As for the Lady Rangers, no they don't have anything to hang their heads over.  They are a great bunch of kids and outstanding players.  Hats off to them!!!  Today their record should be 33-1.  I have to say that their last two games were the worst coached games I have ever seen.  Their shooters were taken out of the game (not allowed to perform to their ability) by their "coach".  If anybody remembers this was done two years ago in the Regionals.  If he'd stayed at home, they'd be leaving for State on Tuesday.

You've got to be joking about their "coach" staying at home. I've figured out something about you Ranger "fans". You're either a hero or a zero on the creek. You lose a crucial game and bam, it's the coaches fault. Heaven forbid that perhaps the team didn't play up to their potential. Oh no, that couldn't be so. It has to be the coaches fault. Yeah, let's blame him. It's so much easier to put the blame on him than to accept the fact that maybe your little betty or susie didn't have the winning game she should have. How many of you people have told him what a great job he's done this year as well as the previous years? I could probably count on one hand. Shame on you!!!!

So if you want to send him packing, well I say have at it. I'm sure that if Coach Ken becomes available, it won't be for long. Because you see, other schools would snatch him up in a second. Now that would be poetic justice. But that's just my opinion. I'm a Coach Chambers fan now and always will be. So go ahead and blast me, that's the joy of free speech.

Whether you want to admit it or not, there was another Rusty on the previous Ranger team. You may not like him and I'm sure he doesn't lose sleep over it but if you were a TRUE Ranger fan, you have to admit he was good. But obviously your one of those that think that one person has won every game for Unaka this year. Get over your animosity toward Rusty, if people want to remember him, them let them. And from your previous post, yeah McCann did get the MVP last year and everyone on the team was proud of him, including Rusty. Russ will be the first to tell you that Tyler had a better tournament than he did. But ya know, Rusty never was a ME man, it was all done for the team. Can you say that about YOUR MAN?

Coach Oliver and his daughter were very supportive of Coach Campbell. I think she has started since she was a freshman and never left the floor. I feel Coach Campbell's dismissal was not basketball related. Please dont start rumors, those young ladies are dealing with enough turmoil.

I didn't start the rumor. The issue has been skirted since she was dismissed, and that rumor started at the school. I'm sure that where ever Les goes she'll be well received. I only hope that the reason for her dismissal was a legitimate one and not just someone holding a grudge. You know, if every teacher or coach was fired for "mistakes" they've made then Hampton Elem. and the High School both would be short a few educators.

You are correct bigreddog, it is Kelly Oliver. I was making my assumptions regarding what took place in the spring with the coaching change. I too think that Coach Oliver would do a good job, I was just wondering if he would take the job if offered. Who knows what is going on, seems to be a game of musical coaches, so to speak after many years of stability.

This is a really funny post.For one no division one school is going to take a chance on a 5'11 guard who I personally saw play a numerous amount of times last year.

Dont get me wrong the kid is a good player but he had players around him last year in that state tournament to make him look like he was the greatest player to walk the floor.There is a lot more to being a good player then just having a good tournament game "example"Giles county the year before last yes the same team with Tennessee signee Tyler Smith who will prob be drafted by his sophmore year of college to the NBA did not even receive the mvp award of the state tournament a role player point guard did and he was in the same situation as tyler and I remember seeing hearing him giving all the credit to his teammates around him.

 

There is a difference between being a good player and a mediocur player.You got to know how to get your players involved in the game.Thats something that the Chambers kid could do really well last year.He knew what he had to do to help his team win a basketball game not only could he get his teammates open but he knew when he had to step it up and take over the game.He played unselfish and just went out there and had fun because he knew how to play the game of basketball. But we will see how good of a player the kid is this season when he has to try to do the work with out having those 3 seniors there to save them.

 

It takes more than 1 person to be successfull. seems like Unaka is cashing all of its chips on 1 prize this year. if its that case then tickets should be sold at the games this year saying welcome to the tyler Mccan show.Call him mvp call him whatever you want to call him but in everyone elses eyes around here the kid is stilll a role player no stars on that team comming back this year just replacements.

You're right on the money 3d...Obviously, there's several people out there who think the same thing we do. You know, you're absolutely right about the chambers kid. He wasn't a superstar but he sure could play ball. No flash, no dazzle (well maybe a few behind the back passes), but just good old fashioned basketball. He did have a knack for seeing the open players on the floor and getting them the ball. He wasn't concerned with MVP or how may have I scored but what can I do to help win this game. Mr. Tyler had better wake up and smell the coffee this year. YOU ARE NOT A ONE MAN SHOW.

