  1. For those fans looking for 3 days of great wrestling, Chattanooga will be the place to be on January 22nd, 23rd and 24th.

1-22 Bradley at Soddy (DI #1 vs #2)

1-23 Baylor at McCallie (DII #1 vs #2)

    1-24 At UTC

Bradley vs Parkview (TN #1 vs GA #1)

    UTC vs Anderson College

Following the wrestling at UTC, fans can make the short drive over to Soddy and catch the finals of the Soddy Invitational.

Ladies and Gentlemen...wrestling in Tennessee doesn't get better than this.

  2. We are looking for results of the following tournaments;

    Oooltewah Invitational

    Harpeth Invitational

    Indian Classic

Can someone please take the time and post them or post a link where they can be found???? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  3. -I hear that West will probably be at 30 for the rest of the year.

    - As far as the rankings go...They are updated almost on a daily basis but I will probably wait for another week or so to post them. Things need to sort out a little more. If you or anyone is interested in a particular weight all you have to do is ask. I'll tell you what I know.

  4. If Bradley is fortunate enough to get by Collins Hill and CBHS in the pool matches of the Cleveland Duals this weekend, it looks as if they may meet an undefeated Franklin in the finals.

    Here are the match ups:

103# Brian Reyes vs Andy Morris

112# Mike Ortiz vs Blake Tinsley

119# Charlie Warfield vs Shawn Cordell

125# Kelly Felix vs Travis Creagan

171# John Kirn vs Bryant Blackmon

189# Brad Raby vs Josh Cooper

215# Xavier Curll vs Matt Bailey

  7. Easy fellows.

We knew there were omissions and graduated seniors. We also know many of the weight classes are incorrect. Preseason rankings are just a guess.

There are a dozen situations where debate is possible. For instance Boyce and West....in my opinion West is the better wrestler. BUT Boyce beat West in the last match they wrestled plus the fact that Boyce finished 2nd in the state and West finished 4th. Should West be ranked ahead of Boyce? Certainly not.

Another point. Zeits at 125. The kid finishes 4th as a Sophomore and had a shot at winning. He was injured last year. We expect he will be back this season and basically have no clue what weight he will wrestle. It is a fact he was a very good wrestler as a Sophomore and placed in the state. Beyond that, we will see.

We do this for pleasure and to generate debate. If you have followed our rankings in the past you will find we are pretty darn accurate. Matman will do a fine job with his rankings also. There is a USA Today ranking, an AP ranking and an ESPN ranking in football. All have merit and all are entertaining to look at. Just try not to take it personal.

Thanks to all of you who are providing the useful information and constructive remarks.

    11-7-03

It’s that time of year again. Let the debate begin. Before too many of you get up in arms, these rankings are based on the weight classes from last year. The Silverbullet Rankings welcome all insight and input. Your involvement is encouraged. If you have solid knowledge of a change in a weight class please post it on this thread. We are already aware of numerous changes. All changes will be reflected in the next poll. It is worthy to note that all useless babble and criticism will be ignored.

  9. I do agree that the two best wrestlers do not always meet in the Finals but to suggest that it is part of a Master Conspiracy is a reach. It can be argued that the same thing occured in 3 or 4 other weight classes.

This happens every year and there is really no way around it. You and I may think that Edmonds and Jones were the top two at 171 but how do you prove it. You would run into the same problem we run into with this poll. For example:

    A beat B...B beat C...C beat D...therefore A is better than D.

At best it is like reading tea leaves. Come up with a good solution and I and many others will help you push it through.

  10. No one underestimated Franklin. All of the wrestlers that placed (Ortiz, Davis, Bullard, Konz, Warfield and Felix) in the State Tournament have been in and out of the rankings all year. We DID predict the second place finishes by Davis and Ortiz while both Bullard and Felix were mentioned as having a great shot to place.

We believe Konz and Warfield are very good wrestlers but we did not think they would place because of their placement in brackets. In Warfield˜s case we didn˜t think he would get by both Wells (Daniel Boone) and Henderson (Hillsboro) and regarding Konz, his win over Seaman was a surprise to us. You may call this underestimation but we believe it was more a case of overestimation of the Franklin opponents.

Many of us who follow wrestling have known for a few years that Franklin was building a quality program. The Rebels should be among the top teams in the state for the next several years. Bradley will be our Pre-Season #1 for 2004 but Franklin may very well claim that spot in 2005.

  12. We were going to wait until tomorrow morning to post our predictions because of reasons not meant for discission on this board.

But since many of you are bombarding us with E-mails, we felt it would be OK to go ahead and post the Champions and Runner-ups. So here goes. The rest will follow tomorrow.

As many of you know, this year (unlike many years) has several weight classes that are WIDE OPEN for unknown wrestlers to sneak in and claim a medal. The upsets will be numerous. Keep your program handy. You will need it. There will be plenty of "new" schools represented on the podium this year.

It is always interesting to look at draws when the brackets first come out. The best draw in the DI tournament is by far Bill Seaman - MT Juliet. Other favorable draws in DI are Bryant Blackmon - Bradley, Paul Campbell - Soddy and Daniel Crosby - Greeneville.

The DI bad draw list is long with a field as deep as this years'. There are a couple of real stinker draws. They are; Alan Aiken - Science Hill, Brandon Hodge - NCS, Will Phillips - Soddy, Joey Jeffers - East Ridge and John Edmonds - Science Hill.

Here are our picks for first and second place.......

  13. Still here-

The predictions for the DI and DII State Tournaments will be out Wednesday or Thursday.

We are fairly happy with our call on the State Duals. We nailed the DII bracket and most of the DI but Science Hill was better at certain weights than we expected.

    Our predictions will include;

Team Champion and team placings to 20th place.

    Individual Champions and medal winners.

    Matches to watch for.

    OW

    Thanks for the interest,

  14. Bigpack-

Those are two great picks but when choosing OW it comes down to 2 things:

    1-HOW the wrestler won.

    2-WHO did he beat.

    In Division II

-Dunning would have to be the favorite.

    In Division I

-The winner of the 135 class will be a contender because there should be 5 returning medalists.

-If Jennings-125 or Catlett-152 or Gibson-160 or the Jones/Edmonds-171 winner were to pin their way through the bracket, then one of those guys may win it.

-Don't forget about Crosby and Pennington at HWT. One of those guys could certainly be OW by winning a very tough class

It sure will be fun to watch

  15. Anyone who has tried to predict the Final Score of a duals match knows it can be described as difficult at best. In the State Tournament it is near impossible because of movement of wrestlers and forfeits in clinched matches. Below is our attempt at predicting the outcome of the tournament based on every wrestler being healthy and each team wrestling each other straight up with no bumping around.

In the Division I bracket we expect Bradley to win the Championship but we do not expect to actually see the lopsided scores as predicted. Just as we can look at the team lineups and see Bradley with a significant advantage, so can Coach Cobb and Coach Henry. We are sure to see many changes in both Clarksville˜s and Soddy˜s lineup when they face Bradley. These 'bumps' should narrow the score but shouldn't be enough to change the eventual outcome.

In Division II we are predicting a Father Ryan victory but we see the Finals match with McCallie as extremely close. One upset or one bit of coaching strategy may swing the match McCallie˜s way.

  16. Great points but I think you are overlooking the need to enlarge the DI field to 16 teams. Sixteen teams would preclude the use of any HS facility and still keep the tournament at 2 days.

16 teams = better wrestling = larger crowds = increased revenue
