  4. Suck it up buttercup. No coach on avilles staff would ever coach a kid to do anything that would remotely come close to hurting another kid. They preach do it the right way win or lose. Apparently it wasnt so obvious that it was an illegal hit or it would have been flagged. I am done with your garbage backbup your lies with facts or evidence otherwise go sit in the gym. Cry baby

Just because it's not called doesn't make it legal.  TSSAA called Robertson and told him that there were 7 different instances that a 15 yard penalty should have been called.  Not saying they are coached to do it, but it is being done.  Good luck this weekend.  Watch your knees MP

  5. I don't understand why Adamsville would have to play "dirty" to beat Riverside.  However, I know for a fact that Coach Robertson has contacted TSSAA  and sent video to them concerning the illegal blocking below the waist by the defense.  Before any one gets on here and says that the defense can't block below the waist needs to check out NFHS rule number 9-9-2.

  6.  Decatur County Riverside High School (Decaturville, TN) is seeking an assistant football coach who holds a valid Tennessee Teaching Certificate or the ability to obtain one with endorsements in World Geography and U.S. History. They are seeking to fill the position by January 5, 2015. Please send resume to Principal, Hugh Smith, hugh.smith@decaturschools.org or Athletic Director Jeff Robertson, jeff.robertson@decaturschools.org

  7. The actual call was for facegaurding on Jabriel. If you notice in the photo his hands are raised and he is not looking back at the ball. That is the rule book definition of facegaurding. Either way both teams played a tremendous game. TCA brought their A game and played very well but Riverside also was able to control the game with their running attack and hit the passes when they were needed. Congrats to RHS on their first Region Championship since 1981.

  8. QUOTE(crazy_cowboy89 @ Mar 28 2007 - 06:23 PM) 826425139[/snapback]how is ross doing this year so far, can u give me his stats so far

Ross is 2-1 with an ERA of 1.33. He has faced 90 batters and given up 16 hits and 5 walks. He has 37 strikeouts. Opponents are hitting a meager .193 against him.

Offensively, Ross is batting .333 with a .357 average with runners in scoring position. He has 5 RBI and one HR.

  9. I understand the expectations and disappointment in the season following last year's success. However, what people have to understand is that Riverside lost a good senior class last year. All the starting running backs graduated, one wide out, and 3 offensive lineman. In a program that continually swims in the shallow end of the talent pool that is a lot to replace even without the injuries suffered this season.

Injury list: 6 knees (3 require surgery), 4 ankles ( 2 broken), 2 shoulders, and 1 hand. I haven't heard any of the players or coaches making excuses for the season, they just continue to work hard to try to improve.

One positive to the season is that the underclassmen are getting a lot of experience that should pay off down the road.

Go Panthers, keep your heads up and work hard.

  10. TONIGHT AT THE WAVERLY GAME RIVERSIDE HAD THE INJURY BUG HIT AGAIN. A RIVERSIDE LINEMAN WAS TAKING BY AMBULANCE TO THE LOCAL HOSPITAL AND THEN TRANSPORTED TO NASHVILLE BECAUSE OF A HIT DURING A WAVERLY OFFENSIVE PLAY. I THINK THE GUARD FOR WAVERLY WAS PULLING AND CAUGHT HIM COMING ON THE TRAP, CRASHING INTO EACH OTHER. THE PA ANNOUNCER SAID WORD FROM THE FIELD WAS THAT HE HAD A NECK STINGER AND THEY WERE JUST TAKING PRECAUTION. FROM THE WAVERLY FAN BASE OUR THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS GO OUT TO THIS YOUNG MAN, HIS FAMILY, AND HIS TEAM. RIVERSIDE HAS BEEN DECIMATED BY INJURIES ALL YEAR LONG.

Thank you, our player was released from the Waverly ER and has returned home

he is fine and everything was precautionary due to the location of the stinger in his neck again thank you for your thoughts and prayers Waverly is a team with alot of class thank you for your concern

  11. I agree with you that the talent is definitely there. That stinks about the political side of things. I guess that goes on everywhere though. One important issue you guys might adress is having a summer program in house. This might help out with losing players to teams they play for in the summer. Seriously, think how good you guys would be in single A with the kid that went to USJ. Isn't he from the Riverside area?

Yes Gant is from Decatur County. If we had him along with our on Ross Garrett, Jay Gilbert, and Stephen McGriff we would have one of the most effective pitching staffs in the area. A summer program is something that might help, however a lot of people in our area think that you have to leave the area to be considered a good ball player. We have a lack of "publicity" in our area. Memphis and Jackson don't cover us very well and neither does Nashville. It seems that if you want any pub you had better go to one of the privates in Jackson.

  12. Congrats to Garrett on that! He's a very good pitcher! I have one question. Why doesn't somebody promote baseball over there? If I was involved with the program, I would be tired of being a feeder for other programs in athletics!! Some really good talent over there, and others that should be there. Do you agree? What's the deal?

A lot of it had to do with the coaching carosel that went on for a while. Parents didn't want their kids playing in a program that was unstable. Never knew from one year to the next who the coach was going to be, it would all depend on if a school board member's child got to play or not. You know how that goes. The stability issue hopefully has been addressed with Coach Goff. He has been here the last 3 years. He is an alumni and coached on the college level. There is a lot of young, up and coming talent that hopefully won't be influenced by past mistakes.

  13. Well, I guess mine's the blackest on this one. No idea that many people from RHS played at the next level. Perhaps narrowing it down to those that played D-1 would be more telling. Maybe I should have said how many people from Riverside lettered in baseball in college. Either way I'm sure the list would be shorter. Oh yeah, didn't Quinn play at Riverside. He was a better hitter than 95% of that list, and you forgot him. Anyway how is Riverside this year?

Yeah I'm sorry I forgot E.Q. He was one of the better defensive players to play at RHS. Not an all inclusive list, just the one's that jumped to mind. I know that Odle played at Memphis State for a while and finished at Union. Another player is Alan Maxwell. Most of our players have played locally. ( ie. JSCC, Freed, UTM, etc. ).

Riverside is doing alright this year. 4-2 record. We have one really good pitcher by the name of Ross Garrett. He tied the school record with 17 K's in a game. He did it in 6 innings

  14. I'm guessing your from Riverside by your earlier posts on here. If you played HS baseball there I would guess you noticed several glaring differences in the two levels. Namely, they play more than 20 games in college. Can you name anyone else from Riverside that has played college baseball?

In the 70's - Tracey Chandler, Tony Montgomery.

In the 80's - Joel Goff, Jeff Rhodes, Terry Odle, Kevin Wallace, myself.

In the 90's - Kevin McKenzie, Cory Hernandez

In the 00's - Ryan Duncan, John Michael Lee, On a whole different level Anthony Webster ( playing in the Texas Organization now, drafted out of high school)

Riverside plays about 30 games a year now. When I played it was about 15 games, so you are fairly accurate broad axe

  15. Ross did pitch a great game yesterday, i believe this broke their school record for strikeouts in a game, if he keeps it up he will help Riverside out alot this year

Actually it tied a record. Mike Hayes ( not the one from McKenzie) had 17 strikeouts against JCM in 1970. I don't know how many innings were played during that game.
