  1. Papa sorry you have a problem with your memory. Maybe you can get some meds. Most all scores in the tourney are below teams average. because the games mean more than a regular season game. The game was decided on the court, how you do not see that is beyond comprehension. I am sure you watched the game, but maybe you forgot. Good luck against Harpeth should be a good game.

Clemlawn, you and I would get along great, I have the feeling. Most people don't realize that the shot clock was only put into place because of MONEY, first in the pros and then in college.

High school is the only place where the game is played as it was originally intended. Four corners is part of strategy and defending is as well. Boring? Maybe. Don't get down and give the other team the opportunity to go into a stall offense. IMHO, take the dang three-point line off the court as well.

  2. This new coach at Harpeth seems to be serious and know the game. However, whats up with a Sunday scrimmage in week 1 of practice. From what i understand, they haven't even been on the field this week. How are they going to be prepared for a game? From a distance the new bleachers look nice and rumor is the field is in much better condition. But, have they spent too much time on the field and not enough time practicing on "the field". Sorry to be critical, but this seems to be pushing it. I like the new guy and I think he is going to help HHS. It just might be too much of an expectation for the team to play on a Sunday after very little practice.

Maybe you should take a closer look, get your butt out of the car and take a walk up to the rock. I believe the weather has had control of what can happen on the field. Also, wasn't the official first day of practice last Monday? Wow, I'm glad the Saturday scrimmage got called off, you would have really been perplexed with the new coach's "expectations."

And, I heard the coach told the team to be prepared for long practices and Saturday practices and they would get Sunday's off. Stick to a plan man.

Wow, I can see now you're gonna be a fun one this year, yet another unreasonable and unrealistic parent, great!

  3. I am a big fan of several of the kids and coaches at Harpeth but can't understand how they could expect to win ball games without being able to control their attitudes. Some, and by no means all, of these young men have been told their poop don't stink all their life by their parents so they just expect to walk out on the field and do things their own way rather than listen to the coaching that is being provided them. Is Doug Loope the next Vince Lombardi? No, of course not. But I can assure you that he, and several veteran coaches on his staff aren't teaching these kids to be little cry baby punks when they take the field. It was easy to see that they are talented enough to beat a team like East Robertson, but they had in the neighborhood of 6 personal foul penalties that shows a lack a discipline and understanding. Can they not see that when the penalties add up like that it can cost them the game. The problem is if the coaches try to coach and instill in these kids the fundamental things that could make these kids young men and winners on the field of play, it might be grueling or uncool and the child would likely run home to mom and dad and degrade the coach. At some point mommy and daddy need to stand behind the coach and understand that a high school coach wants their student-athletes to be as good or better than the parent does because their record is reflected by it. No coach would intentionally steer a kid in the wrong because that kid on their team is a direct reflection of the coach and his staff. Unfortunately, in that area of the world dead goats are thrown on the lawns of coaches and in other sports if a group of kids does wrong, one must be the sacraficial lamb while the other wrong doers and their parents maintain that their sweet little Johnny would never do such a thing. (hmmm hmmm, baseball team) And then the coach is to blame because the parents must find someone to blame besides their self for their poor child rearing... Or maybe the best way is to have the parents jump in on their children's business and start fights with the opposing baseball team or storm the court after a basketball coach because you don't agree with a strategic decision made. From the time Marshall Winkler and Coach Brown left, that football program has gotten what the community deserves, not the children. The kids don't realize that they are being stripped of valuable life lessons and work ethic because when the going gets tough they can just cry about it and there are no consequences. Or they can just yell at the officials or cheap shot the opposing team and pick up costly penalties and continue to struggle for success. I wish the student-athletes the very best, especially those who work hard with their nose to the ground day in and day out. Your parents should be proud and I am sure they are, but they are not as noticable because they aren't having to make excuses for you in the stands... e.g. Jacob Connatser, Zac Douglas, Andrew McWright, Travis Tice, Seagraves, etc... I'm rooting for all you guys regardless and hope when you start to turn thing around you see the correlation between hard work and positive attitudes and winning.

    Amen Brother!

    ;)

  4. How many threads are you guys going to tie up? Can we condense it to one? /blink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="blink.gif" />

I was wandering the same thing. howdoitknow calls ditka immature in one of these threads, yet he continues to type drivel in response. He is supposed to represent his school (if he's a coach or teacher) with some dignity, not happening. Both of you should grow up, or at least meet after school somewhere and duke it out, but I'm sure neither one of you has the balls to do that either.

    Slube has officially left CoachT.

Thanks CoachT. When you move to a pay to post format, I'll come back and pick up my plus membership again.

  5. Let's not get too personal here. Make your case for your MVP guy and move on. There's been a lot of Foriest bashing since the Creek Wood games. Everybody I've talked to on both sides said he wasn't involved in anything either night and I didn't see him involved. Heck, I would think CW would have thrown at him if they thought there was anything dirty going on inside the lines. It's baseball guys. Respect the game and play the game. It usually takes care of itself on the field. Nathan Foriest does have D1's looking at him and he does have pro teams looking at him. Some of this is just jealousy and high school drama. Let it go.

I hate picking MVP's and all district teams because it's just a symbolic and subjective thing anyway. A guy like Pieratt who's value is more recognized when he's NOT playing is a lot more noticeable than one of 7 guys on the championship team. A coach sees the guys from the other teams twice a year maybe three. Stats don't take into consideration the level of competition or anything else. Don't put too much into it. What are you going to do, put it on your resume'? MVP and all district is the most useless piece of information that's out there as far as I'm concerned. Baseball is the ultimate team sport.

I know it's probably going to rain all weekend and make this a moot point, but why does this district continue to ignore possible weekend gates to play baseball games during the school week. We should be playing baseball on Saturdays guys. There's money to be made for your programs out there.

Boy, get off CoachT and enjoy the meds.

  6. It's called high school sports KS. Everyone wishes they could go back to the glory days. Hey KS, it's 2009, not 2006. Yeah, you guys were good. But I am pretty sure Sycamore/Creek Wood could "hold a candle" to the apparent infamous 06 Indians.

The sad part is, you apparently have no idea as to what he was talking about. /ph34r.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="ph34r.gif" />

  7. Well done District 11 AA, I'm glad everyone made it except Waverly. Tonight we played Bolivar and it was a one-point game at half time, We held them to one point in the second quarter. They came out to start off the third and hit a three and got the crowd in it. We started trading baskets and then they got it out to about a 5-point lead and didn't look back. Very close game all the way through but we just couldn't pull it out. Hats off to whoever #3 is on their team, he hit 6 threes i believe with almost all of them 25 feet or more out from the basket. We would've won without his effort. I fully expect Creekwood to win against Bolivar as long as they play well. Good luck to both Sycamore and Harpeth I'm excited to watch that game.

I would like to thank all of the fans from Waverly who came out and supported me throughout my career, it was a great four years of basketball for me. Also, i would like to wish everyone good luck in the coming games, and I fully enjoyed playing everyone in our district, I will truly miss basketball next year.

    Sincerely, Ben Leonard (#20) /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />

Ben, it's been a pleasure getting to watch you play these past years. Best of luck in all that you do.

  8. Well PhilMeyer looks like your a Waverly fan now. Hope that is okay with you. /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" /> Seriously what do you expect you come on this board and imply that Waverly's success is luck and then imply that that their players are dirty. Where is your proof. No technicals, no ejections, no fouls called for elbows. Now what do I expect. One support the teams you like (Cheatham and Houston County-who by the way I know has battled injuries this year and still fought hard and who I wish best of luck to in their region tournament.) Two quit suggesting a team with a winning record did so with luck it just makes you look silly. Third don't make accusations you have no proof of, it just makes you sound bitter. /wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />

    Bitter and stupid.

Sorry, I'm not a Waverly fan either. I am glad they have had a good year in the district, however.

