I agree with you Raider76. Zach Goss is one of - if not the - classiest wreslters my son has ever faced. I only wished I had been able to congratulate him after the match. As far as the takedown goes, Mike hit a very nice throw-by finishing with a side headlock. This has been a moved that has worked for him for many years. It was a good call. Mike had the same move on Zach when they wrestled at Baylor but Zach had control of Mike's leg at the end of the match and the ref made the right call then also - no takedown. This time there was no doubt over who had control as Mike had Zach's left arm completely off the mat and had inside hip control. They even show this picture in the rule book if you want to take the time to look it up.
Congratulations Mike -- no one gave you a chance over Cash or Goss but you proved them all wrong. And we are just as proud of your National Merit Finalist award.

well i have to admit that after taking a half day off work and then driving to chatt-town early to get a good spot to see the match, i was somewhat surprised at what i witnessed. after reading the many posts all of you guys had made about the BJ/WY match up i was expecting the match to be much closer than it was. will young, whom i have never seen wrestle before, did put up a good fight but just wasn't quick enough nor strong enough to ever really have a second of control in the match. there is something that is very special about that ben johnson kid. very few have the natural talent and mentality that he possesses. anyone that can leave the mat without being pinned by this kid should be very proud of themself.
there were several matches that did however have me on the edge of my seat. sorry i can't remember the names or weights but there sure was a ton of talent on both sides of the mat. the 2nd match of the evening was one that stands out.
i have to add that i am really glad i did take the half day since the Ben johnson-will young match was first. congrads to ben johnson and the baylor school.

Wow - What happened at 140? Pavlou is a good wrestler but he must have caught Ulric in a mistake.

Bamawrestler,
I am glad to see that Baylor will be at Scottsboro on Saturday because there should be some very exciting matches at 152 and 160. I do hope Grissom comes also because if they do then 160 would be the weight class to watch.
160 - Kyle Cuthberson, Dan Waddell, Brendan Prince
152 - Chase Cuthberson vs. Reed Doster
Wish I could be there!

i thought Ron Lofton from Parkview should have got OW. He put on a show, in a tuff weight class.
Rabbit - I agree with you. Lofton put on a show. Other than Bell taking him into OT in the third round, he dominated in one of the toughest weight classes.

Mr. Manson wrestled at 130 in NC and placed second. Bell also wrestled at 130 so I wouldn't say that either one was ducking the other.
Jed Hussein went at 125. Hussein certified at 119 and both Manson and Bell certified at 125. Bell is a three time state qualifier from Alabama and placed third last year in class 6A at 112 lbs. Manson will decide where Hussein and Bell wrestle this year -- he would never duck anyone especially his teammates. Mr. Manson is a young man with a lot of class and drive. I look forward to watching him and all of the Tennessee wrestlers this year. thumb

Let me jump on this bandwagon. Way to go Ulric we are very proud of you. I hope you could hear the Big Red pulling for you also. I can't wait to send you the picture of you and Bell with your medals!
