  1. 125 is Mansons to lose. If he gets beat at the state it will be at his own hand and no one elses. He works hard, has talent and simply the best. It does not mean he can't be beat but he is the man. I would be surprised to see Dunning at 125. Perhaps he will show up at the McCallie Tournament and wrestle 125. It sure would excite me and a lot of other fans to watch a possible match between two such good wrestlers. No matter what if you are in Chattanooga this weekend you should come to the McCallie tournament there will be great wrestling in all weights no matter who weighs in where. Manson, Dunning and a sea of other talented young men will be there. good luck to all, wrestle injury free..........
  2. no i dont think so. i think he wrestled @ 125 against McEachern
  3. Dont think for a second that McCallie thought Wheeler would lose. Coleman has earned his respect but Wheeler is no light weight. Currently he has not lost at his weight.
  4. mccallie did nothing but wrestle the kids that were healthy. Cleveland is a good team and won two big matches for sure that made a big impact on the overall win. No wrestle that is worth his salt is going to back away from a match not at mccallie or any other school. But you have to keep your boys healthy. Its a long season and it is only getting started. But last night mccallie got beat by a better team on that day. Anything else is guess work. Good job to Cleveland for a big win.
  5. McCallie went to Walton knowing they were sending many wrestlers back at 2 for other comments which they did. I thought McCallie did ok against McEachern considering they wrestled up their 119, and 160 and were forced to wrestle up their 189 to 215 because of a jv freshman checking in early which forced the freshman to stay at 189. So they gave up 103, 119, and the mistake in check in also cost them two additional matches. Their 103 also wrestled 112 during that match. they did not bring a 103 and wrestled different kids in several weights. All things considered I thought they did well against McEachern giving so much up at the start. After McEachern they gave up 24 points from the start and one match was stopped. With all that said their were many good teams in both pools and the wrestling was first rate to watch. Their will be a number of great wrestlers coming to the McCallie Tournment out of Ga. Walton runs a good Tournament. As for injuries better safe than sorry with the season getting started. While McCallie always likes to have a good showing there was a lot of testing and providing some much needed experience to a number of boys.
  6. i think they won 112, and 170. 103 was forfited by mccallie but i am not sure blackman had a 103 either. i know mccallie did not bring a 103. So they won 2 matchs over mccallie.
  7. The Owls wrestled some good matchs last night against McCallie. They were in many of the matchs even though they lost. McCallie was playing with their line up and did not wrestle a 103, played at 112, and lost a match at 130. With the coaching that the Owls have and the kids they have it appears they will get better with ever match. I would also expect McCallie to wrestle well enough to win in the early season while sorting out the line up.
  8. Sometimes when you are so involed in a school and a program you can't see the forest for the trees. I dont feel I am bias. I am a fan of wrestling and I know the sport and what generally is the norm at most matches. Perhaps at the next match you could sit in the opponents stands and watch and listen. The Denver Broncos line is known for crack back blocks thoughout the league, while legal, poor form and Oakland is known to be dirty. However, they both have great coaches and tradition. I respect Baylors winning record year after year. When you are a winner you are held to a higher standard. No question Baylor has talent and lots of it. With that said the question for Baylor is what would " the Major" do? As I have heard he would kick your a** and then reach his hand down pick you up and do it again. Go luck, and looking forward to watching...
  9. I would have to agree that while Baylor does not go to Nashville to wrestle Duals or the Ryan Tournament they do wrestle some very good teams. You don't see the Memphis teams traveling to Chattanoga or Chattanooga to Memphis. But for the most part the McCallie Tournament will have most if not all of the above teams in it. Even though they have won and show signs of another winning year they cannot deny the fact that most of their wrestler are taught to wrestle the edges and hold onto leads. Its painful to watch and I have to say that you dont hear people pointing to Ryan or McCallie as stallers or wrestling the edges, frankly I don't hear it about any other school. You can have a winning program and still have very little class. I have seen their coachs not shake wrestlers hands at Baylor/McCallie matches and at others and think that shows no class at all. Win, lose or draw where I am from you stick out your hand, its a sign of respect. All the kids have earned that.
  10. I think he did get second to Smith. Waddel is a very good wrestler I would guess he will be highly ranked and have as good of a chance as anyone to win state. Spike1
  11. I think every school is different with its own set of standards and history. At the school where my son attends there has been no formal statement to come or stay away but I have noticed few parent come to watch unless it is at the end of pratice and they are providing rides or have questions. Our coachs are very careful to who provides instruction because they have a proven method that wins. My son would kill me if I arrived and watch a whole pratice. But that is my son. I have found even though I have been in the sport my place in "my family" is in the stands, supporting his wins and picking up the mess if and when he loses. Some schools need the help/coaching because of skill, budgets and so on. The thing that sticks out to me is listen, watch what the culture is and simply fit in. If you are new ie freshmen or new to the school watch what the best wrestlers parents do. If they are there perhaps you should be, if they are not prehaps ask or wait. Spike1
  12. I have seen Dunning many times and there is no question he is very good; in fact one of the very best in Tenn. no matter what weight you are reviewing. He is smooth, powerful and very patient. Dont shoot the messanger I am only asking a question based on what I have heard.
  13. I understand that Manson from Baylor is wrestling at 125 this year. I also heard Dunning say last year he would not wrestle under 125 his senior year. But on some of the posting he is ranked the top 119. Is he avoiding Manson this year? It seems only fitting for the two of them to fight it out one last time before he graduates. I hope they are both at 125. Does anybody really know Dunnings weight class for sure?
