  1. I've known Rodney for a long time and know the guy can coach. If he chose to implement the same offense at Central that he did at Clinton, look out 3AAA. I got to go to a couple of Clinton's games this year and they were explosive. One of the games I went to was the Central game. There were a lot of yards put up that night. I'm sure that Clinton would hate to lose him, but it would be a great hire for Central. Central needs some structure and I'm sure Ellison would be able to deliver that and an offense that would put up some big numbers. And don't just think he's an offensive guy either. He has been a DC before too and had a pretty dang good defense as well. I don't know who else is in the running, but he should definitely be in the top 3 choices.

  2. I hope they wait til the following week to find that spark Kaz!! And then have it all the way to Cookeville!! Always a lot of respect for Oneida and their people. Even from the old Powell Valley/Oneida days. This is one of my favorite games of the year and I hope the two teams keep each other on the schedule for a long time. Good OOC rivalry.

  3. This should be an interesting match up. In the history of this series, CG has always played Oneida tough at CG. Not so much at Oneida. Oneida has probably had the tougher schedule so far so that could serve as an advantage to them. CG has looked good so far this year however, and should be ready to prove something on Friday to the visiting Indians. I expect it to be a close game, possibly even coming down to the last possession. I'll give my nod to CG, simply for the fact that they are playing at home.

  4. I actually feel pretty good about this game for CG. They suffered through a 3 game losing streak and then had the bye week. Maybe they got their heads together and will come in prepared on Friday. I know CG's defense has looked pretty bad as of late, but I've been to almost every game, and if you take away some of those big plays by opposing teams, then CG is right in every game. The inability to score as of late and turnovers is what has been hurting CG the most and their defense has had to play way too many snaps. If CG can put some points on the board and get things rolling on their side then this could be a very winnable game for the panthers. :thumb:

  5. I tend to agree with you bud. I'm not sure about CG's injury situation, so I couldn't tell you who will be back and who won't. I do know that I expect to see a good game from CG this week. They are in desparate need of a win if they want to get back in the playoff hunt. I've heard CD is pretty good this year and it's at CD so it'll definitely be a tough one. But I think CG realizes what's at stake here and come out hard. This may come down to the wire and I expect a good hard fought game. :thumb:

  6. Nice job to the buffs Friday. You guys played well. CG had some opportunities but didn't capitalize. Take away some of those big plays and it's a different game I think. You guys have a good team and Boles is a great back and I'm very glad that guy is a senior!!! CG has a much needed week off before they go to Chuckey on the 30th. Best of luck to the Buffs the rest of the way. :thumb:

  7. Thanks for the info veerman. Looking forward to the trip up to the Gap tonight. The last time I was up there was 2007 and the final was 49-14 Cumberland Gap. Hoping for a little better game than that :thumb:

I'm looking forward to a better game as well...at least I hope so. This is a big game for both teams. Have a safe trip up guys. :thumb:

  8. I will agree with you veerman there were times the qb looked a little shaky but other times he looked good . Thats a hard job to get thrown into and shine immediately . Hope you all have a great game tonight and most importantly how is the young man that was injured at south Greene ?

He's doing just fine and should be back after the open week next week. Thanks for asking and for all your prayers for our guy. :thumb:

  9. Not nearly as long as it took to bring those responsible for having the need for such an evening to justice. I know rules are rules but given the circumstances maybe discretion would have been the better part of valor for those wearing stripes that evening.

Let me clarify by saying, the 9/11 tribute was awesome and very much needed, the best part of the halftime. I just thought that if the Oneida administration knew the tribute was going to happen, which i assume they did, then modifications should have been made to the rest of the halftime activities. I understand it was homecoming, which takes forever to begin with, and I know the bands are always a big part of the halftime show, but at the same time, 20 min is not much time to squeeze all of that in. Maybe speed homecoming up, cut the band a little short, do the tribute, etc. It could have been handled better imo. I'm sure if it was 25-30 min, then the zebras wouldn't have had a problem nor would the CG coach, which I'm sure he was just aggravated at the beating his team was taking at the time. Anyway, I just wanted to point out that I am very patriotic and I think anytime we get a chance to honor those that fight and die for us we should. I didn't want to leave that impression on you fine folks in Oneida land! Best of luck to you guys the rest of the year! :thumb:

  10. How much of an indicator of what CG has was the South Greene game earlier this year? Did they play bad or just get flat out outplayed?