Where is Chambers going to school this year?  I hope he does well in College Ball, as well as gets a good education.  I am proud that a boy like him, from our little town, is using his talent to continue his b-ball career, and get a good education.  We need more like him.  Good kid.

He's going to LMU and I agree, he is a good kid. Word has it that he really likes LMU and the coach. Basketball at that level is totally different than high school.

I was reading the post about tyler mccann for mvp and everyone was saying that tyler cant be mvp and he didnt deserve it and how he had open lay-ups. well to all you people that doubt think about this. ben rhonda for etsu plays the same kind of ball as tyler, back door cuts for open layups ten foot jumpers 8 to 10 rebounds a gmae and he plays D1 at ETSU. and saying that he is not a D1 prospect is stupid. I know for a fact that D1 wofford wants him D1 david lipscomb wants him and other D1 school are sending him letters everyday. and the last ten games of the season and into the tourniments tyler averaged 11 points and 8 rebounds as a role player. he stepped up in the state and did what he had to do. so dont take away from the hard work he put in to last season. just think about that.

I stand corrected Warrior, Is Central that good. I said that Unaka would miss Chambers, Collins and Jones but many on this board don't think so. When you have two kids that came in as freshman and played you don't replace that leadership overnight. They'll be fine because of the man sitting on the bench. Don't under estimate him as a coach. He will get the most out of his team.

 

And I don't put much stock in scrimmage games. Everyone plays.

I agree with starman. They may not realize it now but they will surely miss chambers and collins down the road. McCann got a touch of the big head last year and now he thinks he's invinceable....NOT. Yeah I'll give him credit he's a good ballplayer, but he's not as good as he thinks he is. But as with other posts, Ensor is a good coach and he'll make sure his team takes care of business when it counts. The rangers don't need flash, they need substance. But more importantly, they need heart. I don't think that this team can even come close to having the heart that Chambers, Collins and Jones had. Rusty and Cody ate, slept and breathed basketball. I heard Coach Chambers, (the girls coach) telling someone something that Rusty told him in 8th grade. They had gone to the state tournament to see someone play and Rusty said the Rangers will win the state tournament my Senior year. He as well as the other Seniors had a dream and they followed through with it. I hope this years team is just as dedicated.

I'm really going to miss watching Rusty and Cody play. Rusty was like the "floor general" giving directions and those amazing passes. And cody, he could dribble like a demon and what a great defensive player. The game just won't be the same.

Personally i would love to see a smaller school like Unaka or Cloudland play in the Arbys Classic.  It would be exciting.  And i for one agree with most on here that if teams such as Sullivan East, Daniel Boone, Tennessee High, and Elizabethon can get in then why not Cloudland or Unaka.  Heck, Cloudland beat Daniel Boone last year.  And that was with out Mark Byrd, and in one of Cloudlands worse years.  The 1A teams on any given night can beat a big part of the teams in the arbys classic.

Don't expect an answer from Coach Burns. They dropped Unaka like a hot potato from the Arbys with the only explanation that 'they had enough teams". I feel confident that Unaka with their huge fan base would have brought in more money than half the teams they had in it. Heck if we can fill up an entire side at the state then I'm sure we could pack the arbys. Maybe Burns was afraid of the competition.

i think cline and holtsclaw are the two players on unaka's team everybody is goin to have to worry about this yr., tyler is a decent player, but he's not the best player unaka has....they will be good this yr. but no state championship...

Holtsclaw's big but he's slow. He'll never make it an entire game. He lacks the drive that jones had. Sometime between now and when the season starts, someone is going to have to light a fire under holtsclaw to make him any good. Big does not necessarily mean better!!

Sugar, that gold ring and that gold ball is great. You guys got a lot of mileage out of it last year. But talent is the key word this year. You don't just automatically win one every year..you have to earn it. And I'll say it again, when you prove that you're as good as you think you are then I'll stop posting. Make a believer out of me, I love basketball and you're right I'm not one of your teammates. Donald does a great job with his team. I havent missed a Unaka game in 6 years. I watched him ride the Chambers kid from the time he was a freshman until the last point was scored in the State tournament. Chambers was the most level headed, humblest kid I"ve ever seen play.It didn't matter if he scored 30 or 3 points, he was always the same. You guys need to play as a team. Don't let your egos get in the way. Cline and McCann need to practice a little humility. Without the other 3 on your team I don't think you'll go very far.

I'm pretty sure it's the big AAA school, Knox Bearden. And to your ME post, it's all team effort, no matter what anybody from Hampton says.
