1. My Vote goes to Drew Jackson with 6 solo tackles, the biggest of which came in OT when he dropped Mr. Football for a 6 yard loss putting Boyd in a serious bind.

It seemed to me to be pitty award to a team who played a close game.

2. DCA claimed its 3rd division 1A title tonight over Boyd with 31-24 overtime win. Boyd was a more worthy opponent than anticipated. They managed to take a 24-7 half time lead to locker room. The only problem, they forgot to come back out in the second half.

With only a few seconds left in the first half, Boyd manage to block a DCA field goal attempt and after realizing that it was a live ball returned it 70+ yards for a touchdown. The Boyd players gestured to the DCA fans as they left the field.

This would prove to be their last hoorah. DCA took the opening second half drive 80 yards in 4 minutes. At that point it was clear to see that we had a ballgame on our hands. Chris Wooden simply took control of the game. He rushed for 282 yards on 35 carries and demonstrated to all watching why he is the real Mr. Football. The DCA offensive line anchored by Mark Thompson (Mr. Football), Wes Pomeroy, Blake Mundy, Josh Fiedls and Josh Drummond, dominated the Boyd defense in the second half.

The game wound up tied at 24-24 when DCA was unable to convert a 24 yard field goal with seconds left in the game. Boyd won the OT toss and elected to go on defense first. DCA promptly scored on the first play with a 10 yard pass from Josh Trammel, who filled in like a pro for the injured Jim Fenwick, to Tiger Hoskins. The DCA defense then added to its TSSAA single season turnover record upping the tally to 52, when Austin Garrett intercepted Akin and spoiled Boyds hope of a repeat.

I certainly hope the critics will give us our due now. DCA out rushed a very solid Boyd team 2 to 1 on the night, and managed to all but shut down Peardons' running game. Had it not been for some big breaks for Boyd in the first half, this game would not have been this close.

I have maintained all along that no player in high school football has more heart and determination than Chris Wooden, and once again he proved me right.

To the Boyd players, congratulations on a good season. To the Wildcats of DCA,

congratulations on a magnificent season and a dynamic come from behind overtime victory, proving once again "it ain't over till its over".

No reserve, no retreat, no regret!

3. I was under the impression that football was a Team sport but i guess i was wrong, it must be a one back sport.

Obviously you did not understand my post. If ever there was a complete TEAM it is the DCA team. They have worked completely together as a single unit and one goal this entire season. My point was that Chris Wooden played the first game of the season and because he was rehabing, it was decided that his role would be limited during the regular season so he could be healthy during the post season. That decision probably cost him personally because he didn't have individual stats needed for post season honors as well as college scouting. But during this time the TEAM stepped up and just performed to an unbelievable level. When you have a back as good as him, a big part of your offense centers around him as Boyds does Matt Peardon (how well would they do if he got injured and was out?) DCA QB JimFenwick as really come around as have hi receivers and 3 other backs run the ball. But in all I would say that YES Wooden made a personal sacrifice for the good of the TEAM.

4. GO WILDCATS!!! You've had a plan and a mission all year. You have meet every undefeated team that was left in 1A and dominated.

Chris Wooden...last year you made the ultimate sacrafice to make sure your team got to the Blue Cross Bowl and we simply didn't have enough weapons left to get the job done due to Matt Meacheam getting hurt. This year you have made a huge personal sacrafice to make sure when we got to the championship, you were as close to 100% as possible. You are the best in 1A. Amazingly, your lack of playing in the regular season has made this team soooo much stronger, because everyone had to step up and be better ballplayers.

It's your time....no reserve...no retreat...no regret. DCA and Chris Wooden will not be denied.

5. It's really hard to compare teams from the east side of the bracket and teams from the west. The two rarely cross until you get to the state championship. Traditionally the west has been much stronger, and Region 5 is the the toughest region in the state (DCA and CPA are both from region 5). What seems great to the east side of the bracket may not compare with whats happening on the west side. Boyd is always a tough school, and they usually carry the eastern bracket however, almost all of the top 10 statewide in 1A were from the west.

6. i saw Wooden run all over USJ last Friday night...he spanked us...if there is a better back in 1A,someone needs to sign him now...Wooden is a BAD BOY...and hes only goin half speed...ive never seen anyone play hurt with the intensity and drive this kid has...if he was 6' 1" he would be bigtime D1..much love Wooden, and good luck...the hobock has spoken...peace!!!

AMEN Brother Hobock!!! You have spoken the truth. He is THE MAN.

7. I've seen boyd play several times this year and some of the things peardon and akins do amaze me. Akins had one of the best high school runs i've ever seen last week and peardon always seems to squirm his way through, past, around, or over defenders and then put on the after burners and take it all the way.  If he gets the corner on you DCA, he's gone. You can't stop him, you can only hope to contain him. If DCA really struggled with the option against wayne county they could have a problem with it against boyd. Akins is just as good as runner Peardon, maybe faster, but not as big.  Against FCS he had 9 carries for over 170 yards and four touchdowns. Boyd's offense has been a machine all year, i don't think they will slow down this week.

Trust me when I say that DCA is NOT FCS. Don't even go there. Thats like comparing apples to oranges.

8. Congratulations to Boyd's Matt Peardon and DCA's Mark Thompson for being named the 1A Mr. Football winners this year. Also congratulations to DCA's Chris Wooden for being named the Tennessee Titans Prep Player of The Week for his incredible performance on Friday night against USJ. (He will appear on the Jeff Fisher Show tonight at 7:00). NOW LET THE GAMES BEGIN.

9. Please don't tell me that the Boyd coach is on here defending the Mr Football awards b/c his player was nominated.  Is CoachT really the place for coaches to be at this point in the year?  Does anyone else think that's odd.  Anyway, Baldcoach, the comments by everyone on here are legit.  Mr Football is a sham this year.    Wooden is the best RB in 1A---hands down. And he should be Mr Football easily.  I like Boyd's coach defending his players but if I were him I'd be doing other stuff right now. Hint Hint.

825455828

I don't think anyone is suggesting that the Boyd running back should not be nominated...from all I have heard and seen he certainly should have been . The point being made here are that there are other players nominated every year that do play a MUCH MUCH MUCH weaker schedule than DCA, CPA and BOYD that put up big stats because they play NO ONE. Do these players ever play in the big dance? NO! Why? Because their team loses in the early rounds of playoffs the first time they play any REAL competition. Therefore, this lends the question...have these players earned the title of MR. Football or have they been promoted into it?

Of those nominated..Matt Peardon should be Mr. Football HANDS DOWN. Good luck to you.

10. The last analysis actually conflicts itself. Also it fails to realize that DCA starters only played a quarter in the FRA game (Homecoming). I also saw the CPA game. They only played a little over 3 quarters that night. The Ezell game I am told was played in a hurricane, and I'm sure they were pulled early there as well.

The DCA coaching staff is a lot more merciful than most. They are quick to pull the dogs (or cats in this case) off when they get a team down. This is something that you don't see enough of.

I don't remember Wooden playing in the FRA game and he didn't even dress against Ezell.

11. This promises to be slobber-knocking smash mouth football game! Both teams better bring the A game, or this one could get ugly. I haven't seen Boyd this year, but I've watched DCA pound more than one opponent into submission. They'll flat knock the taste out your mouth!

If you're on the squeamish side you might want to find a good B-ball game, but if a train wreck's right down your alley, you need to join me at MTSU this Friday.

My prediction.....You won't get good seat unless you get there early!

12. Just as a note...last night Chris Wooden broken the DCA rushing record held by Jeremy Lyons..1996 Mr. Football and state offensive MVP during DCA's undefeated season. Considering his very limited play during the first and middle of the regular season..thats remarkable. Nominate who you want..vote for who you want..look at stats of those with more playing time and much less competition, it is meaningless. If there is a Mr. Football in 1A Football it is Chris Wooden. The title is just that, a title and any nomination that does not include him as a candidate is not a true representation of "Mr Football". He is a complete player both offense and defense and he has a complete team that compliments him.

If memory serves me right, last year the Mr. Football winners both came from the same school in the east bracket and their team was eliminated in the first round of the play-offs. Because of their weak region, their stats were huge and that is a flaw with the Mr. Football award year after year. But you have to have something to look at and stats are about the only measure that can be used statewide. I think right now the only stat Chris Wooden is concerned with is that DCA is 14-0 and on a mission.

13. could the DCA people let me know the status of Jason Davis and Jeff Hughes?...there is a rumor going around that Jeff is TG...is this true?..how will affect your team moral?...how long was Jason Davis suspended for his uniform violation?...these are two important aspects that could affect the outcome of the game...please inform me...the hobock has inquired...PEACE!!!

825448379

Who are Jason Davis and Jeff Hughes? Whoever they are they will have no effect on Friday's game.....PEACE or whatever.

14. DCA beat Jackson Christian at the beginning of the season 28-7. USJ beat JCS 6-0 in overtime and 20-17 the other night.I saw DCA play the other night and was very impressed.USJ has got tremendous speed on defense with no player weighing over 200 lbs. I'm telling you they can flat fly and are great tacklers.Should be a great game!

825446301

When DCA played Jackson Christian, they played the worst game they have played all season. Lots of turnovers and injuries were running rampent at that time.

15. Scout, you just need to pack up and go to Jackson. This will be a great game. Again two undefeated teams both from very rich athletic programs. Both are very strong teams. I do feel the DCA Team is on a mission. They have unfinished business in Murfreesboro and they have been steering toward that goal since last Dec. Obviously USJ has a lot of weapons or they would not be in the semi-finals.

I do think by the time you get to this point in the season...throw out the common opponents and stats. Everyone is playing for their life and that can mean alot more than any statistic. This is what High School football is all about. Good Luck to both teams...Good Luck wilDCAts.

16. The fact that Wooden is even on the football field this year is only a testiment to his drive and determination. Most athletes would still be in rehab and he is playing football...very well I might say. He is the most complete back DCA has ever put on the field, barr none. Scooter would never hit you quite like Wooden will. No back DCA has ever played with the drive he does.

Good Luck to the entire Wildcat team. You are all truly amazing to watch.

17. Credit where credit's due!

Let's talk DCA football for a minute. Are you listening Murph? I'm no

guru
but I know a good football team when I see one. I made the trip to Mt. Pleasant thinking I was going to see a
rumble in the jungle
. Instead I watched the most precision dismanteling of a 12-0 football team I've ever seen. You were right about one thing.... it was loud in the jungle. I could barely hear my think over the deafening chant of DCA, DCA, DCA!

My memory's not as good as it used to be, but it seems like I remember hearing somebody predict the Tigers 35-10 over Wildcats. For those of you didn't make the trip to Mt. Pleasant (Murph) this game could have easily wound up 70-0. No wonder you left it off your

Today's Headlines
this morning.

I would like to congratulate Mt. Pleasant on a great season. In addition to being a hard hitting football team you are a class act with a great fan base.

I am curious to see who the

High School Football Guru
will pick this week. The skinny on the street has USJ by21 if this helps you any Murph. I think I'll make the trip to Jackson anyway. This might be the game to see this week. If you like, you can ride with me Murph. I'll be leaving around noon so I can get a seat, rumor has DCA will bring the house.
18. Actually StanTrott, you are correct. With the exception of #72 who is huge and #53 who is really tall (but almost on the thin side for a lineman), they are just average size players. However, they are very quick and extremely well coached technique wise. Therefore, they play HUGE and they are the key to the entire offense.

19. So what happens next year if your team doesn't win as many games as you think they should? You won't have most of the private schools to blame...so who will be your scapegoat? I have an idea..blame schools like Trousdale Co for coming back down to 1A.