This was the first game without the starting qb for CG, so that obviously had an effect. I think they had 5-6 turnovers that lead to 4-5 SG tds. And to answer your second question, my answer would be a little bit of both. CG didn't play well and SG did. CG is much better than the performance they put on that night. As for tonight, I'm hoping that CG takes advantage of the fact that they are home again and will play to their capabilities because they could be a pretty good football team if they play like theyre capable. I'm still going out on a limb and picking CG in an upset! :thumb:

  11. CG has the receivers, but their starting qb has been out the past two weeks and probably will not play this week either. He got hurt in week 1, played in week 2 but not since. The two qbs they have backing him up are capable qbs and should be able to deliver the ball. I just hope our defense shows up this week or it will be a long night. If they play like they're capable of playing, this could be an entertaining game. If not, WG will win. :thumb:

  12. West Greene lost almost its whole receiving core, i dont think there was a senior last year that couldnt catch a pass minus big Rader. The play action play West Greene has ran since Coach Case has been there hasnt been ran much this year, if any. West Greene will have to learn to throw the ball against teams like Greeneville and other conference teams, and if they rely on just runnin the ball in the playoffs they wont be able to get past a team with a good defense. It may be our bread and butter but if you run the power play 15 times a game out of the same formation, teams will pick up on it. How does CG's QB and receiving core look?

  13. Can't believe its friday already. And we got some great football weather it seems. I'm feelin a defensive struggle comin on tonight...I hope!!! CG laid an egg against south greene last week and I'm hopin that they're gonna come out lookin for a little redemption this week. I look for a low scoring hard hitting "smash mouth", pun intended, football game! This is turning into a nice little rivalry and I'm lookin for this to be a dandy. :thumb:

  14. Well one of my favorite games of the year is here. Cg is playin some pretty good ball this year and i hear oneida is too. This oughta be a dandy. Cg was flat last week and it showed in the final score. Hopefully theyll come out fired up and ready to play. Theres been some big changes at cg this year on both sides of the ball. I hope cg catches yall by surprise! The defense in particular has played much better. Lookin forward to a hard hittin clean played old school football game tmr night!

  15. The CG player that was injured is ok. Turned out to be a very very very bad stinger and some possible nerve damage. From what i have heard he may be able to come back in a few weeks if everything pans out ok. Thank you from the CG nation for all of your thoughts and prayers. In the end, it's all just a game and these kids and what they are gaining from it is the real reason for high school football. Best of luck to SG the rest of the way.

  16. Well here we are in the final week of the season. It's been a long one for the Panthers. They got a nice win over Cosby last week. This one is for nothing but pride for both teams and to stay out of the cellar in the conference. CG won this game last year in a nailbiter. If they can come out and play like they did last Friday then I think they can win. If not, it could be a long night. Grainger's size up front will be a big factor. CG is just undersized on both the offensive and defensive fronts. But I feel that they may be quicker which could even things out. I see CG coming out strong and winning one for the 4 seniors on the roster. It'll be close, but I think the Panthers can close out the year on a 2 game win streak with a little mo going into next year!!!!

    CG - 28

    Grainger - 21

    in a close one!!!!

    Go Panthers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :thumb:

  17. Just like everybody we have our fans that are gonna embarass the rest of us , but he's not even a true "cosbanian" as he puts it. Only goofball transplants thats moved into cosby actually use that cosbanian term.

I was impressed with the class and sportsmanship that cg's players , coaches and fans showed at Cosby last year. Was definitley something you don't see nearly as much as you would like nowadays. I hope we can show the same class up there this year.

I see a high scoring game tomorrow night , these 2 teams like to roll up some yardage against each other dating all the way back to the ole powell valley days.

Yeah we have a few of those "fans" like that up here too. Want to bash coaches and players all the time. It's ridiculous when it's obvious to see that players and coaches alike are doing everything they can to get a win. There's just years when you gotta face reality and realize that CG is down a little this year. Accept it and go on and find positives.

I appreciate your comments toward our coaches and players. We have some fine coaches at CG. They are good coaches and good men too. They seem to always have the kids best interest at hand. We are proud of our kids too. They are usually a pretty classy bunch. And a lot of that is instilled in them by the coaches I think.

I too remember those Powell Valley days when they would play Cosby. I remember in 93 i think the OT game up at Cosby...what a thriller!!! I hope these two teams can put on that kind of show for the fans tonight! You guys be safe on the way up and I hope we can get a good game. Go Panthers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :thumb:
