. And yes, the 1st team of JNS shut him down. They had at least 2 blocks on Gordon alone, one was called for a foul. His shot selection was awful, and all he could do was dribble around and pass. If he did have success against the Delk's it was because they were tired after running all over him and his team, up and down the court over and over again.

Lets please tell the truth on here. All of Jamonts stat did not come against the second team. He played 31 minutes most of there starters played 29 or 28.

  10. Humboldt[/url]' date='Mar 19 2004 - 12:26 PM'] He should've used some of those unbelievable passes to hit the other two players that would've been WIDE OPEN.

He did have 5 assist, not to mention the passes he made and his teammates missed the shots. Whats really funny is Jamont played bad and his stat line was 18pts 15rebs 5assist 2blocks and 2steals. Reginald Delk played a great game and had 22 pts 10rebs 6 assist 3blocks and 2 steals. Both are good players, but for one to have a bad game and the other have a great game the stats are comparable.

  11. I am sure that Mr. Gordon is a fine player. The station that I was listening to was very complementary of his abilities. However, when you are part of a TEAM and you are down by 20 plus points, there is absolutely no reason to bank the ball off the backboard and then try to dunk it. By the way, he missed that "look at me" shot. I will stand by my statement earlier that "there is no "I" in "TEAM"!

Glencliff was defeated by a TEAM effort last night. If you still doubt what I suggest, I have one other word for you that is the bottom line in the whole deal, SCOREBOARD!

Yes JNS had the better overall team but...the real bottom line is Jamont Gordon has offers and has received attention from very good programs represented by coaches that know a little more about talent than most people on this board, so he has a very bright future ahead of him if he continue to work hard and polish the rough edges that all high school athletes have. The funny thing about the game last night is Jamont played bad but you could still see the talent. Not many high school kids can have a bad game and still impress many.

  12. There is no doubt that Reginald Delk is the top junior in the state. Jamont just cant match up to him.

As an unbiased observer, the only thing Reginald Delk does better than Jamont is maybe his outside shot. I say maybe because I do not know how much Jamonts hand was bothering him. Not to mention Glencliff played absolutely no defense. Jamont is still the best player now and has more potential than Reginald. This is not to take anything away from Reginald, because he also is a great player with a great future ahead of him. Lets just say he is definitley the #2 junior in the state, behind Jamont.

  13. A PRETTY GOOD BOMBIN..THEY WON BY 3 OR SOMTHIN LIKE THAT..AND NOT TO COMPLAIN BUT 3 OF OUR GIRLS CAME BACK HOME WITH BLACK EYES AND NO FOULS WERE CALLED BUT THE FACT REMAINS YALL WON...BUT WE ARE IMPROVED AND U ARE NOT, I THINK...LA WOULD WIN CAUSE THERE DEFENSE IS SPECTACULAR RIGHT NOW...FULLER AND NEWMAN ARE AWESOME...BUT SLOW...AND THE WAY LA HAS BEEN BOXIN HERE LATELY I WOULD HAVE TO TAKE LA IN A BEST OF 7 SERIES...HOOOLLAAA

I should just laugh at your comment about Fuller and Newman being slow but Im not...sorry to tell you this but I have seen Newman play against Beechboard for years now and to keep this post positive I am just going to have you ask Beechboard is Newman and Fuller slow...hahahaha

  14. Last summer was almost a year ago. A team can get alot better in a year. LA looked like the best team at MTSU to me.

Its kinda hard to watch a team(LA) play against an undersized and not very quick opponents and imagine what they would do against a very quick and agressive team with decent size like Shelbyville. LA shot open shots all week against an overrated Gibson County team, and Oliver Springs was a one man show, not to mention McMinn Central was ok but overmatched size wise. Those wide open shots don't happen against Shelbyville. I just don't think LA has the athletes to play with Shelbyville. Its all about rebounding and defense. Each of you have a right to your own opinion, but it is tough to listen to those who hate Shelbyville. I am sure Shelbyville improved also.

  15. I noticed Shelbyville fans arguing at just about every call made against them. Rick's boys were up complaining just about as much as Rick himself. Especially the tallest one{don't know his name}.

The only reason you weren't up complaining is because your team was at home after losing by 40!!!

  16. I was there for all three games today. The best team on the floor today was Livingston. I think with their team speed and outside shooting they could have beat anyone in that gym today. Also, LA is the best team I have have seen in a long time at boxing out. Most of the day when McMinn shot the ball the lane had been completely cleared out by the LA girls for the easy rebound.

Didnt Shelbyville(without Fuller and Cannon) put a pretty good whipping on LA this pass summer. I couldnt imagine adding Fuller and Cannon to the equation would make Livingston better.

  17. Cait right now is the most competitive player in the state at any level which is very evident by her willingest to rebound at 5'4"1/2 ;)

Nothing against Cait because I thought she was good when I saw her play, but how do you know she is the most competitive player in the state?

  18. A few stats....

26 turnovers for White County...can't win like that

ZERO 3 pointers for White County

24% shooting from the field for White County

Newman pulled with 4:18 to go{surprised it was so early} :D

    Shelbyville quit pressing with 1:40 to go in game{might as well press the whole game}

Shelbyville still not win every game by 20+ points flemtone

Fuller and Newman will be gone next year!!! :D

Good season White County with a 22-10 record and every player but 2 will be back next year. The future looks bright with Herron and Simpson coming up from the freshmen team. :D

85 and 90 considering Shelbyville doubled the 20+ margin of victory against your team you should cut them some slack if they only win one of the future games by 10 :D

  19. Hey showtime, did you happen to read the Shelbyville paper this weekend? Is there any truth to what several sevier co players are a little mad about. It appears that the Shelbyville paper seems to think that the win agianst Heritage for like the 50th consecutive district was a fluke. If anyone saw this game thats a load of bs. Even if you think cait had an off night, sevier totally shut her down. And the sc student section totally took her off her game. If you really think this was a fluke i guess you'll see who is the fluke in two weeks.

why would Shelbyville be worried about what Sevier County is doing at this stage of the tournaments. I am a Shelbyville fan and can care less what Sevier is doing right now because it does not affect us.

  20. When are you people going to realize that "showtime" is Rick Insell's son ???? All you have to do is click on his name and read all of his previous posts where he talks about AAU along with his beloved Daddy's team. Don't fight it, buddy. It's you.

So there you have it - Rick's little boy (who is an adult I might add) is talking trash on the internet all this time and he finally gets "unmasked". Sorry, man, had to do it. I've sat here way too long and watched you blow your horn way too much. A legendary coach's son feels like he has to get on the web and talk trash to defend an already very good program. Kinda sad.

Why does it matter who Showtime is...he is still speaking the truth about Shelbyville being the team to beat!!!

  21. "We had to play 4 time state champion Jackson County and win by 51"

It was more like a 20 point game as the starters for JC were pulled at the half. Coach Insell left his in until the 4th quarter from what I understand.

I sat and watched the game and some of Jackson Counties starters were in the game in the 4th quarter...and even if they weren't the players that played in the fourth quarter still had on Jackson County uniforms, so stop making excuses!!!