I haven't been able to get a good feel for why BB4ME is doing this. Everything we have seen from our side of the court doesn't warrant what BB4ME is saying.

Better to be thought a fool than to place your hands on the keyboard and remove all doubt. /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />

  9. Had to have been the ugliest game I have ever seen played by a Wilson coached team. I didn't see two players from Harpeth that were on the same page. Defense was just pitiful, flat-footed after close out and knees were locked when they were on the weak side. Just pitiful.

I did enjoy the CW/Waverly game. I think Creek Wood's #44 had 8 blocks, could have been more. Game was pretty tight until the middle of the 4th when CW finally opened it up.

  10. Harpeth's D is really getting it done right now. They dusted off the 2-2-1 and it was 37-8 at the half. Final 68-31. McMullin led Harpeth's scoring with 12, Dansby with 11 and Caruthers with 10 I think. The Indians go 12 of 21 from behind the arc. SC did not have an answer for Harpeth's pressure tonight.

A sock to me for not manning up and picking Wavo. I wanted to, but I thought their lack of size inside would hurt them. Definitely tough to play the same team Friday and Monday.

I'll give a thumbs up to the D as well. I really thought they executed the press well.

  11. Hey Slube... I forgot to ask tonight... what was the score of the UK-Arkansas game this weekend...

    Hey, this is a high school basketball thread, I don't need that crap here! /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />

However, we thought we'd let Mr. Meeks have his way with us before Pel out coaches Gillespie for the next couple of years, if Gillespie lasts that long. /roflolk.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflolk:" border="0" alt="roflolk.gif" />

Also, I was wearing blue tonight, so take it easy on me and my Hogs.

  12. Looks like Fairview will watch the rest of the way. Final Waverly 73 Fairview 65 in double overtime.

Congrats to the Tigers. Definitely hard to beat a team 3 times in a season.

Harpeth went off on SC. Proved beyond a shadow of a doubt that the loss in Dover was a FLUKE. I think SC only scored 8 in the first half, and they had to work their tails off to even get that.

Final Harpeth 68, SC 31. SC picked up the majority of their points in the 2nd half against the freshmen.

  13. Sorry guys, I was standing less than 10 feet from the Crowe pancake, there was nothing intentional about it, just a little out of control and physical, but NOT intentional.

I was very impressed with the way Harpeth gutted this one out, similar to the Fairview game on Tuesday.

Kudos to Zman (Crowe) for hitting those free-throws down the stretch. His meant the most at the moment. Trey missed two 1-n-1 front ends that would have put the game away. Thank goodness they finally started getting the ball in Mr. Automatic's hands.

    Going to be an interesting tournament. Go Indians! /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />

Props to Coach Taylor and the Red Hawks on an outstanding regular season and good luck to them as well from here on out.

  14. "I ran outta gas! I had a flat tire! I didn't have enough money for cab fare! My tux didn't come back from the cleaners! An old friend came in from outta town! Someone stole my car! There was an earthquake! A terrible flood! Locusts!! It wasn't my fault I swear to God!!!" (Joliet Jake/Blues Brothers)

Sorry ksgovols, I'll try to carry my weight. I'm gonna have to talk to someone other than you, however, and you know how I feel about that.

I told you a week or so after district games started, that I felt the top 4 teams could possibly split all their games with each other. I know that's not been the case, but the top 3 possibly can, I believe.

I'm still trying to get a handle on names and numbers of a couple of teams. Seems most teams are missing a key component and can't find the key to consistency.

Harpeth needs some post scoring in a bad way. I've been very impressed with Trey's leadership and hustle. Perry has been consistent. I'm glad to see that Zach's shot is falling again. I'm also impressed with the way Coach Wilson is getting his rookies some quality floor time, that will come up big down the stretch. All that doesn't go very far if you can't get more than 8 points from the blocks. Harpeth has been 6'-4 to 6'-6 across the baseline for the past 4 years or so. That goes a long way.

I'm familiar with Sycamore's team, been watching them from Jr. Pro on. They have exceeded my expectations. Probably playing the most consistent ball of the bunch, but fairly quietly in my world, haven't really heard much from them this year. Probably my odds-on favorite to take the district. They consistently have 8 or more in the scoring column. Deepest team in the district.

Creek Wood is playing good ball as well. Also a deep bench, 7-8 in the scoring column most games. I'm always impressed with the product Coach Taylor puts on the floor. Will be interesting to see how their game at Harpeth plays out.

Fairview is a little tough to figure out for me. Got potential to make noise come tournament time if they can string a couple of good performances together. Got some depth. Must wins from here on out. Can't seem to get one from the top 3 teams and isn't gonna be any easier @ Sycamore and @ Harpeth. I haven't seen them play, but will @ Harpeth.

Waverly has not lived up to my expectations. Good bunch of young men. I was most excited when the season started about this Tiger team. What I saw last year had me a believer. Shooting slumps and inconsistent play has hurt them. Lack of a post presence has taken it's toll on them as well.

SC has made things interesting with their win over Harpeth. A win over one of the other top teams would have really spiced it up, but haven't been able to pull it off. One more chance at CW.

Overall, as it's been said many times in this thread, an average district. Not as many big names right now. Most teams seam fairly young. The overall level of play will get better over the next couple of years.

Tired of typing. We'll see how things shake out over the next couple of weeks.

    /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />

  15. /popcorneater.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":popcorneater:" border="0" alt="popcorneater.gif" /> See? A little controversy goes a long way in this league.

    Yep. Hey honey, my soap's back on. /popcorneater.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":popcorneater:" border="0" alt="popcorneater.gif" />

  16. Just so much inconsistency from the Indians these days. You never know which group is going to show up. I thought the boys did some good things against Fairview, but it sounds like it was a complete no show for the Indians Friday. Girls team is the same way, never know which team is going to show up. Boys district race is wide open for everyone except Cheatham. However, the district as a whole is as weak as I can ever remember (both boys and girls). Unfortunately, there just isn't any good teams this year, boys or girls.

    Agreed Phil.

And as far as the refs go, well, I guess you should just play as if they are going to be bad and stop griping about it.

  17. I was fortunate enough to play against and with Cannon Whitby a few times. Saw many games of his. The purest shooter I have ever seen. With a 3-pt line, I truly believe he would have averaged around 50 a game easlily, probably more, but I hesitate to make that bold a statement.

His athleticism and/or defense is not what kept him off the floor at Arkansas, it was some off the court stuff.

I would definately make the drive to watch LA/Station Camp to see those two (Dunn and Jenkins) play each other. That would be quite a treat.

I got to see Corey Brewer put 50 up on Harpeth his senior season, Harpeth's Dansby had 35 in a losing effort.

I would expect a similar game with Dunn and Jenkins.

  18. You'll have to be more specific. I thought Kevin Rawlings should have been coach of the year last year taking Waverly as far as he did with a very young team. Same coach, same talent, different results so far this reason. I'm sorry. I can't see a connection to coaching right off the bat. I can see the lopsided Creekwood score because CW has much more length and a physical presence down low while Wavo is guard oriented. I heard CW went to a 2 - 3 zone which is easy to shoot your way out of if the shots are falling. If a team can beat you with a 2-3 zone and you're guard oriented, you either aren't as talented as you think or your guards are in a shooting slump. You can't coach your way out of a shooting slump. You've got to join the 1000 shot club and fix it yourself by shooting 1000 shots a day.

Coaches don't make shots fall and they don't fix shooting slumps. It's hard for me to believe that Coach Rawlings forgot everything he knew about basketball between last year and this one.

    My sentiment exactly.

    /ph34r.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="ph34r.gif" />

  19. Yeah I guess. Such as it is...... /blink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="blink.gif" />

Dang I miss the coacht Class of 06!

Yeah, I miss them too. This bunch is just irritating, nothing to "back the smack."
